'Gay Gene' Claimed by Pope's New Spanish Cardinal

Just when the liberal media believed they had effectively twisted Pope Francis and his supposed new doctrine into a pretzel, yet another high appointment in the Roman Catholic hierarchy has riled homosexualists -- ironically by agreeing that a yet-to-be-found "gay gene" exists, but says it's a defect.
"Homosexuality is a defective manner of expressing sexuality, because this [sex] has a structure and a purpose, which is procreation. A homosexual who can't achieve this [procreation] is failing."
-- Archbishop Fernando Sebastian Aguilar

Controversial remarks made by Spain's newest cardinal have landed the Catholic Church in hot water with gay rights advocates. Archbishop Fernando Sebastian Aguilar said Sunday that homosexuality was a "defect" that needed to be addressed so that homosexuals could find a way to cure themselves going forward.

"Our bodies have many defects. I have high blood pressure," said Aguilar, "It's a defect that I have to try and correct in whatever way I can...To say that homosexuality is a defect is not an insult: it helps because in many cases of homosexuality it is possible to recover and become normal with the right treatment."

The cardinal's comments were immediately condemned by Spanish gay rights group Colegas.

From "New Spanish Cardinal: 'Homosexuality Can Be Recovered and Normalized With Adequate Treatment'" by Michael W. Chapman, CNSNews.com 1/20/14

In an interview published Sunday, reported the AFP, Archbishop Aguilar  said, “A lot of people complain and don’t tolerate it but with all respect I say that homosexuality is a defective way of manifesting sexuality, because that has a structure and a purpose, which is procreation.”

He continued, “Pointing out a defect to a homosexual is not an offense, it is a help because many cases of homosexuality can be recovered and normalized with adequate treatment. It is not an offense, it is esteem. When someone has a defect, the good friend is the one who tells him.”

When asked about Pope Francis’ remark last year about not judging a gay person who with good will seeks to follow Christ, Archbishop Aguilar said the Pope was not contradicting church teaching. “It is one thing to show welcome and affection to a homosexual person and another to morally justify the exercise of homosexuality,” said the archbishop.

[Aguilar] said: 'All [the Pope] is doing is offering comprehension and compassion and showing a desire to welcome those who have gone astray.'

When reminded of the Pope's speech last year asking for compassion towards homosexuals, he said: 'The pope is very respectful and holds all people in high esteem but he doesn't betray or change the traditional teaching of the church. You can tell a person what their weakness is but that doesn't justify a decision to respect them and help them.'

The 84-year Archbishop emeritus of Pamplona, one of 19 new cardinals named by Pope Francis last week, elevated archbishop to the rank of cardinal in recognition of his life-long service to the church.

Gays & Atheists Demand Air Force Fire Evangelicals

When the atheist advocacy organization Military Religious Freedom Foundation and myriad homosexualists learned that Dr. Michael Rosebush, a Christian who believes that homosexual behavior is sinful and that faith in Jesus Christ redeems us from sin, has been employed at the Air Force Academy since 2009, they joined in a chorus calling for his termination.

-- From "Academy's Hiring of Anti-gay Author Draws Ire" by Leo Shane III, Stars and Stripes 11/21/13

Gay rights advocates are demanding Air Force Academy officials explain why they hired a controversial anti-gay author as part of their ethics program, saying his views are offensive and potentially destructive.

Mike Rosebush, who now works as a research analyst for the academy's Center of Character and Leadership Development, was hired by the academy in 2009, before the military's "don't ask, don't tell" law was repealed.

The same year, he published "Sanctification Coaching: Sexual Purity and Peace for Christian Men with Same-Sex Attractions." The book advocates using Christian teachings and prayer to overcome "wicked desires" like homosexual urges, and charts Rosebush's own "struggles" to turn away from a gay lifestyle.

Before that, Rosebush was an active leader and speaker at numerous "conversion therapy" organizations, which maintain that same-sex urges can be overcome through discipline and prayer.

In his current capacity, Dr Rosebush has been involved with the design and execution of MOSAIC Personalized Coaching. The MOSAIC program develops growth in areas related directly to the Air Force’s Core Values and the Air Force’s Institutional Leadership Competencies, to include Respect for Human Dignity, Humility, Duty, Honesty, Care for Others, Taking Care of People, etc. The Academy’s Mosaic program is based on best practices from executive coaching in industry and academia. The program has been validated by the Jon C. Dalton Institute on College Student Values, earning its 2013 Best Practices Award, and has generated requests by outside corporate agencies for application to their organizations.

Rosebush has actually spent a good share of his career at the academy. After graduating from there in 1975, he taught a core psychology course on campus from 1982 to 1985, the academy says via email. In 1989, he completed a doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of North Carolina, which included a dissertation titled, "Behavioral observation scale for a subordinate appraisal of supervisory performance at the U.S. Air Force Academy."

He then returned to the academy from 1988 to 1992, teaching courses on leadership and marriage and family. He was named an "outstanding instructor" during that time, the academy reports.

In 1990, he became a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado; he would often practice over the phone. In 1995, he retired from the military and joined Focus on the Family, the Colorado Springs-based Christian organization notorious for LGBT intolerance.

During 10 years there, he was a vice president and directed a college program in the Focus on the Family Institute, according to biographies issued by the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuals (NARTH) and the website strengthinweakness.org.

From "Academy official under fire for past work promoting 'recovery' for gays" by Stephen Losey, Staff writer, Air Force Times 11/19/13

In a statement, the academy said Rosebush “does not and will not evaluate or counsel cadets,” and “has had no interaction with cadets at any time since he was hired in 2009.” Rosebush last interacted with cadets during his previous employment at the academy, which went from 1988 to 1992. During that period, Rosebush worked in the academy’s directorate of education and taught a course on marriage and family and a behavioral science core leadership course, and he won an outstanding instructor award, the academy said.

He also was named the Cadet Wing “civilian of the year” by the commandant of cadets in 2011.

The Amazon summary says Rosebush was the professional counselor’s network director at Exodus International, the now-defunct ex-gay ministry.

Ex-Gay Ministry Joins Gay Agenda: Christians Wrong

American media are ecstatic: A long-time Christian ministry of former homosexuals, Exodus International, which has preached for decades that faith in Jesus Christ will overcome sinful behavior, is going out of business as the organization's leader, Alan Chambers, in a lengthy apology, announced that churches are wrong to "love the sinner, but hate the sin."
“I am sorry that when I celebrated a person [engaged in homosexual behavior] coming to Christ and surrendering their sexuality to Him, I callously celebrated the end of [such sinful] relationships that broke your heart.”

Alan Chambers said on Exodus International's website Thursday that the group wants to apologize "to the gay community for years of undue suffering and judgment at the hands of the organization and the church as a whole."

Chambers also says he is sorry the group promoted sexual orientation change efforts and apologized for not challenging Christians who called gays names like "sodomite."

From "Group That Promoted ‘Curing’ Gays Ceases Operations" by Gerry Mullany, New York Times 6/20/13

The decision by the board of Exodus International to stop operating comes as the group’s president, Alan Chambers, has been increasingly vocal in proclaiming that there was no cure for homosexuality and that therapy did not work in changing a person’s sexual orientation.

The group’s underlying approach toward homosexuality had been that people are not born with such sexual inclinations, but rather choose them, leaving the potential for their being cured. Such thinking has been a rationale among some conservatives and evangelicals for their staunch opposition to same-sex marriage.

But in recent years the group had come under increased criticism as professional associations denounced its focus on reparative therapy to “cure” homosexuality, saying it was not only ineffective but potentially harmful. At the same time, polls have shown an increasing number of Americans more accepting of homosexuality and approving of gay marriage.

“Exodus is an institution in the conservative Christian world, but we’ve ceased to be a living, breathing organism," Alan Chambers, president of the ex-gay organization, posted on its website. “For quite some time we’ve been imprisoned in a worldview that’s neither honoring toward our felow human beings, nor biblical.”

Exodus International’s apology to gay people for causing them years of suffering constitutes a total about-face from the nonprofit’s original mission, its executive vice president [Randy Thomas] confirmed Wednesday.

“Providing help for people to turn from gay to straight is something we’ve distanced ourselves from,” Thomas said.

Chambers lived as a gay teenager and young adult, the Exodus website says, before choosing to pursue Christ over his same-sex attraction (SSA). He is now married and has two children, but he told The Christian Post last year that he still struggles with SSA at times. He also said he doesn't think the idea of curing such attractions through therapy is a biblical message, which is why Exodus has "shied away from it."

"Christians in the body of Christ, we have overemphasized complete resolution and complete change for this issue but not for others ... and I don't think we're telling anybody else with any other type of struggle that they have to ... never be tempted in that area again in order to be a good Christian," he told CP at the time.

Mr. Thomas, the no. 3 person at Exodus, adds that believers who continue to pray to God “Forgive us our sins” engage in “a self-righteous ritual” and “deny the righteousness of Christ that is already present.”

Gay Star Goes Straight -to the Bible; Media Silent

When someone in the public eye announces "I'm gay," the mainstream media blasts the story ad nauseam, but when the news is a renouncement of the homosexual lifestyle, and even a turn to God (the author of sexuality), we hear . . . crickets!

Not even ONE mainstream media news outlet is reporting this one -- just a single, local newspaper. Of course, the homosexualists are denouncing the Gay Agenda traitor from the rooftops.

-- From "YouTube sensation Antoine Dodson confirms: He's leaving the gay life, wants a wife" by Pat Ammons, The Birmingham News 5/3/13

The latest brush with national news came Thursday when Dodson posted a declaration on his Facebook page that, " I have to renounce myself, I'm no longer into homosexuality I want a wife and family, I want to multiply and raise and love my family that I create." In a Friday interview with al.com, Dodson said, "A light just came on in my mind," leading him to decide that he no longer wanted to be gay.

[Dodson's 2010 YouTube video,] The "Bed Intruder Song" went viral with more than 114 million views.

Dodson has since popped up in the public eye for various things, including his July 2012 defense of Chik-fil-A owner President Dan Cathy for saying he supported the Biblical definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman. Dodson, who confirmed he was gay at the time, said he supported Cathy's right to say what he believed and that Dodson would continue to eat the chain's chicken sandwiches.

Dodson, who grew up in Chicago, said he "came out of the closet" when he was 14 or 15 but had been teased about being a homosexual from the time he was little. "My family always said I had feminine ways," he said. He said his father was never in his life and that he lacked any positive male role models. That along with several sexual assaults "more and more pushed me into being gay."

Dodson's declaration that he is no longer gay comes from a religious conversion. He has been reading the Bible, he said, and learning about the Hebrew Israelites, who he said are the descendants of the tribe of Judah, one of the 12 tribes of Israel.

Just as California government outlaws allowing homosexuals to obtain counseling from psychologists to reduce same-sex attraction, a new survey shows that 55% of those seeking such counseling saw the frequency and intensity of their deviant sexual desires diminish.

The survey was conducted by People Can Change, an international nonprofit organization of men who have successfully transitioned away from unwanted homosexuality who now support others seeking similar change.

The People Can Change survey found other reported outcomes from counseling were:
•53% of respondents said their unwanted homosexual behaviors were reduced or eliminated
•38% said heterosexual attractions emerged or increased
•58% said any remaining homosexual attractions became less troubling
•69% said their self-esteem improved
•69% said their shame diminished
•71% became more self-accepting
•66% felt more at peace
. . . Among respondents who had experienced serious suicidal thoughts at one time, 76% said that as a result of the counseling, those thoughts became either much less (60%) or somewhat less (16%) serious and frequent. In comparison, 11% said their suicidal thoughts increased.

Maryland School Yields to Gay Agenda Demands

After complaints that students at Montgomery Blair High School may learn that homosexual behavior is a choice, rather than "innate" as taught in the sex education curriculum for the past few years, the Montgomery County school board barred non-profit organizations from distributing fliers.

-- From "School system changes its policy on backpack fliers" by Jen Bondeson, Staff Writer, Maryland Gazette 6/26/12

The Montgomery County Board of Education voted on Monday to change its policy on “backpack fliers.” Starting in the coming school year, nonprofits will not be allowed to have their fliers distributed to middle school and high school students.

The decision came on a recommendation of the school system’s policy committee, which was given the task of reviewing the policy after a flier sent home by Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays this school year provoked complaints from some school officials and gay rights advocates.

Laura Berthiaume (Dist. 2) of Rockville was the only board member to vote against the policy changes Monday, saying the change might negatively impact membership in nonprofits, such as Boy Scouts and youth leagues, and that changing the rules might hurt the school system’s community bond.

Under law, the school system is not able to pick which nonprofit’s fliers it sends home, so the system must allow all or none.

From "Montgomery school board bans nonprofits from distributing fliers at middle, high schools" by Michael Alison Chandler, Washington Post 6/26/12

The old policy permitted nonprofit groups to send fliers home with middle and high school students four times a year, unless the message was considered hate speech. The right was upheld in federal court several years ago, after a religious group sued the school system for refusing to distribute fliers promoting its after-school Bible study programs.

Debate over the district’s flier program was renewed in February after Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays, a Virginia-based group, distributed fliers to five high schools with the message that homosexuality is not innate and that gay people can change their identities. PFOX has been distributing fliers in Montgomery schools for several years.

Many students and educators, including Schools Superintendent Joshua P. Starr, protested the message, calling it intolerant and potentially harmful to gay students.

Starr said Monday that it was important to rethink the policy. “We have to confront and be very sensitive to the health and well-being of our LGBT students.”

From "Homosexual Activists Want to Censor Ex-'Gay' Message" by Jim Brown, American Family Radio News - AgapePress

The handout distributed by [PFOX] states its belief "in unconditional love for family members with same-sex attractions" and its goal of seeking "to eliminate prejudice and discrimination against former homosexuals." PFOX executive director Regina Griggs says those who are raising angry objections to the flyer distribution are demonstrating intolerance. Also, she feels they are obstructing a legitimate effort to provide young people with certain facts about homosexuality.

These pro-homosexual tolerance and diversity advocates generally "see ex-gays as nonexistent," the PFOX official contends. And when former homosexuals are introduced to society, she says, many homosexual activists become afraid that this "confuses the public and may actually be a deterrent to gay marriage and other civil rights that they believe they deserve."

Last year, PFOX won a lawsuit challenging Montgomery County's sexual education curriculum. In that case, a federal judge ordered the school system to toss out the biased, pro-homosexuality curriculum that made derogatory comments about Christian views on homosexual behavior.

Homosexuals Can Change, Says Jewish Experts

Orthodox rabbis, mental health professionals, and other leaders have jointly declared that homosexual behavior is prohibited and that so-called sexual orientation can be healed with proper therapy. The formal declaration was made in an effort to counter secular propaganda aimed at normalizing homosexual behavior.
"The concept that G-d created a human being who is unable to find happiness in a loving relationship unless he violates a biblical prohibition is neither plausible nor acceptable."
-- Declaration on the Torah Approach to Homosexuality
For background, read Homosexuality NOT Fixed, Change Possible: Study and also read Lesbianism NOT Genetic: Study as well as Psychologists Suggest Homosexuals Change Religious Affiliation

-- From "Rabbonim OK Therapeutic Approach to Homosexuality" by Hana Levi Julian, MSW, LCSW-R, Arutz Sheva (Israel National News) 12/28/11

A coalition of more than 150 Orthodox rabbis, community leaders, organizers and respected mental health professionals have given an historic stamp of approval to a document entitled a "Declaration on the Torah Approach to Homosexuality."

The treatment recommended in the statement is reparative or gender-affirming therapy . . .

The statement -- which goes out of its way to caution against castigation of the individual and notes "They deserve our full love, support and encouragement in their striving towards healing" -- is likely to be met with a storm of protest both in Israel and abroad.

The Declaration, written by a 25-member committee of rabbis, parents, "strugglers" currently in therapy and "success stories" -- those who completed therapy and today are living heterosexual lives, many with spouses and children, belies those claims.

From "Declaration On The Torah Approach To Homosexuality"

The Torah makes a clear statement that homosexuality is not an acceptable lifestyle or a genuine identity by severely prohibiting its conduct.

From a Torah perspective, the question whether homosexual inclinations and behaviors are changeable is extremely relevant. The concept that G-d created a human being who is unable to find happiness in a loving relationship unless he violates a biblical prohibition is neither plausible nor acceptable. G-d is loving and merciful. Struggles, and yes, difficult struggles, along with healing and personal growth are part and parcel of this world. Impossible, life long, Torah prohibited situations with no achievable solutions are not.

We emphatically reject the notion that a homosexually inclined person cannot overcome his or her inclination and desire. Behaviors are changeable. The Torah does not forbid something which is impossible to avoid. Abandoning people to lifelong loneliness and despair by denying all hope of overcoming and healing their same-sex attraction is heartlessly cruel.

The only viable course of action that is consistent with the Torah is therapy and teshuvah. The therapy consists of reinforcing the natural gender-identity of the individual by helping him or her understand and repair the emotional wounds that led to its disorientation and weakening, thus enabling the resumption and completion of the individual’s emotional development. Teshuvah is a Torah-mandated, self-motivated process of turning away from any transgression or sin and returning to G-d and one’s spiritual essence. This includes refining and reintegrating the personality and allowing it to grow in a healthy and wholesome manner.

The key point to remember is that these individuals are primarily innocent victims of childhood emotional wounds. They deserve our full love, support and encouragement in their striving towards healing. Struggling individuals who seek health and wellness should not be confused with the homosexual movement and their agenda. This distinction is crucial. It reflects the difference between what G-d asks from all of us and what He unambiguously prohibits.

Among the signers who have chosen to go public with their endorsement of the position are psychologist and author Dr. Miriam Adaham of Jerusalem; Rabbi Simcha Feuerman, president of the International Network of Orthodox Mental Health Professions; Los Angeles psychiatrist and author Dr. Miriam Grossman; Dr. Joseph Gelbfish of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Rabbi Yaakov Salomon, psychotherapist and author; Rabbi Steven Pruzansky, a vice president of the Rabbinical Council of America and dozens more.

It contradicts a statement from 2010 signed by Orthodox rabbis who believed, "Jews with homosexual orientations or same sex-attractions should be welcomed as full members of the synagogue and school community. As appropriate with regard to gender and lineage, they should participate and count ritually, be eligible for ritual synagogue honors, and generally be treated in the same fashion and under the same halakhic and hashkafic framework as any other member of the synagogue they join."

The 2010 statement also rejected the idea of therapy to heal homosexuality, but the new declaration takes the opposite position.

Homosexuality NOT Fixed, Change Possible: Study

Many people who work in the field of psychology argue against the idea that a person can change their sexual orientation. [The study showing change is possible has] been challenged by other researchers who say that the bulk of the existing evidence indicates that sexual orientation does not change. Gay advocacy blogs have also disputed the findings.

The American Psychological Association declared in 2005 that homosexuality was not changeable. The association had also stated that there was no evidence that conversion or reparative therapy aimed at changing sexual orientation was safe or effective.

Eli Coleman, professor and director of Human Sexuality at the University of Minnesota Medical School was skeptical about the [new] findings.

“We’ve been through this over and over,” he said. “You can get behavioral changes, but that’s not orientation change. You can get short-term behavioral change. It’s not sustained.”

"I don’t think we have anything really new here," said Coleman. "We have known for sometime that some people are able to shift their behavior and their perception of their sexual identity through these attempts at conversion."

The study, conducted by psychologists Stanton L. Jones of Wheaton College and Mark A. Yarhouse of Regent University, examined changes in homosexuals who sought the help of Exodus International in trying to change their sexual orientation.

Twenty-three percent reported a successful “conversion” to heterosexual orientation, while 30 percent reported “stable behavioral chastity.” Twenty percent of the subjects, however, gave up on changing and fully embraced the gay identity.

"Our study ... does not prove that everyone can change,” Jones said in an interview with The Christian Post on Friday. “It just proves that the reality is very, very complicated, and there seems to be some capacity for some people to shift their sexual orientation in a way that has personal meaning to them."

Candace Chellew-Hodge, the founder of Whosoever, an Online Magazine for GLBT [homosexual] Christians, found firstly that the research was “suspect” as the researchers are from conservative Christian colleges. He showed his concern also for their conclusions being "overly optimistic."

Chellew-Hodge criticized the methodology saying the sample size was small and claimed that the results came from fear of the subjects. He said, “The single greatest motivator for these 98 subjects however most certainly was a fear-based one. In short, they were all living under the threat of hell.”

Jones responded to those, including the American Psychological Association (APA), who said that sexual orientation could not be changed, that no such research exists, and he wants to bring up that change is certainly possible.

“We were trying to address the basic question ‘Is change possible?’ The fact that anyone changed is what came out of this study,” he said.

The annual event draws tens of thousands of viewers via satellite. Past speakers have included former President Bill Clinton, GE’s Jack Welch and rock singer Bono.

The petition at Change.org accused the megachurch of “anti-gay persecution” over Willow Creek’s past relationship with Exodus International, a Christian ministry that offers to help gays and lesbians change their sexual orientation. Willow Creek cut ties with Exodus in 2009, church spokeswoman Susan DeLay said.

From "Willow Creek Mega-Church Cuts Ties With Exodus Outreach to 'Gays'" by Dave Bohon, The New American 7/25/11

Willow Creek officials said the move has more to do with the church’s overall ministry approach than to a change in its view on homosexuality, which has been traditionally viewed by Christians as sinful. . . .

While Willow Creek made the decision to sever its relationship with Exodus in 2009, the decision became widely known only in June. . . .

. . . Alan Chambers, president of Exodus International, said that Willow Creek’s move reflected an emerging tendency among some evangelicals to shy away from dealing with controversial issues. . . .

Throughout the 1980s and ’90s, Exodus enjoyed a close ministry relationship with Willow Creek . . .

But that all changed after Willow Creek’s head pastor, Bill Hybels, agreed to a meeting in 2008 with members of SoulForce, a homosexual activist group that specifically targets churches and Christian organizations. According to the Chicago Tribune, Hybels was one of the nation’s few mega-church pastors who had agreed to meet with the homosexual group. Others, including Joel Osteen, pastor of the massive Lakewood Church in Houston, did not respond to SoulForce’s request for a sit-down.

From "Willow Creek Drops Exodus International, 'Ex-Gay' Ministry" by Rev. Dr. Cindi Love, Executive Director, Soulforce - Huffington Post 7/22/11

Today is a red letter day at Soulforce, where I work. We practice relentless nonviolent resistance to religious oppression of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, their families and allies. One of the organizations with whom we have worked, Willow Creek Community Church, has finally ended its formal relationship with Exodus International.

In 2008-2009, Soulforce was on the Willow Creek campus to meet with Pastor Bill Hybels to encourage his congregation to cease its prominent partnership with Exodus, which included "equipping events" at the church to help Willow Creek leaders and other local pastors work with those experiencing same-sex attraction.

Those of us who long for the Church Universal to equip its saints in the walk of peace and justice and inclusion are celebrating today that Willow Creek has found a door in the wall of religious bigotry and walked through it in such a public way.

Thank you, Pastor Bill. Thank you, Willow Creek Elders and Congregants. May the movement of the Holy Spirit continue within your community and one day may we all share a meal at the same Table of Grace.

From "Willow Creek Church Is Not Anti-Gay, Pastor Clarifies" by Alex Murashko, Christian Post Reporter 8/12/11

. . . Pastor Bill Hybels said on the first day of the annual Willow Creek Leadership Summit . . . “In the last seven days an online petition started to boycott Starbucks if Howard Schultz did not cancel his signed contract to this event. The issue driving this petition, which so far has been signed by 717 people, is homosexuality. The petition claims that Willow Creek Community Church is anti-gay. Therefore, if the president of Starbucks speaks here then Starbucks should be boycotted, or so the thinking goes.”

“The mat at every door on this campus has always read ‘welcome.’ . . . So, to suggest that we check sexual orientation or any other kind of issue at our doors is simply not true. Just ask the hundreds of people with same-sex attraction who attend our church every week.”

The senior pastor went on to clarify the church’s stance on homosexuality.

“Now, what is true is that we challenge homosexuals and heterosexuals to live out the sexual ethics taught in the scriptures which encourages full sexual expression between a man and a woman in the context of marriage and prescribes sexual abstinence and purity for everybody else.”

Bachmann Believes Jesus Saves Us from Sin

In a supposed block-buster investigative report, ABC News has exposed presidential candidate Michele Bachmann's family business (her husband's Christian marriage counseling) as encouraging clients to pray to Jesus Christ that they be freed of sin, including homosexual behavior.

-- From "Michele Bachmann's clinic accused of trying to straighten out gays" by Andrew Malcolm, Los Angeles Times 7/11/11

A clinic owned by GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann and her husband, Marcus, is being accused of telling homosexuals that they can "pray away the gay."

Andrew Ramirez was a patient at Bachmann & Associates, a Christian counseling clinic in Lake Elmo, Minn., in 2004. He claims he was told by one of the clinic's counselors that if he read the Bible and prayed to God, he "would no longer be gay," according to ABC News.

Ramirez told the Nation that the therapist tried to "cure" him of his homosexuality. “He basically said being gay was not an acceptable lifestyle in God’s eyes,” and offered the assistance of an ex-lesbian as a mentor, Ramirez said.

Bachmann is no stranger to anti-gay rhetoric. Her strategist-husband last year said homosexuals were barbarians who needed to be disciplined.

The questions about Michele Bachmann's husband's crisis clinic - and reports its services including helping to "cure" homosexuals - went mainstream tonight, with an ABC News story featuring undercover video shot of one of the center's counselors saying it's "possible" to be "totally free" of such feelings.

The reports - denied repeatedly by the Bachmanns - have been circulating for years. But the ABC News story included undercover video of a counselor shot by a member of the advocacy group "Truth Wins Out."

The report is the latest in a string of headlines about Bachmann, whose record is relatively unvetted by the national press, amid a quick ascent in the polls.

From "‘God Has Created You for Heterosexuality’: Clinics Owned by Michele Bachmann’s Husband Practice Ex-Gay Therapy" by Mariah Blake, The Nation 7/8/11

As Republican presidential contender Michele Bachmann has surged in the polls, the spotlight has turned on her husband and main political adviser, Marcus Bachmann, who has a PhD in clinical psychology and owns two Christian counseling centers in Minnesota. There has been a great deal of speculation that his clinics, which have received $161,000 in state and federal funding, try to cure homosexuality—and the chatter has only grown louder since his comments likening gays to “barbarians” who “need to be educated” and “disciplined” surfaced in the blogosphere last week. Marcus Bachmann has denied these allegations. “That’s a false statement,” he replied when the Minneapolis City Pages asked if his clinic tried to cure gays. And until now there was no firm evidence to back these allegations up. But information obtained by The Nation suggests that Bachmann & Associates therapists do, in fact, try to change sexual orientation. It also sheds new light on the Bachmanns’ embrace of the controversial ex-gay movement and related psychological approaches, which portray homosexuality as a disease to be rooted out.

Some of the most potent material was provided by Truth Wins Out, a gay rights group that opposes the ex-gay movement. In late June, a Truth Wins Out activist named John Becker donned two hidden cameras—one embedded in a wristwatch—and attended five treatment sessions at Bachmann’s Lake Elmo clinic. Becker, who is openly gay, presented himself as a committed Christian who was struggling with homosexuality. The video he collected seems to confirm Ramirez’s allegations that staff members at Bachmann & Associates try to change sexual orientation. Becker’s therapist (another of Marcus Bachmann’s employees) repeatedly assured him that homosexuality could be overcome.

Both Bachmann & Associates and the Bachmann campaign declined to comment for this story, though in the past Marcus Bachmann has insisted his clinics don’t push people to change their sexual orientation. “If someone comes in a homosexual and they want to stay a homosexual, I don’t have a problem with that,” he told the Minneapolis City Pages. Nevertheless, the techniques the therapist at his Lake Elmo clinic used were typical of so-called reparative therapies, which cast homosexuality as a mental disorder and see conversion to heterosexuality as the only healthy outcome. “The explicit goal of the sessions was transforming Becker from homosexual to heterosexual,” says Wayne Besen, Truth Wins Out’s executive director.

Christian Censorship Demanded for iPhone

Now that Apple Inc. has, upon request, permanently banned a Christian app for the popular iPhone, homosexualists are again asking Apple Inc. to ban an app from Exodus International, an organization advocating abstinence of homosexual behavior through Christ.

UPDATE 3/23/11: Apple Bans Exodus iPhone App

-- From "'Ex-gay' ministry launches app" by Ron Hughes, Gay News Network 3/14/11

The move has caused concern among LGBTI advocates, who see Exodus' activities as adding to discrimination and the stigmatisation of LGBTI people.

ACON CEO Nicolas Parkhill told SX the organisation was concerned because negative attitudes to homosexuality impacted greatly on the health and well-being LGBTI people.

"For many years now, research and evidence has been widely available showing that being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender is a normal state of mental health and social adjustment," Parkhill said.

From "Gay Activists Petition Apple to Remove Exodus App" by Jennifer Riley, Christian Post Reporter 3/12/11

Exodus International, which bills itself as the world’s largest Christian ministry dealing with homosexual issues, reported that a petition by the LGBT [homosexual] rights group Truth Wins Out on Change.org is quickly gaining support. In less than 24 hours, the petition was able to gather more than 1,300 signatures.

Truth Wins Out contends that the app conveys the ministry’s “hateful and bigoted” message.

Critics of Exodus also blasted the ministry’s use of reparative therapy, calling it “bad medicine” and “very damaging” to the self-esteem and mental health of people struggling with same-sex attraction.

The ministry had released its new iPhone app on Tuesday. The app received a 4+ rating from Apple, which means that it contains “no objectionable content.”

"We saw the app as another opportunity to reach the world -- to reach a larger demographic with our message," Jeff Buchanan, senior director of church equipping and student ministries for Exodus, told Baptist Press. "And based on a small group of activists being very vocal about their disagreement with Exodus and its message, we fear that Apple will censor our ability to be able to get our message out."

The app is needed, Buchanan said, to reach out to those struggling with same-sex attractions. He once was among those struggling with his feelings. Saved at the age of 13, he said he had same-sex attractions as a teenager but heard a "very condemning message" from his church.

"So I didn't tell anyone. I entered into a three-year same-sex relationship in my mid-20s and really felt the conviction of the Lord to turn away from that. I began the process of walking out of that in 1991," said Buchanan, who married his wife Angela in 2003.

Cure for Homosexuality? Calif. Doesn't Want to Know

California lawmakers narrowly advanced a bill Tuesday that would repeal a state law designed to find the causes and cures of homosexuality.

UPDATE 8/26/10: Repeal goes to Gov.; Assemblywoman compares to racial discrimination

-- From "Calif. considers repealing law to study, cure gays" by Cathy Bussewitz, Associated Press 4/7/10

The law, written in 1950, classifies homosexuals as "sexual deviants" and requires the state Department of Mental Health to conduct research on "deviations conducive to sex crimes against children." The research would be used to help identify potential sex offenders.

. . . California has not conducted research into homosexuality for decades, but did release several reports that examined hormone levels, physical characteristics and parental relationships of its subjects.

The American Psychiatric Association listed homosexuality as a mental disorder until 1973.

. . . Parents and Friends of ExGays and Gays, also known as PFOX, sent a letter to [the Legislature] stating that research into the causes of homosexuality is a legitimate form of science that benefits both ex-gay and gay communities.

[Jeralee Smith, the PFOX California Educational Director,] believes research into the causes and cures of homosexuality should be continued, and called the move to end funding offensive.

Smith said she was molested by a woman when she was 16. She added that she spent most of her life in same-sex relationships, found it very painful, and later reoriented her thought patterns to what she called healthier ways.

Gay Agenda of the American Library Association Documented

Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays (PFOX) says there's an entire community of people across the world who say that their sexual orientation changed from gay to straight. But they're not getting their message out, the group says, because libraries across the country refuse to carry literature that describes these experiences or any studies that support them.

-- From "Libraries Should Include Ex-Gay Books, Group Says" by Matt Bartosik, posted at NBC Chicago 10/23/09

"According to Deborah Caldwell-Stone, director of the [American Library Association's] Office for Intellectual Freedom, ALA policy recommends diversity in book collection development by libraries, regardless of partisan or doctrinal disapproval. However, Caldwell-Stone refuses to state whether that diversity policy includes ex-gay books," PFOX executive director Regina Griggs said in a press release.

"Books about leaving homosexuality are censored in most high school libraries, although gay-affirming books for youth are readily available," she continued.

However, the American Psychological Association, along with most mainstream medical groups, has said that mental health professionals and parents should avoid telling young people that they can change their sexual orientation.

In 2008, the American Psychological Association, American Psychiatric Association, and National Association of Social Workers stated in an amicus brief to the Supreme Court of California:

"Sexual orientation has proved to be generally impervious to interventions intended to change it, which are sometimes referred to as 'reparative therapy.' No scientifically adequate research has shown that such interventions are effective or safe."

From "Gay Reversal Advocates Say School Libraries Banning Their 'Ex-Gay' Books" by Diane Macedo, FOX News 10/22/09

. . . a book like "My Genes Made Me Do It!: A Scientific Look at Sexual Orientation" — which argues that sexuality is shaped by a variety of factors, not just biological — can't get a spot on the school library shelf.

Neither can "You Don't Have to Be Gay," which describes author Jeff Konrad's struggle to overcome his unwanted same-sex attractions.

But "Baby Be-Bop," the coming-out story of a gay teen, which includes descriptions of his sexual encounters in bathroom stalls with men he never talks to, makes the stacks.

So does "Love & Sex: Ten Stories of Truth," which describes a gay teen's relationship with his tutor with excerpts like: "Matt had one leg locked between mine, so that his d—- was smashed between his stomach and my thigh. And as his hand jerked up and down on me his hips humped with the same rhythm."

Calls from Foxnews.com to Caldwell-Stone were directed to American Library Association Media Relations Manager Macey Morales, who asked for more information about PFOX's allegations and then failed to return follow-up e-mails and phone calls.

D.C. Ruling: Ex-gays Protected by Human Rights Act

The Superior Court of the District of Columbia has ruled that former homosexuals must be recognized under the sexual orientation non-discrimination laws. . . . sexual orientation does not require unchanging characteristics.

-- From "'Ex-Gays' Protected Under D.C. Human Rights Act, Judge Rules" posted by Amanda Hess at (pro-homosexual) Washington City Paper 8/25/09

In 2002, Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays (PFOX) applied for an exhibit booth at the National Education Association’s annual convention, “Expo 2002.” PFOX submitted an application, signed a deposit check, and prepared its exhibit: an educational display, it claims, “to promote tolerance and equality for the ex-gay community.” The NEA denied PFOX’s application, citing limited booth space. PFOX suspected there was another motive at play: sexual orientation discrimination.

In 2005, POX filed a discrimination claim with the D.C. Office of Human Rights against the NEA for “refusing to provide public accommodations to ex-gays.” When the D.C. Office of Human Rights sided with the NEA, PFOX appealed the decision to D.C. Superior Court. Judge Maurice Ross handed down the decision in June of this year: PFOX’s request to reverse the OHR’s decision was denied.
But Ross’s decision wasn’t a total loss for PFOX: While Ross decided in the NEA’s favor, he also held that ex-gays do, in fact, constitute a protected group under the D.C. Human Rights Act. Judging from PFOX’s eerily celebratory press release, this is kind of a big deal for them.

According to Ross’s decision, the Human Rights Act doesn’t only protect groups defined by “immutable characteristics,” as the Office of Human Rights’ decision claimed. The Act also protects groups defined by “preference or practice” —like people who previously “practiced” gayness, and now “prefer” to practice heterosexuality:

OHR’s determination that a characteristic must be immutable to be protected under the HRA is clearly erroneous as a matter of law. . . . Indeed, the HRA lists numerous protected categories such as religion, personal appearance, familial status, and source of income, which are subject to change. . . . Pertaining to sexual orientation, moreover, the HRA in §2-1401.02(28) defines sexual orientation as “male or female homosexuality, heterosexuality and bisexuality, by preference or practice.” Thus, the HRA’s intent and plain language eschews narrow interpretation.

"By failing to protect former homosexuals, the sexual orientation laws gave more rights to homosexuals than heterosexuals who were once gay," [said Regina Griggs, executive director of PFOX] in a statement. Psychologists Suggest Homosexuals Change Churches

The American Psychological Association (APA), at its annual convention today, issued a statement recommending that health professionals not suggest to homosexual clients that they might achieve opposite attractions, but rather that, if they are Christian, they should seek a church that endorses their homosexual behavior.

-- From "Psychologists repudiate gay-to-straight therapy" by David Crary, Associated Press 8/5/09

In a resolution adopted by the APA's governing council, and in an accompanying report, the association issued its most comprehensive repudiation of "reparative therapy" — a concept espoused by a small but persistent group of therapists, often allied with religious conservatives, who maintain gays can change.

No solid evidence exists that such change is likely, says the resolution, adopted by a 125-4 vote. The APA said some research suggests that efforts to produce change could be harmful, inducing depression and suicidal tendencies.

Instead of seeking such change, the APA urged therapists to consider multiple options — that could range from celibacy to switching churches — for helping clients live spiritually rewarding lives in instances where their sexual orientation and religious faith conflict.

The APA had criticized reparative therapy in the past, but a six-member task force added weight to this position by examining 83 studies on sexual orientation change conducted since 1960. Its report was endorsed by the APA's governing council in Toronto, where the 150,000-member association's annual meeting is being held this weekend.

"Practitioners can assist clients through therapies that do not attempt to change sexual orientation, but rather involve acceptance, support and identity exploration and development without imposing a specific identity outcome," the report says.

The APA task force took as a starting point the belief that homosexuality is a normal variant of human sexuality, not a disorder, and that it nonetheless remains stigmatized in ways that can have negative consequences.

Exodus International, the largest worldwide ministry to those in conflict with their sexuality and faith, says this report acknowledges religious diversity and hopes to see more efforts to ensure this in the future.

While Exodus does not fully agree with the APA's criticisms of clinical techniques such as reparative therapy and its view of sexual orientation change, the report does recognize that some choose to live their lives in congruence with religious values. The report also encourages therapists to avoid imposing a specific outcome on clients.

Alan Chambers, President of Exodus International, says that not only is faith is an essential part of life for many gay men and women, it is almost always the motivating factor behind their decision to leave it behind and that many in Exodus have experienced a shift in attractions along the way. Chambers just released his second book, Leaving Homosexuality, which clarifies realistic expectations involved in this process.

American Psychological Association Considers Ban on Reparative Therapy

If this goes through does this leave Christian counselors and therapists in danger of losing their licenses for helping people to overcome homosexual behavior? If so, Lord help us to stand...

From "Psychologists to Review Stance on GaysThe American Psychological Association" by David Crary, posted at TIME.com

The American Psychological Association is embarking on the first review of its 10-year-old policy on counseling gays and lesbians, a step that gay-rights activists hope will end with a denunciation of any attempt by therapists to change sexual orientation.

Such efforts — often called reparative therapy or conversion therapy — are considered futile and harmful by many gay-rights activists. Conservative groups defend the right to offer such treatment, and say people with their viewpoint have been excluded from the review panel. A six-member task force set up by the APA has its first meeting beginning next Tuesday.

Already, scores of conservative religious leaders and counselors, representing such groups as the Southern Baptist Convention and Focus on the Family, have written a joint letter to the APA, expressing concern that the task force's proposals would not properly accommodate gays and lesbians whose religious beliefs condemn gay sex. "We believe that psychologists should assist clients to develop lives that they value, even if that means they decline to identify as homosexual," said the letter, which requested a meeting between APA leaders and some of the signatories.

APA spokeswoman Rhea Farberman said a decision on when and how to reply to the letter had not yet been made. The current APA policy, adopted in 1997, opposes any counseling that treats homosexuality as a mental illness, but does not explicitly denounce reparative therapy. The APA has decided to review the policy at a time when gay-rights groups are increasingly critical of such treatment and groups that support it.

Conservatives contend that the review's outcome is preordained because the task force is dominated by gay-rights supporters. "We're concerned," said Carrie Gordon Earll of Focus on the Family. "The APA does not have a good track record of listening to other views."

...Clinton Anderson, director of the APA's Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Concerns Office, insisted the panel would base its findings on scientific research, not ideology. He defended the decision to reject certain conservative applicants to the task force. "We cannot take into account what are fundamentally negative religious perceptions of homosexuality — they don't fit into our world view," Anderson said.

Of course. Nothing but complete approval and encouragement of homosexuality WOULD fit into this man's worldview.

However, one of the task force members, New York City psychiatrist Jack Drescher, said the conservatives don't acknowledge the harm that might be caused when a gay patient — even voluntarily — undergoes therapy to suppress or change sexual orientation. "They want a rubber stamp of approval for a form of therapy that's questionable in its efficacy and they don't want to deal with the issue of harmful side effects," said Drescher, who is editor of the Journal of Gay and Lesbian Psychotherapy.

Living according to the truth is NOT harmful. Chastity PROTECTS us. On the other hand, the disease, injury, infection, radical promiscuity, depression and early mortality that seems to plague homosexual people would indicate that homosexual behavior IS harmful.

Current APA policy stipulates that no therapy should occur without "informed consent" of a gay or lesbian client. Jason Cianciotto of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force said he hoped the APA would declare that no young person could ever be deemed to have given informed consent, and thus no reparative therapy would be approved for minors.

It is quite interesting that having the complete freedom to pursue this behavior is NOT enough for gay activists. NO ONE must be ALLOWED to overcome homosexual desire - even if they want to. Indeed, NO ONE should even be allowed to know it is possible...
