Court Nixes Police Favoring Muslims vs. Christians

On June 15, 2012, Christian evangelists were ordered by police to leave the Arab International Festival in Dearborn, Michigan because some Muslims there perpetrated acts of violence against the Christians.  Last week, the 6th Circuit Appeals Court ruled in favor of Bible Believers against defendant Wayne County, Michigan.
“We find that defendants violated the Bible Believers’ First Amendment rights because there can be no legitimate dispute based on this record that the [police] effectuated a heckler’s veto by cutting off the Bible Believers’ protected speech in response to a hostile crowd’s reaction. . . . The video record evinces next to no attempt made by the officers to protect the Bible Believers or prevent the lawless actions of the [Muslim] audience.”

The case stems from a 2012 incident in which members of a group called Bible Believers were pelted with rocks while carrying a pig’s head and telling Dearborn Muslims at the street festival that they would “burn in hell.” Wayne County sheriff’s deputies told the evangelists to leave or be ticketed.

“From a constitutional standpoint, this should be an easy case to resolve,” said Judge Eric Clay, writing for the majority. “However, it is also easy to understand Dearborn’s desire to host a joyous festival celebrating the city’s Arab heritage in an atmosphere that is free of hate and negative influences.

“But the answer to disagreeable speech is not violent retaliation by offended listeners or ratification of the heckler’s veto through threat of arrest by the police,” Clay wrote.

Some [Muslim] members of the crowd responded by throwing plastic bottles, eggs and milk crates at the Bible Believers.

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio, made its ruling based on the First Amendment, saying the evangelist group Bible Believers should have been protected even though its speech was loathsome and intolerant. The opinion also mentioned the obligation of police when confronted with constitutionally protected speech that threatens to incite violence.

“Bearing in mind the interspersed surges of ethnic, racial, and religious conflict that from time to time mar our national history, the constitutional lessons to be learned from the circumstances of this case are both timeless and markedly seasonable,” Judge Eric Clay wrote.

The opinion by the court on Wednesday overturned a lower-court judgment and sent the case back to a federal court in Detroit, where a judge will decide the damages.

An en banc federal appeals court [review by 15 judges] has ruled that Christian evangelists who were “preaching hate and denigration to a crowd of Muslims” may collect damages because police told them to leave.

Police conferred with the Wayne County corporation counsel and told the Bible Believers they would be cited for disorderly conduct if they did not leave. More than a dozen officers escorted the group members from the festival.

The Constitution, however, does not allow “an angry mob of riotous adolescents to dictate what religious beliefs and opinions could and could not be expressed,” the court said. . . .

The court said Wayne County “effectuated a constitutionally impermissible heckler’s veto,” violating the Christians’ rights to free speech, free exercise of religion and equal protection.

From "Anti-Muslim group wins appeal in Arab fest case" by Robert Snell, The Detroit News 10/28/15

The case against Wayne County, Sheriff Benny Napoleon and members of the department [deputies Dennis Richardson and Mike Jaafar], originally was handled in Detroit by U.S. District Judge Patrick Duggan, who recently retired.

The full court agreed one year ago to reconsider the case after setting aside a 2-1 decision by a three-judge panel in August 2014.

In that opinion, the panel said sheriff’s deputies didn’t violate the evangelists’ free speech rights

Such rehearings are rare.

“We are reviewing the court’s opinion,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman Paula Bridges said in a statement Wednesday. “No decision has been made as to what next steps, if any, will be taken therefore we will refrain from comment at this time.”

From "Court rules Bible Believers should not have been thrown out Arab American fest" by Khalil AlHajal, MLive Media Group 10/29/15

The lawsuit was originally filed in Detroit federal court by Ruben Chavez, Arthur Fisher, and Joshua DeLosSantos, a group known as the Bible Believers.

U.S. District Judge Patrick Duggan threw out the case, and an earlier appeals ruling upheld that decision, but the Wednesday opinion overturns the first two, ordering the case back to the lower court for calculation of damages.

"The only references to violence or lawlessness on the part of the Bible Believers were messages such as, 'Islam is a Religion of Blood and Murder,' 'Turn or Burn,' and 'Your prophet is a pedophile.' These messages, however offensive, do not advocate for, encourage, condone, or even embrace imminent violence or lawlessness," the majority found in an opinion written but U.S. 6th Circuit Judge Eric L. Clay.

"Although it might be inferred that the Bible Believers' speech was intended to anger their target audience, the record is devoid of any indication that they intended imminent lawlessness to ensue. Quite to the contrary, the Bible Believers contacted Wayne County prior to their visit, requesting that the WCSO keep the public at bay so that the Bible Believers could 'engage in their peaceful expression.'"

Smithsonian Favors Racist Eugenicist vs. Blacks

Curators at the Smithsonian Institution art and history museum are rejecting calls for the removal of a bust of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger.  Rather, the national historians say that the famous early 20th Century American eugenicist, who referred to the negro race as "human weeds" and "human waste," belongs in the museum's civil rights “Struggle for Justice” exhibit.
"We are paying for, even submitting to, the dictates of an ever increasing, unceasingly spawning class of human beings who never should have been born at all. . . . We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the [colored] minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."
-- Margaret Sanger (writing to birth control advocate Dr. Clarence Gamble in 1939)

"The last thing we need is a white supremacist sitting between the bust of Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. That is a slap in the face of black folks and I hope the curator can understand that."
-- Rev. Johnny Hunter, chairman of the Frederick Douglass Foundation

-- From "Conservatives Want Bust of Planned Parenthood Founder Removed From National Portrait Gallery" by Daniel White, Time Magazine 8/27/15

Conservative groups are calling on the National Portrait Gallery to remove of a bust of Margaret Sanger from the Washington, D.C. museum, the Associated Press reports. Sanger, who died in 1966, founded two groups that eventually became Planned Parenthood.

. . . a group of ministers lead by former Republican politician E.W. Jackson and the conservative non-profit ForAmerica say their opposition to the bust is based on Sanger’s support of eugenics, a social movement that sought to remove undesirable traits from the gene pool through sterilization and selective breeding.

. . . Presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas have written a letter to lawmakers that calls the sculpture’s display by the museum “an affront both to basic human decency and the very meaning of justice.”

In a statement to TIME, Planned Parenthood acknowledged Sanger’s flaws, but dismissed the attacks as motivated by anti-abortion sentiment.

[Birth control advocate Margaret] Sanger, who died in 1966, also supported eugenics, a now-condemned effort to discourage reproduction by criminals and others with undesirable traits. Brent Bozell, chairman of the conservative group ForAmerica, and a group of black pastors say Sanger favored using eugenics to limit the population of blacks, a claim that some Republican lawmakers have echoed but for which the evidence is contested.

"She will not be removed," museum spokeswoman Bethany Bentley said Wednesday. She said the gallery displays "significant people who represent the full spectrum of the American experience," including some with "less than admirable characteristics."

A Planned Parenthood spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But the group's website describes Sanger as "one of the movement's great heroes." It says women's progress in education, jobs and politics "can be directly linked to Sanger's crusade and women's ability to control their own fertility."

From "Black Pastors Protest Smithsonian Bust of Planned Parenthood's Nazi-Like Founder Margaret Sanger in Civil Rights Exhibit" by Samuel Smith, Christian Post Reporter 8/27/15

Prominent black pastors and pro-life activists gathered in front of the National Portrait Gallery on Thursday to demand that the taxpayer-funded museum remove a bust of Planned Parenthood's white supremacist founder, Margaret Sanger, from the institution's "Struggle for Justice" exhibit.

Nearly 20 African-American pastors and pro-life advocates spoke at the rally and explained that Sanger, who established abortion organizations that eventually became the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, did not advocate for abortion and birth control because she wanted to help "disadvantaged women," but because it was her goal to use eugenics to eliminate what she considered people of "inferior races."

In response to the letter sent by the coalition Ministers Taking a Stand earlier this month, National Portrait Gallery Director Kim Sajet replied with a letter stating that the gallery will keep the bust because Sanger brought "medical advice and affordable birth control to disadvantaged women."

“The woman was a racist. She was a genocidal figure in America and in human history, and to honor her is to be complicit in her evil and her racism,” [Bishop E.W.] Jackson said. “That’s right. If you are honoring Margaret Sanger, you are joining together with her in her racist ideology.”

Rev. Johnny Hunter of the Global Life and Family Mission in North Carolina, said it was a “slap in the face to black folks” to have Sanger as part of the “Struggle for Justice” exhibit.

“Her association with the eugenics movement shadowed her achievements in sex education and contraception, making her a figure of controversy, one whose complexities and contradictions mirror her times,” Director Kim Sajet told the pastors in an Aug. 19 letter.

“There is no ‘moral test’ for people to be accepted into the National Portrait Gallery,” said Sajet.

From "#BlackLivesMatter: Pastors Take on Controversial Legacy of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, Black Genocide in Scathing Letter" posted by Manny Otiko at Atlanta Black Star 8/10/15

Sanger worked to bring birth control to Black families in the south, but recognized her ideas would be met with suspicion. According to Factcheck.org, an organization that verifies media statements made by elected officials, Sanger wrote about the importance of gaining support from a black clergyman.

Considering its origins, the Black community has long viewed the birth control movement with suspicion. Many Black people felt that early experiments with birth control pills used Black communities as test subjects. And up until recently, some states still practiced elements of eugenics with mentally challenged people and other undesirables being forcibly sterilized. An Atlanta Blackstar story reported several cases of Black female inmates in California being sterilized without their consent.

Today, anti-abortion activists say the high rate of abortion in the Black community carries elements of eugenics. According to figures from the Center for Disease Control, while Black people make up about 14 percent of the population, 40 percent of abortions are carried out by Black women.

Tenn. School Denies Teaching Islam, Slams FOX News

After FOX News reported that the 8-year-old son of Sommer Bauer received a Nation of Islam handout from his Harold McCormick Elementary School in the small Tennessee town of Elizabethton, school Superintendent Ed Alexander immediately went ballistic on the media reports, saying that the boy swiped an errant sheet of paper from the teacher's table.  Now, other children claim they, too were handed the anti-American Islamic propaganda that depicted the Mount Rushmore presidents as racists.

For background, read Tennessee School Visits Mosque, No Time for Church and also read Massachusetts Students Forced To Learn Muslim Conversion and read the myriad examples of public schools favoring Islam.

However, Citizens Force Islam Indoctrination Out of Ohio Middle School

-- From "Mother, superintendent respond to school's Nation of Islam handout" by Olivia Caridi, WCYB-TV5 (Bristol, TN) 10/29/14

[Sommer Bauer] says she was contacted by Fox News, but wanted to talk to the principal beforehand. "I just wanted to know if it was an honest mistake that this was printed off and given to the students in the classroom, or is it part of the curriculum?" she says.

Her son told her that the class divided into four small groups that day for a Mount Rushmore activity, and the handout was one they were told to study.

[Supt.] Alexander says he's now dealing with something that's blown up nationally. "Thinking that we as a school system would promote Islam, Islamic nation, anti-patriotism, defame the presidents of the United States that are on Mount Rushmore, doing these things, indoctrinating our children, that's absurd," he says.

Alexander told News 5 that lesson plans by teachers are checked every week by principals, and that the legitimate Mount Rushmore materials that the teachers used in the small groups were included in the third grade student standards.

Alexander said he spent much of the past three days investigating the incident and determining what actions to take.

One thing he did agree with Fox was that the National of Islam document should not have been in the classroom.

Alexander said that while the Fox News story on Monday was accurate in reporting the boy had been in possession of a document he had taken from school, he went on to say on Tuesday that “what was reported (which had been rebutted prior to the airing) was misleading and totally incorrect. I can only think it was shown for its sensational effect. Sadly, regardless of any follow-up report, our system has been defamed.”

From "Elizabethton Director Alexander says FOX News report on schools not fair, not balanced" by John Thompson, Elizabethton Bureau Chief for Johnson City Press 10/28/14

[Supt.] Alexander said the principal told him the whole thing started because a teacher preparing for a teacher observation Sept. 27 was doing research on Mount Rushmore for the lesson. The teacher conducted a widespread search of the Internet for information on Mount Rushmore.

One of the items printed for background information for the teacher observation was a Nation of Islam article on what it takes to be placed on Mount Rushmore. The article depicted the four presidents there — George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln — as racists.

Alexander said he told [FOX News' Todd] Starnes the teacher read the document and discarded it onto a separate table next to the teacher’s desk. Alexander said “the student, without permission, took the sheet from a ‘ton’ of discarded teacher’s material on that table. Then the student took it home and gave it to the parent.”

The [second] parent asked not to be identified to protect her child. She told me she came forward because of how the school is treating Mrs. Bauer’s son.

“I don’t want this little boy to be looked at as a liar,” the parent said. “As of right now that’s what all of these adults are making this boy out to be – and that makes me sick to my stomach.”

According to the parent, the children were separated into four groups. Each group was given two “sheets of paper.”

“The teacher held up each one and said, ‘These do not go home. These are just to use here,” the parent told me.

The Nation of Islam “sheet ” explained that George Washington hailed from Virginia, a “prime breeder of black people.” Of Theodore Roosevelt, it was alleged he called Africans “ape-like.” There were also disparaging comments made about Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln.

'Jesus' Booted from Predominantly Jewish IL School

Marshon Sanders, a recently-baptized Christian twelfth-grade student, arrived at his public high school in the affluent Chicago suburb of Highland Park dressed for Halloween as Jesus Christ, but was immediately removed from class.  School administrators told Marshon to remove his costume because it was offensive, even though other students were dressed as Greek gods, Catholic priests, Mormons, and Moses.

Shortly before school let out for the day, the high school released a statement, saying that upon further review, Sanders was told he could put the costume back on.

But Frison, who met with school administrators along with her son to discuss the matter, said he chose not to do so.

“They realized they might have been premature and didn’t really assess the situation,” said Frison.

[His mother] said that her neighborhood is “predominantly white and predominantly Jewish.” Although diversity and inclusion are a big part of her community, she wonders if race was a factor and whether seeing a “black Jesus” was what caused the tensions.

“Racism, stereotypes, and prejudice still exist everywhere,” the mother said. “If it had been a Caucasian student who dressed up as Jesus, would it have the same impact and sensitivity? Would they be pulled out of two classes?”

Black Chicago Girl Killed, No Media Outrage

The media blitz of Trayvon Martin's death, versus the virtual media blackout of the deaths of Tonya Reaves and her unborn child during an abortion . . .

One year after Tonya's death, Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is joining Chicago area pastors and the Life Education And Resource Network (LEARN) to demand that the Illinois General Assembly respond to the genocide.  The 3-day event began yesterday with a press conference -- absent the media.
“Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were willing to move heaven and earth to get justice for Trayvon Martin, but they write off Tonya Reeves like she never existed.  Someone needs to ask these two why they think Trayvon’s life counts more than Tonya’s.”

A group of ministers is calling for tougher oversight of facilities in Illinois that provide abortions.

On Thursday, they also remembered Tonya Reaves. Reaves died nearly a year ago after undergoing an abortion at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Chicago.

The ministers want lawmakers in Springfield to pass legislation to ensure the safety of all women. They say that includes making sure women are better informed of the risks of an abortion.

Tonya Reaves died at Northwestern July 20 [2012] after she began to hemorrhage at a Planned Parenthood clinic located at 18 S. Michigan Ave., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Reaves, of the 1500 block of North Kildare Avenue, was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m.

An autopsy found she died of a hemorrhage following a cervical dilation and evacuation performed during an intrauterine pregnancy, according to the medical examiner's office. Her death was ruled an accident.

Dorsey Johns, Reaves' mother, claims staff at the Planned Parenthood clinic "carelessly performed" the elective abortion and failed to properly monitor and assess her daughter's condition after the procedure, according to the suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court.

From "Planned Parenthood Killed Tonya Reaves in an Abortion One Year Ago, No Justice Yet" by Cheryl Sullenger, Operation Rescue, posted at LifeNews.com 7/18/13

Planned Parenthood staff allowed Reaves to languish at the clinic after having botched her abortion while she hemorrhaged for 5½ long hours before seeking emergency care. Records show that Planned Parenthood did not call 911 for an ambulance, which was the quickest way to get help for her.

While the nation rages over the supposed “injustice” of the acquittal of George Zimmerman, a Hispanic man, in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, a Black teen, there has been no mention in the national press about Tonya’s brutal death at the hands of Planned Parenthood, even though Tonya was also an African-American whose life was ended by a blonde white abortionist named Mandy Gittler.

In fact, while Pres. Barack Obama was quick to jump in to the Trayvon Martin fray, noting that if he had a son, he’d look like Trayvon, Obama disrespected Tonya and her grieving family with comments in support of Planned Parenthood made during a campaign speech in Portland just days after her death.

We have to wonder how Mr. Obama would have felt if that had been Malia or Sasha bleeding to death on that abortion table. . . .

From "#Justice4Tonya: Hold Planned Parenthood Accountable for Killing Black Woman in Abortion" by Ryan Bomberger, LifeNews.com 7/18/13

We are a culture that jumps on bandwagons. Trayvon’s tragic death brought out the racialists, the Civil Wrongs activists and other liberals in droves. A black woman is killed by Planned Parenthood, and the President praises the abortion chain, while the “I AM TRAYVON MARTIN” crowd is silent.

Sadly, [Tonya's] death proves that, for many so called “civil rights” leaders, sometimes violence toward women is simply…ok. The real war on women has killed again.  The simple truth is that protecting abortion is more important to Planned Parenthood than protecting women.

No mainstream news outlet has asked the question, “What is a late-term abortionist like Mandy Gittler doing in a Planned Parenthood clinic that claims to only do medication abortions?” Planned Parenthood of Illinois has never indicated that surgical abortions were ever done at their 18 South Michigan Ave (Loop Center) location. . . .

From "Grieved Over Strife Surrounding Zimmerman Verdict" by Dr. Alveda King 7/15/13

“I believe that the verdict in the Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin Case further exposes a grievous and deep vein of disharmony and racial tension in our nation that can only be healed when people realize that every human being should be treated with dignity and respect,” says Dr. Alveda King, Director of African American Outreach for Priests for Life.

“Now in the wake of Trayvon’s senseless death and Mr. Zimmerman’s acquittal many people are angry at the tragic loss of life and what some perceive to be a shun on the Black race. For the record, Acts 17:26 teaches that there is one blood and one human race, not multiple races, so racism is based on a lie!

“Let’s face it. If both people in this tragedy were of common ethnicity, there would be no media feeding frenzy. The gun control debate is a smokescreen in that people do use guns to kill other people as Zimmerman did in this case. But guns don’t kill people. People kill people. Yes, sometimes they use guns, but they sometimes use bombs or knives too. We definitely need love control and heart control and nonviolence control.

“There are murders going on every day that the media overlooks. Remember Tonya Reaves. Millions of Black babies and many of their mothers are being slaughtered in abortion mills. Where is the justice for that?”

“It drives me crazy when the captains of the religious right are always calling us back . . . for blacks to be back in the back of the bus . . . for women to be back in the kitchen . . . for immigrants to be back on their side of the border,” Leon said.

Cain, former CEO of Godfather's Pizza, told the Christian Broadcasting Network that God has been behind him since he decided to run for the White House.

Polls in recent weeks have indicated that Cain has conspicuously strong backing among Republicans in the states of the old Confederacy. He has been a Tea Party darling virtually since the movement’s inception. And, as recently as Friday, he was cheered to the rafters by the deeply conservative, and almost uniformly white, attendees of the Values Voter Summit in Washington.

In his speech announcing his candidacy, back in May, he invoked Martin Luther King Jr. Were he to become president, he said, “we will finally be able to say, ‘Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, America is free at last.’”

The line deftly combined a nod to King’s legacy with the suggestion that true freedom for African-Americans would involve shaking off their resilient attachment to the Democratic Party.

Asked for her view on Cain’s rise, the American Enterprise Institute’s Karlyn Bowman, a polling expert, said, “I don’t think it’s especially surprising. He’s a very strong, very likable candidate. Romney seems a little cold. Perry seems a little hot. The fact that Cain is black is really irrelevant.”

From "Exclusive: Herman Cain Feeling 'Like Moses' and Ready for Media 'Gotcha' Questions" by David Brody, CBN News Chief Political Correspondent 10/8/11

[The excerpt below is] part of a fascinating interview with “The Hermanator” that I did Friday afternoon at the Values Voter Summit in Washington DC.

David Brody: “Where does God fit into this because you were a long shot and now jetting to the top of the polls? How do you see God’s role in all of this?

Herman Cain: “God’s been in this from the beginning because when I first started to feel that I needed to consider running I did a lot of praying. I felt like Moses when God said I want you to go into Egypt and lead my people out. Moses resisted. I resisted. Moses said you got the wrong person. You can’t be talking about me. I had these conversations with God in terms of, ‘Lord I’ve done a lot of things but are you sure’ but you shouldn’t question God. You should just make sure that’s the message. God has been in this since the beginning and my staff and I we say that all the time. There are certain things that happen along this journey that they couldn’t happen unless God was in it. I know that for a fact because of my life long faith.”

Abortion Genocide Billboards Unwelcomed in Calif.

"Black & Beautiful" billboards calling attention to abortionists' targeting of minorities are going up in Oakland even as Hispanic activists successfully pressured the billboard owner to yank similar ads addressing Latinas in the Los Angeles area.

UPDATE 6/28/11: Billboard company declares ad NOT offensive -- it will stay!

-- From "Racial specific anti-abortion billboards arrive in Oakland" by Paul T. Rosynsky, Oakland Tribune 6/22/11

A national anti-abortion advertising campaign targeting inner-city minorities with racial-specific billboards reached Oakland this month with at least 25 "Black & Beautiful" signs plastered in East and West Oakland.

While the Radiance Foundation and groups associated with it call the billboards educational, abortion rights and civil rights organizations have labeled them racist, offensive and misleading.

Although [Walter Hoye III, president of the Issues 4 Life Foundation], an African-American minister, said he did not think the billboards were racist or offensive, the California NAACP said they were and urged groups to pressure any billboard company that decides to conduct business with the Radiance Foundation or any group affiliated with it.

[Alice Huffman, president of the California NAACP,] said she was disturbed that the billboards attack Planned Parenthood, a health care provider that, in many cases, is the only source for health care in poor minority communities.

"They stigmatize African-American women, they're not a positive message," [local Congresswoman Barbara] Lee said. "All women should have a right to make their own decisions without anyone interfering with those personal decisions."

Billboard supporters are firing back, defending the anti-abortion billboard.

"What about saying our children are black and beautiful is an attack on black women," asked Catherine Davis, with the Black Pro-Life Coalition.

The "Issues for Life Foundation" says the billboards will stay up until July 10.

From "Anti-Abortion Billboards Targeting Latinos in Los Angeles Removed Under Pressure" by FoxNews.com 6/17/11

An anti-abortion group says that an advertising company bowed to pressure by removing jumbo billboards in Los Angeles that portray abortion as a form of genocide in the Hispanic community – a sequel to a billboard campaign that targeted the black community in New York and Georgia.

"The most dangerous place for a Latino is in the womb," reads the three signs on billboards space the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles purchased from CBS Outdoor.

The billboards went up last Friday and were supposed to stay up for a month. But they are being taken down Friday after the group said supporters of abortion rights complained, calling the billboards racist.

The Los Angeles chapter of Planned Parenthood cheered the removal of the billboards.

From "Pro-Abortion Hispanic Groups Take Down Pro-Life Latino Billboards" by Steven Ertelt, LifeNews.com 6/17/11

Alfonso Aguilar, executive director of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, announced the new pro-life billboards recently, saying “It’s clear that Latinos are being targeted by organizations that promote abortion like Planned Parenthood. Many of their clinics are in Latino neighborhoods and communities.”

The new billboards read, in Spanish and English, “El lugar mas peligroso para un Latino es el vientre de su madre/The most dangerous place for a Latino is in the womb.” The ads were part of a kickoff for a Sunday event called “Unidos por la Vida” (United for Life) at the LA Sports Arena sponsored by the pro-life group Manto de Guadalupe. The event featured Governor Rick Perry of Texas and pro-life activist Lila Rose of Live Action Films.

Gabriela Valle, senior director of California Latinas for Reproductive Justice, is one of the pro-abortion zealots taking on the billboards and told Orange County Weekly that she believes they are racist.

The left-wing Center for American Progress also aggressively attacked the ads . . .

Government Keeps List of 'Homophobic Kids'

President Obama having enacted the Hate Crimes law, can now see the American future in the United Kingdom where 30,000 students per year, including toddlers, are being permanently branded as bigots based on playground squabbles.

Solution: A £35,000 grant will enable public schools to teach "gay issues" in core curricula, with a gala launch celebrating LGBT History Month.

-- From "Thousands of schoolchildren branded 'racist' and 'homophobic' during playground squabbles" by Andrew Hough, London Telegraph 1/18/11

Teachers logged more than 10,000 confrontations involving primary school students making racist insults or derogatory comments about homosexuals in 12 months.

A further 20,000 “hate crimes” were recorded against secondary school students such as using the phrases “white trash” or “gaylord” during playground squabbles.

And nursery school staff reported several dozen such bullying incidents involving young children despite most not understanding the meaning of what they were saying.

After the introduction of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, which put public bodies under a duty to eliminate discrimination, schools were told they had to monitor the impact of their policies on the educational attainment of pupils of different races.

From "30,000 pupils branded as bigots: Teachers log 'racist' and 'homophobic' jibes in playground squabbles, even at nursery" by Sarah Harris, UK Daily Mail 1/17/11

The school can also keep the pupil’s name and ‘offence’ on file. The record can be passed from primaries to secondaries or when a pupil moves between schools at the request of the new head.

And if schools are asked for a pupil reference by a future employer or a university, the record could be used as the basis for it, meaning the pettiest of incidents has the potential to blight a child for life.

In the majority of cases, the ‘racist’ spats involved mere name-calling.

At one primary, teachers filled out an incident form after three Year Four pupils, aged eight or nine, told a classmate he was ‘gay’ and could not play with them.

From "Children as young as FOUR to be taught about homosexuality under plans to 'celebrate gay community'" by Kate Loveys, UK Daily Mail 1/23/11

Children as young as four are to be taught about homosexuality in maths, geography, science and English lessons.

In a Government-backed drive to ‘celebrate the gay community’, lesson plans for pupils have been drawn-up to raise awareness about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual issues.

And youngsters aged four will be exposed to images of same-sex couples and books such as ‘And Tango Makes Three’ which is about two male penguins raising a chick, inspired by events at New York’s Central Park Zoo.

David Watkins, a teacher involved in the scheme, said: ‘when you have a maths problem, why does it have to involve a straight family or a boyfriend and girlfriend? Why not two boys or two girls?

Study Exposes Liberal Indoctrination by Colleges

A new study by the National Association of Scholars has found that 70 percent of the summer reading books assigned to incoming college freshmen in the U.S. show a liberal bias and are not academically challenging, setting off a storm of debate in educational circles.

-- From "Study Finds Liberal Bias in College Summer Reading Lists, Stirring Debate" By Ed Barnes, FOXNews.com 6/23/10

The report, "Beach Books: What Do Colleges Want Students to Read Outside Class?", surveyed 290 colleges and categorized their summer reading lists in broad terms, such as "multiculturalism, immigration and racism" (the most common category chosen by colleges), or "environmentalism, animal rights and food" (the second largest liberal category selected by colleges). The study found that "the choices by and large reflect leftist political perspectives."

"Even where the books themselves may convey more complex social views, most of the books on the list fit neatly with the agenda of the campus left: anti-Western, anti-business, multicultural, environmentalist and alienated. The books do signal what lies ahead for students in many colleges: a four-year program of more of the same," the report concluded.

The study did not look at the alleged bias of the assigned books individually, according to NAS spokeswoman Ashley Thorne, who helped create the list. "We looked at what the books were about," she said, and then categorized the general subject as either liberal or conservative.

"Only 2 percent of the books were considered conservative," she said.

. . . Peter Wood, president of NAS, stood by his group's report, saying, "Something is wrong when Frankenstein is the best book on the list; the only work of philosophy is The Communist Manifesto; and books on Africa outnumber books on Europe nearly six to one."

Mass. Parents Force Cancellation of Obscene School Play

It's been a source of tremendous frustration and anger to parents that public school officials have been selecting increasingly vulgar and offensive plays -- many with blatant homosexual themes -- for students to act in and for the student body to watch.

Even just one set of parents can stop things if they are determined enough.

-- From "Play pulled over questionable content" by WHDH-TV7 NBC Boston 5/27/10

Outraged parents put a stop to a questionable play at Attleboro [Massachusetts] High School.

Amanda Correllus was set to direct the play “The Wedding Story,” written by Julianne Homokay this weekend.

The play was pulled after a parent of a freshman in the play found the content inappropriate for teenagers, and the Attleboro School Board agreed.

“Reading the script, many of the members felt like this was way over the top. It just contradicted all the values we’re trying to teach our kids at Attleboro,” said Attleboro School Committee Chair Raymond DiCiaccio.

DiCiaccio said the play was offensive to many minority groups.

From "Parents get Attleboro High School to cancel offensive homosexual-themed play!" by MassResistance 5/28/10

It's a shock that any adults would do this with impressionable kids. Unfortunately, this is a reflection of the types of people who are becoming teachers and administrators and pushing their agenda with impunity.

Here's a sample of the bizarre script from "The Wedding Story":
. . . How many of those kids will live up to your version of the story? None! They can't, it's too much pressure. It's like why Catholic women are all messed up, you can't be a virgin AND be a mother.

. . . and a young, slightly effeminate man who took it up the ass once from a fellow Eagle Scout, but since it only happened once when he was 17 and drunk on Kahlua, he still considered himself straight.

. . . she felt she needed to make a legitimate relationship out of the encounter to justify the sex, even though she really prefers black men. To stay deep in the dark closet, the man proposed to the woman, and since she's 35 and, let's face it, not getting any younger, she accepted his pathetic offer because it was a real ego boost to have snagged a hot stud eleven years younger than she, even if he does have the occasional problem getting a stiffy with her because he's really gay.

. . . the Groom, unable to suppress his inner self for a moment longer, took up with a drag queen from SoHo, and the Bride, realizing she'd never be a mother, consoled herself with vodka and Xanax and died of a somewhat accidental overdose three years later. The Groom, now 27, took up wearing cowboy hats and chaps, and made the unfortunate mistake of traveling to Wyoming on business where he was dragged to his death behind a 4x4 by a bunch of homophobic rednecks.
The school at first gave them the usual runaround. They claimed the students" had chosen the play, so the adults weren't responsible. They said that although there may be "inappropriate" parts, there was a "disclaimer" in the program that the play should be considered "satirical" and that they had "revised" the script. The parents went up the chain of school officials to the school committee and would not give up. (Of course, the teachers union got involved, defending the play and claiming "censorship" by the parents.)

Teach Students: "America 'an oppressive hellhole'"

A program proposed at the University of Minnesota would result in required examinations of teacher candidates on "white privilege" as well as "remedial re-education" for those who hold the "wrong" views . . .

UPDATE 12/26/o9: University backtracks after watchdog pressure

UPDATE 12/10/09: Additional report with link to university report

-- From "They must denounce exclusionary biases and embrace the vision. (Or else.)" by Katherine Kersten, Minneapolis Star Tribune 11/22/09

Do you believe in the American dream -- the idea that in this country, hardworking people of every race, color and creed can get ahead on their own merits? If so, that belief may soon bar you from getting a license to teach in Minnesota public schools -- at least if you plan to get your teaching degree at the University of Minnesota's Twin Cities campus.

In a report compiled last summer, the Race, Culture, Class and Gender Task Group at the U's College of Education and Human Development recommended that aspiring teachers there must repudiate the notion of "the American Dream" in order to obtain the recommendation for licensure required by the Minnesota Board of Teaching. Instead, teacher candidates must embrace -- and be prepared to teach our state's kids -- the task force's own vision of America as an oppressive hellhole: racist, sexist and homophobic.

The task group is part of the Teacher Education Redesign Initiative, a multiyear project to change the way future teachers are trained at the U's flagship campus. The initiative is premised, in part, on the conviction that Minnesota teachers' lack of "cultural competence" contributes to the poor academic performance of the state's minority students. Last spring, it charged the task group with coming up with recommendations to change this. In January, planners will review the recommendations and decide how to proceed.

Response to above: "American Dream lives on at the U" Commentary by Jean K. Quam, Minneapolis Star Tribune 11/27/09

. . . The American Dream lives and thrives in the College of Education and Human Development.

We do not take a narrow view of who is an American and who can achieve the dream. We expect and require that teachers of the next half-century take a broad, balanced view of that dream.

From "Teaching plan: America 'an oppressive hellhole'" by Bob Unruh © 2009 WorldNetDaily 11/27/09

[The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE)], which promotes civil liberties on the campuses of America's colleges and universities, has dispatched a letter to University of Minnesota President Robert Bruininks asking him to intervene to prevent the adoption of policies proposed in his College of Education and Human Development.

"The university's general counsel should be asked to comment as soon as possible," said the letter from Adam Kissel, an officer with FIRE. "If the Race, Culture, Class, and Gender Task Group achieves its stated goals, the result will be political and ideological screening of applicants, remedial re-education for those with the 'wrong' views and values, [and] withholding of degrees from those upon whom the university's political re-education efforts proved ineffective."

By any "nontotalitarian" standards, he wrote, the plans being made so far by the school are "severely unjust and impermissibly intrude into matters of individual conscience."

Kissel wrote that it appears that the university "intends to redesign its admissions process so that it screens out people with the 'wrong' beliefs and values – those who either do not have sufficient 'cultural competence' or those who the college judges will not be able to be converted to the 'correct' beliefs and values even after remedial re-education."

"These intentions violate the freedom of conscience of the university's students. As a public university bound by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, the university is both legally and morally obligated to uphold this fundamental right," he wrote.

Among the issues discussed in the plans are requirements that teachers would be able to instruct students on the "myth of meritocracy" in the United States, "the history of demands for assimilation to white, middle-class, Christian meanings and values," and the "history of white racism."

"Here's the kicker," FIRE said in its report. "The college even realizes that its efforts to impose such a severe ideological litmus test may be unconstitutional."

Hate Crimes Laws = Blatant Discrimination

The 4th of July attack on a family by a hate-filled mob of nearly fifty teens doesn't qualify as a hate crime because of the race of the victims and perpetrators.

-- From "Akron police investigate teen mob attack on family" by Phil Trexler, Akron Beacon Journal staff writer 7/7/09

Akron police say they aren't ready to call it a hate crime or a gang initiation.

But to Marty Marshall, his wife and two kids, it seems pretty clear.

It came after a family night of celebrating America and freedom with a fireworks show at Firestone Stadium. Marshall, his family and two friends were gathered outside a friend's home in South Akron.

Out of nowhere, the six were attacked by dozens of teenage boys, who shouted "This is our world" and "This is a black world" as they confronted Marshall and his family.

The Marshalls, who are white, say the crowd of teens who attacked them and two friends June 27 on Girard Street numbered close to 50. The teens were all black.

"This was almost like being a terrorist act," Marshall said. "And we allow this to go on in our neighborhoods?"

Marshall was the most seriously injured. He suffered a concussion and multiple bruises to his head and eye. He said he spent five nights in the critical care unit at Akron General Medical Center.

The construction worker said he now fears for his family's safety, and the thousands of dollars in medical bills he faces without insurance.

White House Equates Homophobia in Military to Racism

"Changing the U.S. military's 'don't ask, don't tell' policy for gay troops . . . Defense Secretary Robert Gates . . . noted it took five years for the U.S. military to racially integrate during the Truman administration."

UPDATE 5/11/09: White House conferencing with Pentagon about change

-- From "Defense secretary cautious on lifting 'don't ask, don't tell' policy on gays in military" Lara Jakes, Associated Press 4/16/09

Speaking at the Army War College, Gates said he and President Barack Obama were discussing the policy and whether to change it. Gates said he was not yet taking a position about whether gay troops should be open about their sexuality, which could lead to their discharge under the current rules.

"If we do it, it's imperative that we do it right and very carefully," Gates told reporters later on a military jet to Newport, R.I., where he was to speak Friday at the Navy's war college.

Obama committed during the 2008 presidential campaign to moving to end the Clinton administration-era policy that was enacted as a compromise between openly gay people serving in the armed forces and those opposed to gays in uniform.

Black Pastors: Say NO to Planned Parenthood's Money

Candidates should not accept the abortionists' $10 million offered as campaign contributions

-- From "Black Pro-Life Advocates Hope Candidates Refuse Planned Parenthood Funds" by Steven Ertelt, LifeNews.com Editor 6/24/08

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A coalition of black pro-life pastors and advocates plan a march at the headquarters of both the national Republican and Democratic parties on Thursday [June 26]. They want candidates of both parties to refuse any of the $10 million Planned Parenthood plans to spend on the upcoming elections.

The African-American activists say Planned Parenthood targets black women and historically black communities with their abortion centers.

They also point to an investigation showing staff at Planned Parenthood offices gladly accepting donations from a caller pretending to want the funds used for abortions on black babies.

“We are very concerned that Planned Parenthood is targeting African American communities and African American babies,” Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King Jr, told Fox News.

“Any candidate who continues … by accepting campaign contributions says that you’re not as concerned about civil rights for all people,” King said. “It’s an anti-civil rights act to support Planned Parenthood.”

Day Gardner of the National Black Pro-Life Union and King are leading the effort, which will involve 50 black pastors.

"Sustainability": the New PC Code Word

First "social justice," then "disposition training," now "sustainability" is academia's new code word of forced ideology

From "The Worst Campus Code Word" by John Leo, posted 4/29/08 at Minding the Campus

The academic left is fond of buzzwords that sound harmless but function in a highly ideological way. Many schools of education and social work require students to have a good "disposition." In practice this means that conservatives need not apply, as highly publicized attempts to penalize right-wing students at Brooklyn College and Washington State University revealed. "Social justice" is an even more useful codeword. Who can oppose it? But some schools made the mistake of spelling out that it means advocacy for causes of the left, including support for gay marriage and adoption, also opposition to "institutional racism," heterosexism, classism and ableism. Students at Teachers College, Columbia, are required to acknowledge that belief in "merit, social mobility and individual responsibility" often produce and perpetuate social inequalities. Even in its mildest form "social justice" puts schools in a position of judging the acceptability of students' political and social opinions.

Now the left is organizing around its most powerful codeword yet: sustainability. Dozens of universities now have sustainability programs. Arizona State is bulking up its curriculum and seems to be emerging as the strongest sustainability campus. UCLA has a housing floor devoted to sustainability. The American College Personnel Association (ACPA) has a sustainability task force and has joined eight other education associations to form a sustainability consortium. Pushed by the cultural left, UNESCO has declared the United National Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005-2014, featuring the now ubiquitous symbol of the sustainability movement - three overlapping circles representing environmental, economic and social reform (i.e., ecology is only a third of what the movement is about).

Only recently have the goals and institutionalization of the movement become clear. The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability is Higher Education (AASHE) says it "defines sustainability is an inclusive way, encompassing human and ecological health, social justice, secure livelihoods and a better world for all generations." When the residential life program at the University of Delaware - possibly the most appalling indoctrination program ever to appear on an American campus - was presented, Res Life director Kathleen Kerr packaged it as a sustainability program. Since suspended, possibly only temporarily, the program discussed mandatory sessions for students as "treatments" and insisted that whites acknowledge their role as racists. It also required students to achieve certain competencies including "students will recognize that systemic oppression exists in our society." At a conference, Kerr explained "the social justice aspects of sustainability education," referring to "environmental racism," "domestic partnerships" and "gender equity."
