A Polk County Sheriff's Office [PCSO] news release says the incident happened Wednesday afternoon in 47-year-old Vadi Velez-Gonzalez's intensive reading class at Mulberry High School. The school district placed him on leave Friday, and he was arrested Monday.
The news release says a student went to the teacher's desk to ask a question and saw a face-up iPhone with a website showing adult male pornography. Three other students saw it and reported it to school officials.
Velez-Gonzalez is charged with four counts of showing obscene material to a minor.

According to investigators, the first student approached Velez-Gonzalez’s desk and saw the porn on the teacher’s cell phone. The student returned to her seat, then went back up to the desk because “she could not believe what she saw.” At that point, investigators say she used her phone to record Valez-Gonzalez’s phone. Three other students reportedly saw the same images on the teacher’s phone and reported it to authorities.
Investigators say a search of Velez-Gonzalez’s phone revealed he visited the mobile website adam4adam.com nearly 400 times during a two-week period. On at least two occasions, they claim Velez-Gonzalez visited the website during school hours.
The Polk County School District has placed Velez-Gonzalez on administrative leave. He is currently being held in the Polk County Jail on an $8,000 bond.

Vadi Velez-Gonzalez, 47, of 9404 Windermere Lake Drive in Riverview, was charged with four counts of showing obscene material to a minor and four counts of use of a two-way communication device to commit a felony, according to a Polk County Sheriff's Office arrest report. Valez-Gonzalez teaches an intensive reading class to 22 students, who are all under the age of 18, and was placed on administrative leave Friday.
On Wednesday about 12:45 p.m., a student between the ages of 14 and 16 walked over to Velez-Gonzalez's desk to ask a question about an assignment when she saw that his iPhone was face up with websites showing adult male pornography, according to the report.
"It's not like he was even hiding it," said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. "He knew exactly what he was doing."
Three other students between the ages of 14 and 16 also saw pornographic images of men on Velez-Gonzalez's iPhone when they walked up to his desk, so they reported it to school authorities, who notified the Sheriff's Office the next day.

EXCERPT FROM THE AFFIDAVIT:
The suspect knowingly showed obscene material to a minor by leaving his Apple iPhone face up with images and/or videos of pornography being displayed. The suspect is in a classroom setting with 22 students/minors, all of whom are under age 18 years old. [Detectives] determined four minors, between 14 and 16 years old, saw the aforementioned obscene material on the suspect’s Apple iPhone in violation of FSS 847.0133.
