Pastors' Hands Bloody: Abortion Parts Trafficking

Presidential candidate U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is pleading with all Bible-believing Christians to pray and call on their own local church leaders to engage the battle against abortionists and stop government funding of Planned Parenthood.  Yesterday, Sen. Cruz told thousands of Christian leaders via a conference call that they have the utmost duty to protect the unborn.
"How did America become a country that harvests organs from unborn children? And who has the courage to stop it?"

[Ted Cruz'] latest pitch to religious voters came in a conference call Tuesday with church pastors from around the country.

In the conference call earlier, and at every campaign event, Cruz attacks Planned Parenthood. He highlights the recent series of undercover videos from an anti-abortion-rights group accusing the organization of selling fetal tissue from abortions for profit.

Cruz argues that he can win the nomination — and the presidency — by motivating real conservatives and not worrying at all about winning moderates. That's something he and others argue imperiled Republicans' chances in the last several elections.

From "Cruz’s evangelical outreach shifts into high gear" by Katie Zezima and Tom Hamburger, Washington Post 8/23/15

More than 100,000 pastors received e-mail invitations over the weekend to participate in conference calls with Cruz on Tuesday in which they will learn details of the [defund Planned Parenthood] plan to mobilize churchgoers in every congressional district beginning Aug. 30. The requests were sent on the heels of the Texas Republican’s “Rally for Religious Liberty,” which drew 2,500 people to a Des Moines ballroom Friday.

Heading into the primary season, it wasn’t clear how significant a role social issues would play in the selection of the Republican nominee. But social conservatives and evangelical voters say they have been galvanized by a one-two punch this summer: first, the Supreme Court’s decision that same-sex marriage should be legal in all 50 states — and then, the release of hidden-camera videos showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing the donation of fetal tissue in a seemingly cavalier fashion.

All of the Republican candidates have found themselves spending more trail time on both issues over the past few months. Those fighting most fiercely for religious voters have made them central to their campaigns. But few candidates have made the burgeoning “religious liberty” movement in opposition to same-sex marriage and the fight to deny funding to Planned Parenthood as much of their campaign centerpiece as Cruz has — and perhaps no one is as well positioned to benefit politically from a renewed focus on those issues.

From "Ted Cruz Teams With Pastors To Defund Planned Parenthood" by David Brody, CBN News Chief Political Correspondent 8/23/15

Dear Pastor,

The recent exposure of Planned Parenthood's barbaric practices of harvesting the body parts of innocent babies and selling them to the highest bidder has brought about a pressing need to end tax payer support of this institution.

As the son of a pastor, I know you bear a high and holy calling on your lives. I am urging you to confront this evil in our nation by praying and preaching with an unbridled passion until funding for Planned Parenthood ends, and this barbaric practice is purged from the land.

Over the next two weeks, with the support of your prayers and the impact of your preaching, I intend to lead an effort to end taxpayer support of Planned Parenthood.

The battle we face is not political. It is spiritual. To enter this arena in a prayerless condition invites failure. . . .

Cruz is working with the American Renewal Project, a conservative group that encourages pastors to run for elected office on a campaign to defund Planned Parenthood.

“Our call to action primarily, number one, is to get the pastors to return to prayer on this and every issue,” said the Rev. Ken Graves, who spoke on Tuesday’s teleconference call.

Too many of of the nation’s evangelical pastors “have come to believe that we have no freedom, no right to speak,” said Graves, senior pastor at Calvary Chapel in Bangor, Maine, and a speaker on the 20-minute call. He encouraged his fellow pastors to exercise their right to talk about Planned Parenthood and other issues according to their understanding of Scripture.

And Graves said the pastors stand on firm legal ground. “The word is out that pastors have the freedom, that they’re not a lower caste of American people,” he said. They can both speak out and engage in the process.”

The phone call is part of a larger 50-state campaign by Cruz to end taxpayer support for Planned Parenthood — a campaign likely to raise his profile in a Republican primary race where the vote of social conservatives is seen as up for grabs.

[Sen. Cruz] asked that pastors preach a message Aug. 30 “calling on your people to enter into this spiritual battle for the soul of their nation.” A link on the American Renewal Project points to an outline for a sample sermon titled: “The Cry of the Innocent for the Soul of a Nation.”

Finally, Cruz asked pastors to lead congregations in a “Day of Prayer and Fasting,” on Wednesday, Sept. 9, and use Wednesday night services asking God “to move in the hearts of men and women in government to vote to end the slaughter of the innocents.”

From "Ted Cruz calls out pastors to fight abortion" by Jack Minor, World Net Daily 8/25/15

“Now more than ever it is the role of the church, as well as our pastors and faith leaders, to stand up and speak the truth with absolute clarity,” Cruz said in a telephone conference call.

“I would encourage every pastor on this call to preach the truth about what is happening with Planned Parenthood. I recognize these are topics that are not without controversy, and they invite criticism when faith leaders speak candidly about them,” he said.

“If we cannot speak about this, there is very little that we can stand up and speak about. Preaching from the pulpit biblical values on life and comparing those values, the teachings of Jesus, to this nationwide business of trafficking in the body parts of unborn children is a message that needs to be heard across this nation.”

Cruz urged the pastors to lift up America’s leaders in prayer as well as pray for action against the sale of human body parts by the abortion provider.

Gay Agenda Destroys Everything it Contacts

Let's review the effects of the Gay Agenda:  sharp rise in STDs (not only HIV/AIDS) mostly associated with anal sex; exploding rates of transgender delusion (even among children) resulting in more suicides; lower marriage rates and kids raised without their mother or father; the demise of (gay-affirming) mainline church denominations; weakening of the once-strongest force for good in the world (U.S. military); public education transformed to indoctrination and social experimentation; demise of the Girl Scouts (after lesbian leaders took over) . . .

and now, the end of the Boy Scouts of America.

-- From "Boy Scouts OK gay leaders; Mormon church may quit" by Erik Eckholm, The New York Times 7/28/15

The Boy Scouts of America on Monday ended its nationwide ban on openly gay adult leaders. But despite a compromise allowing conservative church-sponsored units to pick their own volunteer leaders, the Mormon church, the country’s largest sponsor of Scout units, said it might leave the organization.

To avoid the wholesale defection of conservative religious groups, the Boy Scouts said church-based local units would remain free to exclude gay adults from voluntary leadership roles like scoutmasters and Cub Scout den and pack leaders.

Mormons use the Boy Scouts as their main nonreligious activity for boys, and the Cub Scout and Boy Scout units they sponsor accounted for 17 percent of all youths in Scouting in 2013, the last year for which data have been published.

Under the Boy Scout policy adopted Monday, discrimination based on sexual orientation will also be barred in all Boy Scout offices and for all paid jobs — a step that could head off looming lawsuits in New York, Colorado and other states that prohibit such discrimination in employment.

From "Are lawsuits ahead for church-based Boy Scout troops?" by Adelle M. Banks, Religion News Service (Washington Post) 7/27/15

. . . Scout officials say religious groups — which make up some 70 percent of chartered organizations — would still have the option to exclude gays even [with the new policy as] adopted.

“What they’re not taking into account is the new frontier that we’re on, where judges are being social change agents,” said John Stemberger, chairman of Trail Life USA, which bills itself as a Christian alternative to the Boy Scouts.

Trail Life issued its own eight-page legal memo, written by a former BSA lawyer who is now Trail Life’s general counsel.

“The church-chartered troop will likely be sued the moment it tries to revoke the membership of the homosexual member who wears his uniform to the Gay Pride Parade, revokes or denies membership to an adult who publicly gets married to someone of the same sex, or denies membership to the girl who believes she is actually a male,” the Trail Life memo reads.

From "Why Boy Scouts stance on gay leaders leaves it in limbo" by Amanda Paulson, Staff Writer, Christian Science Monitor 7/27/15

“You’ve got a highly divided organization,” says Richard Ellis, a political science professor at Willamette University in Salem, Ore., and the author of “Judging the Boy Scouts of America.” “Now it’s not clear that even this solution, which is an attempt to get the [gay rights] issue out of the way, can do it, because nobody is happy with it.”

. . . Some 70 percent of Boy Scout troops are now run by faith-based groups. By the time the BSA considered changing its ban on gay Scout leaders in 2013, it polled its membership and got incredible pushback, Ellis says. Nearly all the councils in the Northeast wanted the anti-gay policy changed, while 80 percent of the Southern councils wanted it to stay the same. The organization worried about an exodus of members. In the end, it decided to go with lifting the ban on gay youths, but not gay adults.

A BSA decision to lift the ban on gay adults but still leave hiring decisions to the discretion of local religious-based organizations affiliated with troops might have seemed progressive if the Scouts had taken that stance 25 years ago, when many first urged it. But coming in 2015, it now seems to critics like too little, too late – a decision that will still allow for discrimination on religious grounds.

“Our position has been and remains clear – we continue to urge the Boy Scouts of America to embrace full LGBT inclusion, without exception,” says Liz Halloran, a spokeswoman for the Human Rights Campaign, which fights for gay rights, via an e-mail.

From "LDS Church relationship with Boy Scouts in doubt, may create new international program" by Ben Lockhart, Deseret News 7/27/15

"The church has always welcomed all boys to its Scouting units regardless of sexual orientation," church spokesman Eric Hawkins said in a prepared statement. "However, the admission of openly gay leaders is inconsistent with the doctrines of the church and what have traditionally been the values of the Boy Scouts of America.”

Hawkins also confirmed the church is considering the possibility of creating an international program similar to Scouting and also made for young men ages 12 to 18.

"As a global organization with members in 170 countries, the church has long been evaluating the limitations that fully one-half of its youth face where Scouting is not available," he said. "Those worldwide needs combined with this vote by the BSA National Executive Board will be carefully reviewed by the leaders of the church in the weeks ahead."

The Catholic Church, another large charter organization with the Boy Scouts, did not offer a formal response to the vote Monday.

In recognition of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LBGT) Pride Month, Interior Secretary Sally Jewell announced on Friday that the Henry Gerber House in Chicago has been designated a National Historic Landmark, becoming the nation’s second LGBT-related property to achieve such recognition.

Gerber formed the Society for Human Rights, a group that advocated for homosexual men, in his Chicago home in 1924.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said his city is "deeply honored" by what he called a fitting tribute to a civil rights pioneeer: "This designation will help to teach generations of children about his important contributions to our city and our country,” Emanuel said in a statement.

From "Henry Gerber House named as National Historic Landmark" by Dawn Rhodes, Chicago Tribune 6/19/15

The Henry Gerber House in the Old Town Triangle neighborhood on Friday became only the second LGBT-related property in the country to receive the recognition. The iconic Stonewall Inn in New York City is the other building listed primarily for its impact in LGBT history, according to the U.S. Department of the Interior.

The tribute comes in the midst of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month, celebrated every year in June.

Carrie Barnett, board president of the Gerber/Hart Library and Archives, said the spotlight on Gerber and his home helps to fill in the historical narrative of the gay rights movement. The library in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood is named for Gerber and Pearl M. Hart, an attorney who also fought for the rights of gays and lesbians.

Gerber, originally from Germany, came to the United States in 1913. He became interested in gay rights while stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army in the 1920s and learned about the gay liberation movement in his native country, according to the Gerber/Hart Library and Archives.

From "Henry Gerber: The gay rights pioneer you probably never heard of" by Tammye Nash, My Gay Houston 2/17/15

Early in 1917, Gerber was committed for a short time to a mental institution because he was gay. But after the U.S. declared war on Germany on April 2, 1917 and entered World War I, Gerber — like other German immigrants — was given the choice of being declared an enemy alien and locked up (you know, like what happened to a lot of Japanese-Americans in World Word II), or enlisting in the Army. Surprise, surprise, Gerber chose to enlist in the Army.

When he got out of the Army, Gerber returned to Chicago and went to work for the U.S. Post Office there. But he didn’t forget what he had seen and learned in Germany, and in 1924 Gerber founded the Society for Human Rights, the oldest documented LGBT organization in the country.

Gerber filed for and received nonprofit status for his new organization, and African-American clergyman John T. Graves signed on as president. Graves, Gerber and five other men were named as members of the organization’s board. The state of Illinois granted the Society for Human Rights its charter on Dec. 10, 1924. Gerber also started “Friendship and Freedom,” the SHR’s newsletter, which is the first known gay-interest publication. It only lasted for two issues, as most SHR members were afraid to have it mailed to their homes.

From "Library of Congress Promotes Gay Erotica Literature at Pride Month Event" by Penny Starr, CNSNews.com 6/23/15

The federally funded Library of Congress held an event to mark Gay Pride Month on Thursday to showcase the publication of literature focused on the homosexual lifestyle, including a gay man’s photography of nude male subjects and poetry by gays and lesbians about their homosexuality.

According the Congressional Budget Office, the Library of Congress’ mission is “to support the Congress in fulfilling its constitutional duties and to further the progress of knowledge and creativity for the benefit of the American people.”

A one-hour lecture was presented by Stathis Orphanos, a homosexual photographer whose “work celebrates the male body,” including nude photos of men and photo essays of military men in various states of dress, according to Orphanos and to a description of his work on a website that includes biographical information about gay and lesbian celebrity figures.

Three other publishers of homosexual literature were featured in a panel discussion, including Bryan Borland, who explained how he started his publishing house, which produces “Assaracus: A Journal of Gay Poetry.”

Borland explained that he started his journal after a homosexual mentor published some of his poetry in a journal called Ganymede, named for a mythical Greek figure. When John Stahle died, Borland said he wanted to continue his work but under a different title.

“My research showed me that in Greek mythology Ganymede had a bother Assaracus – his earthbound brother,” Borland said. “While Ganymede was swept up by Zeus’s eagle to serve at Zeus’ feet, there was Assaracus, and I thought what a perfect name for a journal of gay poetry.

The Culture War is Over! Liberals Declare Victory

As American public opinion shifts to the right, the liberal media has launched its latest battle tactic in the Culture War: Announce loudly that the Democrats have won the war!  Such propaganda could be effective because the Republicans are pretending that there is no Culture War, withdrawing from the conflict.

For background, read how Republican Party platforms now support abortion and "gay marriage," and read about GOP leaders who shun moral values to win elections.  This is the GOP Strategy: Dump Old Uneducated Christian Voters

-- From "Democrats Put Cultural Issues in Their Quiver" by Jonathan Martin, New York Times 9/15/14

After a generation of campaigns in which Republicans exploited wedge issues to win close elections, Democrats are now on the offensive in the culture wars.

Democrats see social issues as potent for the same reasons Republicans once did, using them as a tool to both stoke concerns among moderate voters, especially women, and motivate their base.

. . . there is little indication so far that the Democrats’ push on social issues is motivating cultural conservatives to respond.

Some Republicans believe that the Democrats’ reliance on cultural issues in politically moderate states underlines the structural challenges that Republicans face with voters.

An electorate reshaped by a growing presence of liberal millennials, minorities, and a secular, unmarried and educated white voting bloc will most likely force Republicans to recalibrate.

To read the entire article above, CLICK HERE.

From "Why Democrats Are So Confident" by Ronald Brownstein, posted at National Journal 7/2/14

While Republicans took the offense on most cultural arguments through the late 20th century, now Democrats from Obama on down are mostly pressing these issues, confident that they represent an expanding majority of public opinion.

Beyond contraception and immigration, the parties are escalating their conflicts over a broad suite of issues that divide the electorate along cultural lines, including gun control, gay rights, abortion, and climate change (which politically pivots on trust in science). Combined, these confrontations are stamping the GOP as what I've called a "Coalition of Restoration" primarily representing older, white, religiously devout, and nonurban voters who fear that hurtling change is undermining traditional American values. Democrats in turn are championing a younger, more urbanized, diverse, and secular "Coalition of Transformation" that welcomes the evolution in America's racial composition and cultural mores.

Reversing their frequent ambivalence after the 1960s, Democrats are now following their president [Obama] into an unswerving embrace of cultural and demographic change. That shift reverberates through Obama's defiant recent pledges to act unilaterally if necessary to ensure equal workplace treatment of gays, protect undocumented immigrants, confront climate change, and overcome the Hobby Lobby decision allowing religious-based private companies to exclude contraception from their health insurance plans.

From "Morning Plum: Are Dems now winning the culture wars?" by Greg Sargent, Washington Post 9/16/14

In multiple Senate races, Democrats are hammering Republican candidates over contraception and “Personhood,” a development that many observers interpret as a sign that Dems are now the ones on offense in the culture wars.

A new ad blitz from Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS nicely captures the emerging dynamic. Colorado GOP Senate candidate Cory Gardner has been treated to the most direct and sustained assault over Personhood of any GOP candidate, and a new Crossroads ad appears designed to defend Gardner against it with an appeal to female voters.

Yet the ad does this only by changing the subject. . . . The ad never mentions Personhood or contraception. Instead, it obliquely refers to Dem attacks as “political scare tactics,” even as the featured women declare they want “a real conversation about issues that matter,” such as the economy. But, as Rebecca Berg writes, this ad actually “underscores the challenge Republicans have faced this year appealing to women voters.”

From "Oral Contraceptive Republicans" by George Neumayr, The American Spectator 9/10/14

The Left’s relentless “war on women” campaign is producing some odd results, one of which is the emergence of Republicans who champion over-the-counter contraceptives. . . .

It is a measure of the Left’s progress in the culture war that the architect of Republican support for over-the-counter contraceptives is a Catholic, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who in 2012 wrote a Wall Street Journal op-ed in favor it. According to Time, “Jindal’s political aides, and many GOP operatives, believe birth control is a gateway issue for women voters. While the politics of abortion have remained consistently split, Republicans fear being cast as anti-birth control could cost them a generation of women voters. ‘It’s often an immediate shutdown,’ said one Jindal aide.”

The Left should rejoice that “socially conservative” Catholics like Jindal have become enthusiasts for a position Catholic teaching regards as sinful. This will make it even easier for the Left to dismiss the Church’s stance as too “irrational” to warrant religious-freedom protection. It is hard to imagine Republicans who favor over-the-counter contraceptives serving as reliable defenders of the Church’s religious freedom over time. If Obama’s original contraceptive mandate became overwhelmingly popular, wouldn’t they end up supporting that too in the name of retaining women voters?

From "The Culture Wars, Then and Now" by Daniel J. Solomon, The Harvard Crimson 9/15/14

How did the left win the culture wars? That answer depends on how much thoughtfulness we impute to the American electorate. Often, when voters sour on the specific policies of Republicans or Democrats, they move away from the party as a whole. Barack Obama’s first presidential campaign, for example, turned on economic questions, but he gained his initial following thanks to his timely denunciations of the Iraq war. The polling data suggests as much. Between 2005 and 2008, the decline in President Bush’s approval rating—which fell as the news from Iraq grew grimmer—was correlated with a rise in public support for the social acceptance of homosexuality.

Pastors Avoiding Gay Agenda Deserve Hell: Graham

Reverend Franklin Graham, son of evangelist Billy Graham, boldly proclaimed that Christian pastors who do not preach the whole truth of the Bible, such as condemnation of all sins (including homosexual behavior), are the cowards for whom God "has prepared a lake of fire."  Graham directed his warning to such preachers who avoid controversial topics in order to keep their pews and coffers filled.
“The definition of a coward is one who refuses to do the right thing for fear of consequences. … We are soldiers in God’s army, and we cannot stand down on biblical issues out of fear of being labeled a homophobe or judge.”

. . . He added that “sinful behavior that is excused and repackaged as personal choice is Satan’s greatest deception,” and those preachers who minimize sin to keep their pews filled and “make sinners comfortable in their sin,” commit an egregious offense against God, who “has prepared a lake of fire for those who reject His truth.”

“Just as our nation has drifted from the strict interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, so has the church seriously drifted from taking God at His Word,” said Rev. Graham.  “Sin is destructive to people, to families, to nations and to the church. Sinful behavior that is excused and repackaged as personal choice is Satan’s greatest deception.”

“His greatest victories today take place within the church by those who remain silent; who are not aware of his divisive presence,” the reverend continued.  “The Body of Christ must recognize that we have allowed Satan to distract us with non-essentials. It is time to get back to the basic teaching of God’s Word.”

From "Cowards or Overcomers? Standing Strong on God’s Word" by Franklin Graham, Decision Magazine 7/10/14

Christians cannot ignore parts of God’s Word because they are unpopular or cause division. Our commission is to proclaim Christ and all He stands for. . . .

Followers of Jesus Christ, and especially pastors and church leaders, have a responsibility to speak the truth of Scripture, calling sin what it is, and acknowledging that it has always reigned in the hearts of the human race. . . . It is not just a debate about abortion or homosexuality; all sin is immorality—and all immorality is evil. In America today we are experiencing an epic drought. It is not just the basic misunderstanding of the Word of God; it is the absence of God’s complete Word.

Let’s overcome cowardice with courage. Let’s be fearless ambassadors of Christ and stand strong for the glory of God our Savior, pulling others from the fire of eternal judgment (Jude 23).

From "Where are all the godly men?" by Jason K. Allen, president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. 2/21/14

Given the complexity of modern ministry, many churches prioritize giftedness and experience above godliness in their candidates for ministry. Churches often look for competent administrators, capable speakers, polished people skills, a cute family and other secondary concerns before assessing the heart. Like ancient Israel, we have the propensity to look on the outward; all the while God looks on the heart.

. . . The "peer pressure" of ministry is oriented toward events, products, conferences and materials. It is as though the paraphernalia and garnishes of ministry have displaced the more biblical and eternal aspects, like godliness.

. . . Clearly, the New Testament prioritizes godliness in the life of the minister. The qualifications for ministry found in 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:6–9 deal almost exclusively with character, with little reference to giftedness beyond the ability to teach. Thus the timeless ministerial admonition, "Beware of letting your talent gain you a ministry position that your character cannot keep you in."

. . . Perhaps revival will not arrive in the pew until it first arrives in the pulpit. It may well be that the greatest need of the church is godly men who shepherd the flock of God with holiness and grace.

In between muscular men in speedos gyrating to thumping dance music and drag queens decked out in formal gowns, Salt Lake City's gay pride parade also featured a few, more conventional participants: Some of America's most well-known companies.

From Starbucks to eBay to Macy's, the increasing visibility of corporations at the parade in Utah and at others across the country in recent years comes as same-sex marriage bans fall in the courts . . .

At many companies, support for pride parades and festivals is being fueled by internal Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender councils who are given small budgets and freedom to spend that money where they choose.

The continued transformation of the parades from small, defiant, sexually daring protests to family-friendly, mainstream celebrations has been on full display this summer as new companies join businesses that have been supporting the cause for years.

TD Bank has been sponsoring gay pride parades and festivals in various cities since 2009. The company said it spends nearly $1 million annually on LGBT events and initiatives in the U.S. and Canada. This year, the company is sponsoring 20 gay pride parades.

The Flint Pride in the Park celebrated its fourth year Saturday, June 28, with more than 1,000 people coming to downtown Flint, said Planning Committee Member Yashica Ellis.

Ellis said U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee and Flint Mayor Dayne Walling spoke at the event, with Kildee giving the opening remarks.

The event boasted two stages with music, a drag queen review, dancers, spoken word performances, and folk singers. Ellis said the event also had live wrestling set up in the kid's corner and more than 35 venders.

This is the first Pride Parade since Illinois' law allowing same-sex marriage went into effect. Same-sex marriage will be part of the parade's theme, with married couples featured throughout the procession on floats, in cars and marching with organizations.

The parade has 200 registered entrants, with a handful of new religious groups and organizations, including the Shedd Aquarium and Art Institute of Chicago, organizers said. The parade is expected to last about three hours, but people often remain along the 4-mile route that wraps around Uptown, Lakeview and Lincoln Park for long afterward.

Wisc. GOP Sen. Johnson: Moral Values a Non-issue

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin made clear that he will not let his claimed moral beliefs get in the way of the codification of deviant sexual behavior via "gay marriage," or stem the flowing river of blood killing America's future via abortion.  Johnson indicated that he has no intention of discouraging Americans from voting for such destruction of the nation, if that's what the people he represents want.
". . . social issues are going to primarily be decided in the states through democratic process … then I’ll certainly go with the judgment of the American people in terms of where they want to fall on, whether it’s abortion issues or gay marriage or whatever. Let the voters decide that."

Sen. Ron Johnson, a Republican elected in 2010 with Tea Party support, says he won’t oppose gay marriage if that’s what the voters decide.

“I’m a pretty traditional guy, almost 60 years old,” the Wisconsin senator said during an interview on CNBC. “I think marriage is between a man and a woman. But again if the voters decide that they want gay marriage, I’m not going to oppose it.”

Johnson’s comments Monday on CNBC’s Squawk Box program came amid a broader discussion in which he emphasized that Republicans should stress economic and fiscal issues . . . [w]hen pressed about the “right mix” for Republicans on social issues vs. economic issues . . .

“From my standpoint it’s really the fiscal issues, economic issues that overweigh all the other ones,” he said.

Johnson's comments on gay marriage are in line with what he has said previously -- that gay marriage is an issue to be decided by a state's voters.

Johnson represents a state that elected the first openly gay senator, Tammy Baldwin, in 2012. The state's gay marriage ban was struck down earlier this month. However, the U.S. District Court judge who did so ordered a halt on same-sex marriages in the state while GOP Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen's appeal of the ruling is pending.

Cross-dressing Soldiers Look Good to Pres. Obama

A sampling of media coverage of the military would suggest that the purpose of the American armed forces is not to defend the nation, but rather is to advance sexual immorality.  And now, if President Obama's Secretary of Defense chooses to enlist the ranks of the transgendered, sexual confusion will certainly reign in the once-greatest force for good on earth.
". . . every qualified American who wants to serve our country should have an opportunity if they fit the qualifications and can do it."
-- Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel

In 2010, Congress passed legislation allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly. Hagel said the issue of transgender serving in the military is more complicated. He said "these issues require medical attention" that at times cannot be provided in austere locations.

A transgender individual is someone who has acquired the physical characteristics of the opposite sex or presents themselves in a way that does not correspond with their sex at birth.

The National Center for Transgender Equality said it welcomed Hagel's comments, which were made on ABC's "This Week." The organization's executive director, Mara Keisling, said the regulations that disqualify transgender recruits and service members are based on outdated prejudices and stereotypes.

Unlike with the “don’t ask, don’t tell” law, which was repealed in 2011, Congress has passed no statute banning transgender service members, which means the policy can be changed without legislative approval. “We look forward to working with the Pentagon to end these outdated rules that harm our military,” Keisling said.

From "Hagel ‘Open’ to Reviewing Military’s Ban on Transgender People" by Helene Coppermay, New York Times 5/11/14

In the American military, transgender service members can be summarily dismissed, as Defense Department guidelines describe transgender people as sexual deviants and their condition as “paraphilia,” with its connotations of the atypical and extreme.

A panel affiliated with San Francisco State University estimated in March that more than 15,000 transgender individuals were [secretly] serving in the military and the National Guard and the Reserve. Officials who worked on that study say transgender people are overrepresented in the military, compared with the rest of America, because many male-to-female transgender individuals enlist to try to submerge their feminine sides, while many female-to-male transgender people enlist because they want to be in a hypermasculine environment.

It remains unclear whether the military will seriously review its ban on transgender people, and President Obama has not addressed the issue specifically. In 2011, speaking to a gay rights group, Mr. Obama said that “every single American — gay, straight, lesbian, bisexual, transgender — every single American deserves to be treated equally in the eyes of the law.”

Earlier this year, an independent commission led by former U.S. surgeon general Dr. Joycelyn Elders found there is no "compelling medical reason" for the ban.

"We determined not only that there is no compelling medical reason for the ban, but also that the ban itself is an expensive, damaging and unfair barrier to health care access for the approximately 15,450 transgender personnel who serve currently in the active, Guard and reserve components," read the commission's report.

The report was compiled by what an “independent commission,” headed by former Clinton-era Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders, who was asked to step down after recommending schools teach children about masturbation as a way to avoid spreading AIDS, according to the Associated Press.

The report compared sex-change surgery and other treatments transgenders undergo to health care services that are routinely provided for all troops.

But Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, an independent, nonpartisan public policy organization focused on military/social issues, told CNSNews.com that the Palm Center is an “LGBT advocacy group,” not an “independent commission” acting outside of the center and its purpose.

Founded in 1998 as the Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military, the group changed its name to the Palm Center in 2006 in recognition of a $1 million endowment from the Michael D. Palm Foundation.

She said the lobby for transgender military service is also driven by the idea that sex reassignment surgery, hormone therapy or other treatments would become a military benefit.

“The paramount goal is self-interest,” Donnelly said, adding that the change to military law would be “yet another social experiment.”

Pope Francis Warns of Satan; Media, Take Heed!

Western liberal media have molded a caricature of Pope Francis as a kind socialist who turns a blind eye to hedonistic sins and embraces modern liberal culture.  Thus, any time the pope presents himself as a Catholic theologian, the media is mute -- like when he speaks of the Devil!
“The prince of this world — the Devil — exists even in the 21st century. And we shouldn’t be naive . . .”
-- Pope Francis

“Had Pope Benedict [spoken like] this, the media would have clobbered him.”

Pope Francis warned followers during a Friday homily that Satan is alive and kicking in the 21st century and that Catholics should always be on guard.

The Pope drew from the Biblical story of Jesus’ temptation while speaking to assembled congregants at his Santa Marta residence, just outside of the Vatican.

Although some may think it’s “old fashioned” of him to talk about the spirit world in the 21st century, Pope Francis said it’s important to be vigilant.

From "A modern pope gets old school on the Devil" by Anthony Faiola, Washington Post 5/10/14

Largely under the radar, theologians and Vatican insiders say, Francis has not only dwelled far more on Satan in sermons and speeches than his recent predecessors have, but also sought to rekindle the Devil’s image as a supernatural entity with the forces of evil at his beck and call.

Since its foundation, the church has taught the existence of the Devil. But in recent decades, progressive priests and bishops, particularly in the United States and Western Europe, have tended to couch Satan in more allegorical terms. Evil became less the wicked plan of the master of hell than the nasty byproduct of humanity’s free will. Even Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, a lofty German theologian, often painted evil with a broad brush.

Enter the plain-talking first pope from Latin America, where mystical views of Satan still hold sway in broad areas of the region. During his time as cardinal of Buenos Aires before rising to the papacy, Francis was known for stark warnings against “the tempter” and “the father of lies.” Now, his focus on the Devil is raising eyebrows even within the normally unquestioning walls of Vatican City.

But by focusing on old-school interpretations of the Devil, some progressive theologians complain, the pope is undermining his reputation as a leader who in so many other ways appears to be more in step with modern society than his predecessor.

From "Pope Francis Warns Satan Exists in 21st Century; Says Christians Live in Constant Battle Against Evil" by Stoyan Zaimov, Christian Post Reporter, 4/11/14

Satan, [Pope Francis] said, does not want people to be disciples of Christ, and wants to distance believers from Jesus.

"The temptation of the devil has three characteristics and we need to learn about them in order not to fall into the trap. What does Satan do to distance us from the path of Jesus? Firstly, his temptation begins gradually but grows and is always growing. Secondly, it grows and infects another person, it spreads to another and seeks to be part of the community. And in the end, in order to calm the soul, it justifies itself. It grows, it spreads and it justifies itself."

The pope warned that people need to be cautious and refuse to allow the initial temptation they are faced with to spread to others. "We are all tempted because the law of our spiritual life, our Christian life is a struggle: a struggle. That's because the Prince of this world, Satan, doesn't want our holiness, he doesn't want us to follow Christ."

In a separate speech on Friday, Francis addressed another "evil" in the face of clerical sexual abuse, promising victims that the church will continue fighting against such crimes.

UPDATE 5/14/14: "Pope Francis: Satan’s ‘Greatest Achievement...Has Been to Make Us Believe He Does Not Exist’" by Michael W. Chapman, CNSNews.com

“I believe that the Devil exists,” said the future Pope, then-Cardinal Jorge Bergolio, in his 2010 book, On Heaven and Earth, which was re-published in April 2013 with the subtitle, Pope Francis on Faith, Family, and the Church in the Twenty-First Century.

The Devil, said the Pope, is “a being that opted not to accept the plan of God. The masterpiece of the Lord is man; some angels did not accept it and they rebelled. The Devil is one of them.”

Jesus defines the Devil “as the Father of Lies, and the book of Wisdom says that sin entered the world through the Devil’s envy of God’s masterpiece,” said Pope Francis. “His fruits are always destruction: division, hate, and slander.”

Commenting further on the Devil, the pontiff said, “Man’s life on Earth is warfare; Job says it meaning that people are constantly put to the test; that is to say, a test to overcome a situation and overcome oneself.  … The Christian life is also a sort of sport, a struggle, a race where one has to detatch oneself from the things that separate us from God.”

Calif. City Official Yanked: Caught Reading Bible

The political correctness police pounced on Dr. Eric Walsh, Public Health Director of Pasadena, California, for reportedly making public statements in opposition to evolution, homosexual behavior, Islam, the pope, feminism, fornication, adultery, the Disney corporation and the entertainment media in general, including performers.  To be clear, this African-American preacher was giving a sermon and reading from the Bible.

City Manager Michael Beck announced Thursday that he has placed Public Health Director Dr. Eric Walsh on paid administrative leave following the discovery of online videos of religious sermons in which Walsh expresses discriminatory views on homosexuals, Muslims and others.

The announcement came just two days after Walsh stepped away from giving a commencement address at Pasadena City College, citing a scheduling conflict. The recordings, posted on YouTube and other websites, chronicle Walsh’s sermons given to Seventh-day Adventist congregations, including one on North Lake Avenue in Altadena, where he is an associate pastor.

Some council members and community members, however, defended Walsh’s record as public health director and cited the many programs he has developed to support Pasadena’s diverse community . . .

Pasadena’s 7th District Council Member Terry Tornek spoke by phone to CCN – Crown City News saying he was shocked and deeply troubled by Public Health Department Director Dr. Eric Walsh’s sermons that some consider to be homophobic.  “There’s a disconnect between the Dr. Walsh I know and the Dr. Walsh who made these comments,” says Tornek.

Tornek says it’s possible Walsh’s comments will tarnish the work of the Health Department.  He says whether Walsh will stay or go is probably not a decision the City Council would make since the head of the Health Department is a position the City Manager can hire or fire.  Tornek says he’s getting a lot of feedback from the community. He says Walsh’s beliefs are not his. “That’s not a belief system I adhere to, but I respect people’s right to believe what they believe.”

Still, Tornek says, Pasadena prides itself on being inclusive, and a city rooted in facts. “Pasadena is a fact and science based community, which makes this an awkward and difficult situation.”

Eric Walsh may be a heck of a public health director. His job includes overseeing restaurant inspections, and Pasadena’s restaurants seem to be doing just fine.

But he sure does have an intolerant streak.

Church Defeats Abortion in Colorado, Dems Concede

In Colorado, the first state to legalize abortion (1967), the Democrat-held legislature planned a covert preemptive strike against unborn children with the NARAL-supported Senate Bill 175, titled the Reproductive Health Freedom Act -- an all-encompassing, yet vaguely-worded bill intended to stop any future pro-life legislation. However, once Denver Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila brought the attack to light, and led Christians across the state in opposition, including a thousand-strong march at the statehouse, Democrats were forced to scuttle the mission.
“Too many times we have taken a back seat. Catholics, Christians and people of good will can no longer take a back seat. We are called to work for the good and for the true.”
-- Rev. Samuel J. Aquila, Archbishop of Denver

At least one Democrat had public concerns about the measure and all Republicans planned to vote against it. Democrats hold a slim one-seat majority in the Senate, so passage of the measure wasn't a sure thing.

Republicans and religious conservatives watching the debate applauded when Democrats abandoned the proposal. Opponents including the Catholic Archbishop of Denver feared the bill could threaten even basic health regulations on reproductive care.

From "Colorado Senate Democrats spike abortion bill" by Kurtis Lee, The Denver Post 4/16/14

All Senate Republicans, alongside the Archdiocese of Denver, denounced the legislation as "overreaching" and "ambiguous," saying the measure was not needed.

"It's a solution in search of a problem," said Sen. Bernie Herpin, R-Colorado Springs. "There is no one, no evidence, that has said there's a denial of things like contraception to women in Colorado."

Some GOP lawmakers criticized [Democrat Sen. Andy] Kerr's bill as political theater in an election year where the Jefferson County Democrat faces a tough re-election.

The proposal, written more like a resolution, offered limited details. For example, a section of the bill reads that the "state, its agencies, institutions, political subdivisions and units of local government shall not enact a policy regarding reproductive health care that is inconsistent with or interferes with access to information based on current evidence based scientific data and medical consensus."

From "Senate Democrats kill anti-Personhood proposal" by Eli Stokols, KDVR-TV31 (Denver, CO) 4/16/14

The abortion issue has long been a winner for Colorado Democrats . . .

Their proposal, the “Reproductive Health Freedom Act,” ostensibly sought to prevent any future challenges to abortion rights in the state — to do something impossible — in an effort to protect Colorado women from the kind of restrictive laws that have passed in other states: mandatory ultrasound requirements and impossible-to-meet clinic requirements.

On Wednesday night, with all 18 Democrats in the chamber, the bill was postponed indefinitely — killed, in a word — by the sponsor, who avoided what would have been a lengthy floor debate and blamed the decision on Republicans promising to filibuster the measure and bog down the Senate calendar.

Democrats also had to realize that politically this effort had backfired, riling up conservatives across the state at the end of a session that has been the opposite of last year’s, a session in which hardly any bill debated inside the Capitol drew much of a reaction outside the building.

From "CO Dems Abandon Abortion Bill After Archbishop Leads Rally at Statehouse" by Lauretta Brown, CNSNews.com 4/18/14

Although Democrats have a one-seat majority in the state Senate, fears arose that the bill would not pass after Senator John Kefalas (D-Fort Collins) - who had initially cast the deciding vote for the legislation in committee - expressed his misgivings, citing the huge public outcry.

Kefalas, a Catholic, says that he supports “a woman's right to make a decision,” but that he “had concerns about the outpouring that I heard from folks.”

“I'm not sure if it's the best tool for conveying the message which we wish to convey, which is that as Democrats, as with many people, [think] government should stay out of these things," Kefalas said in an interview with a local news station adding, “I'm also listening to folks that are reaching out to me.”

. . . after passing by just a one-vote margin (4-3) in the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, the bill stirred enormous opposition from pro-lifers, who said that it would block any future attempts to regulate abortion clinics, require parental notification before abortions were performed on minors, or force abortionists to show women ultrasound images of their babies so they could make an informed decision on whether to abort.

From "Radical abortion bill dies in Colo. Senate after call to prayer, action" posted at Catholic News Agency 4/16/14

Pro-abortion rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America, which backed the bill, had said that if it became law, it would have been the first of its kind in the country.

The legislation would have created a “fundamental right” to anything defined as “reproductive health care.” It would have barred state agencies and local government from having any policy that “denies or interferes with an individual’s reproductive health care decisions.”

Opponents had argued that the bill was vaguely worded and could have had far-reaching effects. They said it could have affected laws requiring parental involvement or notification for a minor who is seeking an abortion, as well as conscience protection laws and requirements that only licensed physicians can perform abortions.

From "Archbishop Aquila Leads Rally Against Colorado Abortion Bill" by Wayne Laugesen, National Catholic Register 4/16/14

Bill opponents crammed public areas of the Senate chambers and believe the outside protest, phone calls and high volume of visible opposition may have played a role in the delay.

And sources at the State Capitol indicated after the April 15 rally that at least two Democratic senators are now reconsidering their support for the bill.

Archbishop Aquila told protesters that senators were receiving so many calls they turned off their phones. Calls to a variety of senators April 15 went straight to voicemail boxes that were full.

Colorado Attorney General John Suthers, a devout Catholic, concurs with critics who say the law is so vague it would cause an assortment of unintended consequences — including legal challenges to laws that mandate health-care providers report suspected sexual abuse of children.
