Failed HIV Test on Gay Porn Star = Disease Spreads

President Obama's agency charged with ensuring the safety of the sexual revolution has determined that a homosexual pornography performer who had tested negative for HIV was, in fact HIV positive, and infected with rectal gonorrhea when he unknowingly infected a porn co-worker plus another person, as well as participated in unprotected anal sex with over a dozen others over a period of days.
"Adult film performers and production companies, medical providers, and all persons at risk for HIV should be aware that testing alone is not sufficient to prevent HIV transmission."

Researchers say a 25-year-old male porn actor, labeled "Patient A," tested negative for HIV in 2014 and over the next 22 days had unprotected sex with at least 17 people who hailed from seven US states and four countries.

Then an HIV test came back positive, and further tests showed he likely transmitted the virus to two men: Another adult-film actor and a non-work-related partner tested HIV positive less than a month after their encounters with Patient A and showed a similar strain of the virus, reports Live Science.

Some porn companies require that actors have a negative HIV test within two weeks of filming. But MD Magazine reports tests can't detect the virus within the first 14 days of infection.

From "Porn Star Spreads HIV After Negative Test Result; CDC Warns Industry Needs More Than Testing" by Ali Venosa, Medical Daily 2/13/16

. . . This prompted an investigation into the partners' patient A had contact with between the time he received his negative result and his recent examination. Of the 17 named sexual contacts, the CDC found six were chronically HIV-infected; one had sexual contact with patient A before patient A was infected; and 10 were at risk for infection by patient A." And of the seven of 10 partners patient A had unprotected sex with, two became infected.

Adult film production companies first check a database to ensure the performers they hire have had a recent negative test before filming, the CDC said. But to partially protect performer privacy, production companies are only informed of whether a performer is cleared to perform (or not) on the basis of test results. Since patient A's onset didn't occur until 10 days after his negative test, companies hired him to perform in "bareback films," which involve condom-less anal sex among male performers. This, unfortunately, is only the beginning of the problem, the CDC said.

Employers are required to ensure a safe working environment by law, so the CDC suggests employing multiple strategies to reduce HIV transmission among adult performers. Frequent HIV testing, use of condoms, and some antiretroviral medicines are but a few effective methods the industry can consider. Some antiretroviral drugs have been approved for use as "pre-exposure prophylaxis" (PrEP), a treatment for those who don't have HIV but are at high risk of infection.

From "Testing Porn Stars Isn't Stopping HIV" by John Tozzi, Bloomberg Business 2/12/16

The debate over whether to force porn actors to wear condoms is a controversial one that’s been playing out for years in California, home of the multibillion-dollar American porn industry. An HIV outbreak in 2004 spooked the industry and briefly shut down production.

Adult film productions may face greater pressure on two fronts in 2016. On Feb. 18, a state board appointed by California's governor to set standards for workplace safety will vote on proposed regulations to explicitly mandate condom use on sets. In November, new rules for the industry will also be put to Californians statewide on a ballot measure that would, among other things, require condom use and allow any state resident to sue to enforce the law. Both could extend restrictions now in place in Los Angeles throughout the state.

The adult entertainment industry opposes the rules. The industry's own voluntary system requires performers to get biweekly HIV tests before working without condoms. Productions that adhere to those standards have not had an HIV transmission in more than a decade, says Eric Paul Leue, the recently hired executive director of the Free Speech Coalition, which represents adult film producers. . . .

Calif. Sex Worker Abortionist Teachers Exposed

Parents of Acalanes High School in Lafayette, California (suburban San Francisco), who months ago demanded that Planned Parenthood employees be removed from the school's sex education curriculum, have discovered that those instructors are paid not only by abortionists, but also make a living in the sex industry.

In addition, parents' attorneys have presented evidence of the school's violation of federal and state laws regarding parental notice by singling out and shaming students who refuse to advance the school's Gay Agenda.

. . . At least two of the instructors had questionable day jobs, with one conducting sex toy workshops at a local porn shop. Another, who dubbed herself a “pleasure activist,” had attended pornography conferences with other Planned Parenthood employees.

One instructor leads a “pleasure workshop”—in which the use of sex toys are demonstrated at a store called Good Vibrations in nearby Berkeley. It was not immediately clear if the instructor told students of the store’s offerings.

They also discovered that a second instructor at Acalanes High School who was an education manager for Planned Parenthood Northern California, had boasted that she was a “pleasure activist” online and also commented on her twitter feed that she attended the CatalystCon pornography conference. The conference attracts members of the porn industry and has workshops and panels that discusses topics like using explicit instructional media for sex ed, the history of sex toys and how to effectively share your sex life on the stage and on the page.

From "SF Bay Area School Permits Queer Straight Alliance to Bully Students" posted at Pacific Justice Institute 2/5/15

Attorneys with Pacific Justice Institute sent a demand letter to attorneys for Acalanes High School late Wednesday over incidents last week where students were singled out and ostracized for their beliefs.  Students reported that, on Jan. 29, members of the school’s Queer Straight Alliance (QSA) took over all freshmen English classes to grill students about their beliefs and their parents’ beliefs on LGBT issues.  The QSA had students step forward to demonstrate whether they believed that being gay was a choice and whether their parents would be accepting if they came out as gay. Students who did not step forward were ridiculed and humiliated.  The QSA also gave students a handout of LGBT terminology such as “pan-sexual,” “demi-sexual,” “gray gender,” and about a dozen other terms.  The QSA also had students line up to demonstrate where they fell on the “gender spectrum.”

. . . PJI further explained that the school’s actions violated the students’ constitutional privacy rights.  The letter demands that the school immediately cease the interrogations and suspend the QSA.  The letter also demands all public records associated with the events of Jan. 29, including e-mails from school officials who approved it.

A health department official declined to release any information regarding when the transmission had taken place or which company it involved, citing privacy restrictions, but said the apparent transmission occurred in Nevada.

Several porn companies have moved shoots out of the county over the last two years in response to the ordinance [requiring condoms]. The number of porn filmmakers applying for permits in LA County has declined sharply, from 485 in 2012 to 40 in 2013.

From "Condom free speech argument fails to stand up in court" by Rory Carroll in Los Angeles for The UK Guardian 12/16/14

The [Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals] ruled on Monday that an LA county ordinance mandating condoms in films did not violate the adult entertainment industry’s first amendment rights.

Vivid Entertainment, Califa Productions and other producers had argued that the 2012 ordinance [Measure B], which was passed by voters, restricted their ability to create alluring scenarios free of real-word concerns like pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

Diana Duke, head of the Free Speech Coalition, an industry group, said in a statement that the condom mandate was “terrible” policy [and that] performers disliked condoms because aggravated friction amid bright lights and prolonged periods of penetration caused discomfort and impeded erections.

The number of permits issued for adult films in LA county had fallen 95% since measure B passed, said Duke. However, as a film can be shot in a few days in a private house without a permit, it is unclear how much production has fled.

A Venice High School student, 15-year-old Julian Luis Mathena, also was arrested and charged with human trafficking, the Venice Police Department announced Tuesday.

The alleged ring first came to light in October after four students at Venice High School told administrators that De Armas and Mathena wanted them to join, according to police. About the same time, police looked into reports of a Riverview High School student's involvement with [a 21-year-old customer, John Michael] Mosher.

The two students are said to have come up with a plan over the summer to prostitute teens for money and alcohol. Police documents indicate that the ringleader arranged for Mosher to have sex with the 15-year-old girl in a community pool shed in August.

Police reported Monday that they had also arrested John Michael Mosher, 21, on a felony charge of sexual battery on a victim older than 12. In August, he reportedly paid $40 and a bottle of liquor to have sex with a 15-year-old girl that Mathena and De Armas recruited from Riverview High School.

Mattmuller said the girl appeared to have been the only person prostituted by Mathena and De Armas, although at least four more had been solicited by the pair after they were paid by Mosher.

After Mosher paid for the sex, the police reports said, De Armas and an accomplice began trying to recruit other girls to have sex with clients to gain money and alcohol. They planned to use some of the money to buy narcotics, according to witness statements to police.

During a police investigation after a search warrant was issued for De Armas' Facebook account, police said they found conversations between potential business partners, participants and details of how transactions would be made; prices for services included $50 to $70 to perform oral sex and $100 for intercourse with a virgin. They considered a 40 percent profit split for prostitutes.

British Gov't to End Kids' Access to On-line Porn

In a major speech, the U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron characterized the modern culture as an immoral cesspool created by the freedom of the Internet, and he proposed myriad government actions to control that freedom for the specific purpose of saving children -- apparently wanting to return to a society of bygone days.

Unfortunately, there are two major hurdles: Technology analysts say there is no longer any means to effectively filter pornography from children, and worse yet, most adults are ineffective at parenting their children (and government is no substitute for parents).

I want to talk about the internet, the impact it is having on the innocence of our children, how online pornography is corroding childhood . . .
I want Britain to be the best place to raise a family. Where there's a sense of right and wrong, and boundaries between them. Where children are allowed to be children.
-- David Cameron, Prime Minister
For background, read Pornography Creates 5-year-old Sex Offenders: British Police Reports

In addition, read Kids Choose Porn as Better Teacher than School and also read Education Experts Say Use Porn in Teaching Sex Ed as well as President Obama Enables Pornographers

-- From "Online pornography to be blocked by default, PM announces" posted at BBC 7/22/13

In his speech, Mr Cameron said family-friendly filters would be automatically selected for all new customers by the end of the year - although they could choose to switch them off.

And millions of existing computer users would be contacted by their internet providers and told they must decide whether to use or not use "family-friendly filters" to restrict adult material.

He told the BBC he expected a "row" with service providers who, he said in his speech, were "not doing enough to take responsibility" despite having a "moral duty" to do so.

He also warned he could have to "force action" by changing the law and that, if there were "technical obstacles", firms should use their "greatest brains" to overcome them.

From "Cameron cracks down on 'corroding influence' of online pornography" by Nicholas Watt and Charles Arthur, The Guardian (UK) 7/21/13

In the most dramatic step by the government to crack down on the "corroding" influence of pornography on childhood . . . changes will be introduced by the end of next year.

The prime minister's speech is designed to answer critics who accuse him of talking tough but failing to take action. . . .

To read the entire article above, CLICK HERE.

From "UK wants to restrict access to online porn" by Doug Gross, CNN 7/22/13

. . . Not surprisingly, Web freedom advocates and other critics were quick to decry the plan. For one, many say effective Web filters simply don't exist.

"As a technological feat, it would be utterly impossible," columnist Andy Dawson wrote in the Daily Mirror, a nationwide tabloid frequently critical of Cameron's Conservative Party.

"His porn shield speech today, and the proposals that are in it are the deranged ravings of someone who has decided that something must be done, has decided what it is, but doesn't (realize) that it isn't actually feasible. He's got just as much chance of banning (gray) clouds while giving us all access to the nice white, fluffy ones."

Critics say that automated filtering technology inevitably allows offensive material through accidentally as well as creating "false positives" that block inoffensive content. Others, such as BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones, say default-on filters can create a false sense of security among parents, who could become more lax in monitoring their children's online behavior.

From "Protecting children online: David Cameron's full speech" posted at publicservice.co.uk 7/22/13

This is, quite simply, about how we protect our children and their innocence.

The fact is that the growth of the internet as an unregulated space has thrown up two major challenges when it comes to protecting our children.

The first challenge is criminal: and that is the proliferation and accessibility of child abuse images on the internet.

The second challenge is cultural: the fact that many children are viewing online pornography and other damaging material at a very young age and that the nature of that pornography is so extreme, it is distorting their view of sex and relationships.

. . . when it comes to the internet in the balance between freedom and responsibility, we have neglected our responsibility to our children.

[The Internet] has an impact: on the children who view things that harm them, on the vile images of abuse that pollute minds and cause crime, on the very values that underpin our society.

. . . it used to be that society could protect children by enforcing age restrictions on the ground whether that was setting a minimum age for buying top-shelf magazines, putting watersheds on the TV, or age rating films and DVDs.

[But now, for] a lot of children, watching hardcore pornography – is in danger of becoming a rite of passage.

In schools up and down our country, from the suburbs to the inner city, there are young people who think it's normal to send pornographic material as a prelude to dating in the same way you might once have sent a note across the classroom.

. . . the effect can be devastating.

Our children are growing up too fast.

They are getting distorted ideas about sex and being pressured in a way we have never seen before.

. . . I am absolutely clear that the state has a vital role to play.

. . . the search engines are not doing enough to take responsibility.

. . . they are effectively denying responsibility.

[They argue] that the search engines shouldn't be involved in finding out where these [pornographic] images are - that they are just the 'pipe' that delivers the images and that holding them responsible would be a bit like holding the Post Office responsible for sending on illegal objects in anonymous packages.

But that analogy isn't quite right.

Because the search engine doesn't just deliver the material that people see it helps to identify it.

Companies like Google make their living out of trawling and categorising content on the web so that in a few key-strokes you can find what you're looking for out of unimaginable amounts of information.

Then they sell advertising space to companies, based on your search patterns.

So to return to that analogy, it would be like the Post Office helping someone to identify and order the illegal material in the first place – and then sending it onto them in which case they absolutely would be held responsible for their actions.

So quite simply: we need the search engines to step up to the plate on this.

. . . here's an example.

If someone is typing in 'child' and 'sex' there should come up a list of options:

'Do you mean child sex education?'

'Do you mean child gender?'

What should not be returned is a list of pathways into illegal images . . .

Then there are some searches which are so abhorrent and where there can be no doubt whatsoever about the sick and malevolent intent of the searcher that there should be no search results returned at all.

Put simply - there needs to be a list of terms – a black list – which offer up no direct search returns.

So I have a very clear message for Google, Bing, Yahoo and the rest.

You have a duty to act on this – and it is a moral duty.

I simply don't accept the argument that some of these companies have used to say that these searches should be allowed because of freedom of speech.

. . . And there's a further message I have for the search engines.

If there are technical obstacles to acting on this, don't just stand by and say nothing can be done; use your great brains to help overcome them.

. . . You are not separate from our society, you are part of our society, and you must play a responsible role in it.

The event has a history on campus, with Sex Week traditionally held every other year at the school. The tradition gained national attention when student Nathan Harden wrote a book that was published in 2012, “Sex and God at Yale.”

Harden wrote about lessons in masturbation and oral sex and his disillusionment with the Ivy League school he had dreamed of attending.

[Kelly] Stone, a sex educator and comedian, will be presenting GREYed expectations on Wednesday as part of Sub-Board, Inc.’s (SBI) Sex Week. Her performance, a combination of education and comedy, focuses on consent and communication in sex and sexuality, according to Jane Fischer, director of SBI Health Education.

Sex Week is a collection of events hosted through SBI that focus on “education, exploration and discussion of healthy sexuality,” Fischer said. . . .

Demire Williams, assistant director of health services, met Stone at the National Sex Ed Conference in New Jersey this fall and enjoyed the way Stone delivered material in a way that made the audience laugh while simultaneously provoking thought about healthy sexuality, Fischer said. When Williams asked Stone to come speak at UB, she agreed.

Stone believes because the country is founded on Puritan heritage and values, as in The Scarlet Letter, there is a lot of sex phobia. However, at the same time, movies and advertisements feature sex heavily because sex sells. So while sex is everywhere, people are still afraid to discuss it.

According to the university’s official webpage, the oral-sex symposium will include discussion on “going down on men and women, techniques as well as individual differences and sexual health practices. Yes, expect tea.”

Another workshop, titled “Partner Acrobatics,” advertises that members of a circus will “teach you (and your friends) how to stand on shoulders and every other place on the body.”

The session titled “Anal 101” is billed as a course on the “logistics and pleasures of anal sex.” It features lessons on “prep, protection, barebacking, etc.”

Annie has many titles. Porn star. Pleasure activist. Performance artist. Ecosex pioneer. Prostitute. . . .

It wasn’t just the tangible pleasure of sex that attracted her to this calling. There was something essentially beautiful about sexuality to Annie, something incredibly important, powerful and universal.

Annie headed up a cast of sex educators and experts stationed outside the Allen Hall cafeteria for the night event advertised as a “Free Sidewalk Sex Clinic.” Others in attendance included Sexual Health Peers and a representative from Illini Arcade, a local adult store.

To the right of Annie’s booth, Elizabeth Simpson, a local sex educator, held an anatomically correct model of a vagina in one hand. It was made from stuffed pantyhose and some purple fabric. Pausing from the tarot reading, Annie watched as Simpson launched into a demonstrative ballad about using a speculum and proper technique for finding the cervix. It’s the kind of performance Annie has a special affinity for.

Brandon Wade, a modern-day "pimp," has created a website to enable a "mutually beneficial relationship" between wealthy men and college girls in need of funds to pay tuition and expenses. The internet entrepreneur says that the website is simply a means for people to meet -- what the consensual parties choose to exchange is their own affair.
"If it's helping people pay for school these days with crazy tuition costs ... whatever."
-- Janna McClure, student at University of North Carolina Upstate

UPDATE 2/4/13 - Chicago CBS WBBM-TV2 Interview with Sugar Baby (video):

-- From "Coeds turning to 'sugar daddies' to pay tuition" by Paul Bedard, The Washington Examiner 1/14/13

The ever-soaring price of college tuition, coupled with a similar jump in student loan debt, has a record number of female coeds turning to "sugar daddies" to help pay for their education and lifestyle, according to a website that links "sugar babies" with "sugar daddies."

The site, SeekingArrangement.com, said that the number of women joining the sight jumped 58 percent last year. . . . "the average college sugar baby receives approximately $3,000 per month to cover the cost of tuition, books and living expenses."

The site claims two million members. In 2011, college students comprised 40% of the members. But after the 58 percent jump last year, they now total 44 percent.

From "Keeping Up With Being Kept" by Ruth Padawer, New York Times 4/10/09

. . . They’re not searching for longtime soul mates; they want no-strings-attached “arrangements” that trade in society’s most valued currencies: wealth, youth and beauty. In the cheesy lexicon of the site, they are “sugar daddies” and “sugar babies.”

There’s the 18-year-old from France asking for $5,000 to $10,000 a month from “a mentor who can provide me with the finer things in life and keep me happy!” And the 49-year-old investor from upstate New York willing to pay $5,000 a month for a “daytime playmate” for “intense connection without commitment.” Critics say the site is at best a convenience store for adulterers and at worst a virtual brothel . . .

This abundance of possibility is part of what the site is selling, along with fantasy. Some of these men — especially those shopping for women half their age — are digging deep into their pockets to pay for an illusion: that despite their receding hairlines and wattled skin, they’re still enchanting enough to charm pretty young women. One image on the site features a dazed, graying man doted on by two barely clad attendants — a caricature of an already caricatured relationship. But this marketing spin doesn’t capture the nuances of the relationships that often develop between the “daddies” and the “babies” who meet on the site — relationships that can turn out to be more complicated than even the members themselves expect. Men may use money as a way to buy themselves out of the normal obligations of romance, like accommodating a woman’s emotional needs as much as their own. But despite the power and security that the money buys, it can also undercut the very ego it’s intended to boost.

From "Seeking Arrangement: College Students Using 'Sugar Daddies' To Pay Off Loan Debt" by Amanda M. Fairbanks, Huffington Post 7/31/11

Saddled with piles of student debt and a job-scarce, lackluster economy, current college students and recent graduates are selling themselves to pursue a diploma or pay down their loans. An increasing number, according to the owners of websites that broker such hook-ups, have taken to the web in search of online suitors or wealthy benefactors who, in exchange for sex, companionship, or both, might help with the bills.

Enter the sugar daddy, sugar baby phenomenon. This particular dynamic preceded the economic meltdown, of course. Rich guys well past their prime have been plunking down money for thousands of years in search of a tryst or something more with women half their age -- and women, willingly or not, have made themselves available. With the whole process going digital, women passing through a system of higher education that fosters indebtedness are using the anonymity of the web to sell their wares and pay down their college loans.

[Website owner Brandon] Wade rewards students who use a .edu email address to register on Seeking Arrangement by automatically upgrading their free, basic membership to a premium membership, allowing them to send unlimited free messages and granting them exclusive access to the site's cadre of VIP sugar daddies. The site also includes a complimentary stamp on student profiles, certifying them as a "college sugar baby."

"The population of college Sugar Babies in Pennsylvania has steadily increased every year, with Temple leading all major universities this year," site founder Brandon Wade said in a statement. "While some may argue that these women are just using men for their own personal gain, I believe that they are proactive in pursuing a higher education."

Mandatory Porn Safe-sex with Inspections: LA Votes

Los Angeles, CA voters approved a law mandating use of condoms by the pornography industry.  The new law will establish a restaurant-like permitting system complete with on-set inspections by county officials.  Pornographers, who plan to sue on constitutional grounds, complain that government regulations are killing their industry, and claim that Christians are secretly behind the new law and lied to voters.
"The idea of allowing a government employee to come and examine our genitalia while we're on set is atrocious."

UPDATE 9/16/13: Multiple HIV-positive porn stars cause filming shutdowns

-- From "LA County Voters Mandate Condom Use on Porn Sets" by The Associated Press 11/8/12

The measure requires adult film producers to apply for a permit from the county Department of Public Health to shoot sex scenes. Permit fees will finance periodic inspections of film sets to enforce compliance.

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which sponsored the initiative, says the measure will help safeguard the public, as well as porn workers, from sexually transmitted infections.

But the adult film industry, which is largely centered in the San Fernando Valley in suburban Los Angeles, says the requirement is unnecessary since the industry already polices itself by requiring performers to undergo monthly tests for HIV and other infections.

The industry also says the requirement would damage it since porn viewers will not watch sex scenes with condoms, and force adult film producers to relocate to where they can make movies that will sell.

From "L.A. county porn shoots must use condoms" by Michelle Castillo, CBS News 11/7/12

California and New Hampshire are the only two states that legally allow adult films to be produced. Previously, the permit was required in Los Angeles city, but now the regulations will be expanded to 85 other cities in Los Angeles county.

But, the Los Angeles Times opposed the measure, saying that demand for unprotected sex in films will just increase the number of people who will circumvent the law, leading to more underground and possibly unsafe performances.

But, The AIDS Healthcare Foundation said a 2004 HIV scare and a 2012 syphilis scare that temporarily shut down the industry and infected at least nine was enough evidence that testing in the porn industry wasn't working.

From "How will L.A. County enforce the law requiring condoms in porn?" posted at Los Angeles Times 11/8/12

The answer could mean the prospect of government inspectors on porn sites watching if condoms are being used, and surprise inspections of unlicensed porn shoots. It’s possible that regulators would view adult movies for evidence of violations.

AIDS activists call the measure similar to requiring restaurants to obtain a public health permit and submit to surprise inspections. Bathhouses and sex clubs – businesses where gay and bisexual men meet for anonymous sex – are  inspected quarterly by the county Public Health Department and pay annual fees of more than $1,000 each. The businesses are required to offer free condoms and on-site testing of HIV.

If porn companies move elsewhere in California, [AIDS Healthcare Foundation president Michael] Weinstein said they would still be violating Cal/OSHA rules, which require employers to protect workers from potentially infectious bodily fluids.

Obama Enables Pornographers, Says Santorum

Presidential candidate Rick Santorum says that President Obama's refusal to enforce obscenity and anti-Internet pornography laws has resulted in a pandemic that harms children. In response, the Obama-empowered pornography industry, which accounts for over 90% of Internet trade, is scoffing at Santorum, telling him to butt out of their gold mine.

On his website, Santorum says he’s “concerned about the widespread distribution of illegal obscene pornography” and accuses the current Justice Department of seeming to “favor pornographers over children and families.”

Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator and social conservative, defended his comments, insisting on CNN's "State of the Union" that prosecution of such cases was much more rigorous under the Bush administration. He provided no facts or statistics to back up his claim.

“My conclusion is, they have not put a priority on prosecuting these cases and in doing so, they are exposing children to tremendous amount of harm,” Santorum said.

From "Santorum: Obama DOJ favors 'pornographers over children'" by Jonathan Easley, The Hill 3/15/12

The former Pennsylvania senator argues that "current federal 'obscenity' laws prohibit distribution of hardcore [obscene] pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier."

“The Obama administration has turned a blind eye to those who wish to preserve our culture from the scourge of pornography and has refused to enforce obscenity laws,” the statement read in part. “While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum administration.”

“A wealth of research is now available demonstrating that pornography causes profound brain changes in both children and adults, resulting in widespread negative consequences,” the statement noted. “Addiction to pornography is now common for adults and even for some children. The average age of first exposure to hardcore Internet pornography is now 11. Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking.”

[Santorum] hasn't made any notable mention of the pornography issue on the campaign trail, and it's one of several position papers he's given on the issue section of his campaign website.

Film production company execs and XXX actors are railing against the Republican presidential candidate's recent call to ban hardcore pornography, calling it an infringement on free speech, a threat to their livelihood, and a pathetic ploy to get votes.

Pornography in America is an obscene "pandemic," Santorum's website says. "It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking."

Joanna Angel, who has appeared in numerous adult videos and is the owner of XXX-film production company Burning Angel Entertainment, called Santorum's proposal "infuriating."

Ryan Keely, an adult film actress and sex advice columnist, said Santorum's declared war on smut "is clearly an attempt to excite his conservative base. There is no way pornography will be shut down."

From "Rick Santorum vows to end 'pandemic of pornography.' Could he prevail?" by Patrik Jonsson, Staff Writer, Christian Science Monitor 3/17/12

. . . despite pornography's ubiquity, there's no reason US attorneys can't step up prosecutions of people who flout anti-obscenity laws, especially against domestic purveyors. As recently as 2006 a federal jury found an Arizona company guilty of breaking obscenity laws for distributing hardcore pornography across state lines. The FBI announced 38 child pornography-related guilty verdicts or pleas this month alone.

“In most parts of the country, a lot of pornography on the Internet would plausibly be seen as obscene,” UCLA constitutional law professor Eugene Volokh told the Daily Caller, which publicized the overlooked Santorum position paper this week. “You can’t prosecute them all … but you can find certain types of pornography that are sufficiently unpopular” for easy convictions, he told the conservative news site

And while Santorum's criticism of the Obama administration for failing to bring more obscenity cases to court may or may not be fair, the administration's tack, legal scholars say, follows a general pattern dating back to at least 2000, a point where, because of liberalized attitudes wrought by the Internet, it became clear to many prosecutors that an all-out war on pornography that depicts consensual sex would be difficult to win.

From "Raquel Welch: the ‘era of porn’ has ‘annihilated’ men" by Kathleen Gilbert, LifeSiteNews.com 3/13/12

As one of America’s most revered sex symbols . . . [Raquel Welch] told Men’s Health Magazine in an interview posted online March 8 that today’s sex-saturated culture had sapped the meaning out of sex, and damaged countless men through the pornography industry, which she called “an exploitation of the poor male’s libidos.”

“It’s just dehumanizing. And I have to honestly say, I think this era of porn is at least partially responsible for it,” Welch said of rampant sexual addiction. “Where is the anticipation and the personalization? It’s all pre-fab now. You have these images coming at you unannounced and unsolicited. It just gets to be so plastic and phony to me.

“I just imagine them sitting in front of their computers, completely annihilated. They haven’t done anything, they don’t have a job, they barely have ambition anymore,” said the 71-year-old actress. “And it makes for laziness and a not very good sex partner. Do they know how to negotiate something that isn’t pre-fab and injected directly into their brain?”

Porn Industry May Leave LA Over 'Safe Sex' Regs

Consistent with the legitimization of a sexualized culture, the Los Angeles City Council voted 9-1 to require pornographic sex performers to use condoms. In response, porn producers are threatening to relocate their commercial enterprises to other states with less government regulations -- taking their billions of ill-gotten gains with them.

The move comes amid persistent questions about how to enforce the health measure, which backers say will protect performers in the multibillion-dollar porn industry from contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Producers complain the sight of a condom in a sex scene turns off consumers of their videos.

. . . passage made the city the first in the nation to impose such a requirement. Most of the U.S. porn industry is based in Los Angeles.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal-OSHA) already requires porn performers to wear barriers, such as condoms, when they are in contact with bodily fluids.

But enforcement has been a challenge for the state. For one, the Cal-OSHA requirement is not specifically aimed at adult films, and it is openly violated within the industry . . .

From "Condoms in porn: Government should not intrude, group says" by Rong-Gong Lin II, Los Angeles Times 1/18/12

A porn industry representative said Tuesday she opposed Los Angeles City Hall's efforts to require condoms on porn performers, calling it an unnecessary intrusion. The group did not rule out lawsuits or other measures to fight the measure.

"We're looking at all of our options and talking to the industry heads," said Diane Duke, of the San Fernando Valley-based Free Speech Coalition, a porn industry lobbying group. "The government is intruding into the sexual behavior of consenting adults."

Duke said Tuesday that another reason is that some porn performers prefer to not use condoms, saying "it's really hard on their bodies" during lengthy, grueling shooting schedules. "It's very different on a set … We're in favor of choice for performers." AIDS Healthcare Foundation President Michael Weinstein said there are many performers who do want mandatory condoms, such as Jenna Jameson, and that condoms are consistently used in gay porn.

"The only thing that the city could potentially achieve is losing some film permit money and driving some productions away, but you can't actually compel an industry to create a product that the market doesn't want," said Christian Mann, general manager of Evil Angel, another of the industry's largest production companies.

[Veteran porn actress and producer Tabitha] Stevens said, she has worked both with and without condoms. Although she prefers to use condoms, acknowledging they do increase safety, she said the choice should be left up to the performers and not mandated by a government agency.

Grey, who has also appeared on HBO's Entourage and other mainstream acting roles, read children's books to students at Emerson Elementary School in Compton last week as part of the Read Across America program, according to TMZ.

She tweeted about the experience, saying students were the "sweetest" ever, but after parents complained, the Compton Unified School District denied that she ever visited the school, TMZ reported.

According to TMZ, a number of parents weren't thrilled to find out that their tots were spending quality time with the star of "Butt Sex Bonanza" and "Deep Throat This 44." Some of them complained to the PTA, who then grilled the school's principal.

"I am proud to have participated in the 'Read Across America' program at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, CA. I read 'Dog Breath' by Dav Pilkey to the sweetest 1st and 3rd grade children," Grey wrote [on Twitter].

"Promoting education is an effort that is close to my heart. Illiteracy contributes to poverty; encouraging children to pick up a book is fundamental. The Compton Unified School District is one of the worst-rated in the country, with less than half the students graduating high school. On one internet forum, parents lash out at the notoriously bad schools, calling the children’s behavior “deplorable,” the curriculum “watered down,” and program in general in need of “a lot of reconstruction.”
