The gay-positive lifestyle is being promoted aggressively in K-12 schools, often under the cover of anti-bullying efforts, under the leadership of Kevin Jennings, Assistant Deputy Secretary, Office of Safe & Drug Free Schools. Before his federal appointment, Jennings founded and ran GLSEN, (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network). Under Jennings' direction, GLSEN was involved in activities that affirmed homosexuality to children with explicit materials. Jennings also wrote the foreword to a book titled Queering Elementary Education.
GLSEN, which in the 2008-2009 year enjoyed a $157,500 contribution from the NEA, the largest teachers union in the country, pitches its materials and training services to schools. It targets not only high school students, but middle school students. For example, the video and teachers guide for Out of the Past, about a 17-year-old who begins a gay-straight alliance group in her public school, is targeted for grades 7 through 12.
. . . the organizations that put out a brochure titled "Just the Facts about Sexual Development of Youth" . . . include not only the two largest teachers' unions, but also the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association.
. . . Furthermore, "Just the Facts" is promoted aggressively on the (GLSEN) website.
In such a way, the peer reviewers, the accrediting organizations, and professors assert their power; they actively exclude not only opposing religious views, but also studies and professional opinions of those who disagree with them. It's a problem that plagues our entire educational system.

Assistant Deputy Secretary of Education Kevin Jennings was keynote speaker at the Aug. 11 to 12 bullying summit. In an interview with Southern California Public Radio, Jennings noted that an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development study showed the USA to be in the middle of 40 industrial countries surveyed in terms of bullying severity.
While the bullying summit has given bullying a high profile, Phillip C. Rodkin, an associate professor of educational psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and summit speaker, acknowledged that not much is known about effective anti-bullying practices. Historically, adults "didn't ask," he said. "They didn't want to know."
. . . The government will never know the true scope of America's bullying problem if it relies on self-reporting by schools.
As a nation suddenly concerned with bullying, we have a lot to learn.

Academia Redefines 'Family'
An activist university sociologist has published a study, glorified by the liberal media, that purports to demonstrate that American opinion is shifting to define 'family' as man & wife with children, or homosexual couples, or virtually anything, including adult(s) with pet animals.
"People are taking a more expansive view of what a family is. But for any family that doesn't fit the 1960s Ozzie and Harriet mold, slow and steady doesn't feel fast enough."

New research being released Wednesday shows steadily increasing recognition of unmarried couples — gay and straight — as families. But there's a solid core resisting this trend who are more willing to include pets in their definition than same-sex partners.
The new research on the topic is contained in a book-length study, "Counted Out: Same-Sex Relations and Americans' Definition of Family" and in a separate 2010 survey overseen by the book's lead author, Indiana University sociologist Brian Powell.
Between 2003 and 2010, three surveys conducted by Powell's team showed a significant shift toward counting same-sex couples with children as family — from 54 percent of respondents in 2003 to 68 percent in 2010. In all, more than 2,300 people were surveyed.
In line with several recent national opinion polls, Powell's 2010 survey showed a near-even split on same-sex marriage — with 52 percent supporting it and 48 percent opposed.

But Mr. Miller also credited the fact that an abortion-related parental-consent measure was on the ballot, drawing social conservatives to the polls.
Recent court rulings calling into question the stem-cell policy and the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays serving in the military could make both sleeper issues in close races this fall.
"Yes, I believe there has been a disturbing silence by some leaders in the GOP concerning social issues," said Steve Scheffler, an RNC member from Iowa.
Social conservatives have shown the muscle to put the GOP over the top in past elections - or to sink the party's hopes by staying home. During the past 30 years, social conservatives have shown increasing political activism, largely siding with the one major party that unequivocally opposes abortion and same-sex marriage in its platform.

Christian Jailed in Texas for Witnessing
San Antonio Police arrested Todd Leibovitz, a recent Bible college graduate, for sharing his faith on a public sidewalk. Leibovitz was jailed for 16 hours and cited for peddling without a license.

Under the Cry Out America theme of “Every State, Every County, and Every Heart,” Christians in 842 counties – or nearly a third of the counties in the nation – gathered at noon local time to pray for America’s armed forces, its youth, families, clergy, and churches.

Missouri: Citizens, pastors, city and business leaders, law enforcement and youth . . . join together in prayer to “cry out” for revival in America.
Ohio: For Charleton Burgett, Saturday's Cry Out America event at the downtown Lancaster bandstand was about praying for his country.
Texas: They prayed for their country, the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and for reform and unity of the church.
Missouri: It is a cross-denominational, nonpartisan prayer initiative, coordinated by several pastors and members of many Springfield churches,
Florida: Prayers rained down on Lake City Saturday afternoon as community members gathered for a local prayer movement. The rally was part of a larger national movement.
Kansas: For the third year, the Liberal Ministerial Alliance is sponsoring the nationwide ministry “Cry Out America,” a program to remember those who lost their lives on Sept. 11 and to increase awareness of the nation's spiritual needs
Ohio: "We need to get God back in the country. The more praying at the same time the better."

Judge Obliges Obama: Gays in Military`
As the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) exacerbates the abhorrent maneuver of tacking a repeal of 1993 law banning homosexuals in the military onto the annual defense authorization bill, a review of last week's court ruling exemplifies an activist judge functioning as a mouthpiece of President Obama.

Reid spokesman Jim Manley confirmed to POLITICO that the majority leader has decided to move on the legislation – which sets the annual military budget and policies — as soon as the Senate wraps its work on a small business bill. This year's authorization bill, however, also has become a vehicle to begin to roll back the controversial “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy implemented during the Clinton administration.
The Department of Defense is already moving toward a repeal of the controversial measure, with Secretary Robert Gates publicly supporting eventual changes, but is awaiting the completion of study on how altering the policy would affect troop morale. The pending authorization bill would give the Department of Defense the authority to act on those findings.
"It's obviously going to be a controversial part of this debate," Manley said.

Judge Virginia Phillips ruled on Sept. 9 that the DADT policy, codified in 10 U.S.C. ss. 654, which states, “The prohibition against homosexual conduct is a long-standing element of military law that continues to be necessary in the unique circumstances of military service,” is unconstitutional, violating both the First and Fifth amendments.
In making her ruling, Judge Phillips cited President Obama’s June 29, 2009 address to a gathering of gay activists and government officials, singling out the president’s contradiction of the long-time position of U.S. military officials that homosexual conduct could damage military effectiveness.
Judge Phillips noted . . . “President Obama, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, stated on June 29, 2009: ‘Don't Ask, Don't Tell doesn't contribute to our national security…preventing patriotic Americans from serving their country weakens our national security…[R]eversing this policy [is] the right thing to do [and] is essential for our national security.’”
Obama also stated unequivocally that changing the policy requires an act of Congress, not a mere judicial ruling.

The White House brokered a deal with congressional leaders earlier this year to repeal the law. The House passed the measure, which would take effect after the Pentagon completes its review. The Senate hasn't taken up the issue, which is part of the larger defense-spending bill.
"This is another example of activist judges usurping the role of the people and their elected officials. This should be a decision for Congress and the president, not appointed un-elected judges, after Congress and the president receive the Pentagon report on this issue," Ms. Buchanan [spokeswoman for Sen. McCain], said.

African Penis Washing: Obama's Stimulus
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), spent $823,200 of economic stimulus funds in 2009 on a study by a UCLA research team to teach uncircumcised African men how to wash their genitals after having sex.

The genitalia-washing program is part of a larger $12-million UCLA study examining how to better encourage Africans to undergo voluntary HIV testing and counseling – however, only the penis-washing study received money from the 2009 economic stimulus law. The washing portion of the study is set to end in 2011.
“NIH Announces the Availability of Recovery Act Funds for Competitive Revision Applications,” the grant abstract states. “We propose to evaluate the feasibility of a post-coital genital hygiene study among men unwilling to be circumcised in Orange Farm, South Africa.”
Because AIDS researchers have been unsuccessful in convincing most adult African men to undergo circumcision, the UCLA study proposes to determine whether researchers can develop an after-sex genitalia-washing regimen that they can then convince uncircumcised African men to follow.

Child Porn Buyers Given a Pass by Feds
A new report documents how the federal government, busy suing Arizona for upholding national law regarding illegal aliens, has ignored all but a handful of documented cases of the purchase of child pornography by workers at the Department of Defense.

As part of the probe, ICE investigators gained access to the names and credit card information of more than 5,000 Americans who had subscribed to websites offering images of child pornography. Muslim Prayer Opens Hartford City Council

In Court: Planned Parenthood Taxpayer Funds Fraud
The nation's largest abortion provider will defend itself before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for fraudulent overbilling alleged by its own top management.

Victor Gonzalez alleges that he saw millions in fraudulent overbilling to state and federal governments when he worked as Chief Financial Officer for Planned Parenthood of Los Angeles.
Gonzalez alleges that after he reported the problems internally he was fired. While Gonzalez was still working for PPLA the state of California launched audits of various Planned Parenthood affiliates, and uncovered more than $5.2 million in overbilling at a single affiliate based in San Diego. Gonzalez claims that Planned Parenthood lobbyists intervened to stop other audits that were still pending statewide.
In his court filings, Gonzalez has outlined several transactions he alleges show illegal activity. For example, in one year Gonzalez says PPLA paid $225,695.65 for Ortho Tri-Cyclen birth control pills, yet billed the government $918,084 - for a profit of $692,388.35.
Planned Parenthood tried to have the Gonzalez whistleblower case dismissed on a technicality, but the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals recently denied that motion. Walter Weber, who represents Gonzalez, says it could take years to actually get the case to trial. Weber asserts that the issues outlined by Gonzalez are so wide-spread that they are akin to "ACORN-like corruption" - and that federal agencies, like the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, should consider de-funding Planned Parenthood of any government money.

A letter from the Inspector General to New Jersey officials recommended that New Jersey repay $2,219,746 to the federal government.
A second audit by the U. S. Inspector General for the HHS Department found Planned Parenthood family planning centers improperly received the enhanced 90% rate for outpatient services which did not qualify as family planning services.
A third audit found New Jersey received federal Medicaid reimbursement for 111 of the 161 claims for inpatient services which were improperly billed as family planning at the enhanced 90 percent rate. The Office of Inspector General recommended New Jersey reimburse $162,548 to the federal government and determine the amount of federal Medicaid funds improperly reimbursed at the 90% rate for inpatient hospital services following the audit period and refund that amount as well.

The Memphis Islamic Center has successfully expanded into Cordova (Tennessee), undertaking new building construction, and sharing the adjacent church with Christians for Islamic worship during Ramadan.

. . . Until Memphis Islamic Center is complete, members pray at nearby Heartsong Church . . . as members of the Christian congregation take the opportunity to sit in on Ramadan prayers and meet people at the nightly gatherings, much of that mystery and fear has dissipated.
The Memphis project hasn't been entirely free of criticism. Bloggers and religious publications have speculated that the Memphis group is receiving funding from Saudi Arabia, which the local Islamic board says is completely false.
When it is finished, the new facility will be a center for the whole community, and a place for interfaith cooperation . . .

Neither the doctor — George Shepard Jr., 88, who oversaw the five Maryland clinics of American Women's Services — nor his attorney appeared at the hearing in Baltimore of the Maryland Board of Physicians that was to hear evidence against him in the case of the woman, who suffered a perforated uterus and other injuries during an Aug. 13 procedure in Elkton.
The medical licenses of Shepard and another doctor, Nicola I. Riley, 45, were suspended last week. A third doctor in the case, Steven C. Brigham, 54, who state officials say owns the chain of clinics, was not licensed to practice medicine in Maryland and was ordered to stop doing so.
The three doctors' actions came to light after a surgeon at a Baltimore hospital was forced to perform an emergency operation on the young woman to repair damage from the procedure she underwent at the Elkton clinic.
In an unrelated case, board members signed a suspension order for a Severna Park abortion doctor whose patient, a 21-year-old woman, died of an overdose of anesthesia during surgery. The doctor, Romeo A. Ferrer, who obtained his Maryland physician's license in 1971, "failed to meet appropriate standards for the delivery of quality medical care" during the operation on Feb. 3, 2006, the suspension order says.
C. Irving Pinder Jr., the executive director of the physicians board, said . . . "Once you start peeling the onion . . . you tend to find a lot more problems."

The New Jersey Medical Board acted Wednesday to suspend the medical license of the notorious abortionist Stephen Chase Brigham after an investigation into a botched abortion discovered that he was starting late-term abortions in New Jersey then leading the women across state lines to Maryland where he and his associates would complete the abortions, some as late as 35 weeks gestation.
New Jersey is the last state in which Brigham maintained an active medical license. He has been banned from the practice of medicine in Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, and California. Neither the doctor — George Shepard Jr., 88, who oversaw the five Maryland clinics of American Women's Services — nor his attorney appeared at the hearing in Baltimore of the Maryland Board of Physicians that was to hear evidence against him in the case of the woman, who suffered a perforated uterus and other injuries during an Aug. 13 procedure in Elkton.
The medical licenses of Shepard and another doctor, Nicola I. Riley, 45, were suspended last week. A third doctor in the case, Steven C. Brigham, 54, who state officials say owns the chain of clinics, was not licensed to practice medicine in Maryland and was ordered to stop doing so.
The three doctors' actions came to light after a surgeon at a Baltimore hospital was forced to perform an emergency operation on the young woman to repair damage from the procedure she underwent at the Elkton clinic.
In an unrelated case, board members signed a suspension order for a Severna Park abortion doctor whose patient, a 21-year-old woman, died of an overdose of anesthesia during surgery. The doctor, Romeo A. Ferrer, who obtained his Maryland physician's license in 1971, "failed to meet appropriate standards for the delivery of quality medical care" during the operation on Feb. 3, 2006, the suspension order says.
C. Irving Pinder Jr., the executive director of the physicians board, said . . . "Once you start peeling the onion . . . you tend to find a lot more problems."

The New Jersey Medical Board acted Wednesday to suspend the medical license of the notorious abortionist Stephen Chase Brigham after an investigation into a botched abortion discovered that he was starting late-term abortions in New Jersey then leading the women across state lines to Maryland where he and his associates would complete the abortions, some as late as 35 weeks gestation.

A New Hampshire town has voted to reject a Christian sign -- a decision at odds with ordinance provisions and treatment of other business signage.

Casual Sex Not Detrimental: 'Experts'
Studies claim that sex outside of marriage has no ill effects on teenagers' grades in school, nor on future "long-term relationships."
How many intelligent adults over age 50 would actually believe this? This clearly doesn't pass the common-sense test.

University of Iowa researchers analyzed relationship surveys and found that average relationship quality was higher for people who took it slowly than for those who became sexually involved in "hook-ups," casual dating, or "friends with benefits" relationships.
However, having sex early on wasn't the reason for this disparity, according to UI sociologist Anthony Paik. When he factored out people who weren't interested in getting serious, he found that those who became sexually involved as friends or acquaintances and were open to a serious relationship were just as happy as those who dated but delayed having sex.
"The study suggests that rewarding relationships are possible for those who delay sex. But it's also possible for true love to emerge if things start off with a more Sex and the City approach, when people spot each other across the room, become sexually involved and then build a relationship," [said UI sociologist Anthony Paik].
The study is published in the August issue of the journal Social Science Research.

The same isn't true for teens who "hook up." Researchers found that those who have casual flings get lower grades and have more school-related problems compared with those who abstain.
The findings, presented . . . at a meeting of the American Sociological Association in Atlanta, challenge to some extent assumptions that sexually active teens tend to do poorer in school.
It's not so much whether a teen has sex that determines academic success, the researchers say, but the type of sexual relationship they're engaged in. Teens in serious relationships may find social and emotional support in their sex partners, reducing their anxiety and stress levels in life and in school.
Last year, nearly half of high school students reported having sexual intercourse, and 14 percent have had four or more partners, according to a federal survey released this summer.

First Lady Calls Christians to Prayer & Fasting
Marie Olive Kabila, wife of President Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is leading the people in prayer to God for spiritual change of the country.

Chinese Gov't Buys Into Christian Abstinence

But government officials quickly stepped in, insisting that the kids pledge to no one but the Communist Party.
Officials in Yunnan, however, said Focus on the Family's message of abstinence resonated with the province's conservative leadership.
"Nowadays, teenagers have too many different channels for learning about sex," said Ma Lianhong, Yunnan's former secretary general of media, who introduced the Christian group to provincial leaders. "Even if you don't talk about it, they will just learn about it quietly by themselves, which is even more dangerous. . . . Abstinence is good for keeping the families steady and bringing down the divorce rate. And it complies with China's traditional morals."
