Teaching Christians Muslim Dress: Illinois School

The principal at Vernon Hills High School in suburban Chicago said he admires Muslim students so much that he supports the Muslim Student Association (MSA) effort to dress non-Muslim school girls in the garb familiar to the oppressed female populations of Islamic cultures.
"I think this is an opportunity for our kids to embrace the Muslim community within the school."

The "Walk a Mile in Her Hijab" event Wednesday, hosted by the 10-member organization, was designed to allow non-Muslim female students the opportunity to wear the head covering and gain a better understanding of the Muslim faith. "This event is to hopefully denounce negative stereotypes," [MSA president Yasmeen] Abdallah said.

Six members of the [MSA] group spent the morning placing hijabs on 17 non-Muslim girls who wanted to participate in the project. They also talked about the meaning of the hijab and facets of the Muslim religion to students who approached them.

Teachers and students at the school were encouraged to ask questions about the hijab when they came across a student wearing one.

Abdallah said the event was a good experience, one she hopes will become an annual event.

Celebrate Islam Day Canceled at Ohio School

Administrators at Mason High School in suburban Cincinnati, Ohio collaborated with the Muslim Student Association to create The Covered Girl Challenge — a day when all girls would wear a hijab like Muslim women.  However when the school's announcement was publicized, parents and other taxpayers educated the school on the First Amendment, causing Principal Mindy McCarty-Stewart to cancel the event.
“I do not recall ever getting an email announcing a Christian Cross Wearing day or a booth for information about the Christian persecution from Islamic terrorists. What happen to the argument of the separation of church and state? My belief is wearing these hijabs represents the oppression of women and Sharia law.”

"The Covered Girl Challenge" at Mason High School was intended to combat stereotypes students may face when wearing head coverings.

But Principal Mindy McCarty-Stewart says the school received numerous strong messages as word of the event spread, forcing her to reconsider the event's ability to meet its goals. She says the event sponsored by a Muslim student group should not have been promoted by the school's Student Activities Department.

The event is held on college campuses and other high schools.

The event was supposed to take place at the 830-student, high-performing school on Thursday, but has been canceled.. . .Principal Mindy McCarty-Stewart issued an apology letter the same day after receiving numerous protests. She wrote in part:
. . . Mason High School is committed to being an inclusive and safe environment for all students – regardless of race or religion. The students sponsoring the event only want to combat stereotypes that they face when wearing head coverings. Mason City Schools’ diversity is a source of pride. I am committed to continuing to celebrate all of our cultural richness. . . .

The event isn't unique to Mason High; it's held on college campuses and sometimes at high schools, said Karen Dabdoub, Executive Director of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations [CAIR].

Mariam [a Muslim girl], one of the students who was helping organize the event, said her friends were excited to see what it would be like to wear a headscarf.

Mason and nearby West Chester have significant Muslim communities; school spokeswoman Tracey Carson said Mason High has several groups with religious affiliations.

"They don't leave their faith at the door," Carson said. "We want students to take leadership roles and educate their community."

Another effort at a taxpayer-funded American high school to persuade female students — but only female students — to wear Muslim headscarves has failed disastrously.

. . . critics noted that the Covered Girl Challenge amounts to an endorsement of Islam [violating the First Amendment].

Female students who wanted to participate were supposed to have their parents fill out a permission slip and return it to the high school office or “Mrs. Jenkin’s room in Z223.”

The [hijab] challenge was part of an event planned by the student organization, including information tables during the school day and a discussion after school.

The announcement prompted responses in the district and beyond, some questioning the event, including on Facebook and the website jihadwatch.org.

On Thursday, jihadwatch.org posted a story headlined, “Victory! Mason High school principal cancels hijab event, apologizes.”

“On this Facebook thread, people are whining about this being a victory for ‘bigotry and intolerance,’ but of its is no such thing. In reality, it is a victory for fairness in education,” the story said.

Yasmeen Allen is an Iraqi native with two teenagers at Mason High. Allen's daughter wears a hijab to mosque worship but not to school, Allen said, adding that the family is "really upset that the school is succumbing to outside pressure of racism and bigotry toward people who are different from them."

Muslim students "were robbed of an opportunity" to support their religion and counter some of the negativity it faces around the world, she said.

This is not the first Muslim-themed controversy to hit the Mason school community. About a decade ago, former school board candidate Sharon Poe and then-board member Jennifer Miller publicly blasted school officials for allowing Muslim students to have a separate lunch hour for fasting during Ramadan, which occurs during the ninth month of the Muslim calendar.

That is a holiday practice still continued at Mason schools. The area, however, is open to any student, regardless of faith, Carson said.

Teaching Girls to Wear Muslim Hijab: Calif. School

Although Principal Tom Rutten encouraged a Muslim student to organize 'Hijab Day' to teach non-Muslim school girls in suburban Sacramento, California how to properly dress as a Muslim, the school is now denying any involvement in the all-day project of the senior student who was an intern for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

[The unnamed Muslim student explained:]
“At a time when anti-Muslim sentiment is growing, I wanted to let my classmates and teachers know about the challenges that young Muslim women face when they put on a headscarf. It is unfortunate that a small effort to promote mutual understanding would provoke such a hate-filled and irrational response.

“NP3 Hijab Day was part of my Senior Project, meant to bring awareness to my campus about the misconceptions surrounding Islam, particularly those surrounding the headscarf. I invited a [CAIR] speaker to talk to faculty about addressing Islamophobia in the classroom and the challenges in the Muslim world, and they appreciated the open and frank discussion.”
Rutten said the campus has many student organized cultural days, as a way to teach and understand diversity.

Tennessee School Visits Mosque, No Time for Church

After Sumner County, Tennessee parents adamantly complained, the new Hendersonville High School policy forbids any field trips, of any kind, to religious sites.  As part of a World Studies class, students were taken to the Islamic Center of Nashville and given Korans.  Students who refused an alternate indoctrination lesson were given a "zero grade."

. . . parents were outraged that the trip did not include stops at a Christian church or a Jewish synagogue for a better understanding of each religion.

Following the backlash, Sumner County Schools spokesman Jeremy Johnson released a statement which said, in part, "After receiving a parent complaint regarding field trip locations, our district has reviewed the practice and decided to eliminate field trips to religious venues from this class, as it does not provide equal representation to all the religions studied in the course unit."

It continued, "This decision was made due to the fact that equal representation in regards to field trips for all religions studied in the course is not feasible. Per our district policy, the student who requested to not participate in the field trip was given a suitable alternative assignment that was agreed upon by both the teacher and parent."

“If you can’t go to all five [local religious sites], why are you going to any?” asked parent Mike Conner. “We sent the principal an email and voiced our concerns. She sent back a reply and told us they could not afford to go to all five.”

Children were given punch and cookies at the mosque where they listened to readings from the Koran, Conner said. They were also given copies of the Islamic holy book – which some students took and others declined.

During their visit to the Hindu temple, students engaged in meditation.

“Our kids are being indoctrinated and this is being shoved in their face,” Conner told Fox News. “It tells me they are pushing other religions and they want Christianity to take a back seat. They want our children to be tolerant of everything except Christianity.”

Conner told Fox News his 14-year-old stepdaughter Jessica decided not to attend the trip. So her teachers instructed her to write a paper comparing and contrasting the Christian, Hindu and Islamic faiths. That’s when his daughter noticed something strange.

“There was one page on the sayings of Jesus, two-thirds of a page on the sayings of Gandhi, and five pages on Muhammed,” Conner said.

Lesbianism Taught at Middle School as Anti-Bullying

Parents at Linden Avenue Middle School of the Red Hook (NY) Central School District are fuming over not being notified in advance that Bard College students with “extensive training” would be teaching their young children about deviant sex and “gender identity,” including forcing girls to kiss each other, all under the guise of a so-called anti-bullying workshop.

At a subsequent meeting with parents, principal Dr. Katie Zahedi claimed the students weren't taught anything that they didn't already know, but said the workshop was necessary because “we do have to protect sexual orientation.”

The school began the program this year in an effort to comply with the 2012 state law called the Dignity for All Students Act. Whether or not this new law, meant to protect students from bullying, requires programs like the one given in Red Hook was the subject of some debate at the meeting.

In the girls class, one parent wrote in a Facebook forum for Red Hook parents, “… they had 2 Bard students come in to talk to just the girls. They [proceeded] to tell them that they can start having sex at their age and there is nothing anyone can do about it, not even their parents.”

In the boys’ class, another parent whose son attended the boys workshop wrote, “Questions were asked about what constitutes girls as sluts, such as what they wear or how many boys they sleep with.”

Part of the program’s purpose, according to LAMS Guidance Counselor Ryan Carney, was to confront gender stereotypes such as “guys never ask for directions,” and for the boys, to tell them “they really can express emotion.”

One of the most contentious issues of the meeting was a page of specific definitions of LGBTQ [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning] that was handed out to the students. One parent commented that she didn’t even know the meaning of “pansexual.” Another pointed out that including the name of the organization ALLY in the title could mean that the school district had an agenda.

Paul Finch, superintendent of the Red Hook Central School District, told the Journal that the workshop focused on improving culture, relationships, communication and self-perceptions. These are issues schools are obligated to address under New York’s Dignity for All Students Act, he noted. Future workshops of a similar nature “may require more notification to parents,” he said.

Bard College spokesman Mark Primoff said the students were volunteers who were invited by the middle school to give a workshop on communication.

Effective in July, the Dignity for All Students Act represents the state’s effort to create a safe and supportive environment, free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment and bullying.

“They also picked two girls to stand in front of the class and pretend they were lesbians on a date,” Coons said.

“I was absolutely furious – really furious,” said the parent of a 13-year-old who asked not to be identified. “They were teaching the boys how to decipher if a girl is a slut.”

The parent told Fox News that boys were also instructed to always have a condom in their wallet.

Notre Dame Blesses Homosexual Student Organization

Click here for local news report: WSBT-TV2 South Bend
Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Catholic Diocese is very supportive of the University of Notre Dame's new effort to “expand and enhance the support and services for students who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning (GLBTQ),” after years of demands from students for recognition of a gay-straight student alliance club to advocate for "gay rights" in opposition to Church doctrine.

-- From "Notre Dame makes changes in support, service for GLBTQ students" by Margaret Fosmoe, South Bend Tribune 12/5/12

"This is very good news," said Alex Coccia, co-president of the Progressive Student Alliance, the student activists' group that has been leading the effort. "The university is recognizing a student organization. It's going to provide the peer-to-peer support that is needed."

The changes announced are part of a comprehensive pastoral plan that includes an array of initiatives based on Notre Dame's Catholic mission, the university announced. The plan, titled "Beloved Friends and Allies: A Pastoral Plan for the Support and Holistic Development of GLBTQ and Heterosexual Students at the University of Notre Dame," was developed by the university's Student Affairs staff. The university announcement states the plan follows a study of Catholic doctrine and teaching, listening sessions with students, and an examination of student clubs and structures at other Catholic universities.

Karl Abad, an openly gay Notre Dame senior . . . [said] "Students here are ready for a change, but the climate didn't encourage open discussion."

Abad said he was involved in the talks in recent months with administrators that led to approval for the student organization. He praised the efforts of Erin Hoffmann Harding, who in August became Notre Dame's vice president for student affairs, for moving the discussions forward. "Throughout this process, she's been in constant dialogue with other administrators and knows what students need," he said.

From "'The next step'" by John Cameron, The (Notre Dame) Observer 12/5/12

Though this is a historic decision in Notre Dame’s efforts to better serve a diverse student body, University President Fr. John Jenkins said the plan for the unnamed student organization is a natural progression of previous initiatives.

“In the 1990s, as I said, we created the Standing Committee [on Gay and Lesbian Student Needs]. In 2006, that was changed to the Core Council [for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Questioning Students], and various initiatives were undertaken in conjunction with those efforts,” he said. “I see this as the next step to be more effective.”

“The comprehensiveness of this not only being about the organization is a very important element to the entire thing because of the education, because of the awareness, because of the support and interaction with other University offices, we think this is a plan that we believe and hope will be much more than about one organization,” [Erin Hoffmann Harding] said.

While Jenkins said expanding the diversity at Notre Dame is part of the administration’s duties, he said the responsibility does not end at the steps of the Main Building.

“Diversity isn’t just about having a bunch of different people all in the same place. It really is about building a community,” he said.

From "Bishop Rhoades hopeful about Notre Dame's new student organization" posted at Catholic News Agency 12/7/12

Bishop Rhoades wrote that with the plan, Notre Dame “clearly affirms its fidelity to Catholic Church teaching on human sexuality” and affirms “the teachings of the Church on the commandment and vocation of love, the virtue of chastity and its expression in friendship, the importance of self-mastery, and the call to holiness.”

The foundations section of the plan cites the need to pursue “human solidarity and the common good” and says that “all must learn to govern their passions in disciplined ways on the road to lasting freedom.”

Bishop Rhoades reflected that the plan “affirms Catholic teaching that men and women who have homosexual tendencies 'must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity.'”

From "Notre Dame introduces gay-straight allies group" by Cardinal Newman Society 12/7/12

“I think if people look carefully at what we’re doing and really, in a thoughtful way, evaluate it, I think thoughtful people will see that this makes sense,” reportedly said Fr. Jenkins. “It makes sense for a Catholic university like Notre Dame to provide such structures to serve their students effectively.”

. . . although the plan describes the student organization as acting consistent with Catholic teaching, Fr. Jenkins seemed to indicate some doubt about how closely it will be regulated . . .

Moreover, at least one Vatican official has expressed reservations about a Catholic college organizing any student activity centered on homosexuality. In 1992 Cardinal Pio Laghi, then-Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education, opposed a homosexual club at Seattle University: “At a Catholic university, support can be given only to Catholic teaching on homosexuality and Catholic pastoral practice to help homosexual persons morally, ascetically, and spiritually…The university’s responsibilities towards homosexual persons, doctrinally and pastorally, should find their expression in courses in Catholic theology.”

From "Catholic Notre Dame announces services for gay students" by Moni Basu, CNN 12/7/12

[Lesbian student Mia] Lillis said the actions were huge for a school that has not been welcoming to gay students and has often found itself atop national lists of gay-unfriendly schools. Too bad, she said, because she found the students to be accepting of her. But they had not been afforded the channels to vocalize their thoughts. The climate was one of silence on gay issues.

[Student] Alex Coccia, who helped spearhead the student effort to change things at Notre Dame, said a new environment will be especially a big deal for questioning students.

[However,] The Sycamore Trust, which says its goal is to protect the Catholic identity of Notre Dame, expressed concern on its website, saying the university's support of a gay club "would give grave scandal damaging to the church, to the university, to students, and to other Catholic institutions and would establish a potential source of serious mischief within the school."

It went on to say, "Surely it is predictable that a group whose organizing principle is same-sex attraction is likely to be a forum, overt or covert, for opposition to the Church’s teachings about homosexuality. It may also become an instrumentality in the student 'hookup' culture."

From "Majority of Catholic colleges host pro-homosexual groups: survey" by Johanna Dasteel, LifeSiteNews.com 11/20/12

A survey by TFP Student Action has found pro-homosexual student clubs at 111 out of the 211 schools listed by the most comprehensive reference material available, “Ganley’s Catholic Schools in America,” published by Fisher Publishing Company.  TFP’s comprehensive list with corresponding clubs includes links to school websites and club descriptions.

TFP claims that many of the mentioned clubs act as platforms of Catholic dissent, advancing the idea of same-sex “marriage”, the acceptance of homosexual lifestyles, gender confusion, and the rejection of Catholic teaching.

In a press release announcing their survey, TFP Student Action quoted from a 2008 address of Pope Benedict XVI to Catholic educators at the Catholic University of America.

“Teachers and administrators, whether in universities or schools, have the duty and privilege to ensure that students receive instruction in Catholic doctrine and practice,” said the pope. “This requires that public witness to the way of Christ, as found in the Gospel and upheld by the Church’s Magisterium, shapes all aspects of an institution’s life, both inside and outside the classroom. Divergence from this vision weakens Catholic identity and, far from advancing freedom, inevitably leads to confusion, whether moral, intellectual or spiritual.”

Middle School Students Taught Homosexual Foreplay

Administrators and teachers at the middle school in Gorham, Maine demonstrated either their utter ignorance or their Gay Agenda advocacy when they allowed children as young as eleven to be instructed in homosexual sex acts by a gay advocacy organization (PRYSM) that they invited to the school. The principal apologized to parents, and claimed the teachers where caught off guard by the homosexual presenters.

"There is no excuse for what happened. It happened, and it happened quickly in response to an honest student question. The results of which we are all very aware. We will be more vigilant in the future to make sure this does not happen again, but the idea of Diversity Day program is still very important to us as a Middle School."

Most reports of the controversial statements say the presenters spoke about homosexual foreplay in response to a question by a student. Some, however, say the discussion was centered on the topic of safe sex practices for homosexuals and it was the presenters who initiated the talk.

“I’m against the Diversity Day altogether,” he said. “I don’t think that there needs to be any kind of homosexual activists speaking to the students. I don’t think that’s part of education. I think that’s part of indoctrination. But, I also find it disturbing that it went into a sexually explicit nature. … This is way over the line.”

Hiltz is a father of four boys, and also works as a substitute teacher. While he and his wife homeschool their children, he states that if his children were put in such a situation, he would remove those in authority that promoted ‘Diversity Day’ in the first place.

Univ. Suspends Christian for Defending Marriage

T. Alan Hurwitz, president of Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. has placed Dr. Angela McCaskill, Chief Diversity Officer on paid leave because she was one of over 100,000 citizens who signed the petition to put the new same-sex marriage law to a vote in Maryland.
“McCaskill has worked at Gallaudet University for 23 years in various capacities… She was also the first deaf African American female to earn a Ph.D. from Gallaudet University.”

McCaskill’s signature on the petition was disclosed in July by the [gay newspaper,] Washington Blade. She did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

From "Angela McCaskill placed on administrative leave from Gallaudet" by Mike Conneen, WJLA-TV7 (D.C.) 10/10/12

As first reported in the blog Planet DeafQueer, “a Gallaudet faculty member, who at this time wishes to remain anonymous, noticed Dr. McCaskill’s name, address and signature on the anti-gay marriage petition (published by the Washington Blade) and inquired about it. When confronted by the faculty member, Dr. McCaskill confirmed that she had in fact signed the petition and explained that she had done so while at church, after her preacher had preached against gay marriage. As she was leaving, her husband pointed to the petition and she signed it without giving it further thought.”

After learning of McCaskill’s participation, an official complaint was reportedly filed with the University last week by the anonymous faculty member.

On the University website, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion says it’s mission is “to promote an academically enriching and supportive climate that allows all the diverse members of its community to thrive and succeed. The Office for Diversity and Inclusion will achieve its mission by collaborating with units on campus to intentionally design a comprehensive, university-wide approach to diversity; facilitate equity, access, social justice and inclusion; and, empower students, faculty, and staff to build a diverse and inclusive campus community.”

From "Gallaudet official suspended for signing anti-same-sex marriage petition" by Annie Linskey, Baltimore Sun 10/10/12

Her suspension fits neatly into a narrative that opponents of same-sex marriage are pushing: Approving gay marriage in Maryland will have unintended consequences, and opposition to it in the public square will not be tolerated.

"This is only the latest in a long list of attacks on individuals who express support for marriage as a union between one man and one woman," said Derek McCoy, executive director of the Maryland Marriage Alliance, which is opposing the same-sex marriage law. "If such attacks can be made before same-sex marriage is law, how can homosexual activists in good faith say that religious liberties will not be attacked if Question 6 passes?"

From "Gallaudet University Chief Diversity Officer Suspended for Signing Gay Marriage Referendum Petition" by Molly Greenberg, InTheCapital 10/11/12

BuzzFeed reported on the issue . . .

According to UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh, Hurwitz act of putting McCaskill on paid administrative leave because she had “participated in a legislative initiative” could be perceived as a criminal violation. D.C. Code says that “[a]ny person who … by threats or intimidation, interferes with, or attempts to interfere with, the right of any qualified registered elector to sign or not to sign any initiative, referendum, or recall petition,” may be considered for criminal violation. This violation could equate to a $10,000 fine as well as a year in prison.

While the issue is with a referendum circulating around a Maryland law where D.C. code does not rule, Volokh attests that it could “indirectly apply” to McCaskill’s leave if she decides to pursue a civil law suit for money or reinstatement. “There might still be a civil wrongful-discharge-in-violation-of-public-policy tort claim … on the theory that it’s against public policy for employers to interfere with employees’ political choices, whether Maryland or D.C,” he said.

From "University Draws Fire After Placing Official on Leave for Signing Marriage Petition" by Lillian Kwon, Christian Post Reporter 10/11/12

Shocked by the university's decision, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins argued that a person should "no more be punished for signing a petition than they should be for voting."

"This is a basic citizen's right to participation in our democratic process. Gallaudet University claims to believe in diversity but clearly their definition of diversity doesn't allow for dissent when it comes to marriage," he stated.

"Until a few years ago, a decision punishing an employee for engaging in the democratic process would have been jaw-dropping. However, Gallaudet University's discriminatory action reflects the troubling trend of intimidation and bullying tactics against those who uphold marriage as the union of one man and one woman."

Episcopal Church Blesses Deviant Sexual Behavior

In a move to fulfill the Bible prophecy that churches will deny Christ in the last days, the ECUSA bishops have approved same-sex marriage liturgy and accepted cross-dressing and sexual mutilation as "gender expression" of the priesthood.
"No one shall be denied rights, status or access to an equal place in the life, worship, and governance of this Church because of . . . sexual orientation, gender identity and expression . . ."

At the Episcopal General Convention in Indianapolis, the House of Bishops voted 111-41, with three abstentions, to authorize a provisional rite for same-sex unions for the next three years. The liturgy next goes to convention's deputies for their authorization.

In a separate vote Monday, the full convention approved new anti-discrimination language for transgendered clergy candidates and church members.

While critics of the different measures registered their opposition during the convention debate, many conceded ahead of the vote that they were in the minority.

"I believe it will put us, put the Episcopal Church, out of the Christian mainstream," said Bishop Edward Little of the Diocese of Northern Indiana.

If the proposal is approved, the Episcopal Church would become the largest U.S. denomination to approve a ceremony blessing same-sex unions.

The United Church of Christ endorsed same-sex marriage in 2005. The Presbyterian and Methodist churches rejected similar measures at their conferences this summer.

During Monday's debate, Bishop Nathan Baxter of Central Pennsylvania said the policy would allow the church to focus on inclusion while respecting theological differences within the church, according to the Episcopal News Service.

The Episcopal Church is the 14th-largest denomination in the United States with nearly 2 million adherents, according to the National Council of Churches.

The United Church of Christ, a mainstream Protestant denomination with about a million members, has gone further so far than any other U.S. church, voting in 2005 to support same sex marriage.

On Friday, the Presbyterian Church, the 10th-ranked U.S. denomination, narrowly rejected a proposal to redefine marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

The decision by the bishops is the latest in a string of victories for gay-rights advocates in the United States.

Some Episcopal dioceses already ordain transgender priests or elect transgender lay people to positions of leadership. However, advocates for the transgendered say it's important to explicitly state acceptance as the churchwide policy.

From "Episcopal Church Clears Way for Transgender Ordination" by Lillian Kwon, Christian Post Reporter 7/9/12

Sarah Hey of StandFirminFaith.com, which supports traditional Anglicanism in America, blasted the adoption of the measure as it promotes transgenderism or cross dressing as "good and healthy."

"It has been clear for some years now that the people leading us at the national level-90% of bishops, lay and clergy deputies to General Convention, and those serving on national commissions and committees-are not competent, healthy, or ordered in their theology or foundational worldview," Hey said in a statement before the legislation was approved Monday.

"Those men with perfectly good xy chromosomes but who imagine that they are really women, and then undergo surgery and take hormones in order to further foster their beliefs or who simply cross-dress or otherwise 'differ from majority societal gender norms' cannot be 'not considered' [as priests] because of that disorder in gender identity."

The Episcopal Church's liberal direction on Scripture, particularly homosexuality, has prompted thousands to leave and form their own group (Anglican Church in North America). It has also forced Anglicans in the Global South to reconsider their communion with the U.S. body.

Gay-friendly Catholic School Criticized by Lesbian

Once again demonstrating that the goal of the Gay Agenda is destruction of the Church, when an Ontario Catholic school distributed an anti-bullying pamphlet encouraging tolerance of homosexual behavior, a lesbian parent of one student started a ground-swell movement to force the school toward full acceptance and glorification of homosexuality.

Parents at a Catholic School in Bowmanville are up in arms after a pamphlet that was meant to promote equality among different races and sexual orientations is being criticized as doing the opposite.

The pamphlet titled “The Colour of Equity,” was sent to teachers by the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board, in an effort to stop bullying and provide teachers with ways to promote equality in the classroom.

Some members of the community though are criticizing the pamphlet for its description of homosexuality. Though the pamphlet does denounce the bullying and targeting of homosexuals, it calls the sexual preference “objectively disordered.”
“The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.”

From "Gay parents take issue with how Catholic schools handle homophobia" by Louise Brown, Education Reporter, Toronto Star 3/11/12

As a Catholic, a mom and a lesbian, Ann Tesluk . . . mother of two children at St. Joseph’s Catholic Elementary School was delighted when the school board sent out a lively 20-page equity blueprint last month to help teachers tackle all kinds of discrimination, from race and religion to disability and sexual orientation.

Then she read the fine print.

It felt like “stepping back into the Dark Ages.”

There, in the otherwise upbeat chapter “Rainbow is for Sexual Orientation,” which urges teachers to treat homophobic language as harshly as racial slurs and encourages the use of gay guest speakers and the reading of gay-positive texts, sat an excerpt from the Catholic Church’s catechism #2358.

To Tesluk, who has a son in Grade 3 and a daughter in Grade 6, such talk “creates an unsafe learning environment. We know gay students are being bullied to death.

From "Lesbian with kids in Catholic school demands removal of Catechism quote on homosexuality" by Patrick B. Craine, LifeSiteNews.com 3/16/12

The pamphlet in question, however, is controversial from more than one perspective. While quoting the Catechism that the homosexual inclination is “objectively disordered”, the pamphlet also misrepresents Catholic teaching in numerous ways. The pamphlet calls on schools to highlight homosexual role models and familiarize students with terms like “LGBTQQ” and “two-spirited.” It indicates that Canada legalized same-sex “marriage” in 2005 without mentioning that the Church opposes such unions.

Greg Reeves, director of education for the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland Clarington Catholic District School Board (PVNCCDSB), told LifeSiteNews that they have had enough complaints about the pamphlet, called The Colour of Equity, to give the wording a “relook” to see if they can explain the Church’s teaching better.

Reeves said the complaints are largely a result of confusion over the Church’s teaching, saying that the Catechism’s “phraseology is old.”

“As it is right now, it is derogatory, patronizing and discriminatory, not to mention lacking in scientific evidence,” [Tesluk] says. “Any child who reads this will be faced, at minimum, with a negative attitude towards homosexuality,” she continues. “Isn’t this what we are trying to prevent? How can we allow any school in Ontario to teach this to our children?”

A few residents have approached the Green Bay school district with concerns about the [Muslim] prayer time, worrying it takes away from learning and uses school resources to accommodate religion.

Praise Lesbian Homecoming King, or You're a Bigot

When lesbian Rebeca Arellano was crowned homecoming king at Patrick Henry High School in San Diego, she joined the queen Haileigh Adams, her lesbian counterpart. The school superintendent has since characterized every expressed disagreement with this glorification of sexual deviancy, regardless how civil, as hate-filled.
"For all the girls who think tradition should be continued, go back to the kitchen, stop having sex before you're married, get out of school and job system, don't have an opinion, don't own any property, give up the right to marry who you love, don't vote, and allow your husband to do whatever he pleases to you. Think about the meaning of tradition when you use it in your argument against us."

The couple said they were not planning to run and were shocked by the attention they've received.

The couple said they had received a lot of positive support, but that a lot of people were also angry about it, saying that it's wrong for a girl to be king.

Another commenter wrote, "Okay, this isn't fair by any means because the definition of a king explicitly states it's 'a male sovereign or monarch; a man who holds by life tenure, and usually by hereditary right, the chief authority over a country and people.' This individual here is a female thus she ought to be considered as a queen which is 'a female sovereign or monarch.'
