Satanists to Lead 'Prayer' in Phoenix Government

Some members of the Phoenix City Council would like to restrict Satanists and others from opening prayers at council meetings, but that may NOT be possible.
"Consistent with the U.S. Supreme Court’s direction, the city cannot dictate religious viewpoints or the content of a prayer. In addition, government may not exclude a denomination or a religion from praying under these circumstances."
-- Brad Holm, City Attorney of Phoenix, Arizona

"I strongly disagree with this group's message. However, the First Amendment protects free speech. As offensive as that message may be, the Constitution demands equal treatment under the law."

The Arizona Republic reports that the Satanic Temple submitted a request in December to give the invocation for a City Council meeting. Temple members Michelle Shortt and Stu de Haan are expected to do so on Feb. 17.

The city’s invocation has been delivered by Christians, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs and people of other faiths.

De Haan says the group doesn’t intend to do anything offensive. He says they don’t believe in a literal Satan but view the biblical Satan as a metaphor for rebellion against tyranny.

While some Phoenix leaders have objected, the city has said it will let the Satanists pray. City Attorney Brad Holm defended the decision in a statement released Thursday.

Councilmen Sal DiCiccio, Bill Gates, Jim Waring and Michael Nowakowski are pushing a proposal to change how the city schedules the invocation. The plan would let the mayor and council members take turns inviting different religious groups to give the prayer.

Waring said the proposal could prevent the Satanic Temple from turning the council's Feb. 17 meeting into "a circus." The group could still give an invocation at a future meeting, but a council member would have to personally invite them.

Other city leaders have defended the satanists' right to speak under the First Amendment. . . .

[Satanist Stu de Haan] said people have been concerned about the satanic prayer, but a lot of them don’t understand the religion.

“We’ve gotten a lot of ridiculous questions, like are we going to sacrifice babies and what we’re calling ‘blood libel,’” he said. “There’s nothing ever like that in Satanism.”

“We should have our voice and we believe that reason should trump superstition in general,” he said.

De Haan said the group is not looking to shake any feathers or make changes to the city’s process. His group just wants to be included in the broader religious spectrum.

“We are Satanists and we are your friend,” he said.

Oregon Woman Fired for Being Pro-life Leader

After working four years at Sparkling Palaces, a Portland small business, Harmony Daws was fired from her position as operations manager when she told her employer, and close friend, that she had become a pro-life activist and her employer had read Daws' online writings.
“What my employer did was illegal. Firing someone based on their religious or political beliefs is a civil rights violation. I’m a libertarian and I support my former employer’s right to hire and fire as she chooses. However, she could have asked for a resignation over our difference of beliefs.”

. . . her boss came to her again and told her to never mention her pro-life work. Her employer was cold and distant for the following week and a half until Friday when she fired Harmony for being a “discriminator” and for Harmony’s beliefs that she saw online, apparently including her blog and the ORTL website.

Employees who worked under Harmony varied in beliefs and lifestyles, including a Satanist, a Wiccan, a lesbian, and atheists too. Upon hearing of her firing, several of them told her they had never felt discriminated against in any way. They said she “loved everyone.” It was because of Harmony’s work running the daily operations of the company that her boss went from struggling to make payroll for three employees to a team of 14 employees with projected 2016 sales of over $500,000.

Had the situation been reversed in today’s political climate and Harmony had fired someone for their belief that abortion should be legal, it is virtually guaranteed they would have sued her for discrimination. . . .

Breast Cancer Solution Includes Breast-feeding

Once again, God's design of women has been proven . . .
"The evidence outlined in the series, contributed by some of the leading experts in the field, leaves no doubt that the decision not to breast-feed has major long-term negative effects on the health, nutrition and development of children and on women's health."
-- Cesar Victora, The Lancet series author, of Federal University of Pelotas in Brazil

"We want to encourage breastfeeding but I've also seen patients in tears who can't do it. This article makes it seem like developed countries, rich women, they should all be breastfeeding. But for working women, it's harder for them to breastfeed."

-- From "Breastfeeding could Save 800,000 Infant Deaths and 20,000 Breast Cancer Deaths Worldwide: Study" by Sandra Hicks, The California Post 1/29/16

As per the study article published online Jan. 28 in The Lancet, the decrease in children's deaths is equivalent to 13% of all deaths in children younger than 2 years of age. The report finds that the current breast-feeding practices cost the world's economy hundreds of billions of dollars a year. Cesar Victora, of Federal University of Pelotas in Brazil, said there is a widespread misconception that the benefits of breast-feeding only relate to poor countries. Nothing could be further from the truth. Victora added that the new study highlights the fact that breast-feeding saves lives and money in all countries, rich and poor alike.

. . . researchers said that breastfeeding increases children's intelligence and may protect them against obesity and diabetes later in life. For mothers, long-term breast-feeding reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Researchers estimated that poorer thinking skills among children who aren't breast-fed cost the global economy about $302 billion in 2012. The loss in high-income countries alone was $231 billion. Increasing breast-feeding rates for infants younger than 6 months to 90% in the United States, China and Brazil, and to 45% in the United Kingdom, would lower treatment costs of common childhood illnesses.

From "Worldwide Boost in Breast-Feeding Could Save 800,000 Lives: Study" posted at HealthDay News 1/28/16

Only one in five children in high-income countries is breast-fed for 12 months, the researchers said. And, only one in three children in low- and middle-income countries is exclusively breast-fed for the first 6 months.

Increasing breast-feeding rates for infants younger than 6 months to 90 percent in the United States, China and Brazil, and to 45 percent in the United Kingdom, would lower treatment costs of common childhood illnesses -- such as pneumonia, diarrhea and asthma. This could save health care systems about $2.5 billion in the United States, $29.5 million in the United Kingdom, $224 million in China and $6 million in Brazil, according to the study.

Despite the many benefits of breast-feeding, rates are low, especially in high-income countries, the study showed.

[Speaking about high-income countries, such as the United States, Dr. Jennifer Wu] said a six-week maternity leave from work makes it difficult to continue nursing for a full year.

"At six weeks, you barely have gotten breastfeeding on track. When you go back to work, breast milk goes down because you're away from the baby and can't breastfeed every two or three hours," said Wu.

She said some professions are particularly demanding. "If you're a teacher, it's really hard to find 30 minutes." There's not just time pumping, but setting up and cleaning breast pump equipment.

"There aren't many jobs where you can walk away from your job and do every few hours," Wu said. "In New York and elsewhere here in the U.S., we work very long workdays, maybe 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at night and with a commute that may extend the day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m."

She said waking up every few hours at night to breastfeed is difficult and women become sleep-deprived. "It's virtually impossible to breastfeed all night long and then work all the next day."

The leading medical journal The Lancet just released a new Series on Breastfeeding with remarkable new evidence on the health and economic benefits of breastfeeding. . . .

Now more than ever we know what needs to be done to support and enable mothers to breastfeed. With such compelling evidence, all of us, including governments, donors, development agencies, the research community, the private sector and civil society need to step up. Breastfeeding can be dramatically improved in a short period of time.

Low and middle income countries such as Burkina Faso, India, Malawi, Peru and Zambia, and high income countries such as Norway, Sweden and Finland, have shown that it is possible to maintain high breastfeeding rates or increase rates in a short period of time provided political commitment, strong policies and programs are in place.

The two-part [Lancet] series is the most detailed analysis of levels, trends and benefits of breastfeeding around the world.

In a podcast interview for the series, Prof. Victora says while we are only "beginning to scratch the surface," a lot of evidence is emerging about the biology of breastfeeding and the components and properties of breast milk.

He quotes a colleague who likens breast milk to "very exquisite personalized medicine" because it reflects the biological interaction between the mother and her child, "something that formula will never be able to imitate," he notes.

He says we are also beginning to understand that breast milk has epigenetic effects - that is, it influences the expression of genes that control cell activity and development. And, another recent discovery is that breast milk contains stem cells.

Obama's Enforcer Follows Man into Ladies' Room

The federal government has strong-armed Deluxe Financial Services Corp. of Shoreview, Minnesota into an agreement to pay $115,000 and change its company policy to allow men into women's facilities.  As part of the legal action, the Obama administration Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will be following up to ensure the company succumbs fully to the Gay Agenda.

The male employee, after beginning to show up for work in female clothing, complained in part, that Deluxe supervisors and coworkers referred to him using male pronouns.

According to EEOC’s complaint, Britney Austin was assigned the male sex at birth and presented as male when hired by the company. Ms. Austin performed her duties satisfactorily in the company’s Phoenix offices throughout a lengthy tenure. However, after she informed her supervisor that she was transgender and began to present as a woman at work, Deluxe refused to let her use the women’s restroom.

Such alleged conduct violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits sex discrimination, including that based on transgender status and gender stereotyping. This includes subjecting an employee to different terms and conditions or a hostile work environment because of sex.

A suit filed by EEOC, EEOC v. Deluxe Financial Services, Inc., sought both monetary and injunctive relief. Britney Austin intervened in the lawsuit and asserted additional claims.

Minnesota U.S. District Court Judge Ann Montgomery issued a consent decree on Jan. 20 ordering Deluxe Financial Services Inc. to pay Britney Austin the amount and change its equal employment opportunity policies to prevent unlawful sex discrimination and harassment.

Montgomery also told the company to issue a letter of reference for future employers, change its national health benefits plan to delete any partial exclusion for health care based on transgender status and provide an annual report to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), which filed the lawsuit on behalf of the complainant.

The company issued a letter of apology, which states, "We want to ensure you that we have made changes to our internal policies, including how we treat transgender employees' requests to change biographical information or use a restroom commensurate with their gender identity."

"The company has changed its policies to ensure that transgender employees may use a restroom commensurate with their gender identity, that the company will promptly correct that employee's sex designation and name in our internal records and systems, and that we will take hostile comments based on sex- stereotyping seriously, investigate them, and take prompt corrective and remedial action," the letter read.

In addition to requiring that Deluxe pay monetary damages to Ms. Austin, a three-year consent decree provides that Deluxe will issue a letter of apology to Ms. Austin and a letter of reference for future employers. The consent decree also provides that, as of January 1, 2016, Deluxe's national health benefits plan will not include any partial or categorical exclusion for otherwise medically necessary care based on transgender status.

"This settlement underscores EEOC's commitment to securing the rights of transgender individuals under Title VII in the federal courts," said EEOC General Counsel David Lopez. "This is our second such resolution and we hope that employers will take notice and begin to take proactive steps to prevent and eliminate discrimination against their transgender workers."

This is the third lawsuit filed by EEOC alleging discrimination on the basis of transgender status. In April, 2015, a Florida eye clinic paid $150,000 to settle an EEOC lawsuit seeking relief for an employee who had been transitioning from male to female. EEOC also filed suit seeking relief for an employee of a Detroit area funeral home fired for transitioning from male to female, which is still pending.

Acting [EEOC] District Director Elizabeth Cadle added, "EEOC considers protecting transgender, lesbian, gay, and bisexual employees to be a strategic enforcement priority. We will continue to assure that transgender employees receive the full benefit of federal anti-discrimination laws in all industries."

Austin wasn’t allowed to use the women’s restroom and co-workers used hurtful epithets and intentionally used the wrong gender pronouns to refer to her, the EEOC said in a June complaint. The company denies having created or subjected Austin to a hostile workplace, and said it’s “fully committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful workplace,” according to the order.

“In the interest of resolving this matter, to avoid further cost of litigation, and as a result of having engaged in comprehensive settlement negotiations, the parties have agreed that this action should be resolved by entry of this decree,” Judge Montgomery wrote in Wednesday’s order.

The EEOC is represented in-house by Laurie A Vasichek, Iris Halpern and Michael H. Imdiecke. Austin is represented by Jillian T. Weiss and Ezra Young.

Deluxe is represented by Angela Beranek Brandt and David M. Wilk of Larson King LLP.

From "Transgender Roadmap: 10 Steps The EEOC Thinks Employers Should Take" by Robin E. Shea, JD Supra Business Advisor 1/23/2016

1) Include gender identity in your non-discrimination and no-harassment policies. If you’re a federal contractor, you should have done this a long time ago. If you’re not, then you should seriously consider adding it now.

2) Make sure your policies provide that discrimination against or harassment of individuals because of their transgender (and related) status will not be tolerated, whether the behavior comes from “employees, customers, agents, contractors, sub-contractors, clients,” or anyone else.

3) Make sure that employees understand that deliberately referring to a transgendered person by his or her “biological” gender, or by his or her original name, is considered discrimination and harassment by the EEOC.

. . .

5) A transgendered employee should be allowed to use the restroom “commensurate with their gender identity” without any limitations. Again, the EEOC’s position is that the employer may not ask for the medical records of the transgendered employee, or otherwise probe into his or her medical details before doing so. (This means an employer cannot make the employee wait to change restrooms until after he or she has had gender-reassignment surgery.)

. . .

7) The employer should conduct annual training for rank-and-file employees that includes discrimination based on gender identity, sex stereotyping, and gender dysphoria, and should penalize any employee who fails to complete the training on an annual basis.

Women Who Birth More Children Live Longer: Study

A study by a team of Canadian researchers shows that women who deliver a greater number of children (e.g.: those who shun abortion) are biologically destined to live longer, as measured by the length of their "telomeres" — the portion of the chromosomes affecting how cells age.
“These results suggest that, at least in our study population, having more surviving children acts as a protective factor . . .”

Probably we all, especially women, always scare of growing old. Now a new research has suggested a new way for ladies to live longer and slow down ageing- Have more kids!

The astonishing findings contradict a conventional wisdom that giving birth to a number of children accelerates the pace of a woman’s biological aging.

Telomeres are the protective caps at the end of each strand of DNA, like the plastic tips at the end of shoelaces, that protect our chromosomes from deterioration.

The length of telomeres is associated with cellular ageing, hence longer telomeres are associated with longevity, explain the researchers.

To read the entire article above, CLICK HERE.

From "Why Having More Kids Slows Down the Aging Process" by Rachel Grumman Bender, Yahoo Parenting 1/11/16

Researchers at Simon Fraser University in Canada studied indigenous women in Guatemala who have high fertility rates in general and found that those with more children had longer telomeres, which are a sign of slower cellular aging, compared with those who had fewer offspring. “Telomeres are little pieces of DNA at the end of chromosomes that protect the rest of the chromosome,” Pablo A. Nepomnaschy, PhD, one of the study’s authors and an associate professor at Simon Fraser University, tells Yahoo Parenting. “The older the cell gets, the shorter the telomere.” On the flip side, long telomeres are associated with longevity.

Although more research is needed to understand why, Nepomnaschy and his colleagues hypothesize that estrogen plays a role. The hormone, which is high during pregnancy, is a known protective factor against oxidative stress, which ages cells, according to Nepomnaschy. “Perhaps the more times you go through pregnancy, the more time you — and your cells — spend protected,” he says.

From "Having more children could slow aging" by Honor Whiteman, Medical News Today 1/8/16

In the journal PLOS One, researchers reveal that women who had more children had longer telomeres than women who had fewer children.

Each time a cell replicates, telomeres become shorter. They eventually become so short that they stop protecting chromosomes, leaving them vulnerable to damage, which in turn causes our cells to age and stop functioning effectively.

Previously, animal studies have supported the "life history theory," suggesting that higher reproductive behavior is associated with accelerated biological aging.

However, this latest study, led by Prof. Pablo Nepomnaschy and Cindy Barha - both of Simon Fraser University in Canada - contradicts this theory.

Each additional child linked to an increase in telomere length

From "Number of Children and Telomere Length in Women: A Prospective, Longitudinal Evaluation" by Cindy K. Barha, Courtney W. Hanna, Katrina G. Salvante, Samantha L. Wilson, Wendy P. Robinson, Rachel M. Altman, Pablo A. Nepomnaschy, posted at PLOS ONE 1/5/16

Here we investigate the relationship between the number of surviving children born to a woman and telomere length (TL, a marker of cellular aging) over 13 years in a group of 75 Kaqchikel Mayan women. Contrary to LHT’s [life history theory] prediction, women who had fewer children exhibited shorter TLs than those who had more children (p = 0.045) after controlling for TL at the onset of the 13-year study period. . . .

At a “proximate” level, mechanisms involved may include the actions of the gonadal steroid estradiol, which increases dramatically during pregnancy. Estradiol is known to protect TL from the effects of oxidative stress as well as increase telomerase activity, an enzyme that maintains TL. . . .

Here we prospectively evaluated the relationship between number of offspring and change in TL across a 13-year period in a cohort of indigenous Kaqchikel Mayan women. In this population, number of offspring is high and varies remarkably among individuals, providing a good model to investigate a potential association between reproductive effort and the pace of cellular aging in humans. Improving our understanding of the factors that influence inter-individual differences in TL changes can provide useful information to help improve our management of wellbeing, morbidity and mortality during the aging process.

According to President Obama's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis have increased for the first time since 2006, with the per-capita incidence in California leading the way, especially in Los Angeles County.

Some public health experts have blamed the heavy use of online dating apps, arguing that they lead to more casual sex among people 25 and younger, who are the most likely to be infected and also the least inclined to seek testing . . .

Rates of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis in the U.S. had been fluctuating for several years, but all surged in 2014. A particularly staggering statistic, the 1.4 million chlamydia cases reported that year, marked the highest number of annual cases of any condition ever reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to The [Los Angeles] Times.

From "What's causing the rise in STDs in L.A. County and how can technology help?" by Soumya Karlamangla, Los Angeles Times 1/25/16

Sexually active women under 25 are supposed to have annual screenings for [chlamydia and gonorrhea] infections, because they're considered high risk and bear the brunt of the consequences of most STDs. Each year, at least 24,000 women become infertile because of complications of STDs, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

. . . Last year, Planned Parenthood launched an app in California through which men and women can order chlamydia and gonorrhea tests. A paper found that in 2009 there were already 27 such services, and a Google search now yields hundreds of results.

One such start-up, based in Hollywood, began as a way to try to make sex safer, especially for people who might be using apps to find new partners.

In 2013, [Lora Ivanova and Ursula Hessenflow] launched myLAB Box, which sells test kits online for chlamydia and gonorrhea, HIV, trichomoniasis and hepatitis C. The kits — which cost $79 to $189 — require a urine sample, a vaginal swab or blood from a finger prick to send to the lab.

But AIDS Healthcare Foundation President Michael Weinstein worries that as these tests become more popular, it will be difficult to make sure people are getting treated once they're diagnosed.

Already, there are problems following up with patients who order tests online. In the program run by L.A. County's Health Department, only about half of the 9,000 kits mailed out were returned for testing, which is in line with other programs' results.

From "STDs on rise locally, nationally" by Lacey Peterson, The Union Democrat (Sonora, CA) 1/8/16

In 2014, 1.4 million cases of chlamydia were reported, a rate of 456.1 cases per 100,000 people, which was up 2.8 percent from 2013. Rates of primary and secondary syphilis (the most infectious stages of syphilis) and gonorrhea have both increased since 2013, by 15.1 percent and 5.1 percent, respectively.

In 2014, nationally there were 350,062 reported cases of gonorrhea (a rate of 110.7 per 100,000) and 19,999 reported cases of primary and secondary syphilis (6.3 per 100,000).

According to the CDC, syphilis has been called “the great imitator” because it has so many possible symptoms, many of which look like symptoms of other diseases.

The painless syphilis sore that a person may develop early in the infection can be confused for an ingrown hair, zipper cut, or other seemingly harmless bump, the CDC said.

People can also be infected with syphilis and have mild symptoms or none at all.

The majority of syphilis cases were reported in men, especially men who have sex with other men. Black men had the highest rate of infection, almost double that of white males, county health officials said.

"Young women between 15 and 24 years of age have the highest rate of chlamydia infections," said Dr. M. Winston Tilghman, senior physician and STD controller for the county. God Called Me to Kill Black Babies: Abortionist

Willie Parker, an experienced African-American board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, said that a sermon by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. convinced him that the parable of the good Samaritan was God calling him to murder unborn black babies because too many of their mothers are poor.
“Abortion is health care, and I make no apologies that it’s how I make my living.  It is moral and right to provide women with the services they need to live the lives they want to live. . . . I saw a patient in Mississippi . . . [who] knew that she could not care for another child, financially or emotionally. . . . It is the deepest level of love that you can have for another person, that you can have compassion for their suffering and you can act to relieve it.”

The statistics themselves are not in dispute. While blacks comprise 13 percent of the population, black women account for more than 30 percent of the estimated 1 million abortions performed annually in the U.S.

In Congress, Rep. Sean Duffy, a white Republican from rural Wisconsin, lambasted black members of Congress for failing to decry these high abortion numbers. The next day, Rep. Gwen Moore, a black Democrat from Milwaukee, fired back — accusing Duffy and his GOP colleagues of caring about black children only before they are born.

“Black lives matter ... and Indian and Asian, Hispanic and white,” Duffy continued. “All those lives matter. We should fight for all life, including the life of the unborn.”

In Missouri, a white GOP state legislator, Rep. Mike Moon, introduced a “personhood” bill that would effectively outlaw all abortions, and titled it the All Lives Matter Act. Abortion-rights activists were indignant, saying Moon was provocatively co-opting the Black Lives Matter slogan that has been used to convey concern about the deaths of unarmed blacks in encounters with police.

From "Why I Provide Abortions" by Willie J. Parker, New York Times 11/18/15

My decision to provide abortions represented a change of heart on my part. I had been working for 12 years as an obstetrician and gynecologist, and had never performed abortions because I felt they were morally wrong. But I grew increasingly uncomfortable turning away women who needed help.

Ultimately, reading a sermon by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. challenged me to a deeper spiritual understanding. I was moved by his discussion of the quality of the good Samaritan and of what made the Samaritan “good.” The Samaritan reversed the question of concern, to care more about the well-being of the person needing help than about what might happen to him for stopping to give help. I realized that if I were to show compassion, I would have to act on behalf of those women. My concern about women who lacked access to abortion became more important to me than worrying about what might happen to me for providing the services.

I stopped doing obstetrics in 2009 to provide abortion full time for women who needed help. Invariably I field questions regarding my decision, with the most often asked being: Why? The short answer is: Because I can. And: Because if I don’t, who will?

From "Planned Parenthood Abortionist: 'I Follow My God-Given Calling' to Kill Babies in Abortions" by Micaiah Bilger, LifeNews.com 1/15/16

Young abortion doctor-in-training Carolyn Payne also recently wrote a column, claiming that her Christian faith motivated her to pursue a career as an abortionist. And in November, pro-lifers in Chicago filmed an unnamed abortionist as she knelt and prayed on the sidewalk, thanking God that she can abort unborn babies.

The latest faith-based justification comes from Des Moines, Iowa abortion doctor Jill Meadows, who said it is her “God-given calling” to abort unborn babies at Planned Parenthood.

Meadows, the medical director for Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, used the phrase in a letter to the editor of the Des Moines Register last week, defending her abortion business in the wake of a series of undercover videos showing top Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted babies’ body parts.

America's First All-Gay K-12 School: Atlanta

“Pride School Atlanta” is being launched from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta by a middle-aged transgender entrepreneur (currently) named Christian Zsilavetz to provide a $13,000-annual-tuition, non-judgmental education that is “free of homophobia and transphobia” for any student considered “different.”  However, the unanswered question is, Who is labeling the children, as young as five, as gay?

Their first student could be this 6-year-old girl (who WAS a 52-year-old man).

And, their first teacher could be any one of these sexual-predator homosexual teachers.

For background on how America's PUBLIC schools are "going gay," read President Obama Forces Wildest Transgender Agenda on Children Using Full Force of Federal Government and now Hillary Clinton Promises Even MORE 'Transgender/Gay Rights'

-- From "Atlanta to open first-ever pride school for LGBT students" by Kerry Cardoza, Chicago Sun-Times 1/7/16

“Kids have full permission to be themselves — as well as educators. Where there’s no wondering, ‘Is this teacher going to be a person for me to be myself with?’” Zsilavetz told the AP.

According to the school’s website, the teaching model offers a flexible curriculum with “no mandatory homework or testing.” The open-learning model is designed to encourage students to pursue subjects they are interested in.

The school would be modeled after the Harvey Milk school in New York City and other education centers across the country designed for, but not limited to, LGBT youth.

According to the school’s website “All students will have the freedom, responsibility, and support to create their own individualized curriculum, education, and school climate through trust and democratic decision-making processes. Sometimes students thrive on structure in their day, and at other times freedom. In our model, borrowed from longstanding schools around the world, curriculum is flexible and there is no mandatory homework or testing. Students are free to discover what, when and how they prefer to learn, trusted that their natural curiosity and desire to pursue personal goals will lead them to a rigorous and rich education. Each day will be full of opportunities for each member of the Pride School Family to become the best person they can be, ready to face the world with confidence, knowledge, and the ability to help others do the same.”

From "School for LGBT youth called first of its kind in Georgia" by Rose French, The Associated Press 1/4/16

It is part of a small but growing group of schools popping up nationally geared toward educating LGBT youth, who feel disenfranchised from public education. Pride School would be the first of its kind in the Southeast and, according to gay rights advocates, a significant development for the LGBT movement.

Zsilavetz, 45, who's taught math and other subjects since 1992, says he never felt truly open or supported by administrators while teaching in public schools and wanted that to change. He wanted LGBT students and teachers to be able to openly discuss who they are in a school setting without fear.

From "Atlanta To Feature New School Aimed At Gay Kids" by Blake Neff, Reporter, Daily Caller 1/5/16

“Pride School Atlanta admits students of any race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, affectional preference, sexual orientation, marital or relationship status, gender identity or gender expression to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school,” the school-to-be says on its website.

Besides being intended for gay and transgender students, the school also hopes to create a welcoming environment for transgender teachers who may encounter hostility in a public school environment.

The school isn’t the first one to put a focus on gay students. New York City actually has a public high school, Harvey Milk High School, that is designed for LGBT students. Pride School, though, will be K-12, and it is the first school of its kind built in the conservative American South.

Pro-lifers March on D.C. Amid Government Shutdown

Federal bureaucrats closed Washington D.C. on Friday in the face of the deadly winter weather front closing in on the city, but tens of thousands of citizens braved the weather in D.C. for the 43rd annual March for Life to denounce the deadly politics of Roe v. Wade that is responsible for killing scores of millions of unborn children.  The national mainstream media was virtually absent the event and only one 2016 presidential candidate showed up — a woman!
“The establishment media and political class don’t want us to talk about what the abortion industry is doing. You saw what happened when I talked about the horrific truth of the planned parenthood videos during a Republican debate. Unlike the media, you’ve watched the videos. You’ve seen an aborted baby, it’s legs kicking, it’s heart beating while the technician describes how they would keep these babies alive to harvest their organs.”
-- Carly Fiorina, Republican presidential candidate, at the March for Life

-- From "As DC shuts down for a blizzard, a small, faithful crowd still joins the March for Life" by Michelle Boorstein, Washington Post 1/22/16

With much of the D.C. region in the midst of complete shut-down frenzy – grocery and sled stores were packed, though downtown D.C. was quiet — for what is predicted to be a historic snow storm, city officials had suggested to the March for Life organizers that they prioritize participants’ safety – what sounded like a hint to cancel. But actual snow held off for the first hour or so of the event, giving protesters a chance to rally at the foot of the Washington Monument, before the temperatures plunged and the snow began to fall as the march up to the Supreme Court began.

The overall scene was dramatically smaller than normal, with usually-crowded sidewalks and lawns all along the Mall instead dotted with protesters, including nuns and priests in their garb and packs of Catholic school students holding signs and wearing hats that matched their group. Evangelical leaders made a concerted effort this year to bring their activists to what is traditionally a strongly Catholic event and several national evangelical leaders spoke from the stage to the rally.

Among those in the crowd was Richard Stith, 71, an Indiana law professor who called himself a part of a segment he dubbed “lefties for life” — Catholics whom he said support issues like the death penalty and LGBT rights as part of “a consistent ethic for life.” He said he had been a member of a group called Socialists for Life as well and always felt welcome at the march.

From "Snowstorm keeps turnout low, but spirits stay high at March for Life" by Bradford Richardson, The Hill 1/22/16

Tens of thousands of the movement’s faithful — made up largely of high school and college students outfitted in matching jackets, scarves or hats — took to the streets to protest on the 43rd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.

Event organizers also took notice [of the youthful demographic], passing out signs proclaiming the arrival of the “Pro-Life Generation.”

“A lot of us are young people — the pro-life generation — who care about life from womb to tomb,” said Victor Esposito, 20, who was with a group of students from Catholic University of America wearing red embroidered scarves.

“There’s come this recognition that as more and more science and technology comes out, we begin to recognize that life really does start at conception,” he added.

The theme of the March, “Pro-life and pro-women go hand in hand,” sought to emphasize the gender diversity of the anti-abortion-rights movement, challenging the narrative that opposition to abortion constitutes a “war on women.”

From "Fiorina becomes pro-life favorite through struggling presidential bid" by Paige Winfield Cunningham, Washington Examiner 1/22/16

In her trademark pointed and articulate style, Fiorina launched an attack on abortion rights and the groups that promote them . . . "You can scream and throw condoms at me all day long — you cannot scare me," Fiorina said, to cheers from the crowd of activists gathered on the National Mall. "I know the value of life."

While nearly all of Fiorina's Republican opponents hold the same positions on abortion, favoring more restrictions on it and backing recent efforts by Congress to block public funding for Planned Parenthood, Fiorina has eagerly embraced the topic in a way the others haven't.

"Ideological feminism now shuts down conversation on college campuses and in the media," Fiorina said at the March for Life. "If you are a conservative who doesn't believe the litany of the Left, you are waging a war on women."

There's broad feeling among the anti-abortion movement that it needs more focus on how abortion affects women, partially to counter the "war on women" messaging that Democrats, Planned Parenthood and other supporters of abortion rights have pushed. Fiorina agrees with that goal.

Oral Sex Causes Head & Neck Cancer: HPV Study

A new highly-regarded study shows a 22-fold increased risk for incident oropharyngeal cancer, a head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), following evidence of human papillomavirus (HPV) in the mouth -- likely transmitted via oral sex.  Decades ago, such cancers were less common and assumed to be caused by smoking and drinking.

Dr. Ilir Agalliu and colleagues at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York looked at the records of more than 96,000 people taking part in a big medical study.

They all took a mouthwash test for oral HPV infection as part of the study. Four years later, 132 of them had developed some form of head and neck cancer. The researchers compared each patient with cancer to three similar people who didn't get it.

People infected with a strain called HPV-16 were between two and 22 times as likely to be in the cancer group, the team reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association's JAMA Oncology.

Experts believe 70 percent of all head and neck cancers are caused by HPV, likely spread by oral sex. According to experts, by 2020 head and neck cancer will beat out cervical cancer as the most common HPV-related cancer.

From "HPV16 in the Mouth Linked to Increased Risk for HNSCC" by Fran Lowry, Medscape 1/22/16

Dr Agalliu explained what prompted this study. "We had previously detected an unusually high prevalence of HPV types found on the skin and in skin cancers in the oral cavity, in addition to HPV16 and other high-risk types," he told Medscape Medical News.

"Moreover, there have been no prospective studies examining associations between oral HPVs and the subsequent risk of head and neck cancers," he pointed out.

The detection of HPV DNA in oral rinse specimens was associated with a 7.1-fold increase in the odds of incident HNSCC (95% confidence interval [CI], 2.2 - 22.6), after adjustment for smoking history and alcohol consumption.

However, oral DNA detection of other high-risk oncogenic HPV types, excluding HPV16, was not associated with the risk for HNSCC.

Most Terrorists are White Christians, Colleges Say

More educators are teaching American students that the greater risk to the public is white Christian terrorists rather than Muslim terrorists.
“Ninety percent are from these white Caucasian men. . . . Usually they are people who are religiously motivated and politically conservative. . . . From "Prof DEBUNKS study claiming right-wing extremists in U.S. more deadly than Islamic terrorists" by Michael McGrady, CU Colorado Springs, posted at The College Fix 1/18/16

A widely touted study claiming right-wing extremism is more deadly than Islamic terrorism in the United States has been debunked by a history professor who shows that, in actuality, there have been 62 Americans killed by Islamic terrorists in the U.S. for every one American killed by right-wing extremists.

Professor Andrew Holt of Florida State College at Jacksonville recently published his analysis that discredits the widespread sentiment that right-wing attackers are the deadliest domestic terrorists in the U.S.

Holt’s analysis points out numerous flaws in the highly cited study released in 2015 by New America Foundation, which claimed 48 deaths in the U.S. were due to “far right wing attacks” while only counting 45 deaths due to “violent jihadist attacks.”

The study’s findings were not only touted by many major news outlets across the nation as proof that fears over radical Islamic terror in the U.S. are overblown, but the findings are also used today in some college classrooms as an example of Islamophobia.

But, Holt points out the foundation’s findings are based on flawed data sets.

From "Right Wing Extremism vs. Islamic Extremism in the United States: A Look at the Numbers" by Andrew Holt, Ph.D. 1/11/16

The now oft repeated claim that right wing extremism is more dangerous to Americans than Islamic extremism is based on total deaths and excludes casualties. Moreover, such accounts limit themselves to attacks in the United States (not worldwide), and purposefully exclude the nearly 3,000 deaths (as well as the over 6,000 survivors treated at hospitals) that took place on September 11, 2001. They don’t count the 9/11 deaths as then the numbers would be extraordinarily lopsided (in terms of total U.S. deaths due to Islamic extremism vs right wing extremism) and so such claims are careful to be based only on deaths in the United States AFTER the events of 9/11.

Indeed, if you include the death totals from 9/11 in such a calculation, then there have been around 62 people killed in the United States by Islamic extremists for every one American killed by a right wing terrorist (a 62 to 1 ratio if you divide the slightly over 3000 deaths due to Islamic extremism by the 48 deaths attributed to right wing extremism).

. . . recognize the disproportionately high number of attacks by Islamic extremists in the United States, who, even after excluding the victims of 9/11, are still responsible for around 50% of the total number of deaths due to extremism, even though Muslims only account for around 1% of the total U.S. population.

LA Lesbian Teacher Arrested: Sex with Minor Girl

Kimberly Naquin, a 26-year-old teacher at Destrehan (Louisiana) High School and a daughter of St. Charles Parish School Board President Dennis Naquin, has been charged with carnal knowledge of a juvenile (statutory rape) for a year-long lesbian sexual affair with a student.  The school is notorious for three teacher-student sex arrests over the past two years, including one pair of female teachers engaging in a tryst with a student.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office investigation began after a family member of the student provided information about the alleged crime. Detectives interviewed the student, who said that she did have a sexual relationship with a DHS teacher named Kimberly Naquin, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

According to the student, the relationship began in September 2014 and lasted until August 2015.

The student advised most of the inappropriate contact occurred at the teacher’s prior residence, which was located in Kenner; however an undetermined amount of incidents occurred within St. Charles Parish at a Destrehan High School classroom and a Destrehan residence, according to investigators.

Naquin is being held without bond at the Nelson Coleman Corrections facility in Killona. Her Facebook page says her mother, Karen Naquin, is a teacher in the St. Charles Parish public school system.

Her arrest comes three months after Destrehan High teachers Shelly Dufresne and Rachel Respess were accused of having sex with a 16-year-old male student. Dufresne pleaded guilty to a felony obscenity charge in St. Charles for having sex with the student at a home in Montz, where she lives. She received a three-year deferred prison sentence, three years of probation and a $1,000 fine.

For allegedly having sex with the same student at Respess' apartment in Kenner, Dufresene has pleaded not guilty in Jefferson Parish to two counts of carnal knowledge. Respess, originally accused of engagaing in group sex there with Dufresene and the student, was charged by prosecutors with failing to report a felony. She, too,has pleaded not guilty.

From "What's with Destrehan High? 3 teacher-student sex cases in 2 years" by Danielle Dreilinger, The Times-Picayune (NOLA.com) 1/15/16

Louisiana already had a bad reputation for inappropriate relationships between school staff and students: In 2014, it ranked third in the United States, counting both convictions and arrests. That included Shelley Dufresne and Rachel Respess, who taught English at Destrehan High until their arrests that fall on charges of having group sex with a 16-year-old boy.

Louisiana law generally forbids sex between an adult and a person younger than 17. It strictly prohibits sexual contact between a teacher and a student through the age of 20, and it's very clear how seriously school systems should treat abuse.

But the laws and policies do not necessarily include consequences for the higher-ups. Destrehan High Principal Stephen Weber, for example, kept his job after the 2014 abuse came to light. And the state Education Department did not contact, sanction, reprimand or intervene at the school, spokesman Barry Landry said. He would not release Weber's annual evaluation results, saying they were not public information; the 2014-15 results aren't complete yet anyway.

Sued for Playing Christian Music: Michigan Dentist

Tina M. Marshall, a dentist in Lake Orion, Michigan, is being sued in Oakland County by former employees Nancy Kordus, Kimberly Hinson, Tammy Kulis and Sara Bambard for violating Michigan’s Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act.  The plaintiffs claim they were fired and discriminated against for objecting to Marshall's choice of Christian music played in the dental office and for their rejection of Marshall's prayers.

However, the story is much deeper than this lawsuit as investigative media sources allude to Marshall's association with co-defendant Craig Stasio, a local chiropractor and alleged "cult leader" who brainwashes young adults.

David Kotzian, who is representing the former Marshall employees, would not comment further on what damages his clients are seeking from the suit but referred to the complaint, which specifies “they are seeking damages for loss of past and future income and employment benefits, outrage, humiliation, embarrassment, mental anxiety, emotional distress, and loss of professional reputation.”

Lawyers for Marshall filed a response to the lawsuit in November, denying claims she forced her religious practices on her staff.

Her lawyer, Keith Jablonski, told The Washington Post this week his client is “being attacked in this lawsuit for her Christian beliefs, based solely on her desire to play religious music and radio stations in the dental office of the business that she owns.”

“We believe that when the facts, and not baseless allegations, are presented to a jury, we will establish that this group of former disgruntled employees are simply looking to profit off of their own prejudices towards Dr. Marshall and her Christian faith,” he said. “Dr. Marshall flatly denies engaging in any discriminatory employment practices.”

Marshall purchased the dental practice in 2008 but her religious practices were only incorporated at the office as she became part of a local ministry run by Craig Stasio in 2013.

During a restructuring of the dental office [orchestrated by Stasio], almost all of Marshall's previous employees were fired or resigned, apart from one dental hygienist who still works for the practice.

Of the plaintiffs, Hansin [sic] had worked for the practice, previously ran by Dr. Raphael Flajole, as a dental hygienist for about 32 years. Kordus began working for the practice as a dental assistant in about 1993, and Kulis at the front desk in 1994. The three became employees of Marshall when she purchased the practice in 2008. Bambard began working for Marshall in 2011 at the front desk.

According to the lawsuit Marshall began playing the Christian music after she and her daughter Brittney joined Stasio's ministry sometime in 2013.

The lawsuit also alleges that Marshall would pray over patients receiving dental treatment, hung religious pictures in her office, placed holy water at her front desk, and maintained a diary of religious activity that occurred at her practice. The front cover of the diary stated "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want."

Media coverage kicked in after chiropractor Dr. Craig Stasio of Centerline offered his business expertise in revamping the dentist office, including terminating employees' contracts and organizing internal departments.

Fox 2 News has also aired several stories on Stasio in 2014 and one on November 23, 2015 claiming he is a cult leader, that he is ripping families apart, and most recently, that he is trying to groom teens, or recruit them, to a Christian ministry.

[Also, Jim & Tina Marshall] recently purchased a two-floor laser tag facility in Clinton Township.

The Marshalls changed the name from Laser Edge to Laser Tag of Clinton Township, and hired Stasio to manage the business.

[Mrs.] Marshall laughed when asked if it was a recruitment center for teenagers to enter Stasio's religious ministry.

From "Mich. Parents Claim Massage Therapy Office Is a Front for Christian Cult" by Morgan Lee, Christian Post Reporter 3/14/14

In a WJBK-TV report released on Wednesday, correspondent Rob Wolchek investigated claims from more than 12 family members who allege that Dr. Craig Stasio, who owns and operates the Clinton Township-based Agape Massage Therapy & Chiropractic, persuaded their relatives to drop out of college and move into a commune filled with office employees.

According to the organization's Facebook page, they "are a Christian faith-based company offering both massage therapy and chiropractic services. Glory be to our Lord Jesus Christ!"

Wolchek sent two undercover reporters into Stasio's office to learn more about its employees.

Parents told WJBK-TV that their daughters have referred to Stasio as "the prophet." Sources also said that literature associated with the movement suggests that he believes in a three-year tribulation, "where the sign of the beast is a computer chip" and "most people that are churched will hold onto the law and perish in the fire."

From "Dentist office loses employees after 'Prophet' steps in" by Meg Peters, Co-Editor, The Lake Orion Review, posted at Oxford Leader 8/5/15

Stasio refrained from speaking with Fox 2 News investigator Rob Wolchek in 2014, however has since denied being the leader of any cult, and other allegations including that he had influenced his followers to distance themselves from their families and previous ways of life.

The Oakland County Sheriff Department Orion Substation has looked into the previous news stories, and no incidents have been reported about the dentist office on Baldwin.

Stasio explained the "following" is a "fellowship" and even a "fraternity" consisting of 20 to 30 people gathering on almost a daily basis.

They are in their mid-twenties to sixties, who are Christians simply "getting together, eating, praying, worshiping, reading the Bible, and fellowshipping" in non-structured group gatherings.

A Facebook post to The Lake Orion Chat Room dated July 17 read that a few changes had come to a local dentist office, including "Craig Stasio the Cult Chiropractor doctor" who "came in last week with a whole new crew from his ministry to work in the office."

When asked if Jim Marshall felt like he was in a cult he said, "absolutely not. I don't know why people come up with that. When Jesus was here on earth they actually said he was in a cult, it's in the Bible. We follow Jesus Christ, he's the one in Heaven, not Craig Stasio."

Jim Marshall said they had hired Stasio as their consultant because he has over 20 years of business experience.

From "Failed business to business consulting, is Stasio misunderstood?" by Meg Peters, Co-Editor, The Lake Orion Review, posted at Oxford Leader 8/12/15

Several instances in Dr. Craig Stasio's past have left previous employees of Dr. Tina Marshall puzzled as to why she requested he restructure her business practice.

[Stasio recounted,] "I said to Tina, 'the only way this is going to work, where I'll have any capacity to help you, is they have to be under the impression that when I come in I have jurisdiction to do what I see I have jurisdiction to do."

According to the 2008 Disciplinary action report of the Michigan Bureau of Health Professionals, Craig Allen Stasio, D.C., was fined and put on probation May 13, 2008 for a violation of General Duty/Negligence.

One report from 2004 determined Stasio had engaged in sexual activity with a massage therapist, which Stasio also confirmed.

Stasio was taken to jail in Sterling Heights, and after being released hired a retired FBI investigator for the case, resulting in the prosecuting attorney dropping all charges. Stasio said he could prove he was not even in the same city as the massage therapist when she made the call, and had multiple witnesses and testimony.

Stasio turned to Christianity ten years ago after a "radical life changing supernatural encounter with God."

Both Jim and Tina Marshall said his past is of no importance, and trust him along with his recommendations.
