Organizers [of The Selma Project] said they have evidence that the [Central Alabama Women's Clinic] performs more than nine abortions monthly, which would require it to come under strict state regulations as an abortion clinic.

Individuals working with abortion opponents repeatedly called the office without identifying themselves and scheduled appointments for abortion procedures, activists said. Audio clips of some phone calls were previously made public by abortion opponents.

While doctor's offices are required to report the number of abortions they perform to the state, those reports are not public.

Dr. Samuel C. Lett, who operates the clinic, did not return a phone message seeking comment.

Brian Hale, who serves as general counsel for the ADPH, responded to an email request for comment Saturday afternoon.

“ADPH did receive and investigate a complaint alleging that this clinic was performing a number of abortions that would require it to be licensed by this agency as an abortion or reproductive health center,” Hale’s statement said. “State Board of Health regulations require a license when a facility performs 10 or more abortions in any month, or 100 or more in any calendar year. ADPH was unable to establish that this clinic performed a number of abortions that would require it to be licensed as an abortion or reproductive health center. State law — § 22-9A-13, Ala. Code 1975 — prohibits ADPH from disclosing information relating to the number of abortions performed by a physician.”

Alveda King, the niece of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was among those who marched across the bridge in protest Saturday. She said some have accused the protesters of using Selma for national attention after Oprah Winfrey’s movie “Selma” and President Barack Obama visited the city earlier this year. King said that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Anti-abortion activists are focusing their attention on Selma and a clinic they say is violating state laws. A coalition of pro-life ministries from all over the country made their way to the historic city Friday night, gathering at Christ the King Episcopal Church.

“We know that women have been injured in this clinic. We know for sure [Dr. Samuel Lett] scheduled more abortions than he's allowed to do, according to state law,” said Father Terry Gensemer, Director of CEC For Life and an urban pastor in Alabama for more than 20 years.

“We're here to say to the health department and to the nation that women, particularly black women, are targeted in this area, in Selma and that babies are being killed here. We want the city of Selma to know what's going on, we want the state of Alabama to know that its citizens are not being protected the Alabama Department of Public Health, and we want justice to be done for the victims of this doctor,” Fr. Gensemer added.

The ministers want lawmakers in Springfield to pass legislation to ensure the safety of all women. They say that includes making sure women are better informed of the risks of an abortion.

Tonya Reaves died at Northwestern July 20 [2012] after she began to hemorrhage at a Planned Parenthood clinic located at 18 S. Michigan Ave., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Reaves, of the 1500 block of North Kildare Avenue, was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m.

An autopsy found she died of a hemorrhage following a cervical dilation and evacuation performed during an intrauterine pregnancy, according to the medical examiner's office. Her death was ruled an accident.

Dorsey Johns, Reaves' mother, claims staff at the Planned Parenthood clinic "carelessly performed" the elective abortion and failed to properly monitor and assess her daughter's condition after the procedure, according to the suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court.

While the nation rages over the supposed “injustice” of the acquittal of George Zimmerman, a Hispanic man, in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, a Black teen, there has been no mention in the national press about Tonya’s brutal death at the hands of Planned Parenthood, even though Tonya was also an African-American whose life was ended by a blonde white abortionist named Mandy Gittler.

In fact, while Pres. Barack Obama was quick to jump in to the Trayvon Martin fray, noting that if he had a son, he’d look like Trayvon, Obama disrespected Tonya and her grieving family with comments in support of Planned Parenthood made during a campaign speech in Portland just days after her death.

We have to wonder how Mr. Obama would have felt if that had been Malia or Sasha bleeding to death on that abortion table. . . .

But recent polls have revealed a shift in African American attitudes, which could have implications for same-sex measures around the nation, including those in Minnesota, Maine and Washington state. Support for marriage rights from President Obama has contributed to a growing acceptance among blacks that parallels evolving attitudes in the population as a whole.

A Washington Post poll this month showed the measure ahead by nine percentage points, though a Baltimore Sun poll released last weekend showed it a dead heat. If approved, the law will go into effect on Jan. 1.

The line deftly combined a nod to King’s legacy with the suggestion that true freedom for African-Americans would involve shaking off their resilient attachment to the Democratic Party.

Asked for her view on Cain’s rise, the American Enterprise Institute’s Karlyn Bowman, a polling expert, said, “I don’t think it’s especially surprising. He’s a very strong, very likable candidate. Romney seems a little cold. Perry seems a little hot. The fact that Cain is black is really irrelevant.”

Obama Family Makes Rare Church Appearance

Since dropping membership from Jeremiah Wright's church in Chicago, the Obamas have been without a church home; however, to highlight the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, they paid a visit to the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church near the White House, where the pastor called on the first family to join a church family.

The Obamas were welcomed warmly when they arrived at Metropolitan AME Church. The several hundred congregants cheered loudly and one woman yelled "God bless you!"

After the choir sang several hymns, including "Lift Every Voice and Sing," often referred to as the Negro National Anthem, the congregation prayed and many yelled "Amen!" when the speaker mentioned the "people of Tucson, Ariz."

The Right Rev. Adam J. Richardson recognized the Obamas, thanked them for their leadership and also praised the president for his speech at the memorial service last week for the victims of the shooting in Tucson.

The congregation also sang "Happy Birthday" to the first lady, who turns 47 Monday.

“Homosexualist organizations have one goal that reigns supreme over all others: the eradication of the true moral belief that homosexual acts are profoundly immoral,” the news release continues, “and they are willing to exploit the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement in order to achieve their morally dubious and intellectually vacuous goal.”

The group, which largely consisted of African-Americans, gathered Monday to speak out and commune together at a luncheon. Most of the concerns shared were that of "deep concern" over legislation connecting gay rights to the civil rights movement – which helped secure voting rights and end the discrimination that was rampant in the south.

King, born into a family of reverends, pursued theology studies at Crozer Theological Seminary in 1948 and Boston University in 1955. Following his ordination, King served as assistant pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, his father's. After finishing his doctoral studies at BU, he became the pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Ala.

King accomplished all these things before he got involved in the fight for racial equality. As pastor of Dexter, he founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with three other ministers. King and others orchestrated civil right protests in Georgia and Alabama through the SCLC. In 1960, King returned to Ebenezer Baptist Church as co-pastor with his father until his death in 1968.

"Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a man of peace, justice, and most of all a man of God," Alveda King continued, suggesting that he would be working today to secure justice for those in the womb endangered by abortion.

State Senator Michael Noland (D-Elgin) continued by saying dishonestly that "We have come far on this issue of Civil Rights and today good men and woman on both sides of the aisle should be able to unite behind this very straightforward issue." This is dishonest in that the legalization of civil unions for homosexuals is anything but a "straight forward issue."

Both State Representative Careen Gordon (D-Morris) and openly homosexual State Representative Greg Harris (D-Chicago) further exploited the flawed analogy by comparing same sex marriage to interracial marriage. They are in essence saying that opposition to discrimination based on an immutable, non-behavioral, morally neutral condition like race is equivalent to homosexuals' fight to normalize and institutionalize deviant sexual relations. Rep. Gordon expressed a radical and heretical notion in her plea for civil unions, which is merely a more publicly palatable term for same sex marriages. She described the passage of the civil union bill as doing "God's work."

Civil Rights Movement for Unborn

Pro-life supporters held an anti-abortion rally in Birmingham on Saturday, calling for justice for the unborn. Hundreds convened at the Planned Parenthood on 27th Place South for the first-ever Pro-Life Freedom Ride. The Ride was the first convoy of its kind, carrying people from Birmingham to Atlanta to speak out against abortion.

Protesters say abortion is not a women’s issue or a religious issue. They say abortion is “a violation of civil rights of more than one million people every year.”

That is why they’re resurrecting the Freedom Rides from the 1960s, hoping to send a message: the unborn are denied inalienable rights.

Their hope is to eventually end abortion, if not through protest, then through prayer.

Iowa Rep. Exposes Congressional Socialist Gay Agenda

Same sex marriage is part of a socialist agenda to undermine "the foundations of individual rights and liberties," Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said Wednesday.

The conservative Iowan condemned his own state's Supreme Court for legalizing gay and lesbian weddings, and expressed concern that the U.S. Congress might repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which gives states the ability to refuse to recognize same sex marriages or civil unions in other states.

King told a conservative news radio program:

"If there's a push for a socialist society where the foundations of individual rights and liberties are undermined and everybody is thrown together living collectively off one pot of resources earned by everyone, this is one of the goals they have to go to, same sex marriage, because it has to plow through marriage in order to get to their goal. They want public affirmation, they want access to public funds and resources."

King also said that former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) was right to say that legal same sex marriages would open the door to legal polygamy or bestiality.

“We gather here today because we still have not reached that high place where the light of God’s freedom shines on the face of every last one of these children,” said Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), sponsor of the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act.

Franks, the ranking member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, joined with other participants at the press conference in pointing out that abortion disproportionately affects the black community. Thirty-six percent of abortions, they noted, are performed on black women, while blacks only make up 13 percent of the population.

Steve Mosher, president of the Population Research Institute, said there is mounting evidence that sex-selection abortions--which have resulted in the deaths of tens of millions of female babies in China where there is a one-child-per-couple population-control policy--are now becoming more common in the U.S.

“This is an issue that grieves the heart of America and I believe it grieves the heart of God,” said Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), who also attended the press conference. “This Congress condemned China for sex selection, but at the same time our country has no law prohibiting sex selective abortion.

Several pro-life activists from the black community, including Dr. Alveda King (niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.), spoke at the conference about how Planned Parenthood has targeted minorities by putting clinics in low-income neighborhoods. They also cited the acceptance of donations earmarked for the aborting of black babies by some Planned Parenthood representatives, as reported by a student publication at the University of California at Los Angeles.

. . . blacks are disproportionately impacted by abortion. Is Planned Parenthood deliberately acting to reduce the black population? Is it practicing a form of eugenics?

According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, a nonprofit organization focused on sexual and reproductive health research, 13 percent of the U.S. population is black, but 37 percent of all abortions are performed on black women. More than 10 million black babies have been aborted since 1973. Black women are 4.8 times as likely as white women to have an abortion. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also indicates that one out of every five white pregnancies ends in abortion, whereas one out of every two black pregnancies ends in abortion.

Fortunately, Miss [Alveda] King and others . . . are bringing attention to Planned Parenthood's deliberate focus on minority neighborhoods. One-third of all abortions performed by Planned Parenthood in 2007 were on blacks, and a majority of Planned Parenthood's clinics are in minority neighborhoods.

A recent video on YouTube showed a Planned Parenthood development director eagerly taking money specifically to be earmarked for the elimination of black children. One caller said he wanted to do this because there are "definitely too many black people in Ohio." And the receptionist simply said, "O.K." Similar incidents in seven other states have sparked a call for a congressional investigation of Planned Parenthood - and we concur.

Margaret Sanger, who founded what is now Planned Parenthood, wrote a letter in 1939 to Clarence Gamble, with whom she was partnering to promote birth control and abortions in the black community: "We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We do not want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."

. . . YouTube has decided to censor several audio recordings that had been posted by pro-life activists documenting the corporation's willingness to accept donations on the basis of race.

That's the word from Live Action Films, a pro-life student organization whose officials confirmed that not only did YouTube block four of their postings, YouTube has refused to respond to a request from Live Action to unblock the videos and explain the actions.

"It is discriminatory for YouTube to selectively censor material that clearly does not contain inappropriate content," said Live Action President Lila Rose, who also edits The Advocate, and whose work to document Planned Parenthood activities previously was reported by WND.

The posted recordings had generated wide interest from the national media, and Live Action Media Director David Schmidt said, "These four videos have received over 160,000 YouTube views in total with the oldest video having been public on YouTube for over seven months. Why are these videos being removed now?"

APA Issues Biased Report on Effects of Abortion

The American Psychological Association stacked a panel with abortion advocates to release a new report concluding that abortion causes no mental health problems for the mother; independent research concludes otherwise.

The panel's report concluded women who have abortions may experience some grief and a sense of loss, but it claimed there is no evidence showing abortion causes significant mental health issues.

The report also claimed that many of the studies concerning abortion and its link to subsequent mental health issues are flawed.

However, those studies, including a recent one from researchers in Norway, are published in peer-reviewed medical journals and none of them appeared to receive complaints about their methodology at the time.

A study earlier this month in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology found 30 percent of women who purchase the abortion drug mifepristone on the Internet experience depression and negative feelings accompanying the abortion.

The New Zealand study found that having an abortion as a young woman raises the risk of developing mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.

According to the study, women who have abortions were twice as likely to drink alcohol at dangerous levels and three times as likely to be addicted to illegal drugs.

Women who have had abortions, scientists, and pro-life advocates are joining forces to refute the findings of an American Psychological Association (APA) task force that claims women who have one abortion do not experience any more mental problems than women who decide to give birth.

“The APA should advocate a closer examination of the grief and warn women of the well-documented dangers (of abortion),” Theresa Burke, founder of Rachel’s Vineyard, a Christian recovery program for post-abortive women, said in response to the task force’s finding.

“Instead, the APA continues to censor information, de-legitimize research, prohibit opposing points of view, obstruct discussions, avoid scholarly debates and promote intolerance of those who are negatively impacted by abortion,” said Burke.

She added that most post-abortion women she has met say they have suffered irrevocable damage.

“The (APA) wants to say we are the exception to the rule … but for every one woman they can find that says they weren’t harmed by abortion … they could find 10 women who were,” said King.

“Racism lives at Planned Parenthood,” said Dr. Alveda King, pastoral associate of the group Priests for Life and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., during a rally on Monday.

“I say to my fellow NAACP members: It's time we tell the government to stop funding racism.

“Planned Parenthood will gladly accept donations for the specific purpose of aborting only black babies,” King said. “It locates its clinics in or near minority neighborhoods. It has led the way in eliminating African-Americans to the point where one-quarter of the black population is now missing because of abortion.”

King, who had two abortions before adopting a pro-life position, called on the nation's oldest civil rights organization to remember its mission statement: “To ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.”

“Planned Parenthood is anti-life,” she said, “and we are here to say enough is enough!"

Another speaker at the rally was Day Gardner, president of the National Black Pro-Life Union. She said that, “as a child, I thought the NAACP to be a super-hero organization; an organization that would fight racism right down to its very core.”

However, she stressed that NAACP leaders need to have their eyes opened to the racist agenda of Planned Parenthood – which results in black women being 4.8 times more likely to have an abortion than a white woman.

"We are here to rally the NAACP – to make our voices heard as we shout in unison – all across this great nation that the struggle is not yet over," she said. "The evil hand of racism is still at work in this country and living in the bowels of Planned Parenthood.”

Gardner also spoke about the federal tax dollars that go to Planned Parenthood and said it was time for Congress to end the funding.

Cultural Accommodation of Sin Results in the Greatest Suffering for All

Christians better wake up and speak up before we lose the religious freedom we so deeply value. In recent writing, Christian public speaker/author, Chuck Colson, and Georgetown University lesbian law professor Chai Feldblum, both make the same point: legalizing same-sex marriage will necessarily result in the loss of religious freedom for conservative people of faith. One has only to look at events in Canada and Great Britain and our own Massachusetts to confirm this awful truth.

I sadly find myself compelled to point out that we are selfish and irresponsible to bequeath to our children and our children's children the legacy of diminished religious and speech rights. The battle in which we find ourselves now will look like child's play compared to what our children will face a decade or two from now if we remain passive, fearful, ignorant, prideful, and apathetic.

Our concern must not be only about our rights, however. At least as great an injustice is being done to those who experience same-sex desire through no fault of their own and are being told, sometimes even by their church leadership, that there is no reason to resist those impulses. They are being told that sin is righteousness, and the great deceit here is that this heresy masquerades as compassion.

I am inspired and reproached by the impassioned and eloquent words of Martin Luther King Junior in "Letter From Birmingham Jail" who should remind us that cultural accommodation of sin results in greater suffering for all. The suffering of African Americans was unconscionably prolonged by the inaction of Christians who allowed fear, ignorance, pride, and apathy to determine their actions. Christians should have, instead, responded with courage to the still, small voice that surely told them that racial discrimination was evil.

Listen to the words of Dr. Martin Luther King in the following excerpts from “Letter From Birmingham Jail:”

One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. I would agree with St. Augustine that "an unjust law is no law at all."

Now, what is the difference between the two? How does one determine whether a law is just or unjust? A just law is a man-made code that squares with the moral law or the law of God. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law. To put it in the terms of St. Thomas Aquinas: An unjust law is a human law that is not rooted in eternal law and natural law. . . .

First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action". . .

Actually, we who engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive. We bring it out in the open, where it can be seen and dealt with. Like a boil that can never be cured so long as it is covered up but must be opened with an its ugliness to the natural medicines of air and light, injustice must be exposed, with all the tension its exposure creates, to the light of human conscience and the air of national opinion before it can be cured. . .

But though I was initially disappointed at being categorized as an extremist, as I continued to think about the matter I gradually gained a measure of satisfaction from the label. Was not Jesus an extremist for love: "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you." Was not Amos an extremist for justice: "Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream." Was not Paul an extremist for the Christian gospel: "I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus." Was not Martin Luther an extremist: "Here I stand; I cannot do otherwise, so help me God." And John Bunyan: "I will stay in jail to the end of my days before I make a butchery of my conscience." . . .

I had hoped that the white moderate would see this need. Perhaps I was too optimistic; perhaps I expected too much. I suppose I should have realized that few members of the oppressor race can understand the deep groans and passionate yearnings of the oppressed race, and still fewer have the vision to see that injustice must be rooted out by strong, persistent and determined action. . . .

I have been so greatly disappointed with the white church and its leadership. . . . too many others have been more cautious than courageous and have remained silent behind the anesthetizing security of stained-glass windows. . . . I have looked at the South's beautiful churches with their lofty spires pointing heavenward. I have beheld the impressive outlines of her massive religious-education buildings. Over and over I have found myself asking: "What kind of people worship here? Who is their God?. . .

I have heard many ministers say: "Those are social issues, with which the gospel has no real concern." And I have watched many churches commit themselves to a completely other worldly religion which makes a strange, non-biblical distinction between body and soul, between the sacred and the secular.

In deep disappointment, I have wept over the laxity of the church. . . . I see the church as the body of Christ. But, oh! How we have blemished and scarred that body through social neglect and through fear of being nonconformists.

There was a time when the church was very powerful in the time when the early Christians rejoiced at being deemed worthy to suffer for what they believed. In those days the church was not merely a thermometer that recorded the ideas and principles of popular opinion; it was a thermostat that transformed the mores of society. Whenever the early Christians entered a town, the people in power became disturbed and immediately sought to convict the Christians for being "disturbers of the peace" and "outside agitators"' But the Christians pressed on, in the conviction that they were "a colony of heaven," called to obey God rather than man. Small in number, they were big in commitment. They were too God intoxicated to be "astronomically intimidated." By their effort and example they brought an end to such ancient evils as infanticide. and gladiatorial contests.

Things are different now. So often the contemporary church is a weak, ineffectual voice with an uncertain sound. So often it is an archdefender of the status quo. Par from being disturbed by the presence of the church, the power structure of the average community is consoled by the church's silent and often even vocal sanction of things as they are.

But the judgment of God is upon the church as never before. If today's church does not recapture the sacrificial spirit of the early church, it will lose its authenticity, forfeit the loyalty of millions, and be dismissed as an irrelevant social club with no meaning for the twentieth century.
