Mrs. Obama Thanks Hollywood for Gay Indoctrination

In an address Friday at the National Geographic’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., First Lady Michelle Obama agreed with TV and screenwriters that their industry can use, and has used, the power of media to inculcate sexual deviancy in the culture, and so she thanked them for advancing the Gay Agenda
“So the fact is, in many ways, you all are in a unique position to help us address some of the most challenging issues that we face as a nation . . . like gay rights.”

The first lady’s blessing comes three weeks before the Academy Awards and in the midst of a larger debate about the film [‘American Sniper’].

In her call-out to Hollywood’s “content creators,” [Mrs.] Obama said she would like Hollywood to have the same effect on views of military veterans that it has had on perceptions of gay and lesbian Americans.

“It wasn’t all that long ago that this was a third-rail kind of issue, not just in politics, but in entertainment as well,” she said of gay rights. “Today, ‘The Imitation Game’ is up for best picture at the Oscars, and Cam and Mitchell — two of my favorites — are raising their daughter on ‘Modern Family,’ one of the top-rated shows on TV. And at the same time, we’ve seen gay rights advance in real life as well.”

It is not unexpected that Obama chooses to engage moviemakers in connection with her initiative. The first lady has had a close relationship with Hollywood that was capped in 2013 when she made a surprise appearance at the Oscars to present the award for best picture.

The California Department of Public Health has issued an alert to the pornography industry that on-set homosexual anal sex has infected a man with HIV during filming in Nevada -- a state that does not require condoms for porn actors.

One actor from the second shoot has since tested positive for HIV. According to the health department, lab results indicate the first actor who tested positive "probably transmitted" HIV to the second.

A health department official declined to release any information regarding when the transmission had taken place or which company it involved, citing privacy restrictions, but said the apparent transmission occurred in Nevada.

Several porn companies have moved shoots out of the county over the last two years in response to the ordinance [requiring condoms]. The number of porn filmmakers applying for permits in LA County has declined sharply, from 485 in 2012 to 40 in 2013.

The newly infected individual initially tested HIV-negative in California after what was on–set exposure out of state (shooting films without condoms or protective barriers); however, two weeks later, the individual in question then tested HIV-positive. . . .

Since 2004 there have been numerous other cases of performers testing HIV-positive while working in California’s porn industry, including cases in 2010 (Derrick Burts) and 2013 (Cameron Bay and Rod Daily). However, despite the largest-ever OSHA fines levied against the adult film industry in the Cameron Bay case, porn producers continue the spin that these individuals did not contract HIV on set in the industry, but in their personal lives.

From "Condom free speech argument fails to stand up in court" by Rory Carroll in Los Angeles for The UK Guardian 12/16/14

The [Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals] ruled on Monday that an LA county ordinance mandating condoms in films did not violate the adult entertainment industry’s first amendment rights.

Vivid Entertainment, Califa Productions and other producers had argued that the 2012 ordinance [Measure B], which was passed by voters, restricted their ability to create alluring scenarios free of real-word concerns like pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

Diana Duke, head of the Free Speech Coalition, an industry group, said in a statement that the condom mandate was “terrible” policy [and that] performers disliked condoms because aggravated friction amid bright lights and prolonged periods of penetration caused discomfort and impeded erections.

The number of permits issued for adult films in LA county had fallen 95% since measure B passed, said Duke. However, as a film can be shot in a few days in a private house without a permit, it is unclear how much production has fled.

Abortion Movie Flops at Box Office; Just Not Funny

Promoted as a comedy and a "positive" film about a promiscuous woman who has an abortion, "Obvious Child" has demonstrated that audiences aren't clamoring to see a movie where a child is obviously murdered.

For background, read about the waves of pro-life sentiment flooding the nation.

-- From "'Obvious Child' lacks comic constancy" by Rick Bentley, The Fresno Bee 7/3/14

Give writer/director Gillian Robespierre credit for even attempting with "Obvious Child" to make a romantic comedy built around a woman's decision to have an abortion after a close encounter of the getting pregnant kind. Just being called an "abortion comedy" is enough to insight mobs to grab torches and pitchforks.

The way Robespierre handles such an incredibly delicate topic is not to make the jokes about having an abortion but have the comedy come from the nervousness and uncertainties Donna has about her life and this massive decision. The comedy feels natural because it's well-established that Donna deals with everything in her life with a joke.

Comedy is hard. Sitting through an unfunny comedy is even harder.

The bulk of critics, however, have bought the latter claim hook, line and sinker . . .

From "Abortion Comedy 'Obvious Child' Flops at the Box Office" by Cassy Fiano, LiveActionNews/LifeNews.com 7/3/14

The way abortion advocates tell it, women have been clamoring for a movie featuring abortion – and not just abortion, but a “positive” abortion story. Forever bemoaning the lack of abortions in romantic books and movies, and even shoehorning abortion into a wedding announcement, pro-abortion activists were screeching with joy over the pro-abortion film Obvious Child.

No one expected Obvious Child to be a box office smash as an independent comedy. But these [dismal box office] numbers still tell a tale: women, in fact, are not rushing to theaters to see a movie that revolves around abortion. Crazily enough, it seems that people don’t find abortion all that romantic or funny. Like After Tiller, also the darling of the pro-abortion crowd, most of America is ignoring this movie, because most normal people don’t feel the need to romanticize abortion. Only pro-abortion extremists feel the need for abortion to not only be legal, but be celebrated and glorified.

Obvious Child was supposed to be the dawn of a glorious new day of abortion films, with studios realizing that it was just a genius idea to feature abortion as a positive in movies. But considering that most Americans aren’t turning out in droves to see a “comedy” about a girl who gets knocked up and has an abortion, laughing and making crude jokes all the way through it, the future of pro-abortion movies looks bleak.

Oscars Revoke Christian Song - Joni Eareckson Tada

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences chose the low-budget Christian movie Alone Yet Not Alone for its first-ever revocation of an Oscar nomination on ethical grounds.  The nomination of the film's title song, performed by quadriplegic Christian singer and leading evangelist Joni Eareckson Tada, has been criticized for associations with "anti-gay" personalities.
"If the academy is just hoping they can keep quiet and this story will go away, they need to find a different strategy."

The academy discovered that composer Bruce Broughton emailed members of the group’s music branch during the voting period to make them aware of his submission.

Broughton is a member of the music branch’s executive committee and a former governor for the academy.

Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said Wednesday that using a position within the organization to promote one’s Oscar submission creates the appearance of an unfair advantage.

From "Voices rising amid 'Alone Yet Not Alone's' removal from Oscar running" by Steven Zeitchik and Glenn Whipp, Los Angeles Times 1/31/14

. . . the action has prompted criticism that the academy has cracked down on a small movie that can't compete with big-budget Oscar campaigns mounted by studios. "Alone Yet Not Alone," from a film of the same name about 18th century Colonists in the Ohio Valley, is a low-budget, faith-based movie that features an iconic quadriplegic pastor.

Veteran awards consultant Cynthia Swartz says she doesn't understand how Broughton's email was different from any number of other things that the academy allows during campaigning for Oscar nominations. Producers and studio executives, she notes, routinely send email invitations to friends for screenings of their movies, events that also include refreshments.

In an interview, pastor Eareckson Tada said she was unsure what to make of the academy's decision.

"If it was for reasons connected with a faith-based message, it shouldn't surprise us that Hollywood would shun Jesus," she said. "Jesus has been shunned by much weedier characters."

From "Academy Disqualifies Joni Eareckson Tada's Oscar-Nominated Song from Christian Movie" by Kate Tracy, Christianity Today 1/30/14

Since nominations were announced, the song—performed by quadriplegic Christian author and speaker Joni Eareckson Tada—drew criticism and confusion from Hollywood for beating out musicians featured in more popular films. The latest news stokes the debate even further, given that Oscar lobbying and campaigning are arguably common practices.

The nomination has received negative reactions not for its quality, but for the film's endorsements by James Dobson, Rick Santorum, and Josh Dugger, executive director of Family Resource Council Action, among others. Film.com framed the movie as endorsed by "anti-gay hate group activists," while the Boston Globe headline reads, "The Oscar nomination that stinks to heaven." Hitflix writes: "There were audible gasps and chuckles when Cheryl Boone Isaacs began reading the list of nominees in the category, and first off the bat was "Alone Yet Not Alone" from, er, Alone Yet Not Alone…It doesn't seem a stretch to call this Christian drama the most obscure feature film nominated for an Oscar this year."

“I was grateful for the attention the nomination brought to this worthy song and the inspirational film behind it,” said Tada, who is founder and CEO of Joni and Friends International Disability Center.

The nomination brought attention to “the ongoing work of Joni and Friends to people affected by disabilities,” she said. “The decision by the Academy to rescind the nomination may well bring even further attention, and I only hope it helps to further extend the message and impact of the song.”

A diving accident in 1967 left Joni Eareckson, then 17, a quadriplegic, without the use of her hands. During her rehabilitation, she learned how to paint with a brush between her teeth, and she has since become a well-known artist. She is the author of an autobiography, “Joni,” which was made into a feature film in 1979, with Tada playing herself.

The nomination of Alone Yet Not Alone surprised many, since the film, which details how the Christian faith sustained a family captured by the Delaware Indians during the French-Indian War, had a limited release before a tiny audience. It will be released in full later this year.

“Regarding the reasons for the nomination being rescinded, it is not my place to speculate as I have no insights into the workings of the entertainment industry,” she said. “If it were for reasons connected with the faith-based message of this film, we shouldn’t be surprised that Hollywood shuns Christ and His message. He was shunned by weightier adversaries than those in the field of entertainment.”

The nomination of a song by a singer with 51 percent of her lung capacity showed the possibilities inherent in any disabled person, she said.

Mandatory Porn Safe-sex with Inspections: LA Votes

Los Angeles, CA voters approved a law mandating use of condoms by the pornography industry.  The new law will establish a restaurant-like permitting system complete with on-set inspections by county officials.  Pornographers, who plan to sue on constitutional grounds, complain that government regulations are killing their industry, and claim that Christians are secretly behind the new law and lied to voters.

-- From "LA County Voters Mandate Condom Use on Porn Sets" by The Associated Press 11/8/12

The measure requires adult film producers to apply for a permit from the county Department of Public Health to shoot sex scenes. Permit fees will finance periodic inspections of film sets to enforce compliance.

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which sponsored the initiative, says the measure will help safeguard the public, as well as porn workers, from sexually transmitted infections.

But the adult film industry, which is largely centered in the San Fernando Valley in suburban Los Angeles, says the requirement is unnecessary since the industry already polices itself by requiring performers to undergo monthly tests for HIV and other infections.

The industry also says the requirement would damage it since porn viewers will not watch sex scenes with condoms, and force adult film producers to relocate to where they can make movies that will sell.

From "L.A. county porn shoots must use condoms" by Michelle Castillo, CBS News 11/7/12

California and New Hampshire are the only two states that legally allow adult films to be produced. Previously, the permit was required in Los Angeles city, but now the regulations will be expanded to 85 other cities in Los Angeles county.

But, the Los Angeles Times opposed the measure, saying that demand for unprotected sex in films will just increase the number of people who will circumvent the law, leading to more underground and possibly unsafe performances.

But, The AIDS Healthcare Foundation said a 2004 HIV scare and a 2012 syphilis scare that temporarily shut down the industry and infected at least nine was enough evidence that testing in the porn industry wasn't working.

From "How will L.A. County enforce the law requiring condoms in porn?" posted at Los Angeles Times 11/8/12

The answer could mean the prospect of government inspectors on porn sites watching if condoms are being used, and surprise inspections of unlicensed porn shoots. It’s possible that regulators would view adult movies for evidence of violations.

AIDS activists call the measure similar to requiring restaurants to obtain a public health permit and submit to surprise inspections. Bathhouses and sex clubs – businesses where gay and bisexual men meet for anonymous sex – are  inspected quarterly by the county Public Health Department and pay annual fees of more than $1,000 each. The businesses are required to offer free condoms and on-site testing of HIV.

If porn companies move elsewhere in California, [AIDS Healthcare Foundation president Michael] Weinstein said they would still be violating Cal/OSHA rules, which require employers to protect workers from potentially infectious bodily fluids.

The former Pennsylvania senator argues that "current federal 'obscenity' laws prohibit distribution of hardcore [obscene] pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier."

“The Obama administration has turned a blind eye to those who wish to preserve our culture from the scourge of pornography and has refused to enforce obscenity laws,” the statement read in part. “While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum administration.”

“A wealth of research is now available demonstrating that pornography causes profound brain changes in both children and adults, resulting in widespread negative consequences,” the statement noted. “Addiction to pornography is now common for adults and even for some children. The average age of first exposure to hardcore Internet pornography is now 11. Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking.”

[Santorum] hasn't made any notable mention of the pornography issue on the campaign trail, and it's one of several position papers he's given on the issue section of his campaign website.

Joanna Angel, who has appeared in numerous adult videos and is the owner of XXX-film production company Burning Angel Entertainment, called Santorum's proposal "infuriating."

Ryan Keely, an adult film actress and sex advice columnist, said Santorum's declared war on smut "is clearly an attempt to excite his conservative base. There is no way pornography will be shut down."

From "Rick Santorum vows to end 'pandemic of pornography.' Could he prevail?" by Patrik Jonsson, Staff Writer, Christian Science Monitor 3/17/12

. . . despite pornography's ubiquity, there's no reason US attorneys can't step up prosecutions of people who flout anti-obscenity laws, especially against domestic purveyors. As recently as 2006 a federal jury found an Arizona company guilty of breaking obscenity laws for distributing hardcore pornography across state lines. The FBI announced 38 child pornography-related guilty verdicts or pleas this month alone.

“In most parts of the country, a lot of pornography on the Internet would plausibly be seen as obscene,” UCLA constitutional law professor Eugene Volokh told the Daily Caller, which publicized the overlooked Santorum position paper this week. “You can’t prosecute them all … but you can find certain types of pornography that are sufficiently unpopular” for easy convictions, he told the conservative news site

And while Santorum's criticism of the Obama administration for failing to bring more obscenity cases to court may or may not be fair, the administration's tack, legal scholars say, follows a general pattern dating back to at least 2000, a point where, because of liberalized attitudes wrought by the Internet, it became clear to many prosecutors that an all-out war on pornography that depicts consensual sex would be difficult to win.

Kids are Hazardous to Marriage, Say Liberal Studies

The liberals' war on childbirth rages in studies, in the media, from the White House, and in a new Hollywood effort showing an unmarried, "platonic" man and woman who decide to conceive and raise a child in a loveless relationship.

It's obvious why liberals prioritize public education, including college: If they don't give birth to their own children, they must use such institutions to indoctrinate other people's kids, otherwise liberals will become extinct.

-- From "Years of research point to strain kids put on relationships" by Sharon Jayson, USA TODAY 3/7/12

More than 25 separate studies in the past two decades find that marital quality takes a dive with a baby's birth: babies raise stress, reduce happiness and otherwise upset the household, experts say. The movie, [Friends with Kids,] out Friday, points to that in a tagline: "Love. Happiness. Kids. Pick two."

"Kids do lower marital satisfaction and there's not much we seem to be able to do to prevent it," says Brian Doss, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. He is among researchers whose intervention studies haven't succeeded in stopping sharp declines in relationship satisfaction. "The fact that we've been largely unsuccessful may suggest it's a really difficult and tough experience and it's not necessarily a deficit in these couples' relationships or how they're approaching it."

Ninety percent of the 218 couples in an eight-year study Doss co-authored experienced a decline in satisfaction, he says.

Does parenthood ruin everything?

In a word, yes. At least, that's the case if you believe the characters of Friends With Kids . . .

After popping out a kid or two, your now-cavernous vagina will be as empty as your social calendar—or so fears poor Julie, the film's heroine (Jennifer Westfeldt). . . .

The movie punctures the smugness of parents who deem their single friends selfish, but doesn't mock people who choose to have kids. Bored bachelor Jason wants children, but realizes, after watching his friends go through the process of obtaining them, that "The setup is flawed." The messy business of childrearing saps the crackling heat from a marriage; couples go from not being able to keep their hands off of each other to not wanting to be in the same room. So why not just go for it with his best friend Julie? They're both gainfully employed Manhattanites, they're in love—the call-each-other-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night-yet-somehow-entirely-platonic variety—they both want kids, and they're not getting any younger. Julie seems to be in her late 30s, and gets pregnant after a deeply awkward, sweetly adolescent one-night stand with Jason—a minor miracle the denizens of Upper West Side fertility clinics would surely envy. Once the little bundle of joy arrives, things get, you guessed it, a little more complicated.

“Friends With Kids” is hilarious for viewers who have already survived the harrowing first years of parenthood and, if married, have remained so. For those married folk who haven’t had kids and plan to some day, it might be better considered as a horror flick. Or birth control.

Overall, the movie reminded me of the day I, fully pregnant at the time, approached a mother overseeing two kids and asked if she had any advice for an about-to-be-new mom.

The mother looked at me with two earnest, pleading, bagged eyes. “It’s hard on the marriage,” she said. “It’s hard to be nice to each other when neither of you is sleeping.”

Between them, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have as many children — 12 — as there were tribes of Israel. Ron Paul has five of his own, and in an early debate, perhaps unwilling to be outdone by Michele Bachmann’s fostering of dozens, Paul boasted that when he worked as a physician he delivered “4,000 babies.”

. . . What the Republican front-runners seem to be saying is this: We are like the biblical patriarchs. As conservative religious believers, we take seriously the biblical injunction to be fruitful and multiply

Especially worrisome is the inevitable corollary to that belief: Women should put their natural fertility first — before their brains, before their ability to earn a living, before their independence — because that’s what God wants.

And now, with their crusade against birth control, the Catholic bishops are helping to articulate and elevate that unspoken and archaic value in public. Fertility is a gift from God, they say.

To which I say this: We’ve come a long way from the days of the Bible, baby, and I don’t want to go back there.

. . . as a point-by-point guidebook to modern domestic life [the Bible is] nearly worthless.

A porn industry representative said Tuesday she opposed Los Angeles City Hall's efforts to require condoms on porn performers, calling it an unnecessary intrusion. The group did not rule out lawsuits or other measures to fight the measure.

"We're looking at all of our options and talking to the industry heads," said Diane Duke, of the San Fernando Valley-based Free Speech Coalition, a porn industry lobbying group. "The government is intruding into the sexual behavior of consenting adults."

Duke said Tuesday that another reason is that some porn performers prefer to not use condoms, saying "it's really hard on their bodies" during lengthy, grueling shooting schedules. "It's very different on a set … We're in favor of choice for performers." AIDS Healthcare Foundation President Michael Weinstein said there are many performers who do want mandatory condoms, such as Jenna Jameson, and that condoms are consistently used in gay porn.

From "Porn industry could leave LA if condoms required" by The Associated Press, USA TODAY 1/18/12

"It's going to be interesting to see how in fact they do try to enforce it and who's going to fund it, and all of the time and effort they're going to spend," said Steven Hirsch, co-founder and co-chairman of Los Angeles-based Vivid, one of the largest makers of erotic movies.

"The only thing that the city could potentially achieve is losing some film permit money and driving some productions away, but you can't actually compel an industry to create a product that the market doesn't want," said Christian Mann, general manager of Evil Angel, another of the industry's largest production companies.

[Veteran porn actress and producer Tabitha] Stevens said, she has worked both with and without condoms. Although she prefers to use condoms, acknowledging they do increase safety, she said the choice should be left up to the performers and not mandated by a government agency.

Pediatricians: Kids Need Healthier Sex Ed

Calling media portrayals of sex “unhealthy,” the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has issued new guidelines calling on all media outlets to present human sexuality in a healthy, scientifically accurate manner. At the same time, the group promoted the use of contraceptives among teenagers and denigrated abstinence-only education.

UPDATE 9/7/10: Coverage by Washington Times

-- From "American Academy of Pediatrics Says Media Portrayal of Sex ‘Unhealthy'" by Matt Cover, CNSNews.com Staff Writer 9/3/10

“There is a major disconnect between what mainstream media portray – casual sex and sexuality with no consequences – and what children and teenagers need – straightforward information about human sexuality and the need for contraception when having sex,” the AAP said.

This proliferation of inaccurate sexual messages has had documented effects on youth sexual behavior, the AAP reported. Kids exposed to sexual material on television are almost twice as likely to engage in sexually risky behavior at a younger age than youth whose parents limit their exposure to sexually saturated media.

These negative trends are happening at a time when public sexual education has favored a scientifically unfounded, abstinence only approach, said the organization, adding that as public policy has avoided providing youth with accurate information about sex, the media have become the sexual educator of “last resort.”

“Because so many sex education programs have recently been focused on abstinence only, the media have arguably become one of the leading sex educators in the United States today,” the AAP said. “Yet, parents and legislators fail to understand that although they may favor abstinence-only sex education (despite the lack of any evidence of its effectiveness), the media are decidedly not abstinence only.”

UPDATE 10/13/10: Free speech advocate says don't blame porn industry as "knee jerk" reaction.

-- From "Activists to target porn agents in latest push for increased regulation" by Molly Hennessy-Fiske, Los Angeles Times 4/14/10

An advocacy group that has been demanding greater government protections for adult film performers plans to file a complaint Thursday with state regulators against nine Los Angeles-area porn talent agencies.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation officials, opening a new front in their fight with the porn industry, said they plan to send a letter to State Labor Commissioner Angela Bradstreet arguing the agencies encourage porn performers to engage in unsafe sex that puts them at risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases.

The nonprofit foundation, based in Los Angeles, has been campaigning for increased regulation of the porn industry since a 2004 HIV outbreak among performers in the San Fernando Valley.

[One] agency’s owner, a former porn actress known as Shy Love, said she believes AIDS Healthcare activists are on a witch hunt.

Love said she cannot dictate what sex acts the performers she represents are willing to do. She said her job is simply to match performers with production companies and projects, just as a mainstream movie agent would.

“We make sure our performers are well taken care of,” said Diane Duke, executive director of the Free Speech Coalition, a Canoga Park-based porn trade association. “This is a legal, vital and important industry.”

School Competition: British Lawmakers Consider Religious Schools (some odd)

The failure of public education has spurred interest in government encouragement of privately-controlled schools, including schools run by any number of religions, such as actress Goldie Hawn's Buddhist school of meditation, where "simple breathing exercises can boost a child’s ability to absorb knowledge."

-- From "Class, say hello to Miss Hawn" by Jonathan Oliver, London Sunday Times 2/14/10

The Conservatives are planning a schools revolution — with the help of the French, the Swedes and Goldie Hawn, the Hollywood actress.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Michael Gove, the shadow schools secretary, disclosed that he was in talks with the French government and a Swedish education chain to set up state schools in Britain.

The Tories have faced criticism that their policies on tackling the budget deficit and recognising marriage in the tax system are ill thought out. However, schools reform is one area where the party is ready to move quickly if it wins the general election.

The idea is that charities, churches and parents’ groups will be given the freedom to set up schools in the state sector. Hundreds of schools, particularly in deprived areas, will be taken out of local authority control and given new management.

The new schools will receive about £5,000 for each pupil they attract and to encourage them to set up in the inner cities they will receive a premium for each pupil from a deprived background. It is understood this extra cash will amount to about £1,000 per child.

Until now it had been assumed that most of the new schools would be set up by the main churches and existing sponsors of city academies.

The third potential new entrant to the British schools market is Hawn, the 64-year-old American comedy actress. Hawn, who was brought up Jewish but turned to Buddhism in mid-life, promotes through her Hawn Foundation charity a teaching programme known as MindUp which incorporates ideas of eastern meditation.

Hauled into Court for Expressing Opinion on Religion

A Dutch court has ordered prosecutors to put a right-wing politician on trial for making anti-Islamic statements.

-- From "Islam film Dutch MP to be charged" BBC News 1/21/09

Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders made a controversial film last year equating Islam with violence and has likened the Koran to Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf.

The opening scenes of Fitna - a Koranic term sometimes translated as "strife" - show a copy of the holy book followed by footage of the bomb attacks on the US on 11 September 2001, London in July 2005 and Madrid in March 2004.

"In a democratic system, hate speech is considered so serious that it is in the general interest to... draw a clear line," the court in Amsterdam said.

Mr Wilders said the judgement was an "attack on the freedom of expression".

"Participation in the public debate has become a dangerous activity. If you give your opinion, you risk being prosecuted," he said.

The three judges said that they had weighed Mr Wilders's "one-sided generalisations" against his right to free speech, and ruled that he had gone beyond the normal leeway granted to politicians.

"The court also considers appropriate criminal prosecution for insulting Muslim worshippers because of comparisons between Islam and Nazism made by Wilders," [the court said in a statement.]

Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende said at the time that the film wrongly equated Islam with violence and served "no purpose other than to offend".

Homosexual Activists Protest at Pro-Gay Movie

Yes, it's convoluted: Texas activists are protesting a movie theater corporation gaining revenue by showing a pro-gay movie, because the corporation CEO (but NOT the corporation) donated money to support traditional marriage in California (Proposition 8).

-- From "Gay rights protestors to boycott Cinemark’s showing of ‘Milk’" by Heather M. Smith, Staff writer, Plano Courier Star 12/12/08

Friday night protestors gathered to boycott showings of the recently released movie “Milk” at the Cinemark Legacy in Plano. The protestors are expected to return on Saturday.

“Milk,” starring Sean Penn, is about Harvey Milk, a gay rights activist from the 1970s.

Israel Luna, a gay independent filmmaker from Dallas, serves as segment producer for DVtv, Dallas Voice’s online video news outlet. This is the first time Luna has organized a protest. He said the recent controversy surrounding Cinemark and the movie inspired him to get involved.

Luna said he first learned of the protests around the country on FaceBook and through the campaign “No Milk for Cinemark.”

“This issue is important because we want to give a message to people in higher positions that if they have an archaic way of thinking, there will be consequences,” Luna said.

The issue that sparked Luna’s involvement in the protest is that Cinemark CEO Alan Stock contributed $9,999 to Yes on 8, the campaign to outlaw same-sex marriage in California. Now Cinemark, the nation’s third-largest theater chain, will profit from showings of “Milk.”

In an e-mailed statement the Plano-based company released, Cinemark officials said it “did not make any financial contribution to either side on the Proposition 8 vote in California.”

Kid's Movie Lampoons Homeschooling

Villian in "Horton Hears a Who?" is a homeschool mom...

From "Pouch-schoolers be prepared: Horton's writers don't like you" by Fran Eaton, at Illinois Review, posted 3/15/08

Beware, home school moms: be notified beforehand that you've been typecast into the role of villainess in this weekend's children's smash hit "Horton Hears a Who?"

Settled down with our three and five year old grandsons Saturday afternoon, I was eager and prepared to point out the importance of a precious little speck floating throughout the movie's opening frames. It would be a perfect teaching moment to share with them Dr. Seuss' immortal, pro-life theme: "A person's a person, no matter how small."

But just minutes into the movie I gasped as one of the story's key characters was introduced to the story line. An arrogant, snooty, evil, uncaring, and yes, unbelieving female antagonist named Kangaroo is introduced, and her little one pokes his head out of his mommy's pouch. Kangaroo (with Carol Burnett's voice)sniffs and says, "He's pouch-schooled." Pouch-schooled...home-schooled.
