Fictional 'Safe Sex' - Gov't Losing War on STDs

Whether it's HIV/AIDS, gonorrhea, chlamydia or any number of sexually transmitted diseases, government health efforts to create a safe haven for sexual hedonism are losing ground. Even "the government experts" are recommending abstinence as the reliable cure.

. . . the ever-mutating gonorrhea bacterium is becoming resistant to the dwindling number of medicines used to fight it, and public health authorities are raising alarms about the emergence of an untreatable “superbug” that will reverse decades of progress in lowering infection and transmission rates around the globe.

On Thursday, officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are scheduled to release new treatment guidelines to slow the growth of antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea in the United States.

If this gets out of control, it “could take us back more than 60 years, to a time when treatments for gonorrhea were not reliably effective and when there were no alternative therapies,” said Dr. Hook, a professor of medicine and epidemiology at the University of Alabama and director of the STD Control Program for the Jefferson County Department of Health

From "Emphasize STD prevention as antibiotic resistance grows" by Robyn Carlisle, MSN, CNM, WHNP - posted at The Clinical Advisor 7/9/12

Some of my patients take a very relaxed approach to safe sex and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

. . . the CDC estimates that only about half of all STD cases are detected and treated each year.

. . . both chlamydia and gonorrhea have serious complications if they spread into the uterus and/or fallopian tubes, causing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). If left untreated, PID can cause permanent damage to the reproductive organs, leading to infertility, chronic pelvic pain, ectopic pregnancy and infertility. Both infections also increase the chance of acquiring HIV in individuals exposed to the virus.

. . . Prevention may soon be our only defense against gonorrhea.

Could gonorrhea be the super disease that kills us all? Death by sex?

As of now, no cures have been found for this bug . . .

Anyone catch a Biblical hint in the idea of humanity being done-in at the last by its promiscuity?
