Confirmed: Obama = Liar in Chief RE 'Gay Marriage'

In his about-to-be-released book, David Axelrod, the man responsible for all of Barack Obama's election victories of his brief political career, confirms what many people knew in 2008:  Barack Obama first advocated the Gay Agenda many decades ago.  Now today, the president and his current crop of apologists are lying again, saying Obama didn't ever lie about his position on deviant sexual lifestyles.
“Opposition to gay marriage was particularly strong in the black church, and as he ran for higher office, he grudgingly accepted the counsel of more pragmatic folks like me, and modified his position to support civil unions rather than marriage, which he would term a ‘sacred union.’”
-- David Axelrod (excerpt from his book)

No, no, no . . . “[Axelrod is] mixing up my personal feelings with my position on the issue. . . . I think the notion that somehow I was always in favor of marriage per se isn't quite accurate.”
-- President Obama (today)

-- From "Axelrod: Obama opposed gay marriage for politics" by Justin Sink, The Hill 2/10/15

David Axelrod said that he and other political strategists advised him to say that he only supported civil unions, not full gay marriage rights, according to excerpts of his new book obtained by Time magazine.

Obama apparently struggled with the task, complaining to Axelrod that he was “just not very good at bullshitting” after a campaign event where he stopped short of endorsing gay marriage.

Last year, a book by journalist Jo Becker reported that the decision in 2012 over how, if and when to roll out an announcement by Obama in favor of gay marriage was extensively debated among top political strategists.

From "Axelrod: Obama Misled Nation When He Opposed Gay Marriage In 2008" by Zeke J Miller, Time Magazine 2/10/15

Barack Obama misled Americans for his own political benefit when he claimed in the 2008 election to oppose same sex marriage for religious reasons, his former political strategist David Axelrod writes in a new book, Believer: My Forty Years in Politics.

The insider’s account provides the clearest look yet at Obama’s long-established flip-flop, one of the blemishes on his record as a progressive. The admission of Obama’s embrace of deception also calls into question the President’s stated embrace of a new kind of politics in 2008, when he promised to be unlike other politicians who change their views to match the political winds. “Having prided himself on forthrightness, though, Obama never felt comfortable with his compromise and, no doubt, compromised position,” Axelrod writes. “He routinely stumbled over the question when it came up in debates or interviews.”

As a state senate candidate in 1996, Obama filled out a questionnaire saying “I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages.” But 12 years later as a candidate for president, Obama told Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church that marriage could only extend to heterosexual couples. “I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman,” Obama said at the time. “Now, for me as a Christian — for me — for me as a Christian, it is also a sacred union. God’s in the mix.”

From "White House doesn't deny Axelrod coached Obama to lie about gay marriage" by Lynn Sweet, Chicago Sun-Times 2/10/15

The White House did not deny on Tuesday the revelation in David Axelrod’s new book that he coached President Barack Obama to lie about his support for gay marriage.

I asked Axelrod if the “believer in you” was comfortable in counseling Obama to modify his stand on gay marriage. I asked because that advice struck me as cynical, especially during the 2008 Obama campaign of “hope” and “change.”

“Well, this is always a delicate balance you know, because my belief was that Barack Obama as president of the United States would do more for the country and frankly more for the cause of non-discrimination than anyone else,” Axelrod said. “But he had to win, and my fear was that issue would become a distraction, so I’ll let others make value judgments about that.”

“If Obama’s views were ‘evolving’ publicly, they were fully evolved behind closed doors,” Axelrod added.

From "Yes, Obama Was Lying About Opposing Same-Sex Marriage" by David A. Graham, The Atlantic 2/10/15

Even in 2008, Barack Obama sharply divided Democrats and Republicans. It wasn't just a matter of policy disputes; it was a question of whether he was acting in good faith. (Prominent conservatives remain convinced that he hates America.) On one point, though, both liberals and conservatives agreed. Both sides were pretty sure Obama was lying when he said he opposed gay marriage.

There were good reasons to believe Obama was bullshitting, to use his term. In 1996, while running for Illinois state senate, he answered a question from a gay newspaper, saying, "I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages.” (In a classic political we're-stupid-not-dishonest maneuver, Obama communications director Dan Pfeiffer tried to claim Obama hadn't actually filled out the survey.) While running for reelection two years later, he said he was undecided. By 2006, he was citing his Christian beliefs as a reason for opposing gay marriage but adding that he was willing to consider the idea that his stance was "misguided."

So by 2008, Obama's supposed opposition was a fiction, but it was a politically effective one. The press could and did report that Obama had previously felt otherwise, but no one could prove he was lying. Liberals remained convinced that in his heart of hearts, he was lying and would eventually publicly back marriage equality. Conservatives remained convinced that in his heart of hearts, he was lying and was just waiting to announce his backing for marriage equality. (The one group that was unwilling to abide this situation, understandably, was gay activists, who insisted that rights couldn't be a matter of patience and pressured Obama to speak out at every turn.)

. . . Sometimes, lying does pay.

From "Obama disputes aide David Axelrod's take on gay marriage" by The Associated Press 2/11/15

President Barack Obama is disputing a longtime aide's view that Obama feigned opposition to gay marriage, compromising his true beliefs out of concern it could hurt him with voters.

Obama told BuzzFeed News that "I always felt that same-sex couples should be able to enjoy the same rights, legally, as anybody else and so it was frustrating to me not to, I think, be able to square that with what were a whole bunch of religious sensitivities out there." He added that he thought civil unions were "a sufficient way of squaring the circle," but that "the pain and the sense of stigma that was being placed on same-sex couples who are friends of mine" changed his mind.

He indicated his support for gay marriage in a 1996 questionnaire before backtracking years later. The president called that questionnaire "an example of struggling with what was a real issue at the time, which is, how do you make sure that people's rights are enjoyed and these religious sensitivities were taken into account?"

From "Obama Says He Didn’t Mislead on Gay Marriage" by Zeke J Miller, Time Magazine 2/11/15

President Barack Obama maintained in a new interview that he “evolved” on gay marriage, despite a top aide’s assertion in a new book that he was “bullshitting” in 2008 when he opposed the unions.

Obama told BuzzFeed that longtime political guru David Axelrod didn’t accurately characterize his position when Axelrod wrote in his new book that Obama shifted on the issue for political gains. But the President proved unable to explain why he moved away from supporting the unions despite supporting them as a state Senate candidate in 1996.

Asked specifically about the old questionnaire, Obama offered no explanation for why he said he supported the unions before deciding to oppose them.

“The old questionnaire, you know, is an example of struggling with what was a real issue at the time,” Obama said.

From "Obama Didn’t Just Lie about Opposing Gay Marriage; He Kept Citing His Faith While Doing It" by Andrew Johnson, National Review Online 2/10/15

Obama’s use of faith to explain his opposition to same-sex marriage dates back to his bid for Illinois’s Senate seat in 2004. The New York Times notes that Obama began to cite religion as the reason for his position on the issue during his race against Republican Alan Keyes, suggesting that it was part of an effort to court black voters who generally opposed the redefinition of marriage. During a debate with Keyes, when pushed to explain his position on the matter, Obama emphasized his faith.

“What I believe, in my faith, is that a man and a woman when they get married are performing something before God, and it’s not simply the two persons who are meeting,” he said. He went on to praise then-president George W. Bush for his “healthy” reversal in supporting civil unions, a position candidate Obama agreed with.

Elsewhere on the Senate campaign trail, Obama echoed that position, saying he opposed same-sex marriage but not civil unions. “The term ‘marriage’ itself has strong religious roots and a strong tradition that means something special to people in this country,”? he told reporters.

From "Illinois Sen. Barack Obama's Announcement Speech [of February 2007]" by The Associated Press 2/10/07

. . . let me tell you how I came to be here. As most of you know, I am not a native of this great state. I moved to Illinois over two decades ago. I was a young man then, just a year out of college; I knew no one in Chicago, was without money or family connections. But a group of churches had offered me a job as a community organizer for $13,000 a year. . . . [It's] where I learned the true meaning of my Christian faith.

. . . The genius of our founders is that they designed a system of government that can be changed. And we should take heart, because we've changed this country before. . . . [and] we're here today to take it back. The time for that politics is over. It's time to turn the page. . . . Let us transform this nation.

LSU Homosexualists Protest Louisiana Prayer Rally

As many as 7,000 Christians gathered Saturday on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge for "The Response: A Call to Prayer for a Nation in Crisis" with the Louisiana governor as headline speaker, but the LSU academia could only rouse a paltry few hundred of their faithful Gay Agenda advocates outside, while inside . . .
“It's about praying to God. It's about coming together. . . . today is all about a spiritual revival.”

-- From "Bobby Jindal Headlines All-Day Prayer Rally In Baton Rouge" by Melinda Deslatte, Associated Press 1/24/15

The rally attracted thousands to the basketball arena on LSU's campus but drew controversy both because of the group hosting it, the American Family Association [AFA], and Jindal's well-advertised headlining appearance [at this event, which was not publicly embraced by local Catholic leaders].

Holding his Bible, the two-term Republican governor opened the event by urging a revival to "begin right here, right here in our hearts." Later Saturday afternoon, he described his conversion to Christianity as a teenager.

"Today is about humbling ourselves before the Lord. Today we repent for our sins," he said. Later Jindal told attendees: "We can't just elect a candidate to fix our country ... We need a spiritual revival to fix our country."

From "At controversial prayer rally, Jindal calls for spiritual revival" by Rosalind S. Helderman, Washington Post 1/24/15

The event drew protests outside the basketball arena where several hundred were gathered because of accusations that the American Family Association promotes discrimination against gays and is hostile to non-Christians. Jindal briefly referred to the protests in his appearance, asking the rally's attendees to pray for the demonstrators.

Otherwise, he stuck to his personal story, describing his seven-year path to Christianity as he paced the stage in jeans, a blazer, and a TED-speech style microphone headset. He spoke of a high school friend who had told him that he would be missed when the friend and his family went to heaven but Jindal did not. Jindal recalled a girl in high school who said she wanted to grow up to be a Supreme Court justice, so she could "save innocent human lives" from abortion. He spoke of a revelation as he watched a video about Jesus dying on the cross.

By hosting the event, Jindal was unable to attend a more prominent gathering of conservatives being held simultaneously in Iowa. The Iowa Freedom Summit drew a series of possible Republican presidential contenders, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

From "AFA prayer rally at LSU featuring governor provokes protests" by Nancy Cook, KTAL-TV6 (Texarkana, TX / Shreveport, LA) 1/25/15

"Twenty-seven years ago, I came to Christ as a teenager right here at this campus at Chapel on the campus. It is amazing to me that 27 years later, I'd be able, as Governor, to invite people to come back and offer spiritual renewal and revival that we so desperately need in our state," Jindal said.

But members of LGBTQ communities from around the state, as well as LSU students and faculty, were not buying it, or anyway were not buying that the event should be held on the LSU campus.

The LSU Faculty Senate, in fact, passed a resolution opposing the prayer rally, in part because it was funded by the AFA, which it said was classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The AFA, the resolution claimed, demonizes and makes false claims “about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people, Jews, Muslims, Hispanics, Native Americans and atheists.” The resolution said the event contridicted LSU’s mission “to use its extensive resources to solve economic, environmental and social challenges.”

From "Thousands turn out for Bobby Jindal's prayer rally at LSU; students, activists protest too" by Elizabeth Crisp, The New Orleans Advocate 1/24/15

Outside LSU’s Pete Maravich Assembly Center, about 400 LSU students, faculty and others peacefully demonstrated, calling for equality for gay people and lesbians, an end to education funding cuts, and unity among the races and religions. Despite the controversy and concern it spawned in the weeks leading up to Jindal’s much-discussed prayer rally, those who attended said they left the event feeling uplifted.

Shamaka Schumake, of Baton Rouge, was among the protestors outside the PMAC. She said she wanted to get involved in the protest because of what she sees as anti-Muslim and anti-gay rhetoric from AFA and others involved.

Though [Jindal] and others have stressed repeatedly that the prayer rally wasn’t political, the event offered Jindal another chance to court evangelicals and the Christian right as he weighs a run for president. Critics had accused him of putting on a political show, just days after his supporters launched a political action committee that would set up a financial framework if he decides to seek the GOP nomination.

He also spoke briefly to an anti-abortion rally at the outdoors Greek Theater on campus while the prayer rally was in progress nearby.

From "Potential 2016 candidates road test messages on immigration, marriage" by Rebecca Kaplan, CBS News 1/25/15

"If I do decide to run [for president] I think this country, I think our nation, needs leaders who have the courage to speak the truth to us. And unfortunately we don't have that right now," Jindal said. "I'll give you an example: Earlier this week I gave a speech in London where I talked about the threats of radical Islamic terrorism. I know it made a lot of people upset, but we need leaders to tell us the truth. For example, people coming to our country need to integrate, need to assimilate."

Jindal . . . reiterated his believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, and took a shot at those politicians who have changed their stance on the issue.

"I know that many politicians are evolving, so-called evolving on this issue based on the polls. I don't change my views based on the polls," Jindal said.

He noted that Louisiana has a law defining marriage as being between a man and a woman, and said that if the court handed down a ruling that invalidated it, he would urge lawmakers in Washington, D.C. to pass a constitutional amendment that allowed states to continue defining marriage.

-- From President Reagan's Christmas address to the nation from the Oval Office 12/23/1981 at 9pm

At this special time of year, we all renew our sense of wonder in recalling the story of the first Christmas in Bethlehem, nearly 2,000 year ago.

Some celebrate Christmas as the birthday of a great and good philosopher and teacher. Others of us believe in the divinity of the child born in Bethlehem, that he was and is the promised Prince of Peace. Yes, we've questioned why he who could perform miracles chose to come among us as a helpless babe, but maybe that was his first miracle, his first great lesson that we should learn to care for one another.

Tonight, in millions of American homes, the glow of the Christmas tree is a reflection of the love Jesus taught us. Like the shepherds and wise men of that first Christmas, we Americans have always tried to follow a higher light, a star, if you will. At lonely campfire vigils along the frontier, in the darkest days of the Great Depression, through war and peace, the twin beacons of faith and freedom have brightened the American sky. At times our footsteps may have faltered, but trusting in God's help, we've never lost our way.

The day after Washington took command of the army on July 4, 1775, he issued an order saying, “The General most earnestly requires and expects due observance of those articles of war established for the government of the army, which forbid profane cursing, swearing, and drunkenness. And in like manner he requires and expects of all officers and soldiers, not engaged in actual duty, a punctual attendance on Divine service, to implore the blessing of Heaven upon the means used for our safety and defense.”

About a year later on July 9, 1776, Washington issued another order defining a “Christian soldier.”

It stated, “The honorable Continental Congress having been pleased to allow a chaplain to each regiment, with the pay of thirty-three dollars and one-third per month, the colonels or commanding officers of each regiment are directed to procure chaplains accordingly, persons of good characters and exemplary lives, and to see that all inferior officers and soldiers pay them a suitable respect."

The Sacramento County, California grand jury has begun an official inquiry of the practices of the mayor and Sacramento city council members regarding a no-oversight $1+ million annual slush fund.  Local news media have uncovered a transfer of $11,000 of tax dollars to Planned Parenthood over a two-year period.
"I think if people were aware of it, you would have an overwhelming amount of people showing up at a City Council meeting complaining.  I think you would have calls to their offices. I think you would have long lines if there was an open forum for people to discuss. I think it would be a big issue."

Each of the eight City Council members get $400,000 a year to spend, with few restrictions. Meanwhile, the mayor gets a budget of $940,000.

KCRA 3's investigation revealed thousands of dollars have been spent on items like portable toilets and bounce houses.

In the fiscal year 2013-14, Mayor Kevin Johnson spent $905,000 from his budget. . . . including an $11,000 staff appreciation luncheon, trips to Washington, D.C., and a brochure listing his accomplishments.

A city audit in 2004 recommended establishing "written policies, written procedures and the establishment of clear practices" for how those funds could be used, but in the past 10 years, the city clerk's office said no new rules or policies have been put in place.

KCRA 3 found City Council members gave tax money to organizations, including business groups, labor organizations and even Planned Parenthood, without a council-wide vote, which has raised questions among some taxpayers.

When KCRA 3 asked [Councilmember Angelique] Ashby about using tax dollars to contribute to Planned Parenthood programs, she defended the contribution, took off the microphone and walked away.

"I don't think they as elected officials should have the ability just to spend where they please," Marotti said. "It almost seems like it's kind of hidden. If it's not voted on, it's not announced. (KCRA 3) found it, but I never knew about it before."

Liberals Launch Salvo at Gov. Jindal Prayer Rally

As Louisiana Gov. Gov. Bobby Jindal will host a mass prayer rally on the LSU campus in January called "The Response," sponsored by the American Family Association, a conservative Christian group based out of Mississippi.

American Family is covering the cost of the event, scheduled for 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Jan. 24 at the Maravich Assembly Center. The mass meeting is billed as a group meditation -- a response, if you will -- to the multiple crises facing the country.

This same group funded a similar mass prayer rally for Texas Gov. Rick Perry in 2011, just days before Perry announced his 2012 presidential campaign.

Republicans Going Gay, to be 'Moderate' & Likeable

Because the goal of the Republican Party, like all political parties, is to gain power, GOP strategists are weighing the prospects of adopting more planks of the Democrat party platform — believing such position shifts would garner more votes.
To win, Republican candidates must offer “common-sense ideas” that demonstrate compassion and expand their support beyond base Republican voters, said Sen. Rob Portman (Ohio), who has played a major role this year raising money for and advising the GOP’s top Senate recruits.

In a midterm election year in which the political climate and map of battleground states clearly favors Republicans, many GOP candidates are nevertheless embracing some Democratic priorities in an effort to win over skeptical voters.

Even on social issues, an area where the GOP traditionally has hewed to the wishes of its evangelical Christian base, many Senate hopefuls have backed same-sex marriage or over-the-counter access to birth-control pills.

In the face of sustained attacks from Democrats on issues of reproductive health, Republican Senate challengers in Colorado, North Carolina, Michigan, Minnesota and Virginia have said they support over-the-counter access to birth-control pills.

Social conservative leaders cautioned that candidates who move to the middle on social issues risk alienating their conservative base.

“Those in the Republican Party who have stepped away [from conservative positions] thinking that’s an answer to beat the Democrats are going to put themselves in some unnecessary danger in losing some people going to the polls,” said Connie Mackey, president of FRC Action PAC, the Family Research Council’s political arm.

Tyler Deaton, campaign manager at Young Conservatives for Freedom to Marry, . . . thinks that momentum is on its side. More Republicans are announcing their support for same-sex marriage. Three openly gay Republicans ran for Congress this year (one lost in the primaries) and Republican lawmakers are slowly announcing their support.

Their campaign is targeted and funded. They have launched in the first four and arguably most influential of the presidential nominating states: New Hampshire, Iowa, Nevada and South Carolina. And the national organization Freedom to Marry has committed $1 million to the effort.

Deaton said the campaign is encouraging young conservatives to become delegates to the Republican National Convention, where the platform language will be set in 2016 as the GOP meeting votes on its presidential nominee. The convention will be held in Cleveland.

He said the national GOP platform has five sections with anti-gay or anti-gay marriage language. The young conservatives want the language replaced with statements backing same-sex marriage.

From "[Republican] Monica Wehby backs gay marriage in TV ad" by James Hohmann, Politico 9/9/14

A Republican Senate candidate in Oregon . . . Monica Wehby, a pediatric neurosurgeon, has been attacked by Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley as just another cookie-cutter conservative. The first-time candidate supports abortion rights and gay marriage, and she’s looking for ways to show voters in the blue state that she’s different.

Republicans in blue states endorsing gay marriage is not totally new. Three openly gay GOP House candidates have featured their partners in campaign materials, including Richard Tisei in Massachusetts, Dan Innis in New Hampshire and Carl DeMaio in California.

If Wehby won, she would join four Republican senators who support same-sex marriage: Illinois’ Mark Kirk, Ohio’s Rob Portman, Maine’s Susan Collins and Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski.

On the issue of abortion, she said: “As Republicans, we believe in limited government. Why would we want [the feds] to have any reach into our personal and private lives?”

From "Michigan Republicans may pair gay rights amendment with 'religious freedom' act" by Jonathan Oosting, MLive.com (Booth Newspapers, Grand Rapids, MI) 9/19/14

[House Speaker Jase] Bolger is exploring the possibility of pairing an Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act [Gay Agenda] amendment with a Michigan version of the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which aims to limit laws that would substantially burden a person’s free exercise of religion.

Updating Elliott-Larsen would allow Michigan residents to file a civil rights complaint or lawsuit if they were the target of discrimination in the workplace, housing market or place of public accommodation because they are gay.

Bolger's goal, according to sources familiar with his thinking, is a legal framework that would prevent a Michigan business from firing someone who is gay or denying them service, unless that service involves a form of religious expression.

A business coalition of large employers and civil rights advocates began pushing the Republican-led Legislature to add sexual orientation and gender identity protections to Michigan law in May, and momentum continued to build when Republican Gov. Rick Snyder said he’d like lawmakers to consider the issue this fall.

ObamaCare Abortion Lies: Taxpayer Study Findings

In a report just released, the nonpartisan congressional watchdog Government Accountability Office has confirmed the all-too-familiar story:  ObamaCare is forcing every American to pay for someone's abortion through government-mandated health insurance subsidies, all in direct conflict with President Obama's personal guarantee at the signing of his Affordable Car Act in 2010 when he said that no federal tax dollars would fund abortion.
In response to the government report, the Obama Administration said it "acknowledges that additional clarification may be needed."

-- From "Concerns Raised Over 'Obamacare' Abortion Coverage" by Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar, Associated Press 9/16/14

The Government Accountability Office said in a report released late Monday that only 1 of 18 insurers it reviewed was separately itemizing a charge for coverage of elective abortions on enrollees' bills.

That detail is important because the original compromise that President Barack Obama sealed with anti-abortion Democrats stipulated that no federal funds would be used to pay for elective abortions. Instead, private health plans covering the procedure would collect a separate premium, which would be segregated from federal subsidies for other medical services.

Although abortion is a legal medical procedure, longstanding federal laws prohibit taxpayer funds from being used to pay for it, except in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother.

From "Government Watchdog Finds ObamaCare Massively Funds Abortion-on-Demand" by Targeted News Service posted at InsuranceNewsNet.com

GAO has found that in 2014, taxpayers are funding over a thousand Obamacare health plans that subsidize abortion on demand--even late-term abortion--in defiance of the Hyde Amendment the President publicly said he would honor.

According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) April 2014 estimate, between 2014 and 2024, taxpayer subsidies to buy ObamaCare health plans will total $855 billion, making taxpayers unwittingly complicit in abortion.

GAO found that even an accounting trick embedded in ObamaCare requiring premium payers to be accessed a separate monthly abortion surcharge is being completely ignored. The surcharge would have added some modicum of transparency so individuals would know whether they are purchasing a pro-life or pro-abortion health insurance plan if faithfully implemented. Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska summed up the plain meaning of the law: "you have to write two checks." According to GAO, none of the 18 insurance companies they interviewed are collecting the abortion surcharge separately.

From "ObamaCare subsidies paying for abortions, GAO investigation finds" by Sarah Ferris, The Hill 9/16/14

“Today’s GAO report confirms that under the president’s health care law, abortions are being paid for with taxpayer funds by more than 1,000 exchange plans across the country,” Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said in a statement. “This information has been hidden from the American public for years by the Obama Administration, which repeatedly denied congressional requests for its public release."

Diane Black (R-Tenn.) called the report “disturbing” and said she has been repeatedly ignored by the administration when asking about the issue of abortion subsidies.

“Now the GAO has proven that the government has failed to ensure that the insurance issuers are not billing the abortion surcharge separately as required by the law. So the question remains, what will the Administration now do to ensure compliance? This must be fixed,” Black said.

GOP Senator Favors 'Gay Marriage' to Get Elected

Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins of Maine announced this week that she supports deviant sexual behavior across America because so many other people (mostly judges) do so -- besides, otherwise her Democrat challenger, former ACLU director Shenna Bellows, could win the election in November.
"Nearly 44 percent of Americans live in a state where same-sex couples can be legally married, and I believe this number will only continue to grow."
-- Sen. Susan Collins, career politician
In order to get elected in the past, Collins had kept a lid on her enthusiasm for homosexual advocacy.

Earlier this week, Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson said same-sex "marriage" and abortion are non-issues.

Collins publicly announced her support for same-sex marriage after the Human Rights Campaign, America's largest LGBT advocacy group, endorsed her re-election over Democrat challenger Shenna Bellows.

Collins is the fourth Republican senator to endorse marriage equality, after Mark Kirk of Illinois, Rob Portman of Ohio and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

From "GOP Sen. Collins declares support for gay marriage" by Catalina Camia, USA TODAY 6/26/14

“A number of states, including my home state of Maine, have now legalized same-sex marriage, and I agree with that decision,” Collins said in a statement issued Wednesday. . . . Collins previously has said the issue was best handled by the states.

The senator was endorsed for re-election Wednesday by the Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights group. Chad Griffin, president of HRC, cited Collins’ efforts to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell,” the policy that had prevented openly gay members of the military, and her vote for the Employer Non-Discrimination Act, known as ENDA.

“It seems the dam has finally broken: from local legislators to United States Senators, Republicans around the country are coming to the common-sense conservative conclusion that marriage equality strengthens society and is no threat to religious liberty,” said Gregory Angelo, executive director of Log Cabin Republicans, a group of gay Republicans.

From "Susan Collins becomes fourth GOP senator to publicly support same-sex marriage" by Mario Moretto, Bangor Daily News Staff 6/25/14

Collins has long maintained that the question of same-sex marriage is one for each state to decide on its own.

While Collins had never made her personal stance on same-sex marriage known, she voted twice — in 2004 and 2006 — against proposed amendments to the U.S. Constitution that would have codified in the highest law that marriage only existed between one man and woman.

Collins also helped shepherd the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, or ENDA, through the Senate. That bill protects LGBT people from workplace discrimination.

Collins’ support for same-sex marriage puts her out of step with the Maine Republican Party’s official stance, enshrined in its platform, that marriage exists only between one man and one woman.

Wisc. GOP Sen. Johnson: Moral Values a Non-issue

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin made clear that he will not let his claimed moral beliefs get in the way of the codification of deviant sexual behavior via "gay marriage," or stem the flowing river of blood killing America's future via abortion.  Johnson indicated that he has no intention of discouraging Americans from voting for such destruction of the nation, if that's what the people he represents want.
". . . social issues are going to primarily be decided in the states through democratic process … then I’ll certainly go with the judgment of the American people in terms of where they want to fall on, whether it’s abortion issues or gay marriage or whatever. Let the voters decide that."

Sen. Ron Johnson, a Republican elected in 2010 with Tea Party support, says he won’t oppose gay marriage if that’s what the voters decide.

“I’m a pretty traditional guy, almost 60 years old,” the Wisconsin senator said during an interview on CNBC. “I think marriage is between a man and a woman. But again if the voters decide that they want gay marriage, I’m not going to oppose it.”

Johnson represents a state that elected the first openly gay senator, Tammy Baldwin, in 2012. The state's gay marriage ban was struck down earlier this month. Media Hides ObamaCare Abortion Lies; Supreme Court

Unbeknownst to virtually all Americans, yesterday the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a First Amendment case involving broken promises that ObamaCare would not result in federal funding of abortion.  Nearly all media outlets stripped the abortion/ObamaCare essence from their coverage of the case of a pro-life organization that was muzzled by the Ohio law restricting political advertising.

Also read the saga of ex-Rep. Bart Stupak and President Obama's now-broken promise to bar taxpayer-funded abortion of ObamaCare

-- From "Ohio law criticized by high court" by The Associated Press 4/22/14

The case began during the 2010 election when a national antiabortion group, the Susan B. Anthony List [SBA List], planned to put up billboards accusing then-Rep. Steve Driehaus of supporting taxpayer-funded abortion because he voted for President Barack Obama’s new health care law. Driehaus, a Democrat who opposes abortion, claimed the group’s billboard ads distorted the truth and therefore violated the false speech law.

Driehaus filed a complaint with the Ohio Elections Commission, an action that prompted the billboard owner to decline posting the ads. The commission found probable cause that the ads violated the law, but Driehaus later withdrew his complaint after losing his re-election campaign.

The Susan B. Anthony List then challenged the state law as unconstitutional, but a federal judge said the group didn’t have the right to sue because it hadn’t yet suffered actual harm. The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati agreed.

[At the Supreme Court,] Chief Justice Roberts said that third parties such as TV stations or billboard owners are going to be intimidated by the law, preventing a group from getting its message out.

Justice Antonin Scalia said the Susan B. Anthony List intends to make the same charges against other Democrats in the next election. He said the harm is that the group fears being dragged before the “Ministry of Truth” for similar proceedings, referring to the government propaganda office in George Orwell’s novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four.”

From "Abortion at heart of Ohio speech case" by Paige Winfield Cunningham, Politico 4/22/14

The justices aren’t likely to decide whether the law chills free speech—although Susan B. Anthony List and even the Ohio attorney general say that it does. They’re instead being asked to decide whether SBA List has standing to challenge the law since the group was never prosecuted under it.

The argument that SBA List and other anti-abortion groups really want settled by the Supreme Court is whether the 2010 health care law actually does provide for taxpayer funding of abortion—the issue that nearly derailed the legislation before Congress passed it.

Last week, SBA List announced ads with the same abortion-funding charge against Sen. Kay Hagan of North Carolina, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Mark Pryor of Arkansas. But while Louisiana and at least 15 other states have political speech laws similar to Ohio’s, legal experts say that most aren’t enforced.

From "Supreme Court suspicious of Ohio law that criminalizes false speech about candidates" by Robert Barnes, Washington Post 4/22/14

Technically, the court was reviewing a decision by a lower court that an antiabortion group did not have the legal standing to challenge the constitutionality of Ohio’s law, which is similar to ones in more than a dozen other states.

But the justices couldn’t resist giving a preview of their skepticism about what Michael A. Carvin, the Washington lawyer representing the group Susan B. Anthony List, called Ohio’s “ministry of truth” during oral arguments.

“Don’t you think there’s a serious First Amendment concern with a state law that requires you to come before a commission to justify what you are going to say and which gives the commission discovery power to find out who’s involved in your association, what research you’ve made, et cetera?” Justice Anthony M. Kennedy asked Ohio State Solicitor Eric E. Murphy.

Both liberal and conservative groups have filed briefs supporting the [pro-life] group. The case is Susan B. Anthony List v. Driehaus.

From "In Pro-Life Case Involving 'Obamacare' Abortion Funding, Supreme Court Has Free Speech Concerns" by Napp Nazworth, Christian Post Reporter 4/23/14

While some reports about the case suggest it is about whether the First Amendment protects a right to lie, SBA List argues it told the truth about abortion funding in the ACA.

"Because Congress and the White House failed to include the Stupak amendment in the ACA as it passed, the law is full of abortion funding loopholes," SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said Tuesday. "Since 2009, the SBA List has joined the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, other pro-life groups and members of Congress in pointing out the clandestine abortion funding problems in the Affordable Care Act. These abortion provisions blatantly contradict President Obama's 2009 promise that 'under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortion.'"

According to [Alliance Defending Freedom senior counsel Casey] Mattox, Stephen Breyer, one of the more liberal members of the court, pointed out that abortion funding in the ACA is at least a disputed question. He noted that the court recently heard arguments in a case in which Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Woods Specialties sued the Obama administration, arguing that the ACA's birth control mandate required coverage of abortifacients.

From "This Ohio Law Bans Campaign ‘Lies.’ Today Supreme Court Heard a Challenge Against It" by John G. Malcolm, The Heritage Network 4/22/14

. . . After today’s oral argument, it seems likely that the Supreme Court will reverse the lower courts and that SBA List will get its day in court to challenge the constitutionality of this overreaching law [ObamaCare].

Two terms ago, the Supreme Court held in United States v. Alvarez that even false statements are entitled to First Amendment protection. As the Court recognized, laws proscribing generalized false speech cast “a chill the First Amendment cannot permit if free speech, thought, and discourse are to remain a foundation of freedom.” Even the dissenters in that case recognized that, when it comes to “matters of public concern”—and what could be a matter of greater public concern than the election of our representatives—laws such as the one in Ohio that outlaw false statements create the potential for abuse that is “simply too great” for the First Amendment to bear.

The political arm of Planned Parenthood is preparing to launch its largest campaign offensive ever, targeting more than a dozen states and some of the cycle’s top Senate and gubernatorial races to raise the alarm about the stakes of the 2014 midterm elections for women’s health care and abortion rights.

Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said the group intends to show that candidates don’t need to campaign defensively on “women’s reproductive health issues,” citing the importance of that message to Democratic victories in the 2012 elections and last year’s Virginia race.

The target list, Planned Parenthood officials said, could grow depending on the trajectory of the 2014 cycle. Senate races in Iowa, Michigan and New Hampshire are also on the Planned Parenthood watch list, as is the campaign for governor of Wisconsin. In the targeted Pennsylvania race, the Planned Parenthood state affiliate on Wednesday endorsed Democratic Rep. Allyson Schwartz in her party’s heavily contested primary.

Biblical Beliefs Unacceptable to GOP IL Leaders

The Illinois GOP has denounced the Christian beliefs of Susanne Atanus, a Republican candidate for Illinois' 9th congressional district.  Atanus says that natural disasters and myriad diseases are a reflection of God's omnipotence and thus a direct result of growing acceptance of sexual sin and the murdering of children in the womb.
"The offensive statements by Susanne Atanus have no place in the modern political debate, and she has no place on the ballot as a Republican. Her candidacy is neither supported nor endorsed by the leaders of our party, and she should withdraw from the race immediately.”
-- Illinois Republican Chairman Jack Dorgan

"I am not in favor of abortions, I am not in favor of gay rights," Atanus, who has staged two previous unsuccessful runs for Congress, said during a videotaped portion of the interview, before going into more detail with the paper.

"God is angry. We are provoking him with abortions and same-sex marriage and civil unions," she added, blaming natural disasters like tornadoes and diseases including autism and dementia on recent advances in the LGBT movement. "Same-sex activity is going to increase AIDS. If it's in our military it will weaken our military. We need to respect God."

Adam Robinson, chairman of the Chicago Republican Party, emphasized in another statement that Atanus "is not in any way affiliated with any of our efforts in the Chicago GOP, nor have we ever supported, endorsed, or assisted her in any way at any time."

Voters in the Republican primary will have two very different candidates to choose from in the 9th Congressional District, as David Earl Williams III and Susanne Atanus vie for the right to face Rep. Jan Schakowsky in the fall.

. . . Atanus, who lives in Niles and has both an MBA and master's in public administration but is working full time on her campaign, the top issue is the economy. She maintains that ridding the nation of the stock indexes including the S&P, Dow Jones and Nasdaq would improve the nation's fiscal troubles.

"I am a conservative Republican and I believe in God first," Atanus said. She said she believes God controls the weather and has put tornadoes and diseases such as autism and dementia on earth as in response to gay rights and legalized abortions.

Atanus's remarks further elaborted that diseases, illnesses and even natural disasters are all a result of the same-sex marriage and abortions that have become more common. The interview stated that Atanus "believes God controls the weather and has put tornadoes and diseases such as autism and dementia on earth as punishment for gay rights and legalized abortions."

The 55-year-old Conservative has already run unsuccessfully for the seat of Illinois's 9th District twice in 2010 and 2012.  Atanus plans to implement her core beliefs into the government if elected. Aside from her religious beliefs, Atanus hopes to reconstruct the main issue in her agenda, which is the economy. "I'm upset with us having no economy for the 99 percent," Atanus said. "The middle class has been robbed."

Atanus is a member of the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East and her religion is labeled as Catholicism.
