Oral Sex Causes Head & Neck Cancer: HPV Study

A new highly-regarded study shows a 22-fold increased risk for incident oropharyngeal cancer, a head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), following evidence of human papillomavirus (HPV) in the mouth -- likely transmitted via oral sex.  Decades ago, such cancers were less common and assumed to be caused by smoking and drinking.

Dr. Ilir Agalliu and colleagues at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York looked at the records of more than 96,000 people taking part in a big medical study.

They all took a mouthwash test for oral HPV infection as part of the study. Four years later, 132 of them had developed some form of head and neck cancer. The researchers compared each patient with cancer to three similar people who didn't get it.

People infected with a strain called HPV-16 were between two and 22 times as likely to be in the cancer group, the team reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association's JAMA Oncology.

Experts believe 70 percent of all head and neck cancers are caused by HPV, likely spread by oral sex. According to experts, by 2020 head and neck cancer will beat out cervical cancer as the most common HPV-related cancer.

From "HPV16 in the Mouth Linked to Increased Risk for HNSCC" by Fran Lowry, Medscape 1/22/16

Dr Agalliu explained what prompted this study. "We had previously detected an unusually high prevalence of HPV types found on the skin and in skin cancers in the oral cavity, in addition to HPV16 and other high-risk types," he told Medscape Medical News.

"Moreover, there have been no prospective studies examining associations between oral HPVs and the subsequent risk of head and neck cancers," he pointed out.

The detection of HPV DNA in oral rinse specimens was associated with a 7.1-fold increase in the odds of incident HNSCC (95% confidence interval [CI], 2.2 - 22.6), after adjustment for smoking history and alcohol consumption.

However, oral DNA detection of other high-risk oncogenic HPV types, excluding HPV16, was not associated with the risk for HNSCC.

Doctors: Abortion Causes Breast Cancer—Media Silent

As liberal media continue to tout abortion industry claims to the contrary, the American College of Pediatricians is repeating its conclusive warning of the causal link of abortion to breast cancer, especially for adolescents. A 2013 study by Dr. Rebecca Johnson, Seattle Children’s Hospital cancer specialist, demonstrates “an increasing risk of breast cancer with each subsequent abortion,” but finds no evidence of increased breast cancer risk from miscarriage.

The [pediatricians group's] press release claims that "the medical community has been reluctant to acknowledge the link, induced abortion prior to a full term delivery, and prior to 32 weeks of gestation, increases the likelihood that a woman will develop breast cancer."

A study led by Dr. Johnson and her colleagues and published in Feb 2013 shows that incidence of metastatic breast cancer in young women aged 25 to 39 years has been increased in the U.S., according to the release.  Studies in China, India and Romania show that abortion is associated with risk of breast cancer in a “dose” responsive manner.

In the United States, about one third of pregnancies are terminated or aborted.

From "Know Your ABCs: The Abortion Breast Cancer Link" Press Release by The American College of Pediatricians 4/7/15

In February 2013, Dr. Johnson and her colleagues made national news when they reported an increased incidence of metastatic breast cancer in young women in the U.S. aged 25 – 39 years.  Other epidemiological studies from China, India, and Romania demonstrate an increasing incidence of breast cancer as abortions increased – with a “dose effect” showing an increasing risk of breast cancer with each subsequent abortion. President Den Trumbull states, “When one considers the normal anatomy and physiology of the breast it becomes clear that this link is causal not merely correlational.”

The College looks to the day when the lives and health of all children from conception to natural death will be respected and protected. In the mean time, the College urges all health care providers to educate women on the risks associated with induced abortion, including the increased risk of breast cancer.

From "Abortion and the Risk of Breast Cancer: Information for the Adolescent Woman and Her Parents" by American College of Pediatricians – December 2013

Induced abortion (IA) prior to 32 weeks gestation appears to increase a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer. This association is largely ignored by the mainstream medical community, not included in sex education programs, and even disputed by some. For example, the Guttmacher Institute claims, “Exhaustive reviews by panels convened by the U.S. and British governments have concluded that there is no association between abortion and breast cancer. There is also no indication that abortion is a risk factor for other cancers.” However, as documented by the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, the vast majority of studies (57 of 73 worldwide) do show a strong association between IA and an increased risk of breast cancer. This discrepancy exists for many reasons, including bias in the selection of articles chosen for “exhaustive review,” as well as flaws in methodology (e.g. including spontaneous abortions along with IAs) of some studies that discount the association. As with any medical treatment or recommendation, a lack of 100 percent certainty and the need for constant re-evaluation is not a legitimate rationale for withholding potentially life-threatening information concerning an elective procedure.

From "Abortion and Breast Cancer: The Stubborn Link Returns" by Joel Brind, National Review 3/10/15

Prominent abortion practitioner and promoter David Grimes bemoans that bumper stickers still warn that abortion increases the risk of breast cancer, even though, he asserts, that “theory . . . was debunked long ago.” So begins Grimes’s recent piece on the Huffington Post’s blog Healthy Living. “Long ago” was, though Grimes doesn’t say so, 1997 to 2008, when there flowed a stream of “debunking” publications — largely studies that were methodologically flawed — reporting that no abortion–breast cancer (ABC) link existed. They were effective in fading the ABC link from public consciousness. But now the ABC link has returned, stubbornly, provoking renewed efforts to debunk it.

Being real, the ABC link is showing up, conspicuously, as millions of women worldwide who have had abortions over the past several decades are coming down with breast cancer at alarmingly increased rates. Dozens of papers are being published that show the trend. Grimes does not acknowledge the recent studies, however, relying rather on the discredited arguments of “long ago” — and some clever sleight of hand — in his shoddy attempt to disprove the link.

. . . Contrary to Grimes’s claim that the ABC link was long ago “debunked,” the epidemiological evidence has grown tremendously stronger. The inference of a causal association between abortion and breast cancer has become all the more compelling, with our advancing knowledge of the hormonal changes during pregnancy and of how such changes during interrupted pregnancies dovetail with the susceptibility of cells in the breast to become cancerous.

But Grimes makes mention of no data from this century at all, only of data from “long ago.”

With over a billion women in China and India alone, a very conservative prediction would be that in the coming decades, millions there will die of breast cancer that can be attributed to abortion. No wonder Grimes is not interested in the recent data: It’s devastating to his “safe abortion” agenda.

From "The breast cancer epidemic: 10 facts" by A. Patrick Schneider II, Christine M. Zainer, Christopher Kevin Kubat, Nancy K. Mullen and Amberly K. Windisch, published in The Linacre Quarterly 81 (3) 2014, 244–277

Affecting one in eight U.S. women, breast cancer is a modern American epidemic. This review contains 10 facts that summarize the emerging epidemiology of this tragic development. . . . The incidence of breast cancer has risen dramatically during the last four decades. Moreover, a growing international acceptance of Western style sexual and reproductive practices has been associated with an increase in worldwide breast cancer rates. A number of breast cancer risk factors that are potentially preventable are now established. An early epidemiological insight was that a delay (or avoidance) of childbearing raises the risk of breast cancer. Similarly, a reduced duration (or avoidance) of breastfeeding, is a loss of a natural breast cancer preventive. A greater understanding of the cancer-protective physiological mechanisms that occur during the first full-term pregnancy (FFTP) has resulted in an enhanced understanding of the breast cancer “susceptibility window” that occurs between puberty and the FFTP.

. . . Many reports from the United States and other Western countries have also linked induced abortion (IA) to breast cancer (the abortion–breast cancer (ABC) link). Recently, there has been a surge in the number of reports from multiple, non-Western nations, associating abortion with breast cancer. Consequently, there is now sufficient evidence to conclude that IA is causally linked to breast cancer.

There is also evidence of a compounding of breast cancer risk factors in girls and young women. Recent epidemiological research found a large increase in this malignancy in young women that is metastatic (to bone, brain, and lungs) at the time of diagnosis. This ominous development has “no recommended screening practice” and a dismal prognosis. This sobering trend mandates the need for disclosure of breast cancer risk factors. A medical, legal, and ethical duty for full and accurate informed consent exists for all females. This is especially imperative for a girl (with her parent or guardian), or a young woman, who is considering the choice of an oral contraceptive (OC), including so-called “emergency contraception (EC),” IA (or both) during her “susceptibility window.”

Scientists Create Artificial Human Eggs and Sperm

Having been stumped trying to prove there's life beyond earth, mankind turns its hopes to creating life here on earth by unnatural means.

According to the journal
Cell, scientists at the University of Cambridge (UK) and the Weizmann Institute (Israel) claim to have created human germ cells — the essence of human beings — by using embryonic stem cells and adult skin cells.

"Germ cells are 'immortal' in the sense that they provide an enduring link between all generations, carrying genetic information from one generation to the next," Azim Surani, PhD, professor of physiology and reproduction [of the Gurdon Institute] at the University of Cambridge, said in a press release.

. . . some cells in the fetus become primordial germ cells (PGCs) and eventually evolve into the cells of either sperm or eggs, which will allow this offspring to pass their genes on to a future generation.

In the study, the researchers identified a single gene known as SOX17, which is directly responsible for ordering human stem cells to become the cells that will turn into sperm and eggs. . . .

Many experts say that studying epigenetics may lead to a clearer understanding of age-related diseases such as cancer, since the changes lie not in the DNA itself, but rather the surrounding chemicals that make proteins and even facilitate new cell growth, including the cells that make up sperm and eggs.

From "Researchers create egg and sperm precursors using human embryonic stem cells" by Honor Whiteman, Medical News Today 12/29/14

"The creation of PGCs is one of the earliest events during early mammalian development," says first study author Dr. Naoko Irie, also of the Gurdon Institute at the University of Cambridge. "It's a stage we've managed to recreate using stem cells from mice and rats, but until now few researchers have done this systematically using human stem cells."

In their study, Prof. Surani and his team discovered that a gene called SOX17 plays an important role in a process called "specification" - transforming human stem cells into PGCs. Past research has found that SOX17 is involved in changing human stem cells into endodermal cells, but the gene has never before been linked to PGC specification.

The researchers found they were also able to create PGCs using reprogrammed adult cells, including skin cells. They say this process may open the door to research on patient-specific cells, which may increase understanding of infertility, the human germline and germ cell tumors.

In addition, the team says their findings may increase knowledge of how environmental factors that may affect gene activity - such as smoking or diet - can be inherited.

From "Infertility Treatment May Soon Include Artificial Sperm, Egg Cells Derived From Stem Cells" by Anthony Rivas, Medical Daily 12/28/14

Infertility affects more people than you might have expected. After a year of timing menstrual cycles, taking steps to boost sperm quality and count, and countless doctor’s visits, about 15 percent of couples still aren’t able to get pregnant. There are treatments, but those don’t always work either, and they sometimes end in multiple pregnancies. A new treatment for infertility may be on the horizon . . .

It’s unclear whether SOX17 can be manipulated to change these cells into sperm or egg as a fertility treatment, as more research is needed. Nevertheless, the scientists said the current findings were enough to take the research in various directions, not only with regard to infertility but also cancer and epigenetics — a field of research that investigates the effects of environmental chemicals on our genes’ expressions. In doing so, the researchers may shed light on “age-related disease, which in part might be due to cumulative epigenetic mutations,” Surani said.

From "Artificial wombs: The coming era of motherless births" by David Warmflash (astrobiologist, physician and science writer), Genetic Literacy Project 1/4/15

A comprehensive review published by the New York Academy of Sciences three years ago highlights a series of achievements by various research groups using ex vivo (out of the body) uterus environments to support mammalian fetuses early in pregnancy. Essentially, two areas of biotechnology are developing rapidly that potentially can enable ectogenesis in humans, and, along the way, what the authors of the Academy review call partial ectogenesis.

. . . the capability to push back the limit is around the corner. One of the two developing key technologies is the artificial amniotic fluid filled environment that has continued to develop with laboratory animal models since the work with goats in the 1990s. The other area is embryo transfer. Not only can a developing mammal be transferred from the uterus of its own mother to that of a surrogate, but gradually investigators are reproducing the endometrium–the cell layer of the uterus that contains and nourishes the pregnancy–as a cell culture, or an in vitro model. The convergence of these technologies will make it possible to transfer a developing human into a system that includes the placenta and umbilical cord and supplies all consumables (oxygen and food), and removes all waste, directly through the blood.

. . . While social conservatives might be receptive about what an artificial uterus might do to the abortion paradigm, make no mistake they’d probably not be happy that the technology also stands to make it much easier for male gay couples to have babies. . . .

UPDATE 1/31/15: From "Woman born with no womb gives birth to miracle twins" by Patrick Sawer, UK Telegraph

Hayley Haynes had the miracle babies, Avery and Darcey, after hormone therapy enabled her to grow a womb.

She was told at the age of 19 that she would never be able to give birth as she had no womb, ovaries or Fallopian tubes.

But nine years on she has given birth to the twins after IVF treatment using an egg donor.

Following months of hospital trips and blood tests, specialists told her she had been born with XY chromosomes, meaning she was genetically male. She had no reproductive organs thanks to a condition called androgen insensitivity syndrome.

The first signs of hope that Mrs Hayne’s condition might be curable came in 2007 when a new specialist at Royal Derby Hospital found a tiny womb missed on previous scans.

A new study out of Seattle suggests that the birth control pill could be linked to an increased risk for breast cancer. Scientists from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and their colleagues have found evidence that women who recently used birth control containing high-dose estrogen showed an increased risk for breast cancer.

The breast cancer data, published today in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, concludes that recent oral contraceptive use increased breast cancer risk by 50 percent, compared with never or former use. The results suggested that this risk may vary by the level of estrogen in the pill and other pill formulations. Women who took low-dose estrogen birth control within the past year were not found to be at a higher breast cancer risk.

From "Vasectomy linked to aggressive prostate cancer" by Robert Preidt, HealthDay/CBS News 7/11/14

For the study, Harvard researchers analyzed data from more than 49,400 American men who were followed for 24 years, starting in 1986. During that time, 6,023 cases of prostate cancer were diagnosed among the men, including 811 fatal cases.

The 25 percent of the men in the study who'd had a vasectomy had a 10 percent increased risk of developing prostate cancer, according to the study published online July 7 in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Vasectomy was not linked with an increased risk of low-grade prostate cancer. But it was associated with a 20 percent higher risk of advanced prostate cancer and a 19 percent greater risk of fatal prostate cancer, respectively, the study authors said.

Even among men who had regular prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening tests for prostate cancer, those who had a vasectomy were 56 percent more likely to develop fatal prostate cancer. This link was strongest among men who had a vasectomy at a younger age.

From "Recent use of some oral contraceptives increases breast cancer risk" by Honor Whiteman, Medical News Today 8/1/14

Numerous studies have suggested that birth control pills increase the risk of breast cancer. Now, a new study suggests that this increased risk may only apply to recent users and is dependent on the formulation of the pill.

The research team, including Elisabeth F. Beaber of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, WA, recently published their findings in the journal Cancer Research.

In this latest study, the team set out to see whether increased breast cancer risk could be attributed to certain types of man-made female hormones.

"Oral contraceptive formulations have changed over time in the US, and contemporary formulations have received relatively less scrutiny with respect to breast cancer risk," Beaber told us.

From "Some birth control pills linked to higher breast cancer risk in study" by Agata Blaszczak-Boxe, CBS News 8/1/14

In the study, the researchers concluded that the potential increase in the risk for breast cancer varied, depending on the types of birth control pills that the women used. The use of high-dose estrogen pills was related to a 2.7-fold increase in breast cancer risk, and the use of moderate-dose estrogen was linked to a 1.6-fold increase. Pills containing ethynodiol diacetate were related to a 2.6-fold higher risk. Triphasic combination pills containing an average of 0.75 milligrams of norethindrone increased the risk 3.1-fold.

"Our results suggest that use of contemporary oral contraceptives [birth control pills] in the past year is associated with an increased breast cancer risk relative to never or former oral contraceptive use, and that this risk may vary by oral contraceptive formulation," study author Elisabeth F. Beaber, a staff scientist in the Public Health Sciences Division of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington, said in a statement.

In the study, researchers examined health records and oral contraceptive use in 1,102 women ages 20 to 49 years diagnosed with breast cancer and 21,952 women without breast cancer in the same age group. . . .

Time since vasectomy and age at vasectomy had no effect on the risk for prostate cancer. "The cancers that were observed were also considered more clinically significant, such as those that are high grade or lethal," [researcher] noted.

. . . the researchers attempted to account for possible biologic mechanisms underlying the association between vasectomy and lethal prostate cancer. They looked at differences in sex hormone levels, sexually transmitted infections, and cancer treatment.

Although the researchers looked for mechanistic relation, they could not find one.

A report released today by the U.N. World Health Organization (WHO) shows that the rate of breast cancer increased 14% in the past four years but with massively higher increases in developing nations that have abandoned traditional child birth patterns in favor of contraception, sterilization, and abortion.  Unfortunately, the mainstream media is NOT reporting these well-documented, known principal causes of breast cancer.

Reproductive factors associated with prolonged exposure to endogenous estrogens, such as early menarche, late menopause, late age at first childbirth are among the most important risk factors for breast cancer. Exogenous hormones also exert a higher risk for breast cancer. Oral contraceptive and hormone replacement therapy users are at higher risk than non-users. Breastfeeding has a protective effect (IARC, 2008, Lacey et al., 2009).

The differences in breast cancer incidence between developed and developing countries can partly be explained by dietary effects combined with later first childbirth, lower parity, and shorter breastfeeding (Peto, 2001). The increasing adoption of western life-style in low- and middle-income countries is an important determinant in the increase of breast cancer incidence in these countries.

From "Age at first birth and breast cancer risk" a WHO Bulletin (posted at US National Library of Medicine - National Institutes of Health)

Abstract: An international collaborative study of breast cancer and reproductive experience has been carried out in 7 areas of the world. In all areas studied, a striking relation between age at first birth and breast cancer risk was observed. It is estimated that women having their first child when aged under 18 years have only about one-third the breast cancer risk of those whose first birth is delayed until the age of 35 years or more. Births after the first, even if they occur at an early age, have no, or very little, protective effect. The reduced risk of breast cancer in women having their first child at an early age explains the previously observed inverse relationship between total parity and breast cancer risk, since women having their first birth early tend to become ultimately of high parity. The association with age at first birth requires different kinds of etiological hypotheses from those that have been invoked in the past to explain the association between breast cancer risk and reproductive experience.

UPDATE 10/30/14: From "Scientific Review Urges Doctors to Inform Women of Abortion-Breast Cancer Link" by Karen Malec, LifeNews.com

A second scientific review in 2014 has strongly urged physicians to warn patients about the abortion-breast cancer (ABC) link before an abortion and argued the evidence for a cause-effect relationship is substantial.  A. Patrick Schneider and his colleagues authored the latest review entitled, “The breast cancer epidemic: 10 facts,” for the journal, The Linacre Quarterly.

Schneider’s team said, “…having more than one risk factor compounds the risk of breast cancer via synergistic mechanisms,” meaning the risk increase the woman incurs is greater than the sum of the risks for each of her risk factors. They explained:

“The strength of the breast cancer epidemiological evidence substantiates the necessity that all females receive full and accurate informed consent before they are provided hormones, induced abortion, or both. This informed consent is especially imperative for a girl (and parent/guardian) or a young woman, who is in the pre-FFTP (first full term pregnancy) breast cancer ‘susceptibility window.’  As a family history of breast cancer, of which the child may be unaware, increases the risk for the girl considering an abortion, the presence of a parent may provide clinical information critical to accurate informed consent.”

Schneider’s team cited “evidence of an emerging breast cancer pandemic.” Noting the words of Harvard’s Professor Brian MacMahon, the “founder of modern epidemiology,” who said “many of the prevalent forms of human cancer are preventable,” and citing his landmark research, they listed other ways women raise their risk: delay (or avoidance) childbearing, reduced duration (or avoidance) of breastfeeding.

Birth Control Pills Cause Cancer in Men

A new study in the British Medical Journal Open concludes that the rising incidence of prostate cancer deaths may be linked to a decades-long rise in the presence of the female hormone estrogen and similar compounds in the environment as a result of female human waste from birth control pills -- in other words, contamination of the food and water supply.

For background, read The Pill is Dangerous; Feds Say Keep Taking it and also read Study Finds the Pill Increases Risk of Breast Cancer

-- From "Study: Link Between Birth Control Pills and Prostate Cancer?" by Lara Salahi, ABC News 11/15/11

The study found that countries with the highest number of women on the pill were more likely to have a higher number of men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer. The finding suggests for the first time a potential link between the pill and prostate cancer, the researchers said.

It’s unclear what exactly could tie the pill to prostate cancer, but researcher said estrogen hormones released in urine that recycle through the water supply could account for one possible explanation.

“There’s reason to suggest there’s an environmental component [to prostate cancer] and not solely genetic,” said Dr. Neil Fleshner, head of urology at the University Health Network in Ontario and co-author of the study.

From "Global Prostate Cancer Risk Linked To Contraceptive Pill Usage" by Grace Rattue, Medical News Today 11/15/11

In order to determine prostate cancer rates, deaths as well as the ratio of women using common methods for contraception for 2007, the investigators used data from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the United Nations World Contraceptive Use report.

According to their calculations condoms, intrauterine devices, or other vaginal barriers were not linked with an increased risk of men developing prostate cancer.

However, in the population as a whole irrespective of the wealth of a nation, the use of the contraceptive pill in individual countries around the world was substantially linked to both the number of new prostate cancer cases and deaths from prostate cancer.

Themporal increases in the incidence of certain cancers (breast, endometrial, thyroid, testis and prostate) in hormonally sensitive tissues in many parts of the industrialized world are often cited as evidence that widespread exposure of the general population to EDCs [endocrine disruptive compounds] has had adverse impacts on human health."

Higher blood levels of estrogen hormone has already been linked to increased risk of different forms of cancer including prostate tumors while the new findings suggest that the synthetic hormones circulating in the environment can enter and accumulate in the human body through water and food chain.

Although the amounts of estrogen excreted from a woman taking contraceptives are very low, when millions of them use the pills over a long period of time, it might cause a low-level environmental contamination, said lead author Dr. David Margel of the University of Toronto.

To evaluate and develop their findings, researchers are planning to measure estrogen levels in water and blood stream of patients with prostate cancer.

Fifty-nine percent of men who had sex with animals did so for one to five years, while 21 percent continued the behavior, also known as zoophilia, for more than five years.

Men reported having sex as frequently as daily with such animals as mares, cows, pigs and and chickens. Penile cancer accounts for up to 10 percent of cancers in men in Asia, Africa and South America, although it is rare in the U.S.

From "Sex with animals tied to penile cancer: What explains link?" by David W Freeman, CBS News 11/9/11

"We think that the intense and long-term SWA [sex with animals] practice could produce micro-traumas in the human penile tissue," Stenio de Cassio Zequi, a urologist in Sao Paolo, told LiveScience. "The genital mucous membranes of animals could have different characteristics from human genitalia, and the animals' secretions are probably different from human fluids. Perhaps animal tissues are less soft than ours, and non-human secretions would be toxic for us."

But that's not the only possible explanation. The study also fingered smoking, having sex with prostitutes, precancerous conditions of the penis, being nonwhite, and phimosis (a condition in which the foreskin cannot be fully retracted) as risk factors for penile cancer.

From "Sex With Animals Linked to Penile Cancer" by Jennifer Abbasi, LiveScience Contributor 11/7/11

Sex with animals could be as ancient as sex itself. "Since time immemorial, this habit has been described in folk music, theater, jokes and oral traditions," Zequi told LiveScience. "In some antique civilizations there were temples or rituals designated for SWA practices." Yet SWA is underrepresented in scientific literature, and the new study is the first to link the practice to male genital cancers.

Tobias Köhler, a urologist at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine who was not involved in the research, said the study was rigorous. "It adds to our knowledge of cancer prevention and gives us epidemiological data we never really had before on sex with animals.”

He postulated that the lifestyle of men who have sex with animals could also be a factor. "The study reported that these men also have more sex with prostitutes," Köhler said.

Sexual Immorality Causes Cancer: HPV Epidemic

As the liberal media highlighted the heated presidential candidate debate concerning mandatory HPV vaccinations for pre-teens, they inadvertently damaged their own sexualization agenda, and so they've retrenched and are now reporting the cancer-causing effects of HPV infection -- insisting that all girls and boys be vaccinated ASAP. What the media refuse to acknowledge is that abstinence is 100% effective in stopping this sexually transmitted virus.

The problem is rooted in a culture that demands acceptance of sexual immorality.

Dr. Robert Haddad at the Dana Farber Cancer Center said he considers the rise in cases among men an epidemic.

"Fifteen years ago, almost every patient we saw with head and neck cancer was a smoker or drinker. Right now, in 2011, 20 percent of patients are smokers and drinkers and the other 80 percent get this cancer because of HPV infection," Haddad said.

The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 24 million people in the U.S. are infected with HPV at any given time. It's spread sexually, although some doctors believe it could ultimately become known as a kissing disease.

From "No apologies: Bachmann defends HPV remarks" by Sarah Huisenga, CBS News 9/15/11

Michele Bachmann is on the defensive about comments she made earlier this week suggesting that a vaccine against a virus linked to cervical cancer poses a danger to young girls.

During the Republican debate Bachmann attacked her rival Rick Perry for mandating vaccinations against the human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) for Texas school girls - a decision that the Texas legislature later overruled.

"To have innocent little 12-year-old girls be forced to have a government injection through an executive order is just flat out wrong," she said during the debate.

Scientists have accused her of promulgating a flat Earth theory of medicine. At an appearance in Virginia on Wednesday, Perry told reporters that Bachmann's assertions had "no basis in fact."

From "HPV vaccine is essential" by The Star-Ledger Editorial Board 9/16/11

Yet none of [the media fury] changes a central fact: It’s essential that we vaccinate against HPV, which infects as much as half our population. More virulent strains are linked to cervical cancer, a killer of more than 4,000 women each year. The virus also causes genital warts, anal, throat and penile cancers in men.

It’s so easily spread that condoms don’t offer complete protection. Teaching abstinence before marriage doesn’t, either, unless you can guarantee your child’s future spouse has never had sexual contact with another person.

So why is it the vaccine that’s stirring up alarm? Because of mouthpieces of mythology such as Michele Bachmann, who suggested it causes mental retardation, despite a total lack of evidence. And religious conservatives who believe it will somehow turn innocent girls into strumpets.

In fact, we should be mandating this vaccine for all young girls — and boys, once their version is vetted.

Assembly Bill 499 -- authored by Democratic Assemblywoman Toni Atkins -- would give the government permission to administer sexual health treatments and to vaccinate children 12 years of age and up without parental consent. Current law permits minors to consent to some types of medical or dental treatment. The bill would allow the child to specifically consent to "medical care related to the prevention of a sexually transmitted disease."

The bill is supported by groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood.

The American Life League reports that each treatment of the HPV vaccine Gardasil, has an average cost of over $360, a sum that would be footed by taxpayers.

Gardasil, the most popular HPV vaccine, has been found to cause dangerous side effects and as many as twelve deaths in the United States alone.

The state had attempted but failed in 2007 to mandate HPV vaccinations for all girls entering junior high.

Hearings on AB499 are expected starting on August 15. If passed, California governor Jerry Brown is widely expected to sign the measure.

From "Vaccines Save Lives. Period." by Rod Moser, PA, PhD (primary care physician assistant) posted at WebMD 8/8/11

The HPV (human papilloma virus) vaccine is one of our new vaccines designed to prevent cervical cancer in women. Preteen and teen girls who will eventually become sexually involved at some point in their lives are getting it. This virus does not jump up the vagina like a misdirected flea. The virus is transmitted from innocent-looking penises. Since the males of our species are the trustees of these problematic penises, they need to be vaccinated, too. Sure, condoms would stop this virus in its tracks, but condoms are not always used. HPV does not limit its cancer-causing potential just to the cervix. Oral and anal sex have grown in popularity among all sexually-active adults, straight and gay, so ENTs are seeing an increasing number of HPV-caused cancers in throats, tonsils, and anuses. Knowing this, some insurance companies are still refusing to pay for the HPV vaccine in boys. Of course, these insurance companies will pay for the cancer treatment.

I am always respectful of parental concerns. I listen to their side of the argument, read their strange articles they find on the Internet, but then they have to listen to me. Personally, I feel that a parent probably has the right to decide which disease they would like their unvaccinated child to get, but as humans, sharing this small planet, we need to think of others.

Public Rejects 'Carefree Sex Vaccine'

[A] majority of young women who are eligible for the [HPV] vaccine are either not getting it or are not following the three-shot protocol to be fully immunized.

-- From "HPV vaccine is not embraced by young women" by Shari Roan, Los Angeles Times 11/9/10

Researchers from the University of Maryland analyzed data from 9,658 teenagers and young women who were eligible for the HPV vaccination at the University of Maryland Medical Center between August 2006 and August 2010. Fewer than one-third (2,641 people) of the women started the three-shot series. Among those women, 39% got a single dose and 30% received two doses. An additional 31% got the complete regimen.

Gardasil is licensed for females age 9 through 26 and Cervarix is licensed for females age 10 through 25. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that all girls who are 11 or 12 years old get the three doses (shots) of either brand of HPV vaccine to protect against cervical cancer and precancer. Girls and young women age 13 through 26 should get all three doses of an HPV vaccine if they have not received all doses yet. Gardasil is also licensed for males age 9 through 26 to prevent genital warts.

From "Few girls, young women get HPV vaccine" by Amanda Gardner, HealthDay, posted at USA TODAY 11/11/10

"Women who are eligible for this vaccine and could potentially benefit aren't getting it at rates to maximally prevent cervical cancer," said study author J. Kathleen Tracy, an assistant professor of epidemiology and public health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore.

According to background information in the abstract, about 30% of sexually active 14- to 19-year-olds are infected with HPV at any one time. Over time, persistent infection can lead to cervical cancer.

The stigma surrounding sexually transmitted diseases may also be a deterrent. "There are these connotations with sexually transmitted diseases, so I think a lot of parents feel that, when you're talking about minors, everybody else should have the vaccine except their own child," said [Dr. Mark Wakabayashi, chief of gynecologic oncology at City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, Calif.], who recommends the vaccine to his patients.

-- From "Oral Sex Linked to Rise in Men's Throat Cancer" by Susan Donaldson James, ABC News 10/20/10

Two decades ago, about 20 percent of all oral cancers were HPV-related, but today that number is more than 50 percent, according to studies published by the American Association for Cancer Research.

Each year, more than 30,000 new cases of cancer of the oral cavity and pharynx are diagnosed, and more than 8,000 people die from oral cancer, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

HPV is the most common sexually-transmitted infection. Those who are infected often have no symptoms and pass it on to their partners through genital contact during vaginal and anal sex. It can also be transmitted during oral sex and, more rarely, during deep kissing through saliva.

HPV can also cause cancers of the vulva, vagina, penis and anus, and there is some evidence it is associated with esophageal and lung cancers.

Very little HPV was seen until the 1980s. "It was very rare in our archives," said Cullen. "But each year we looked, it was more prevalent. Why, no one is really sure."

Pushing Taxpayer-funded Teen-sex Vaccine

Mainstream media advocates deadly vaccine enabling sexual immorality for underprivileged children

-- From "Poorer girls not getting HPV vaccine for cervical cancer" by Liz Szabo, USA TODAY 3/18/10

A cervical cancer vaccine is not getting to many of the girls who need it the most, a new study shows.

Mississippi and Arkansas, two of the nation's poorest states, also have the highest death rates from cervical cancer — a result of poor access to basic screenings and health care for a large number of women, says Peter Bach of New York's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Yet in Mississippi, where the vaccine could perhaps save the greatest number of lives, only 16% of teen girls in 2008 received the shot, called Gardasil, according to Bach's paper in Saturday's The Lancet. About 22% of Arkansas girls ages 13 to 17 got the vaccine, which costs $390 for three shots.

. . . women's health activist Barbara Brenner of Breast Cancer Action says Bach's study highlights broad inequalities in American health care. "There are places in this country where women have nothing," Brenner says. "But we don't notice them until a story like this comes out."

From "One More: USA Today Joins in Misreporting Gardasil" by Sarah Knoploh, NewsBusters 3/19/10

When the vaccine Gardasil was first introduced, the mainstream media wasted no time falsely touting it as a cure for cervical cancer. The dangerous side effects of Gardasil – including death – were also ignored. Even though the side effects are now known, a March 18 article in USA Today by Liz Szabo worried about girls who are not receiving the vaccine.

. . . a National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) study in February of 2009 . . . found that 29 known cases in which patients have died after receiving Gardasil. Szabo never mentioned a single one of those deaths.

And it’s not just deaths that Gardasil causes. According to NVIC press release: “Nearly 90 percent of all Gardasil recipients and 85 percent of aluminum placebo recipients reported one or more adverse events within 15 days of vaccination, particularly at the injection site. Pain and swelling at injection site and fever occurred in approximately 83 percent of Gardasil and 73 percent of aluminum placebo recipients. About 60 percent of those who got Gardasil or the aluminum placebo had systemic adverse events including headache, fever, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, myalgia. Gardasil recipients had more serious adverse events such as headache, gastroenteritis, appendicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, asthma, bronchospasm and arthritis.”

CBS Deceptive Stem Cell Research Report

In this news report, CBS begins by referencing Embryonic Stem Cell Research, backed by President Obama, yet the only stem cell research that has yielded solid results uses stem cells NOT from embryos (such as from adult skin cells). Only an astute viewer, listening carefully to every word of this report, would uncover the truth buried in this report.

-- From "Stem Cell Cures Any Closer?" by Jonathan LaPook, CBS News 3/16/10

Twelve years after the discovery of the human embryonic stem cell, research is finally picking up steam. Over the past 7 years, the National Institutes of Health have almost tripled its investment in stem cell research to more than $1 billion.

CBS News medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook reports the number of embryonic stem cell lines funded by the government has doubled - from 21 to 44 today. More than 200 U.S. companies are researching stem cells. So the report card on stem cell research is promising -- but incomplete.

Two years ago, scientists found another way to create stem cells from ordinary skin cells. That breakthrough lets researchers study diseases in a dish. For example, skin cells from a patient with ALS have been turned into the kind of nerve cells attacked by the disease. For the first time, those living nerves can be studied - outside the body - to figure out what goes wrong.

. . . Even if everything goes right, [embryonic] stem-cell based treatments are still years away. But this may be one of those rare instances in medicine when the hype is actually deserved.

On the other hand, embryonic stem-cell based treatments may never, ever materialize; while other (adult) stem-cell based treatments continue to cure many diseases.

Promiscuous Girls at Higher Cervical Cancer Risk

Having sex at an early age can double the risk of developing cervical cancer, a study of 20,000 women suggests.

-- From "Cervical cancer link to early sex" BBC News 12/21/09

The investigation into why poorer women have a higher risk of the disease found they tended to have sex about four years earlier than more affluent women.

Previously, it had been thought the disparity was the result of low screening uptake in poorer areas.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer findings are published in the British Journal of Cancer.

The age at which a woman had her first baby was also an important factor.

In today's Journal of the American Medical Association, federal researchers analyze 12,424 voluntary reports of post-vaccination "adverse events" ranging from headaches to deaths. They conclude that only two complaints - fainting and dangerous blood clots -- are more common than expected and may be related to the immunization.

But an accompanying editorial points out that many questions about Gardasil remain - key among them, whether it really will reduce the toll of cervical cancer.

Another opinion piece in JAMA looks at Merck & Co.'s marketing strategy, contending the company coopted professional medical societies to promote and recommend the vaccine.

Gardasil, a series of three shots, protects against two strains of the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus (HPV) that cause 70 percent of cervical-cancer cases. Gardasil also wards off two other HPV strains that cause 90 percent of genital warts in men and women.

Next month, advisers to the Food and Drug Administration will consider whether to recommend expanding Gardasil's current approval for females ages 9 to 26 to include males of the same age. Vaccinating men would reduce HPV transmission to women and protect men from very rare HPV-related anal, head, and neck cancers.

The FDA panel will also review data on would-be rival Cervarix, the cervical-cancer vaccine for which GlaxoSmithKline is seeking FDA approval. Cervarix does not protect against genital warts.

"Performing Oral Sex is Not Without Risks"

Oral sex and open-mouthed "French" kissing increase the risk of acquiring oral infections of human papillomavirus, or HPV, a study shows.

-- From "'French' kissing ups risk of oral HPV infection" Reuters 5/12/09

It is associated with gonorrheal pharyngitis - a sexually transmitted infection of the tonsils and back of the throat that immediately causes symptoms, she noted, and now is associated with mouth HPV infections that are silent "yet may lead to oral cancer 10 to 20 years later."

[Dr. Maura L.] Gillison from The Ohio State University, Columbus, and colleagues explored whether sexual behaviors were associated with the odds of oral HPV infection in 332 adults and in 210 college-aged men. They found that 4.8 percent of the adults and 2.9 percent of college-aged men had oral HPV infection.

Among adults, the odds of oral HPV infection were significantly elevated among current tobacco smokers and among individuals who reported having either more than 10 oral or more than 25 vaginal sex partners during their lifetime.

Similar risk factors applied to the college-aged men. For them, having at least six recent oral sex or open-mouthed kissing partners were independently associated with increased odds of developing oral HPV infection.

Swedish Study Shows Oral Sex Causes Cancer

Patients with HPV in mouth likely to get tonsil cancer - rates skyrocket since 1970s

UPDATE 1/22/16: Oral Sex Causes Head & Neck Cancer, HPV Study Shows

-- From "Researchers suspect oral sex to blame for rise in tonsil cancer" by Elizabeth Weise, USA TODAY 4/3/09

The incidence of tonsil cancer has tripled in the city of Stockholm since the 1970s and doctors at the world-famous Karolinska Institute there think they know why.

Oral sex. Or perhaps French kissing. And changes in sexual behavior that took place 20 or 30 years ago, says Tina Dalianis, a professor of tumor virology at Karolinska.

Her research has directly linked the increase in tonsil cancers to the human papillomavirus (HPV). There are more than 100 different types of HPV, some of which cause cancer. One, for example, is responsible for 99.7% of all cervical cancers.

“It’s an epidemic,” she says.

With abstinence education the obvious remedy for the epidemic, the media insist rampant sex continue: "You have to be careful. Know who you're with and you have to take precautions. You need to educate yourself."

UPDATE 04/07/09: Swedish Study Shows Oral Sex Causes Cancer

-- From "The Oral Sex Cancer Connection" by Cathy Becker, ABC News 10/15/08

While most HPV infections clear on their own, there is an alarming surge of oral cancers linked to the virus.

Johns Hopkins researchers reported in a study published in February in the Journal of Clinical Oncology that between 1973 and 2004 the incidence of HPV-related oral cancers among people in their 40s nearly doubled. Today more than 34,000 people have oral cancer and 39 percent of those cases are related to HPV, according to data from the American Cancer Society.

"There is absolutely a link between oral sex and oral cancer," said Dr. Ellen Rome, of the Cleveland Clinic.

Men are 35 percent more likely than women to develop HPV-related oral cancer, according to the study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. But both men and women are susceptible.

While scientists don't know yet how sexual orientation factors into the equation, they know the No. 1 risk factor is a high number of sexual partners. So straight or gay, the more partners, the more risk.

Infection with the virus usually happens in adolescence. And while oral sex today isn't necessarily more prevalent than it was in the past, it certainly is more accepted. And some often presume it is free of risks.

A 2005 study in the Journal Pediatrics found that teens think oral sex is less risky to their health than vaginal sex.
