American Family Association, based in Tupelo, Miss., touts itself as “one of the largest and most effective pro-family organizations in the country” with a mission of motivating and equipping people to “restore American culture to its moral foundations.”
It is a major financial supporter of Vander Plaats’ Iowa For Freedom organization. The two organizations are leading a campaign to oust three Iowa Supreme Court justices because of the high court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage in Iowa.

The [liberal] Interfaith Alliance said it's not trying to tell Iowans how to vote, but said voters should know the group behind the effort is the American Family Association. The Alliance calls them an out-of-state extremist group with a hate-filled agenda.
The group met on the same steps where Bob Vander Plaats launched the effort months ago to remove three justices from their seats. Vander Plaats calls on supporters to vote against Chief Justice Marsha Ternus, David Baker and Michael Streit, all up for retention vote on Nov 2.
The AFA paid for an advertising campaign and according to public records, has covered nearly $70,000 in expenses for Vander Plaats' group, Iowa for Freedom.
David Lane, a spokesman for AFA Action Inc., said the group has every right to get involved in a campaign in Iowa.
About $320,000 has been spent on the campaign to oust the judges. The National Organization for Marriage has spent $235,000 on TV ads.

The Rev. Cary K. Gordon . . . an associate pastor at Cornerstone World Outreach in Sioux City, says he will defy federal law this month when he urges the congregation to vote to not retain the three justices, who participated in a unanimous ruling that allowed same-sex couples to wed. His mass mailing to 1,000 church leaders in September prompted one national religious liberty group to file a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service.
Advocates of the separation of church and state and some religious leaders say Gordon's plan is illegal, immoral and an attempt to falsely frame his dispute as a freedom-of-speech violation. The Rev. Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State in Washington, D.C., called Gordon's actions one of the most outrageous attempts to politicize a church that he has ever seen.
Others, such as Jeff Mullen, senior pastor of Point of Grace Church in Waukee, are urging Iowa pastors to communicate to their congregations the "biblical mandate for involvement in local and national elections."
An IRS spokesman declined to comment.

County Forbids Biblical Signage, Not Political
A South Carolina man says his constitutional rights have been violated after he was told by his local government to remove the Bible-themed signs he had posted on his property.

Still, there may be some urgency to the matter. Quinn's rival for governor, Republican State Senator Bill Brady, is staunchly opposed to any form of marriage rights for same-sex couples. Earlier this year, he introduced a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage and civil unions.
If Quinn were to lose in November, the December veto session might be the last shot for some time at advancing gay rights in the state.

God Saves 3,000 Babies: Prayer Vigil
The national 40 Days for Life prayer campaign reached a historic milestone today as it can now confirm 3,000 babies have been saved from abortions as a result of the prayer and abortion alternatives efforts of pro-life advocates at abortion centers across the nation.

“I was born in an abortion clinic which is pretty rare,” Jessen joked. “It was April 6, 1977. My biological parents were 17. My birth mom was in her seven-and-a-half month of pregnancy when she went to the abortion clinic.”
Jessen explained that her mother was 17 when she had a saline abortion in her third trimester. She added that this was legal in Southern California where she was born. Jessen miraculously survived being “burned alive” for approximately 18 hours in the saline solution while in her mother’s womb.
“I should be blind… dead,” explained Jessen. “My story is not my identity. My identity is Christ.”
Jessen explained that she survived because of God’s handiwork. She was born in the early morning hours when the abortion doctor was not around. Jessen said that when the nurse on duty discovered she was alive, she called for an ambulance and had Jessen transported to a local hospital.

Muslim Holiday Celebrated at Mass. Schools
Public schools in Cambridge, Massachusetts will be the first in the state to close every year in honor of Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice).

Cambridge School Superintendent Jeffrey Young said the district does not collect information about the religion of its students. But Young said that there is a significant Muslim population in the city, and that, at least anecdotally, the Muslim population in the schools appears to be growing.
A large Muslim population is one of the reasons why the school district in Dearborn, Mich., began closing schools for high Islamic holy days 10 years ago, said David Mustonen, communications coordinator for the school system.
In September, public schools in Burlington, Vt., also closed on Eid al-Fitr for the first time, said Dan Balon, director of the school district’s diversity and equity office.
Balon said there is an increasing Muslim population in the schools, and the district decided to close on the holiday rather than risk low attendance rates and force students to decide between school and staying home to celebrate the holiday.

Culver, a member of a Presbyterian church, signed a bill repealing the 2002 ban on creating embryonic stem cells through a method known as therapeutic cloning. He believes such research can lead to lifesaving medical breakthroughs and expand the bioscience industry in Iowa.

"Right-wingers'" Newborn Taken by NH Officials
An Epsom [New Hampshire] couple says state social workers seized their newborn baby hours after her birth because of the father's affiliation with an organization that opposes government tyranny.

In an affidavit supporting its actions, the DCYF . . . notes [the baby's father, Johnathon] Irish's affiliation with Oath Keepers, which it describes as "a militia," and his purchase of "several different types of weapons including a rifle, handgun and Taser."
Irish said he and the baby's mother, Stephanie Taylor, have been flooded with messages of support and requests for interviews since an interview he did with a self-described "independent journalist" was posted on the oathkeepers.org website. By 5 p.m. yesterday, the audio recording of that interview had gotten more than 17,000 hits on YouTube and sparked a protest outside Concord Hospital.
Irish and Taylor stood at the hospital entrance yesterday, talking with about a half-dozen supporters who were alerted to their case by media and social media reports. Irish wore a "Don't Tread on Me" hat; both were still wearing their hospital wristbands from the baby's birth.
There will be a hearing in the case on Thursday in Rochester Family Court. And Irish said he expects the courtroom will be "packed with a bunch of tea partiers."

Duke Scandal Showcases Sexualized Students
An unfortunate young woman, a product of the all-too-typical public school sexualization of children, and recent graduate of Duke University, chronicled her long list of sexual conquests of student athletes for the world to read.

The woman in question, Karen Owen, 22, who graduated this year from Duke, evaluated what she said were her sexual liaisons with 13 student-athletes during her years at the school, and she prepared a slide presentation, complete with pictures of her subjects and graphs ranking their performance.
She forwarded this mock thesis in “horizontal academics” to a few friends, who forwarded it to their friends. After percolating within the Duke community for nearly a week, with e-mails reaching alumni overseas and message boards buzzing, the report was published online by two related Web sites, Jezebel and Deadspin. From there, it exploded onto the blogosphere, where as of Thursday it was still being shared via Twitter with the frenzied speed of the Indianapolis 500.
The fake thesis [of claimed-actual events] made its splash just as concern was raised anew about the power of the Internet to invade privacy and, sometimes, destroy lives. Last month, at Rutgers University, a student surreptitiously recorded his male roommate’s encounter with another man; days later, the roommate killed himself, unleashing a national fury about cyberbullying.
Seven of the 13 athletes Ms. Owen wrote about were — or still are — on the lacrosse team. This incident has angered many of those who are already sensitive to their image, according to students and alumni who know them.

Senator's Law Against Meanness on Campus
For U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J, teaching kindness to students is not enough, rather he will introduce legislation against bullying in an effort to force students to be nice to each other.

Tea Party = Religious Right, says Liberal Media
A new poll has provided more ammunition to the mainstream media in its attempted smear of the Tea Party movement. These liberal elites assume that this characterization will cause middle America to shun the movement.

They are more likely than the population as a whole to view America as a Christian nation.
"The focus of the movement has changed to one that is much more in line with the full spectrum of conservative political issues," said [Michael] Lindsay, a political sociologist at Rice University in Houston.

Christian Denounces Univ. Homosexual Leader
An assistant attorney general [Andrew Shirvell] is using his personal blog to target the openly gay leader of the University of Michigan's student assembly, calling him a racist with a "radical homosexual agenda." The lawyer claims that when he's not at work, he has the right to say whatever he wants.

"The substance of the matter is, Chris Armstrong is a radical homosexual activist who got elected partly funded by the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund to promote a very deeply radical agenda at the University of Michigan. ... I'm a Christian citizen exercising my First Amendment rights."

"This is a taxpayer-supported, public museum and it’s family-friendly," Donna Rice, another member of the city council, told the Denver Post. "This is not something the community can be proud of."
"It is visual profanity," Linda King, an art gallery owner, told the Loveland Reporter-Herald. "It disgraces the God of all creation."

Abortion Clinic Shut Down During Prayer Vigil
A South Carolina SWAT team shut down an abortion clinic for two hours (halting scheduled abortions), and arrested the angry abortionist who pulled a gun on pro-lifers peacefully praying as part of the national 40 Days for Life campaign.

Police arrested Gary Boyle, 62, a Blountville, Tenn., physician, on charges of pointing a firearm.
Boyle drove into the parking lot of the clinic on Ashley River Road near Fuseler Road at around 8:30 a.m. When three protesters, including a 17-year-old boy, approached him, Boyle brandished a black handgun loaded with 15 rounds, according to a police report.

Scientists Judge Unborn, Kill Unwanted
In vitro fertilization specialists have learned how to enable unnatural human conception, and now will judge the usefulness and/or viability of each life, and systematically kill the unworthy, as they choose.
One scientist said, "If you watch the videos, this is how life begins."

Stanford researchers who studied and photographed human embryos for the first five days after fertilization say they have found a way to accurately predict which embryos will reach an important developmental milestone - and may be the most likely to lead to healthy pregnancies.
. . . The Stanford researchers were able to determine with 93 percent accuracy which newly fertilized eggs would become blastocysts, and which would stop growing and die before they reached that stage.
That could eliminate the need to implant two or more embryos at once to increase the chance of a single birth. And it could allow specialists to implant sooner after fertilization, which most doctors believe leads to fewer complications and better chances of a pregnancy.
But they noted that the Stanford study only predicted whether the embryos would become healthy blastocysts. Whether it can predict healthy pregnancies remains to be seen.
The embryos in the study were created at an in vitro fertilization program in Illinois that is now closed; the patients gave consent for their embryos to be used in research.

Homosexualists Intend to Control Both GOP & Dems
Just as "corporate America" donates to politicians of all stripes, homosexualist support is not confined to the Democrat party. Closeted GOP gays are favored by homosexualists, such as Illinois Republican Congressmen Mark Kirk and Aaron Schock, as they are easily controlled using threats of being "outed" with full documentation.

This time the president was speaking at a Sept. 22 fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City, and his reference to “inalienable rights” was not as close a paraphrasing of the Declaration as it had been the week before.
Speaking at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Annual Awards Gala on Sept. 15, Obama had left out the word “Creator” when otherwise virtually quoting from the Declaration of Independence.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident,” Obama said at that event, “that all men are created equal, endowed with certain inalienable rights: life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That’s what makes us unique.”
On Sept. 17, 2009 . . . Obama issued a “Constitution Day and Citizenship Day” proclamation that mentioned man's “certain unalienable rights” but not the Creator who endows man with them.
This proclamation was issued in both Spanish and English—with neither versions mentioning the Creator.
On Feb. 2, 2009, Obama issued a presidential proclamation for “National African American History Month” that mentioned “certain unalienable rights” Obama said "we all are endowed with" but did not mention the Creator . . .

The new Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan was a speaker at the society’s annual conventions in 2005, 2007, and 2008. And inside the pamphlet was a page saying, “The printing of this copy of the U.S. Constitution and of the nation’s two other founding texts, the Declaration of Independence and the Gettysburg Address, was made possible through the generosity of Laurence and Carolyn Tribe.”
. . . What’s missing is Lincoln’s description of the United States as a nation under God. What Lincoln actually said at Gettysburg was: “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom.” The American Constitution Society had omitted Lincoln’s reference to the United States as a nation under God from the address he gave at the dedication of the burial ground at Gettysburg.
. . . from 2000 to 2004, the atheist Michael Newdow was challenging in court the inclusion of the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance . . .
Newdow has cycled back into the news in recent months with a new case that was appealed to the Supreme Court in March 2010, but what he and his supporters have avoided mentioning is that the pledge’s words under God were not pulled from a sermon by Billy Graham or a papal encyclical. They were taken from Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. The pledge, as amended, simply quotes one of our nation’s founding texts.

They were taken from Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. The pledge, as amended, simply quotes one of our nation’s founding texts.

For the first time in more than 10 years, the federal government is paying for sex-education programs that aren’t based solely on abstinence. But they’re not just about handing out condoms, either.
Beginning this school year, a five-year, $375 million grant is being divided among 28 programs that have been proven to lower the pregnancy rate among participants, no matter their focus. Many programs distribute condoms, but about half also aim to improve teenagers’ academics, get them involved in extracurricular activities and even improve their parents’ job status.
The approach of talking to students about goals, which has become popular in the safe-sex community in the past 10 years, will replace the abstinence-centered talks financed by a Republican Congress in the late 1990s and later under President George W. Bush to the tune of $1.5 billion.
Almost all U.S. teens have had formal sex education, but only about two-thirds have been taught birth-control methods, according to a CDC report released Sept. 15.

Europeans React to Islamization
France is home to five million Muslims, the largest population in Europe, which may explain why it has an identity crisis. Like many Europeans nations, it is suffering the consequences of a decades-long open-borders policy that has allowed Muslims to establish enclaves across the country, particularly in Paris, where rioting Muslims sent the city up in flames in November, 2008.

The vote was nearly unamious, 246-1. The Senate's action follows that of the country's National Assembly, which acted in June and also passed the bill by a large margin. The bill awaits the singnature of French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
But whatever the reason women may no longer cover their faces in public, the country's radical Left, as expected, chalks the action up to Islamophobia.
. . . In 2009, the Swiss banned the Muslim minaret, described by Turkish President Recep Erdogan as the "Muslim Bayonet." That law sent European leftists into a tizzy.

Calls for a "burqa ban" are now heard across Europe, with local politics influencing how close it gets to becoming law.
Three days after Paris passed its ban last month, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's populist Northern League allies introduced a similar bill in Rome. Another Berlusconi ally submitted a draft ban law in the Senate last week.
[In Spain,] Barcelona outlawed burqas and niqabs in public buildings in June, after two smaller Catalan towns, Lerida and El Vendrell, banned them early this year.
A recent poll showed 61 percent of Germans favored a burqa ban but the debate there has focused more on a dispute caused by Thilo Sarrazin, who had to resign from the board of the central bank after publishing a book denigrating Muslim immigrants.
In Austria, the opposition Freedom Party has been gaining ground in state polls with its anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant line. Socialist Chancellor Werner Faymann says he "could imagine" a ban and his conservative coalition partners want to debate it.

However, the law's many proponents say it will preserve the nation's values, including its secular foundations and a notion of fraternity that is contrary to those who hide their faces.
The bill is aimed at ensuring gender equality, women's dignity and security, as well as upholding France's secular values — and its way of life.
Muslim leaders concur that Islam does not require a woman to hide her face. However, they have voiced concerns that a law forbidding them to do so would stigmatize the French Muslim population, which at an estimated 5 million is the largest in western Europe. Numerous Muslim women who wear the face-covering veil have said they are being increasingly harassed in the streets.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel demanded on Monday that Muslims living in Germany conform to "fundamental German values", saying there was no leeway on the issue.
"There is no leeway on this," she said, adding that Germans' perceptions of Islam were dominated by Sharia (Islamic law), the lack of equality between men and women and honour killings.
Germany had freedom of religion, and Islam was welcome, "but it must be a form of Islam that feels devoted to our fundamental values", Merkel said. If it were not, fears would develop among Germans, "and that is hardly something we want to happen".

Stem Cell Science Advances Without Embryos
Scientists have invented an efficient way to produce apparently safe alternatives to human embryonic stem cells without destroying embryos, a long-sought step toward bypassing the moral morass surrounding one of the most promising fields in medicine.

A team of researchers at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute in Boston published a series of experiments Thursday showing that synthetic biological signals can quickly reprogram ordinary skin cells into entities that appear virtually identical to embryonic stem cells. Moreover, the same strategy can then turn those cells into ones that could be used for transplants.
The cells produced by the Harvard team, known as induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPS cells, would avoid that ethical objection and could in some ways be superior to embryonic stem cells. For example, iPS cells could enable scientists to take an easily obtainable skin cell from any patient and use it to create perfectly matched cells, tissue and potentially even entire organs for transplants that would be immune to rejection.
While cautioning that the work needs to be repeated elsewhere and explored further, other researchers said the technique appears to represent a major development in the promising field of "regenerative medicine," which aims to create treatments tailored to individual patients.

U.S. District Judge William M. Conley in Madison, WI dismissed a lawsuit to remove mentions of The Almighty in the Capitol Visitor Center filed by the atheist Freedom From Religion Foundation due to a lack of legal standing to sue.
