Wisconsin liberals are fuming that officials of Mount Horeb Area School District in a small, remote suburb of the liberal-bastion of Madison have caved to so-called homophobic parents who appealed for help from Christian lawyers to stop their elementary school from suddenly launching a transgender indoctrination program on their first-grade children.

On Monday, students at the Mount Horeb Primary Center were scheduled to hear a reading and discussion of “I Am Jazz,” a book about a transgender child.
But the discussion was cancelled after a Christian legal advocacy group threatened the district with a federal lawsuit. The Liberty Council has been listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center [SPLC] for advocating “anti-LGBT discrimination under the guise of religious liberty.”
In a statement from the Mount Horeb Area School District, Director of Student Services Theresa Daane says the school is providing additional time for parents to review the material.

From "School Plans On Reading Transgender Book, Receives Lawsuit Threat From Parents" by Jean Marie Abellana, iSchoolGuide.com 11/28/15
Earlier this week, a Dane County school became considerate to transgender-related concerns on school activities when it disseminated information to the students' parents notifying about the planned reading and discussion of "I Am Jazz," a children's book that talks about a transgender girl.
The note [to parents] read that the school stood firm on its position where all of its students deserved to be respected and supported regardless of gender expression and identity; hence, it is, therefore, right for them [students] to be educated about the issue of being transgender. It further noted that while the school respects every family's convictions and beliefs, they encouraged the parents to bring out any concerns about their child's participation in the activity.
While there were others who became amenable to the activity, some "concerned parents" have reached out to the Liberty Counsel, a Florida-based group that considered itself as a "non-profit litigation, education, and policy organization," threatening a lawsuit should the school pursue the book reading activity. The parents claimed that such activity was a "violation of parental rights."

. . . The note [to parents], signed by the principal, school psychologist and a counselor, said that the school was working with a student that identifies as a girl but has male anatomy.
Theresa Daane, director of student services for the Mount Horeb Area School District, provided an initial statement on Tuesday after the reading was cancelled, acknowledging "the need for parents to be given the opportunity to consider and discuss information we provide to their children. Accordingly, we intend to balance these needs and allow parents additional time to review the materials we intend to present to students."
Late Wednesday afternoon, the district issued a press release with updated details. It noted that it had "chosen not to proceed as originally planned and allow the Board of Education the opportunity to review the needs of all involved, and address a situation for which the District has no current policy.

From "Re: Inappropriate discussion of gender confusion and sexuality with primary school students" letter to Mount Horeb school district from Liberty Counsel 11/20/15
Dear Board President Seidl:
. . . I write on behalf of concerned parents regarding the attached “Dear Parent” letter that was sent November 19, 2015, to parents of primary school students within the Mount Horeb Area School District (“MHASD” or “the District”).
The letter notifies parents that Principal Rachel Johnson, School Psychologist Nicole Tepe, and School Counselor Emily McKee plan to subject Primary School students to a discussion of gender confusion and sexuality, under the guise of “anti-bullying,” “diversity,” and building a “safe and nurturing environment,” by means of reading to First Graders this coming Monday, November 23, “transgender” activist book “I AM JAZZ”. The letter was sent with one business days’ notice and appears designed to catch parents off-guard, to prevent them from opting their children out of this reading and subsequent discussion.
I hereby request the cancellation of this Monday’s planned reading and discussion, to prevent parental rights violations.
. . . as you may know, “Jazz” Jennings is a male child “transgender” activist, who has been permitted to undergo harmful gender reassignment drug therapy and hormone blockers, resulting in permanent physical changes to his body. The book is a false and misleading book, and the subsequent teaching and discussion will result in [harm to students] . . .
There is no credible medical authority establishing the proposition that biological sex can be changed, or that “mind over matter” is controlling, in areas of identity. The former Chief Psychiatrist for Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Paul McHugh, wrote in a June 12, 2014 Wall Street Journal op-ed that "policy makers and the media are doing no favors either to the public or the transgendered" by not treating transgender "confusions ... as a mental disorder that deserves understanding, treatment and prevention." While students suffering from gender confusion should be treated with kindness and respect, schools should not by their policies or practices attempt to coerce other students and teachers into participating into what amounts to a harmful delusion.
In light of this authority, the District’s letter contains a number of false claims and assumptions to support its course of action. Among these, the letter states that the District is committed to supporting students from a “wide range of...genders” when there are but two genders, male and female. . . .
Among the letter’s false analogies and claims are the following: 1) children are arbitrarily “assigned” a gender at birth, as if the presence of male or female genitalia as the basis for “male” and “female” is an arbitrary decision imposed upon a person; 2) that simply because a child is “born male” but “insists” that child is a girl makes it so; 3) that because a girl likes short hair and likes a “boy” name, she is now a boy; and among the most egregious, 4) that it is possible to have a “girl brain and a boy body.” This claim is completely at odds with the rationale for equality between the sexes: there is no difference between male and female brains or mental abilities, and thus this idea fosters gender stereotypes.
At a minimum, the District’s “plan to support this student in living as ‘her’ authentic self” subjects students to propaganda having no basis in science or reality, to present gender confusion as “normal.” For the record, a mandatory requirement that other students call a boy “her” and “she” infringes upon the other students’ rights to tell the truth, in accordance with their religious convictions, and reality.
Finally, the letter leaves parents to wonder what exactly else is entailed within the “several steps” of the District’s “plan.” Typically, such plans allow gender-confused students to live “authentically” by entering and using the restrooms of the opposite sex. Is it now the policy of the District that the subjective feelings of a child who wishes or thinks he is the opposite sex trumps objective biological and anatomical reality? Is it now district policy that parents and students must accept the unproven belief that “gender identity” is more objectively “real” and more important than is objective biological and anatomical reality?
. . . Boys should leave a bathroom if a girl enters, and girls should leave a bathroom if a boy enters. Boys and girls should not be compelled to use facilities intended for private acts in the presence of those of the opposite sex. Boys have no right to use girls’ restrooms, and girls have no right to use boys’ restrooms. No one has a moral right to compel others to participate in a fiction (including compelling teachers and others to use pronouns that do not correspond to objective biological sex).
The District must cancel this event, and the District must set forth its “plan” so that parents are not subjected to additional surprises like the November 23 propaganda session. The District is not free to override parental rights and religious beliefs, by subjecting impressionable children to confusion about something as important as gender and sexuality. . . .

Must Censor Speech, Say Most College Students
A recent survey proves the success of public education indoctrination of children against freedom of politically incorrect speech: A majority of college students across America believe that colleges should not permit faculty or students to speak freely because "hate speech" is against the law. One-third of respondents indicated they were NOT familiar with the First Amendment of the Constitution ("whatever THAT is!"), while others say it is "outdated."

Sixty-three percent favor requiring professors to employ “trigger warnings” to alert students to material that might be discomfiting. One-third of the students polled could not identify the First Amendment as the part of the Constitution that dealt with free speech. Thirty-five percent said that the First Amendment does not protect “hate speech,” while 30 percent of self-identified liberal students say the First Amendment is outdated. . . .

From "Survey: 49% of College Students Feel ‘Intimidated’ When Expressing Beliefs Different From Professors" by Barbara Hollingsworth, CNSNews.com 10/27/15
The vast majority (95 percent) of students surveyed said that the issue of free speech is “important” to them, and 87 percent agree that listening to those with whom they disagree has educational value.
However, despite their strong support for free speech, a majority (51 percent) of students favor on-campus speech codes even though only one in 10 believes that colleges should regulate speech even more than they do now.
More than half (52 percent) of the students surveyed think that their college or university should forbid certain people with a history of “hate speech” from speaking on campus even though the same percentage also believes that the First Amendment does not make an exception for speech that some consider “hateful”.
And nearly three-quarters of student respondents (72 percent) favor disciplinary action for “any student or faculty member on campus who uses language that is considered racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise offensive.”

From "College Students Say Campus Is Too PC, But Also Love Trigger Warnings" by Blake Neff, Reporter, Daily Caller 10/26/15
The survey also found that a whopping 63 percent of students support the use of “trigger warnings” by their professors in class. Triggers warnings are preemptive warnings given prior to some material (such as a discussion of racism) so that students can avoid being “triggered” and experiencing emotional trauma.
While a majority of respondents correctly said that the First Amendment protects hate speech just as it does other speech, a substantial 35 percent minority said otherwise, believing the First Amendment does nothing to protect hate speech. Some 21 percent of students even said the First Amendment is an “outdated” amendment that needs to be changed.
Unsurprisingly, there are differences among respondents based on their political leanings. Self-described liberals are three times as like (30 percent v. 10 percent) to describe the First Amendment as “outdated,” and 56 percent of them said their school newspaper should ban political cartoons that criticize certain religions and ethnic groups, while only 38 percent of conservatives felt the same way. Conservatives, though, are slightly more likely to support blocking speakers with a history of hate speech.

Dr. Ben Carson, currently running in second for the Republican presidential nomination, told NBC's Chuck Todd on Sunday that he supports a system under which the government would investigate allegations of "extreme bias" on college campuses.
"The way that works," Carson explained, "is you invite the students at the universities to send in their complaints. And then you investigate." He later added, "It's not a violation of the 1st Amendment, because all I'm saying is taxpayer funding should not be used for propaganda. It shouldn't be."
At the end of that part of his conversation with Todd, Carson explained why he thought this was so important.
"[Y]ou have to be able to look at things from both sides," he said. "You have to be able to evaluate things in a very clear way. And if you're just always looking at things from one point of view, I don't think you're well-educated."

Free speech has suffered a lot of setbacks in recent years. College campuses are setting up "free speech zones" that limit where students can express their opinions without the risk of offending their more thin-skinned classmates. Expressing an opinion online or telling a joke that's misinterpreted can actually get someone fired.
. . . almost any speech that anyone doesn't like can be brought for disciplinary action. Northwestern University professor Laura Kipnis learned that the hard way earlier this year when she was accused of violating the anti-discrimination law known as Title IX because she wrote an article critical of campus "paranoia."
The only way to stop the attacks on free speech is to stand up and refuse to be bullied. College campuses need to stop giving in to the most easily offended students, and organizations need to make clear that they will not stand down in face of adversity. Opinions that are merely unpopular (conservative students know this far too well) should not be shut down.

Colo. School Censors Homosexual Speech—Media Fume
When public schools ban students from speaking of their Christian faith, the media cheer, but when Twin Peaks Charter Academy of the St. Vrain Valley School District in Longmont, Colorado told valedictorian Evan Young that he couldn't speak at graduation of his Gay Pride while denouncing the homophobic school, per the overtly sexual text he submitted for pre-screening, the media pounced on the school and excoriated Principal BJ Bachmann for "outing" Young to his parents (who knew nothing of their son's "sexual orientation").

Young sent a copy of his speech to the school administrators, who returned it to him with requested changes, most of which Young said he made. But when it came to omitting his sexual orientation, Young drew the line.
“I’d told him I’m not going to remove the part where I say I’m gay, because I am. It’s important to me,” said Young.

Bishop 'Too Catholic' to Speak at Catholic College
Via petition, over 600 students, plus faculty, have called on Le Moyne College administration to dis-invite Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the leader of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, from speaking at this month's commencement ceremony citing the bishop's "homophobia" and his Catholic beliefs.

To put that in perspective, 3,500 students are enrolled at Le Moyne, so more than 20-percent of the student body is calling on the school to change the commencement speaker
The school is aware of students' concerns, but the Le Moyne president says Cardinal Dolan will be speaking at graduation.
"There's absolutely no chance that we would change our speaker moving forward. We're proud to host Cardinal Dolan and we're looking forward to hearing his message," says Dr. Linda LeMura, President of Le Moyne College. "My message to our students and faculty who have expressed concern is to give the Cardinal a chance. Listen to his message of hope and love and I think he will pleasantly surprise our audience."
Students say they will be holding a peaceful protest on graduation day.

The petition also equates opposition to Dolan with other recent protest actions on campus.
“We have walked the halls of Le Moyne for the Black Lives that Matter, we have held vigils for the Muslim students gunned down in Chapel Hill and much more,” [the petition] says. “We have always come together in hard times. Do not stop now. Stand strong, sign and keep it going.”
The petition doesn’t include any specific examples of wrongdoing by Dolan, though it does include a link to a 2013 article about sex abuse victims in the Milwaukee archdiocese calling for more open records. Dolan was Milwaukee’s archbishop from 2002 to 2009, but his involvement in the sex abuse scandal was limited to handling the uproar and aftermath rather than any alleged complicity in actual abuse.
As for the allegations of homophobia, Dolan’s position that homosexual acts are sinful and gay marriage unacceptable are in line with official Catholic doctrine.

"Overall, I do not think Cardinal Dolan represents the tenets we value at Le Moyne College," said Katherine M. Bakhuizen, a senior and president of CARE, a group promoting the acceptance of gay and lesbian students on campus. "With sexual assault becoming endemic on college campuses and marriage equality with LGBTQ+ acceptance on the forefront of history, we cannot welcome someone who does not align with our values as a Jesuit institution."
[Joe Della Posta, a college spokesman,] said the college recognizes that not everyone will be happy with the selection of Dolan.
"In selecting a commencement speaker, we consider a number of criteria, including prominence in their field, the ability to deliver a relevant message to our graduates, and the individual's understanding of our role as a Catholic, Jesuit institution," Della Posta said. "Cardinal Dolan is arguably the most influential leader within the U.S. Catholic Church, and we're confident his message will be compelling and impact a wide range of people in the audience."
"Jesus taught love and acceptance, and so does Le Moyne," [senior student Kailey] McDonald said."The Jesuits do not condemn people for the way they love. I have not seen evidence that Cardinal Dolan reflects these teachings, and I hope Le Moyne recognizes that."

Card, a Mormon and author of the celebrated science fiction novel "Ender's Game," was called out by Salon's Donna Minkowitz as a "disgustingly outspoken homophobe" after an interview in 2000. Said Card during the exchange with Minkowitz, "I find the comparison between civil rights based on race and supposed new rights being granted for what amounts to deviant behavior to be really kind of ridiculous."
In 2009, Card joined the board of the anti-gay National Organization for Marriage, a nonprofit "with a mission to protect marriage and the faith communities that sustain it." Card's status in the group is unclear today.

Russia to Outlaw Homosexual Propaganda, Kissing
The Obama administration expressed outrage at Kremlin plans to toughen laws against public displays of homosexual affection and punishment of, what the U.S. State Dept. calls, "gay rights." Russians believe the crackdown on homosexuality is necessary to curb its damaging effects on children and young adults, but American mainstream media blame a so-called homophobic Russian Orthodox Church for "legislating morality" and thus abetting the freedom-limiting, anti-human government of Vladimir Putin.

. . . lawmakers voted 388-1 for the bill, which would make it a federal crime in Russia to distribute “homosexual propaganda,” with violations punishable by fines of up to $16,000. One lawmaker abstained. The bill must be approved by the lower house two more times before being sent to the upper chamber. Similar laws have been approved by a number of regions and municipalities, including St. Petersburg, where supporters of the restriction tried unsuccessfully to use it to bring charges against the pop star Madonna.
The overwhelming vote fits with a larger pattern in recent months of the Russian government drawing closer to the Russian Orthodox Church and favoring so-called traditional values over individual liberties or behavior perceived as representing more modern, Western influences. This has included the aggressive prosecution and conviction of members of the punk band Pussy Riot for a stunt in Moscow’s main cathedral, and legislation imposing new restrictions on the Internet in the name of protecting children from pornography.

Russia decriminalized homosexuality in 1993, but homophobia remains high in the country. Authorities often ban gay rallies and parades.
Those behind the bill say minors need to be protected from “homosexual propaganda” because they are unable to evaluate the information critically.
Some lawmakers and public figures have accused gays of contributing to the fall in Russia’s already low birth rates, and have argued that they should be barred from government jobs, undergo forced medical treatment or be exiled.
According to opinion polls last year by the respected Levada Center, almost two thirds of Russians find homosexuality “morally unacceptable and worth condemning.” And about half were found to be against gay rallies and same-sex marriage, while almost a third thought homosexuality is the result of “a sickness or a psychological trauma.”

The legislation being pushed by the Kremlin and the Russian Orthodox Church would make it illegal nationwide to provide minors with information that is defined as "propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality and transgenderism." It includes a ban on holding public events that promote gay rights. St. Petersburg and a number of other Russian cities already have similar laws on their books.
Other laws that the Kremlin says are intended to protect young Russians have been hastily adopted in recent months, including some that allow banning and blocking web content and print publications that are deemed "extremist" or unfit for young audiences.
Those behind the bill say minors need to be protected from "homosexual propaganda" because they are unable to evaluate the information critically. "This propaganda goes through the mass media and public events that propagate homosexuality as normal behavior," the bill reads.
Cities started adopting anti-gay laws in 2006. Only one person has been prosecuted so far under a law specifically targeted at gays: Nikolai Alexeyev, a gay rights campaigner, was fined the equivalent of $160 after a one-man protest last summer in St. Petersburg.

The ban was submitted by deputies from the Novosibirsk Region in Siberia, who had earlier introduced similar local regulations. If approved, it would introduce heavy fines for the promotion of homosexuality among children. Those found guilty of the offence could be fined up to 5000 roubles (about $160), but the fines increase 10-fold for officials and 100-fold for companies.
The LGBT community has begun street protests against the bill in Moscow and in other Russian cities. They turned into violence several times as people who claim to be believers and defenders of traditional values attacked the gay activists.
The violence between gay activists and the people, who claim to be defenders of Orthodox Christianity, broke out again on Friday as MPs readied to hold the hearings into the bill. Over a dozen people from each side started shouting slogans “Moscow is not Sodom” and “Moscow is not Iran”, they then started smearing each other with paint and sprayed tear gas after which the police had to intervene breaking up the protest and detaining about 20 activists.

Ohio School Bans 'Jesus Homophobe' T-shirt, Gays Sue
Maverick Couch, a 16-year-old "gay student" at Waynesville High School, wanted to wear a T-shirt promoting homosexual behavior on the Day of Silence (a nationwide celebration of deviant sexuality), but after seeing it, the school administration deemed the T-shirt to be sexually inappropriate, so homosexual activists have sued the school.

-- From "Gay student sues Ohio school over right to wear T-shirt" by Lisa Cornwell, Associated Press 4/4/12
Couch, a junior at the southwestern Ohio high school, has been threatened by school officials with suspension if he wears the shirt, which bears the message “Jesus is not a homophobe,” the lawsuit says. Officials at the public school told him the shirt is “sexual in nature” and is inappropriate there, it says.
Couch said yesterday that he wants to wear the shirt at school on April 20 to show support for the Day of Silence, an annual event held nationally for students to draw attention to the silencing of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students through bullying and harassment.
Couch said yesterday that he wore the shirt, which also bears the image of a rainbow-colored fish similar to a religious symbol used by Christians, last April and was told by the principal to turn it inside out. He said he complied but was told when he tried to wear it again that he would be suspended.

Lambda Legal, a national organization advocating for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people, filed suit on Tuesday against Gebhardt and Waynesville school district on Couch's behalf. Lambda also filed a motion asking for temporary restraining order so that Couch could wear the shirt on an upcoming National Day of Silence.
On April 20, 2011, Couch was first summoned to Gebhardt's office in the middle of fifth period. At his school, which lacks any organization devoted to the gay community, he is one of few openly gay students. So, he alone was marking the day, wearing the T-shirt and a "No Hate" message written on his cheek in marker. He carried a white board so he could write messages (in lieu of talking) to communicate with teachers and classmates.

UPDATE 5/22/12: Federal judge rules gay student can wear T-shirt; School must pay $20,000

Homosexual 'Marriage' Not Enough; Next Goal
Now that same-sex 'marriage' is law in ten countries, 'homosexual rights' groups say that such legally-mandated tolerance is not adequate and are focused on the next goal:
UPDATE 6/14/13 - Poll: Gay Agenda Complete when Christians Muzzled
UPDATE 7/26/13: Senator Ted Cruz Says Gay Agenda Ends Christian Liberty
-- From "10 countries now allow same-sex marriage" posted at Washington Post, by Associated Press 3/14/11
But Human Rights Watch said in a survey released Monday that bias continues against people who want to marry people of the same gender in those 10 countries and many others.
The first same-sex marriages took place in the Netherlands on April 1, 2001. The countries that followed were Belgium, Spain, Canada, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Iceland and Argentina.

"The fact that same-sex marriage has been legalized on three continents demonstrates progress in equality," said Boris Dittrich, acting director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Rights Program at Human Rights Watch. But "legalization does not end discrimination, either by officials or other people," he added.
Human Rights Watch surveyed gay rights groups in the 10 countries with legalized marriage on their next goals.
"In most of the countries, the right of transgender people to be recognized before the law without having to undergo non-reversible sterilization is a high priority," Dittrich said, as is stopping hate violence.

From "A Decade on, Progress on Same-Sex Marriages" posted at AlterNet 3/14/11
"It is inevitable that more nations that are open to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity will follow these 10 countries," Dittrich said. "The trend to legalize same-sex marriage is unstoppable."
Many other countries have legislation that recognizes same-sex relationships in the form of civil unions or registered partnerships. In these cases, people in same-sex relationships have many of the same rights as married couples. However, civil marriage in these countries is reserved for different sex couples and not open to same-sex couples.
A survey by Human Rights Watch of LGBT rights groups in the 10 countries where same-sex marriage is legal of what they hope to achieve over the next five to ten years found varied priorities but some common ground. . . .

Government Keeps List of 'Homophobic Kids'
President Obama having enacted the Hate Crimes law, can now see the American future in the United Kingdom where 30,000 students per year, including toddlers, are being permanently branded as bigots based on playground squabbles.
Solution: A £35,000 grant will enable public schools to teach "gay issues" in core curricula, with a gala launch celebrating LGBT History Month.
-- From "Thousands of schoolchildren branded 'racist' and 'homophobic' during playground squabbles" by Andrew Hough, London Telegraph 1/18/11
Teachers logged more than 10,000 confrontations involving primary school students making racist insults or derogatory comments about homosexuals in 12 months.
A further 20,000 “hate crimes” were recorded against secondary school students such as using the phrases “white trash” or “gaylord” during playground squabbles.
And nursery school staff reported several dozen such bullying incidents involving young children despite most not understanding the meaning of what they were saying.
After the introduction of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, which put public bodies under a duty to eliminate discrimination, schools were told they had to monitor the impact of their policies on the educational attainment of pupils of different races.

The school can also keep the pupil’s name and ‘offence’ on file. The record can be passed from primaries to secondaries or when a pupil moves between schools at the request of the new head.
And if schools are asked for a pupil reference by a future employer or a university, the record could be used as the basis for it, meaning the pettiest of incidents has the potential to blight a child for life.
In the majority of cases, the ‘racist’ spats involved mere name-calling.
At one primary, teachers filled out an incident form after three Year Four pupils, aged eight or nine, told a classmate he was ‘gay’ and could not play with them.

Children as young as four are to be taught about homosexuality in maths, geography, science and English lessons.
In a Government-backed drive to ‘celebrate the gay community’, lesson plans for pupils have been drawn-up to raise awareness about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual issues.
And youngsters aged four will be exposed to images of same-sex couples and books such as ‘And Tango Makes Three’ which is about two male penguins raising a chick, inspired by events at New York’s Central Park Zoo.
David Watkins, a teacher involved in the scheme, said: ‘when you have a maths problem, why does it have to involve a straight family or a boyfriend and girlfriend? Why not two boys or two girls?

Obama Energy Dept. Boots Conservative Scientist over Homophobia
The Energy Department removed a St. Louis scientist from a select group picked by the Obama administration to pursue a solution to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico because of writings on his website about homosexuality and race relations.
-- From "Scientist booted off oil panel over writing" by Combined Dispatches, posted at Washington Times 5/20/10
Washington University physics professor Jonathan Katz was one of five top scientists chosen by the Department of Energy and attended meetings in Houston last week.
Mr. Katz is a leading scientist, but his website postings often touch on social issues. Some of those writings include defenses of "homophobia" and doubts about the value of racial preferences and similar diversity efforts.
Energy Secretary Steven Chu was not aware of Mr. Katz's writings before selecting him for the panel, spokeswoman Stephanie Mueller told the Associated Press. It was not immediately clear how the department became aware of the writings.
"Dr. Chu has spoken with dozens of scientists and engineers as part of his work to help find solutions to stop the oil spill," a statement from the Energy Department said. "Some of Professor Katz's controversial writings have become a distraction from the critical work of addressing the oil spill. Professor Katz will no longer be involved in the Department's efforts."

'Hate Crimes' Law Regulates God (LOL)
Americans concerned with the Obama 'hate crimes' law observe Canadian government outlawing belief that homosexual behavior opposes God's Word

On December 11, 2009, the Minister of Justice, Attorney General of Québec and minister responsible for the fight against homophobia, Kathleen Weil, released the first-ever Québec policy against homophobia. “The policy released this morning shows, once again, that Québec society is a leader in the field of sexual minority rights,” stated the Minister.
The main objective of the policy – overview of the policy – is to improve the situation of sexual minorities in Québec and allow them to attain social equality.

From "Government policy now targeting 'homophobia'" by Drew Zahn © 2010 WorldNetDaily 1/17/10
The policy, released last month by Quebec's Minister of Justice and Attorney General Kathleen Weil, assigns the government the task of eliminating all forms of "homophobia" and "heterosexism" – including the belief that homosexuality is immoral – from society as a whole.
The text and specifics of the policy are steeped in vague bureaucratic language about "coordination" and "synergy," but the goal is spelled out clearly: to enlist the government to normalize homosexuality in society and to quell common criticisms levied against "sexual minorities," a term the policy uses to inclusively describe "lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals and transgenders."
"An inclusive society such as ours must take the necessary steps to combat homophobic attitudes and behavior patterns and move towards full acceptance of sexual diversity," states the Premier of Quebec Jean Charest in a letter that serves as the policy's introduction. "The policy sets out the government's goal of removing all the obstacles to full recognition of the social equality of the sexual minorities, at all levels of society."
The policy further defines the heterosexism that must be stomped out as "affirmation of heterosexuality as a social norm or the highest form of sexual orientation."
Furthermore, the policy laments, "It is still possible to hear people say that homosexuality is an illness, morally wrong or a form of deviant behavior, and that people choose their sexual orientation. These beliefs, often instilled in the past, tend to marginalize sexual minority groups and prevent full recognition of their social equality."
Such "prejudice," the policy affirms, must be combated.
And while the word "church" is never explicitly mentioned in the policy, it does declare it important to publicize the most "insidious" forms of homophobia with a plan to "target the various locations in which homophobic attitudes and behavior patterns, as well as heterosexist stereotypes, are found."
The policy also warns, "It will be necessary to deal with the heterosexist values on which some institutional practices are founded."

Texas Teachers Required to Indoctrinate Students
"How do we create a better world? As educators, we must help people to become committed to social change."
- Texas Region 10 mandated studies for the public school educators' program.
-- From "Texas teachers warned against being 'heterosexist'" by Bob Unruh © 2009 WorldNetDaily 12/31/09
Candidates for certification to teach in public schools in Texas are being told that they will be held accountable for any "heterosexist" leanings and must become agents working to change society, according to one candidate who was alarmed by the demands.
The applicant, who requested anonymity for fear of repercussions, told WND part of the teachings on multiculturalism required him to read several online postings about the issue inside the education industry.
One warns that "teachers and administrators must be held accountable for practices deemed to be racist, sexist, heterosexist, classist, or in any other way discriminatory." And a second warned that educators must not define education as the basic skills.
But spokeswoman Debbie Ratcliffe at the Texas Education Agency said the state rules require teacher preparation programs to cover 17 curriculum topics, but not multiculturalism.
"While we establish the broad rules that are to be followed, we do not write or approve a training program's curriculum," she said.
She said the articles, if part of the program, were chosen at the region level.
One of the articles was on the EdChange Multicultural Pavilion and discussed defining "multicultural education."
There it states that there are several focuses for such programs, including those that insist "on education change as part of a larger societal transformation in which we more closely explore and criticize the oppressive foundations of society and how education serves to maintain the status quo – foundations such as white supremacy, capitalism, global socioeconomic situations, and exploitation."
The traditional teaching approaches, it continued, "must be deconstructed to examine how they are contributing to and supporting institutional systems of oppression."
A similar issue of demanding a specific social perspective arose recently at the University of Minnesota.

UK-funded Adoption Agency Calls Christians 'Retarded Homophobes'
The British Association for Adoption and Fostering told would-be gay adopters to not worry about society - 'any critics are retarded homophobes' . . . [the] attack was published in a BAAF guide to adoption for homosexual couples.
-- From "Critics of gay parenting are branded 'retarded homophobes'" by Steve Doughty, UK Daily Mail 5/14/09
Its insulting description angered senior MPs and former Cabinet Ministers, Roman Catholic and Church of England leaders.
It also offended disability campaigners, who have been trying to discourage the use of the word 'retarded' for years. Whitehall has banned the word for civil servants.
Author Patricia Morgan, who has published a study of gay adoption, said: "It is disgraceful that they do not wish to discuss the pros and cons of gay adoption. They just go in for abuse. They do not appear interested in evidence about the outcomes for children. And it is a disgusting phrase to use."

White House Equates Homophobia in Military to Racism
"Changing the U.S. military's 'don't ask, don't tell' policy for gay troops . . . Defense Secretary Robert Gates . . . noted it took five years for the U.S. military to racially integrate during the Truman administration."
UPDATE 5/11/09: White House conferencing with Pentagon about change
-- From "Defense secretary cautious on lifting 'don't ask, don't tell' policy on gays in military" Lara Jakes, Associated Press 4/16/09
Speaking at the Army War College, Gates said he and President Barack Obama were discussing the policy and whether to change it. Gates said he was not yet taking a position about whether gay troops should be open about their sexuality, which could lead to their discharge under the current rules.
"If we do it, it's imperative that we do it right and very carefully," Gates told reporters later on a military jet to Newport, R.I., where he was to speak Friday at the Navy's war college.
Obama committed during the 2008 presidential campaign to moving to end the Clinton administration-era policy that was enacted as a compromise between openly gay people serving in the armed forces and those opposed to gays in uniform.

'Traditional Black Churches' Criticized as Homophobic by Obama
-- From "Obama Praised Wright, Criticized Traditional Black Churches on Homosexuality" by Penny Starr, CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer 5/29/08
(CNSNews.com) - In an Apr. 10 interview with The Advocate magazine, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said "homophobic" messages are coming from the pulpits of black churches because blacks attend church more regularly than other people and interpret the Bible more traditionally. In the same interview, Obama praised the controversial Rev. Jeremiah Wright, his former pastor and long-time spiritual adviser, for being on the right side of the homosexual debate.
"There's plenty of homophobia to go around, but you have a unique perspective into the African-American community," Kerry Eleveld, news editor of The Advocate, a homosexual publication, said to Obama, during the interview.
"I don't think it's worse than in the white community," Obama replied. "I think that the difference has to do with the fact that the African-American community is more churched and most African-American churches are still fairly traditional in their interpretations of Scripture."
"And so from the pulpit or in sermons you still hear homophobic attitudes expressed," said Obama. "And since African-American ministers are often the most prominent figures in the African-American community, those attitudes get magnified or amplified a little bit more than in other communities."
"I mean, ironically, my biggest ... the biggest political news surrounding me over the last three weeks has been Reverend Wright, who offended a whole huge constituency with some of his statements but has been very good on gay and lesbian issues," Obama said. "I mean he's one of the leaders in the African-American community of embracing, speaking out against homophobia, and talking about the importance of AIDS."
In an essay entitled "What do I tell my Children?" that was published in the August 2007 issue of Trinity United Church of Christ's Trumpet Magazine, Wright criticized "black evangelism."
"My grandson, Jeremiah, has already run head-on into the contradiction called Christianity in his twenty-one years of life," Wright wrote. "He has seen the racism of Christianity that has produced slave castles and white supremacy. He has also seen the ignorance calling itself 'Black Evangelism' which produces a religion of hatred, gay bashing and heterosexism."

Is Hating "Haters" Hateful?
After a while, I realized that the only way I could get them to stop calling me a homophobe was to start agreeing with them about everything
From "Is Hating “Haters” Hateful?" by Scott Lively, posted 10/27/07 at Defend the Family
Hate has a pretty bad name in the world today. No one wants to be called a hater, especially Christians, which is probably why we get accused of it all the time by our opponents. Homosexuals are especially fond of calling people haters. They even invented the word homophobia, which means hate and fear of homosexuals, envisaged as a mental illness (a phobia is an anxiety disorder).
I hate being called a homophobe. It has such an ugly connotation. Its especially unpleasant because, as a Christian, I’m supposed to have a reputation for loving people, not hating them. So I’ve worked really hard over the years to try to get the homosexuals to stop calling me a homophobe. I’ve pointed out the difference between hating people and hating their behavior (loving the sinner but hating the sin). They hated that. Then I tried “walking my talk” by taking an ex-”gay” man who was dying of AIDS into my family. My wife and I and our children loved and cared for him during the last year of his life. They hated that even more.
Then I began asking for guidance from homosexuals themselves: “Tell me, where is the line between homophobia and acceptable opposition to homosexuality?” I asked. “What if I just agree with the Bible that homosexuality is a sin no worse than any other sex outside of marriage?” “No, that‘s homophobic,” they replied. “Suppose I talk only about the proven medical hazards of gay sex and try to discourage people from hurting themselves?“ “No, you can’t do that,” they said. “How about if I say that homosexuals have the option to change if they choose?” “Ridiculous” they answered. “Maybe I could just be completely positive, say nothing about homosexuality, and focus only on promoting the natural family and traditional marriage?” “That’s really hateful,” they replied.
After a while, I realized that the only way I could get them to stop calling me a homophobe was to start agreeing with them about everything. But here’s my dilemma: I honestly believe the Bible which says that homosexuality is wrong and harmful and that all sex belongs within marriage. I’ve also read the professional studies and know that “gay” sex hurts people because it goes against the design of their bodies. And I’m friends with a number of former homosexuals who are now married and living heterosexual lives. Do I have to give up my religion? Ignore scientific facts? Betray my friends? Is that the only way to avoid being called a hater and a homophobe?
