. . . an FAU spokesperson says Federal Law requires all universities to offer training to students about sexual assault and prevention.

"Nationally, approximately 20 percent of women report being assaulted while in college. To help reduce this percentage, federal law now requires all universities offer training to students about sexual assault and prevention, and the U.S. Department of Education recommends mandatory training for all incoming students. To comply with this federal mandate, universities throughout Florida and the nation are rolling out similar training modules," FAU spokesperson Joshua Glanzer said in a statement released to WPTV.

Glanzer says only one percent of the 8000 students required to take the training have expressed concerns.

From "Here’s Why Colleges Are Suddenly Demanding Students’ Sex Histories" by Tess Barker, MTV News 11/19/14

. . . the chief instructional designer [of the sex survey], Jeremy Beckman, tells MTV News that it’s currently being used at hundreds of U.S. schools.

MTV News: How many schools are using the program? Which are some of the most well-known ones?

Jeremy Beckman: Over 200 schools are using the program, and that number is growing, especially now because we’ve rolled out a program that is for graduate students. … I can’t divulge [which schools], it does include a variety from small schools to large schools, private and state schools. Geographically, it’s very diverse — all over the United States.

MTV: What is the motivation behind the program?

. . . Providing training to your students is going to be required [by the U.S. Department of Education]. . . . To be honest with you, asking these questions isn’t our idea. The [federal] Campus SaVE Act is also going to strongly suggest universities take a campus climate [sex] survey…so the types of questions we’re asking are right in line with what schools are going to ask anyway.
