Canada Holds American at Border for Being Christian

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) was tipped off by homosexualists that Peter LaBarbera, who heads Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH), was bound from Chicago to the Regina airport en route to speak at the Saskatchewan Pro-Life Association (SPLA) conference in Weyburn.  When LaBarbera's plane landed Thursday night, customs officials detained him for several hours while they rifled through his luggage, books, paperwork, cellphone, computer files, and interrogated him about his Christian beliefs and alleged "hatred of gays" until 1am Friday morning.  Later that afternoon, LaBarbera was allowed a hearing to appeal the detention, which he won, and then proceeded to Weyburn (where angry homosexualists stood ready to "greet" him).

-- From "Speaker Peter LaBarbera wins appeal, enters Canada" posted at The Weyburn Review / S.E. Saskatchewan Booster 4/11/14

[Peter LaBarbera] was detained by the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA), and had his bags and laptop searched; the agency also watched a DVD of a speech he gave on Wednesday at a college in Dayton, Ohio, and looked at his website.

Earlier in a tweet posted after his release, LaBarbera said, after going through all his stuff and his website, “a preliminary decision was made to deny my entrance into Canada on the basis that my speech at the SPLA would violate Canada’s “Hate Propaganda” law (essentially the potential for “public incitement of hatred” against a group of people based on their “sexual orientation”).

“The Orwellian experience at Customs dragged on for more than three hours as a formal document was issued outlining my denial of entry under Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (citing the Hate Propaganda code). Finally, after 1 a.m., I was released pending my appeal of the decision today. My passport was seized until I arrive back at Customs today at noon for my appeal before a ‘minister’s delegate review’.”

From "Peter LaBarbera, anti-gay U.S. activist, allowed into Canada" posted at CBC News/Radio Canada 4/11/14

Peter LaBarbera, president of the group Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, said officials detained him because he planned to give a speech critical of "homosexual activism" and for a while it looked like he would be sent home on a plane.

LaBarbera's planned visit sparked an outcry around Saskatchewan earlier this month. Some say his anti-gay views constitute hate speech.

A protest had been planned in Weyburn for today, also organized by Intolerance-Free Weyburn.

From "Anti-gay advocate LaBarbera says he seeks civil debate" by Ashley Martin and Pamela Cowan, The Regina Leader-Post 4/11/14

In efforts to bar [LaBarbera's] speech, a petition by [pro-homosexual] Intolerance Free Weyburn has more than 1,300 signatures.

LaBarbera described Intolerance Free Weyburn as “cowardly” by lobbying the government to block a viewpoint.

“It’s the farthest thing from tolerance that I’ve ever seen,” he said. “Why can’t they just let the pro-life group have their speakers and then they can hold their own event?”

LaBarbera and [SPLA's Bill] Whatcott will informally address students at the U of R on Monday afternoon and the University of Saskatchewan on Tuesday.

Background on Bill Whatcott:
The Supreme Court of Canada unanimously ruled that citizens are NOT free to quote the Bible regarding the sin of homosexual behavior.  Bill Whatcott's pamphlets (from 2001) using the word "sodomites," and criticizing the Gay Agenda in public schools, were deemed to incite hatred against homosexual people.  The ruling requires Whatcott to pay a fine to two homosexuals who claimed to be offended, plus six-figure loser-pays legal costs.

From "Protesters promoting tolerance in community" by Natascia Lypny, The Regina Leader-Post 4/12/14

As the Saskatchewan Pro-Life Association (SPLA) prepared to welcome about 150 participants to its annual conference Friday afternoon, a couple blocks away members of the ad hoc Intolerance Free Weyburn group congregated in a square next to City Hall.

"They basically wanted us to be quiet. To not be talking about this issue," said SPLA president Marcy Millette.

At his speech this morning, LaBarbera intends to speak about the connections between the pro-life movement and homosexuality. It's a connection that sparked a close examination by some SPLA members, said convention organizer David Sidloski.

Sidloski, wary of LaBarbera's appearance on U.S. hate watch websites, investigated the speaker and phoned him up, a conversation he said convinced him LaBarbera is not a hateful man. Sidloski said his appearance at the convention is ultimately an opportunity to highlight the homosexuality-pro-life connection. For the City of Weyburn, it has sparked a different discussion: Which events the city will officially support. The council in February approved a $1,000 grant to the association through a program that encourages provincial and national events come to Weyburn.

The council will discuss at its meeting on Monday the possibilities of retracting the SPLA's grant, and rejigging the grant program policy.

From "US pro-family activist wins appeal; allowed to speak in Canada" by John-Henry Westen, LifeSiteNews.com 4/11/14

The formal document issued by CBSA agent Darren Banick for the initial denial of entry into Canada expressed concern that LaBarbera "may commit acts which would be against the Criminal Code of Canada."

Section 319(1) of Canada’s Criminal Code bars “public incitement of hatred … against any identifiable group where such incitement is likely to lead to a breach of the peace.” One of the categories of identifiable groups include those based on ‘sexual orientation’. Breaching the law carries a punishment of up to two years imprisonment.

Exemptions contained in the law include:
(a) if he establishes that the statements communicated were true;

(b) if, in good faith, the person expressed or attempted to establish by an argument an opinion on a religious subject or an opinion based on a belief in a religious text;

(c) if the statements were relevant to any subject of public interest, the discussion of which was for the public benefit, and if on reasonable grounds he believed them to be true

UPDATE 4/16/14: "Dialogue, controversy at Pro-Life conference" by Greg Nikkel, The Weyburn Review / S.E. Saskatchewan Booster

Just under 200 people attended the Saskatchewan Pro-Life Association’s annual conference, held at McKenna Hall on Friday and Saturday, with four keynote speakers, said organizer John Sidloski.

In a scrum with reporters, LaBarbera said, “It was a great crowd. We’re trying to show the issues of pro-life and defending marriage against the homosexual agenda are related. People who fought against same-sex marriage are fighting the same issues that pro-lifers faced.”

Asked about being accused of bringing a hate message here, LaBarbera said the protesters are trying to redefine the very term “hate”.

“What our message is, it’s okay to stand up for marriage between one man and one woman, to stand up for healthy identities. It’s okay to oppose homosexual behaviour, to oppose gay activism, and that’s just my moral belief. … The problem is the left, like this group Intolerance Free Weyburn, is defining hate by ideology, and therefore if you hold a position and dare to defend that position in public, you’re by definition a hater. That’s a new definition of hate. They also have a new definition of tolerance. Tolerance used to be me and you could disagree but we could have a civil discussion … so I would like us to return to the old definition of tolerance, which is me and the leader of this group could sit down have a discussion. I’m not going to try and ban him from speaking; he shouldn’t try to ban me.”

UPDATE 4/15/14: "Anti-gay activist Peter LaBarbera voluntarily leaves Canada" posted at CTV News Regina

LaBarbera, 51, was questioned by Canadian border officials Tuesday morning following his arrest on the University of Regina campus a day earlier.

LaBarbera and fellow activist Bill Whatcott were escorted off university property and charged with mischief Monday afternoon.

The university learned the men were on the property around 12:30 p.m., and they were asked to leave the campus several times.

Both LaBarbera and Whatcott have been released and are scheduled to appear in court on May 26.

UPDATE 4/15/14: "Whatcott, LaBarbera arrested" by Natascia Lypny, The Regina Leader-Post

Police arrested two anti-gay advocates after they refused to leave the University of Regina, where they had set up an anti-abortion display to hand out material about what they call the dangers of homosexual relationships.

"The materials were graphic and the materials were disturbing," said Thomas Chase, U of R provost and vice-president academic, after the two-hour ordeal had ended.

"The materials, we felt, could harm members of this campus community who we have a duty to protect and support."

Students in Regina had braced themselves for Bill Whatcott and Peter LaBarbera's visit to campus.

"I'm so saddened to hear we still have to discuss these things, these archaic views," said Rob Hillstead, a U of R filmmaking student and resident of Weyburn, who debated the pair.

"The idea that you can't have an open debate on homosexuality at a college campus and that some speech code is brought in to kick people off because they have a viewpoint that most students probably haven't heard - it seems to me it's pretty undemocratic," said LaBarbera . . .

UPDATE 4/14/14: "American pro-family activist LaBarbera arrested in Canada" by John-Henry Westen, LifeSiteNews.com

The pair were at the university with a poster depicting a child killed by abortion and a sign saying "sodomy is a sin."  A video of the incident shows that at first Whatcott was asked to leave the campus by campus security, who were accompanied by police. Whatcott responded that he had won two court cases on freedom of speech. “I do believe I have a charter right to speak here," he said.

Whatcott said that they would have to remove him from campus, because in addition to his charter right, he said, “I believe I have a moral responsibility to share the Gospel with these students.” He added, “I believe this university would not be as rich as it could be if it did not allow me to stay here and speak.”

LaBarbera, surrounded by police, can be heard on the video saying, “I would rather stay in solidarity with him,” referring to Whatcott. Then he too was arrested.

During Whatcott’s arrest a couple of students can be heard saying that he deserves freedom of speech. But many others, as the two are led away handcuffed, hoot cheers and clap.  Hate messages threatening Whatcott and LaBarbera with death can be read in tweets pointing to coverage of the arrest.

UPDATE 12/22/14: From "Whatcott, LaBarbera found not guilty" by Ashley Martin, Regina Leader-Post

Whatcott uttered "thank the Lord" after Judge Marylynne Beaton delivered her verdict.

LaBarbera, who lives in Illinois and heads Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, was not present, but "I'm sure he'll be relieved," said Whatcott.

"I find that the purpose of (their) attending the University of Regina was to communicate information and their actions were passive and non-aggressive," Beaton wrote. "The university's response was disproportionate to the peaceful distribution of flyers."

The police originally arrested the two men for assault by trespass, but that charge was determined to be defunct and mischief charges were laid instead later that same day.

Homosexual Bully Slams Pope in IL College Chapel

The anti-bullying advocate, backed by President Obama and highlighted on the White House website, spewed anti-Christian profanity in his speech Sunday at the United Church of Christ affiliated Elmhurst College -- the same day that he reiterated his contempt for the Bible on his website in a so-called apology for his anti-Christian rant of April 13th to teenagers in Seattle.
"What the Pope is saying is that the only thing that stands between my dick and Brad Pitt's mouth is a piece of paper....What the Pope is saying is that once we're all gay-married we're going to go extinct in a generation because once we're all gay-married, we're gonna forget which hole sh*ts babies."

Peter LaBarbera, of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, tweeted and posted portions of the April 29 speech made at Hammerschmidt Chapel on the campus. LaBarbera’s first video post, which was filmed by someone in the audience, shows Savage criticizing Pope Benedict’s warning against legalizing same sex marriage.

Desiree Chen, a spokeswoman for Elmhurst College, believes the event was successful.

The college invited the advice columnist, blogger and author to talk about the “It Gets Better” project, a video and social media effort designed to inspire hope in young people dealing with bullying or harassment.

Chen said the college has no plans to post a video of the speech because she does not have permission to do so. She said Savage did not grant permission.

From "Ousted Attendee: Gay Activist Dan Savage Is 'A Walking Hate Crime,' Speech Video Will Show" by Lauren Thompson, CNSNews.com 4/30/12

The media have been glossing over militant gay activist Dan Savage’s brutal war on Christians during a talk at Elmhurst College last week.

This latest attack on Christians comes just days after more than 100 Christian high students walked out on Savage after he called them "pansy-assed" at a journalism conference in California and said offensive things about Christianity.

Savage responded on Twitter to LaBarbera’s claims calling his own actions “civil” and branded LaBarbera a “liar.” He then touted that LaBarbera “bore false witness.”

LaBarbera described a lengthy list of Savage’s hateful dialogue, none of which has been published or featured in the video clips released of his talk. “He was especially obscene about Family Research Council leader Tony Perkins, declaring everything Perkins does causes gays to commit suicide. He said every dead gay kid is a rhetorical victory for Tony Perkins and Perkins stands on their dead bodies,” LaBarbera said.

From "Dan Savage Apologizes for Bullying During Anti-Bullying Speech" by Tim Newcomb, Time Magazine 5/1/12

Advice columnist Dan Savage, the founder of the ‘It Gets Better’ project — a series of web videos devoted to helping victims of bullying — is facing charges of bullying himself after a speech to a group of high school journalists in Seattle turned into a rant at several students who walked out in protest mid-speech.

Focusing on what he called the “hypocrisy” of Christians who wouldn’t condemn anti-gay bullying because of Biblical strictures on homosexuality, Savage said:
“We can learn to ignore the bullsh*t in the Bible about gay people… the same way we have learned to ignore the bullsh*t in the Bible about shellfish, about slavery, about dinner, about farming, about menstruation, about virginity, about masturbation. We ignore bullsh*t in the Bible about all sorts of things.”
That was the point at which a group of about 20 or 30 students and advisors quietly stood up and walked out of the auditorium. “It’s funny, as someone who is the receiving end of beatings that are justified by the Bible, how pansy-assed some people react when you push back,” Savage said after they had left.

From "Sparks fly over Dan Savage's comments to students about Bible" by Jonathan Martin, Seattle Times staff reporter 4/30/12

Savage's speech, at a 3,000-student gathering of young journalists in Seattle, linked bullying of gay kids with biblical denunciations of homosexuality.

In an interview, Savage said he regretted using vulgar terms and apologized for his description of the walkout, but defended his description of the Bible.

Savage said the speech is one he has repeatedly given in promoting "It Gets Better," his hugely successful project to help gay, lesbian and transgender youths cope with bullying. The project has at least 40,000 videos — testimonials meant to offer encouragement — including one by President Obama, and an accompanying book that debuted on The New York Times best-seller list.

In the speech, Savage, citing Sam Harris' "Letter to a Christian Nation," said the Bible gave instructions about how to treat slaves. If the Bible erred "on the easiest moral question that humanity has ever faced ... What are the odds that the Bible got something as complicated as human sexuality wrong? 100 percent," said Savage. Students are heard cheering and clapping.

In a statement, the [Seattle event] organizers said Savage "veered from the topic" of bullying. Student journalism "should not shy away from controversial topics and viewpoints. But it should promote and engage in civil discourse. Mr. Savage's speech fell short of that standard, and for this our organizations apologize."

Militant Homosexualists Vandalize IL Christian Academy

In an angry rage, doors and windows were bashed with concrete overnight at Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights, Illinois at the site of tonight's program featuring prominent Christian leaders, including Moody Church Pastor Erwin Lutzer, speaking truth about sinful homosexual behavior.

When administrators arrived at the academy at 502 W. Euclid Ave., they discovered a number of broken windows and door panes on the east side of the building, which were shattered by bricks, Arlington Heights Police Capt. Nicholas Pecora said. There are no suspects yet.

Attached to one of the bricks was a note, which referenced speakers scheduled for a Saturday night banquet at the school, said the Rev. Calvin Lindstrom of Christian Liberty. The note read, “This is just a sample of what we will do if you don’t shut down Scott Lively and AFTAH,” Lindstrom said.

The banquet was organized by the Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, a group that seeks to expose the “homosexual activist agenda,” according to its website. The banquet featured speaker and Moody Church pastor Rev. Erwin Lutzer and honored Scott Lively of Defending the Family International and Abiding Truth Ministries with the “American Truthteller” award.

About 30 protesters picketed the banquet outside the academy, but police, who were present at the event, said no arrests were made.

From "Moody Pastor Erwin Lutzer Holds Firm as Marxist Homosexual Group Pressures him to Pull Out of AFTAH Banquet" by Peter LaBarbera, Americans for Truth about Homosexuality 10/13/11

A Chicago Marxist group, Gay Liberation Network, is pressuring Moody Church Pastor Dr. Erwin Lutzer to pull out as keynote speaker at the Americans For Truth banquet this Saturday because AFTAH is honoring Scott Lively, who GLN falsely claims has a “history as a vicious gay basher.” At the October 15 event, AFTAH will present Lively with its 2011 “American Truth Teller” award for his years of defending truth on the homosexual issue.

In his letter to Lutzer, GLN’s Bob Schwartz writes:

“Are you aware of Lively’s history as a vicious gay basher?…In addition, as you may know, LaBarbera’s organization [AFTAH] and Lively’s Abiding Truth Ministries are both described as ‘hate groups’ by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Are these the kinds of organizations with which you wish to associate the Moody Church? …[W]e take you at your word when you say you oppose violence against gays. The Cubs are sending a message of support to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth, becoming only the second professional sports team in the country to join the anti-bullying "It Gets Better" campaign.

The video joins thousands of others posted on the itgetsbetter.org website, launched in 2010 by syndicated columnist Dan Savage [see video interview below] and his partner as a response to the high rate of suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) teens.

The San Francisco Giants were the first professional sports team to join the "It Gets Better" campaign, and several other Major League Baseball teams have signed up to produce similar videos.

This is another in a string of recent events in the world of sports that indicates changes in attitudes toward gays and lesbians.

Meanwhile, a smaller contingent of gays and supporters assembled on the other side of the 100 block of West Madison Street to defend the law that puts same-sex couples on a legal par with married men and women.

"There's a battle between gay rights and religious freedom," said Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth. "We want to give Illinois voters the same opportunity other states have had. Whether they are red or blue, states seem to go the same way."

Sadomasochistic Exhibit Funded by Univ. of Chicago

The University of Chicago provided nearly $3,200 to a "kink" student group for a traveling sadomasochistic "leather library" exhibit at the University that eroticized pedophilia, incest, and the most deviant pornographic perversions known to mankind.
“We had maybe one person who had some uptight body language about the material but nobody has said anything. We have a very supportive campus.”
-- From "University of Chicago hosts traveling kink book exhibit" by Kara Spak, Chicago Sun-Times Staff Reporter 4/27/11

The world of kink and fetish again has found a home on a prestigious Chicago university campus.

The University of Chicago currently is hosting a traveling exhibit from the Carter-Johnson Leather Library, a collection of hundreds of books and magazines including “Macho Sluts,” a limited edition “The Spankers” by Duchess of Pain, “Run Little Leather Boy” and “Diapers,” a magazine with a cover featuring a grown man wearing a diaper, holding a stuffed panda and sucking on a bottle.

The university is the first college in the country to host the exhibit, which typically travels to leather and kink shows, said Vi Johnson, who developed the collection with her partner.

“When it travels to kink events, essentially we’re preaching to the choir,” Johnson said. “Being able to bring this display to a college campus, put a 300-year-old book in the hands of a 20-year-old and say ‘Here’s your history’ — it’s such a rush.”

Americans For Truth about Homosexuality (AFTAH) sent a reporter Wednesday to the exhibit -- at the University's International House -- and came back with photos of the shockingly perverse offerings of the "Carter Johnson Leather Library," including:
• The lesbian porn book "Macho Sluts," by Pat Califia, which includes a story about a mother who engages in sadistic, violent "sex play" with her own 13-year-old daughter;

• "Gay" pornographic fiction books with pederastic themes, including one 1975 book, "Small Town Boy," about a 15-year-old boy who meets up with and is sodomized by an adult businessman visiting from New York City;
Incredibly, the University of Chicago now officially sanctions a "student group" for sexual sadists: RACK (Risk-Aware Consensual Kink), through which the traveling "leather library" exhibit was funded. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, RACK "received nearly $3,200 in university grant money to bring the display to campus."

UPDATE 6/7/11: White House Says Gay Recruitment of Kids Successful

-- From "Social Conservatives Take Aim at Day of Silence School Event Focused on Gay Issues" by Kevin Derby, Sunshine News (Tallahassee, FL) 4/14/11

According to organizers, more than 20,000 students from some 7,500 schools registered to participate in the 2010 DOS, while hundreds of thousands actually took part. Students will remain silent all day, except when called on during class, to focus on anti-LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) insults, bullying and harassment.

David Caton, the executive director of the Florida Family Association (FFA), attacked the event on Wednesday, claiming it “politicizes the classroom for ideological purposes.”

“The explicit purpose of DOS is to encourage sympathy and support for students involved in homosexual and cross-dressing behaviors whose voices have been allegedly silenced by the disapproval of society,” added Caton. “The implicit purpose is to undermine the belief that homosexuality and cross-dressing are immoral. Parents should no longer passively countenance the political usurpation of public school classrooms through student silence.”

Caton encouraged parents to monitor their children’s school to see what would happen on Friday -- and pull their children out of school for the day if necessary.

From "School not the place for politics" by Bill Bumpas, OneNewsNow 4/14/11

Laurie Higgins of the Illinois Family Institute tells OneNewsNow the initiative is really about exploiting legitimate anti-bullying sentiment.

"No one wants students bullied, but they're using that to try to create an environment in which conservatives can't express their moral beliefs," Higgins laments. "Actually, what they want to do is eradicate the belief that homosexual behavior is immoral. Their end goal is not ending bullying; their end goal is the complete normalization of homosexuality and the creation of a social and political environment that makes it impossible for conservatives to speak."

"School is not the place for political action -- at least not political action that interferes with learning in the classroom," the pro-family advocate contends. Her group is encouraging parents to keep their children home on Friday if their schools are allowing students to take part in the Day of Silence.

From "Parents and Students Protest 'Day of Silence' Agenda" by Liberty Alerts, Liberty Counsel (posted at The Moral Liberal) 4/14/11

The Day of Silence is a project of the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN), which promotes a radical sexualized agenda, including the promotion of books that encourage sex between adults and minors.

The Day of Silence has been turned into a homosexual and transsexual promotion agenda. Neither students nor public school teachers or staff should be forced to promote homosexual behavior.

School teachers should be aware that students do not have the right to remain silent when they are called upon by teachers. Conduct on the part of a student that causes a substantial disruption or material interference with school activities is not protected under the First Amendment. Students cannot learn if they refuse to participate in class, and they harm other students’ experience by not contributing to a dialogue of learning.

School administrators do not have to promote the Day of Silence. In those states that require abstinence instruction, schools do not have to recognize clubs that promote sexual activities.

From "Facebook kids campaign links to 'full frontal nudity'" by Bob Unruh © 2011 WorldNetDaily 4/13/11

A Facebook page set up to promote homosexuality to children through the "Day of Silence" organized by the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network – which was founded by President Obama's Office of Safe Schools chief Kevin Jennings – has scrubbed its site of links to pornography after several Web-savvy organizations revealed the offending offerings.

The links from the Facebook page also were documented by Linda Harvey of Mission America and the Illinois Family Institute.

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth edited some of the images, placing blocks over strategic parts of the photographs, but they remained largely too revealing for inclusion in a news report.

"A click on 'Charly's' (from Hammond, Ind.) pornographic thumbnail photo takes the user to his profile page, which describes his 'sexual interests' as: 'Anal, Bi/Straight, Bondage, Chat/Cam/Phone, Feet, Kissing, Master/Slave, Nipple play, Oral, Porn, Rimming, Rough, Suits, Toys.'"

LaBarbera noted that GLSEN promotes homosexuality, bisexuality and transsexuality in schools across America.

"One of the main ways it does that is through 'Gay-Straight Alliances,' which are de facto pro-homosexual booster clubs and which now exist in thousands of high schools and colleges across the United States."

Christian Orgs. Deemed Hate Groups for Bible Honesty

The [government-funded] Southern Poverty Law Center has released a new list of "hate groups" that includes many highly regarded, mainstream Christian organizations because of their opposition to homosexuality.

Meanwhile, the FBI reports a 15% drop in "hate crimes;" in 2009 there were less than three so-called "sexual orientation hate crimes" per 1,000,000 American citizens

UPDATE 12/20/10 FOX 32 TV Chicago "hit piece" on Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth:

-- From "'Hate' designation irks gay marriage opponents" by Krissah Thompson, Washington Post Staff Writer 11/25/10

The Southern Poverty Law Center this week labeled as "hate groups" several political and religious organizations that campaign against same-sex marriage and, the center says, engage in "repeated, groundless name-calling" against gays and lesbians.

Included on the list released by the civil rights organization is the Family Research Council, a prominent and politically influential group of social conservatives. The report by the law center, which has spent four decades tracking extremist groups and hate speech, accuses the council and a dozen other groups of putting out "demonizing propaganda aimed at homosexuals and other sexual minorities."

"The left's smear campaign of conservatives is . . . being driven by the clear evidence that the American public is losing patience with their radical policy agenda as seen in the recent election and in the fact that every state . . . that has had the opportunity to defend the natural definition of marriage has done so," [Family Research Council President Tony] Perkins said in a statement.

From "Family Research Council labeled a 'hate group'" by Sean Lengell, The Washington Times 11/24/10

Mr. Perkins added that the timing of the report was "curious" due to current debate in Congress on a proposal to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that bans gays from serving openly in the military, which he called the "crown jewel of the homosexual radical movement."

SPLC was founded in 1971 as a law firm to handle anti-discrimination cases and won notice for fighting against the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacist groups. But conservatives say the group has become nothing more than a liberal money-raising machine, and even some liberals have accused it of financial mismanagement and misleading fundraising practices.

From "Groups that helped oust Iowa judges earn ‘hate group’ designation" by Lynda Waddington, The Iowa Independent 11/23/10

Several of the out-of-state organizations that played a key role in advocating for the November ouster of three Iowa Supreme Court justices have been labeled as “hate groups” by a national civil rights watchdog.

The Family Research Council, based in Washington, D.C., and the Family Research Institute, based in Colorado, are also organizations that have sought to influence the views of Iowans, especially in the political realm. It was the Family Research Council, a national affiliate of the Iowa Family Policy Center, that sponsored an Iowa bus tour featuring national and state conservative leaders to urge residents to oust the three Iowa Supreme Court justices that appeared on the November ballot.

Also included on the [SPLC] 2011 “hate group” listing are Abiding Truth Ministries (Massachusetts), Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, American Vision, Chalcedon Foundation (California), Christian Anti-Defamation Commission (California), Dove World Outreach Center (Florida), Faithful Word Baptist Church (Arizona), Heterosexuals Organized for a Moral Environment (Illinois), Illinois Family Institute (Illinois), MassResistance (Massachusetts), and Traditional Values Coalition (California).

"Defend Christians.Org will work to form a coalition of organizations to lobby Congress to withhold funds from SPLC. A conservative group has backed out of the annual CPAC conservative political conference, citing the participation of a gay Republican group.

The American Principles Project president Frank Cannon wrote an open letter yesterday to CPAC chair David Keene, saying that his group could not participate in the conference because of GOProud's role in the event.

"Having now examined closely GOProud’s mission and its behavior since its inception, we can only conclude that the organization’s purposes are fundamentally incompatible with a movement that has long embraced the ideals of family and faith in a thriving civil society. They have further defined themselves with their attacks on Senator Jim DeMint, one of the key leaders of this year’s conservative victory," wrote Cannon.

The Conservative Political Action Conference board of directors is voting whether to permit a homosexual activist group, GOProud, to participate in CPAC again this year.

CPAC's organizer, the American Conservative Union, is under pressure after the American Principles Project issued an open letter announcing its withdrawal from the conference over GOProud's participation.

With several more social conservative groups dropping out or threatening to do so behind the scenes, ACU chairman David Keene called on CPAC's board of directors to decide whether GOProud should be welcomed at the conference for a second straight year, according to a source on the board.

"Well, I guess we're going to have to boycott until they stop embracing homosexuality as a so-called conservative value," said Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality. "The reality is that GOProud is a homosexual activist group that would expand government to accommodate homosexuality."

Tea Party Nation founder and CEO Judson Phillips plans to set the GOP congressional leadership straight about the tea party's legislative demands, after a handful of Tea Party Patriots and a homosexual activist group, GOProud, released an open letter last Monday urging Republicans to ignore social issues.

"There is a battle going on for the heart and soul of the tea-party movement," Phillips told WND. "GOProud has its own agenda. It wants to create credibility for itself by leveraging the tea-party movement, but GOProud has never been a part of the tea-party movement."

Phillips is also taking aim at abortion.

"The abortion industry is a multibillion dollar industry. Why are they getting funding from the government? Cut that off!" said Phililips.

Another Homosexualist in Obama Administration

Conservative groups are expressing concern that David Hansell, an openly homosexual man and former AIDS activist, is currently serving as the acting head – the assistant secretary – of the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

-- From "Homosexual Activist Serves as Acting Head of HHS Agency for Children and Families" by Jane McGrath, CNSNews.com 8/12/10

Hansell is the former director of legal services and deputy director for government and public affairs at the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, a homosexual activist group that has lobbied the federal government on HIV/AIDS.

Hansell actually holds the number two position in the ACF, as principal deputy assistant secretary, but has been carrying out the duties of the assistant secretary job until the Obama administration nominates a replacement for Assistant Secretary Carmen Nazario, who resigned from the position earlier this year.

The Senate would have to confirm the president’s nomination.

. . . Hansell has already used the power of the position to cut funding to states that do not permit homosexual couples to adopt children.

In a profile piece on him in The (Albany, N.Y.) Times Union, Hansell responded to a question about whether he felt “pressure to represent” the Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender (LGBT) community.

"I've been told that I'm the first openly gay man appointed commissioner in the state,” Hansell responded. “I think that it's a tribute to both Gov. (Elliot) Spitzer and Gov. (David) Paterson. I feel that I bring with me to this job a commitment to serve that community, as well as everyone in the state. And I think it’s a reflection of how far the LGBT community has come."

Supreme Court 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'

Concerning President Obama's nomination of Elena Kagan, the pervasive question whispered today is, Can a homosexual serve openly on the Supreme Court?

UPDATE 5/13/10: Argued in Washington Post, 'Sexual orientation' matters in public office

UPDATE 5/12/10: Kagan's girlfriends say she dated men 30 years ago, but now fear offending gays

UPDATE 5/11/10: KETK-TV (NBC) brings Kagan's 'sexual orientation' to the fore

-- From "The question everyone's whispering about Kagan" by Art Moore © 2010 WorldNetDaily 5/10/10

"Liberal cowardice" and "conservative discomfort" are burying the question many privately are posing about Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, asserts noted political commentator and blogger Andrew Sullivan, who identifies himself as a gay Catholic.

"So is she gay?" Sullivan asks on his Atlantic magazine blog.

Deriding the "homophobia of liberal mainstream journalists," Sullivan said the press has only one professional option, to "ask a factual question that deserves a factual answer."

From the other side of the cultural divide, Peter LaBarbera, president of the evangelical Christian group Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, sounded a similar note.

"In an era of ubiquitous pro-gay messages and pop culture celebration of homosexuality, it's ridiculous that Americans should be left guessing as to whether a Supreme Court nominee has a special, personal interest in homosexuality," LaBarbera said.

The White House tried to quash the issue last month when it criticized CBS News for running on its website a piece by blogger Ben Domenech that said Kagan is an open lesbian.

Domenech wasn't alone in his belief that Kagan is a lesbian. Numerous blogs familiar to the homosexual community, such as 365gay.com, Queerty and On Top Magazine, have identified Kagan as "openly gay."

From "The Kagan Rope-A-Dope?" by Andrew Sullivan, The Atlantic 5/11/10

There are three possibilities, it seems to me, behind the kerfuffle over Elena Kagan's emotional orientation. The first is that her orientation is heterosexual and she is merely a dedicated career person who never had time for a date. The second is that she is lesbian, and she remains in a glass closet, and the Obamaites, revealing their usual tone-deafness on gay issues, never asked and blundered into this. The third is that she is a highly cautious political lesbian who has drawn a line around her real life in order to prevent her orientation being used against her - especially by the Christianist right.

The reason I doubt the first is that the administration had a clear opportunity to say so yesterday and punted. The reason I doubt the second is that the president had a dry run on this a while back in the Domenech incident. He could not have been surprised by the press questions yesterday and he cannot be that politically dumb.

So what if the third option is correct and Obama is actually being extremely shrewd?

The president can say, appealing to the middle, that he respects privacy and has reluctantly allowed Kagan to come out under despicable pressure from [leftist] people like me. Then he dares the Christianist right to vote against her merely because she is a discreet lesbian. And so his jujitsu becomes a triumph for gay rights, and his nominee, who I suspect is far more left-liberal than anyone now believes, helps shape the court for a generation.

HIV Infections Rampant Among Homosexuals

. . . a new report out from the CDC . . . finds new HIV cases among homosexuals is more than 44 [times] that of heterosexual men and more than 40 times that of women.

-- From "New HIV Infections Increasing Among Homosexuals, Drug Abusers and Prostitutes" by Edith M. Lederer, Associated Press 3/16/10

New HIV infections are increasing among homosexuals, drug users and prostitutes who don't seek help because of laws that criminalize these practices, the head of the U.N. AIDS agency said Monday.

[Michel Sidibe, the head of UNAIDS] told a group of journalists at a luncheon hosted by the United Nations Foundation that in countries from China to Kenya and Malawi, about 33 percent of new HIV infections are in men having sex with men, a significant increase.

Even in the United States, where laws are not restrictive and the gay community was the first to tackle AIDS, Sidibe said it is "shocking" that more than 50 percent of new HIV infections last year occurred among homosexuals. And he said in the 19-25 age bracket the infection rate was even higher.

From "New CDC Report: HIV Rate 44 Times Higher Among Homosexuals" By Bob Ellis, Dakota Voice 3/17/10

For some time now it has been public knowledge (but not common knowledge, since the “mainstream” media is oddly silence on the staggering disease rates in the homosexual community) that Centers for Disease Control (CDC) figures show that 72% of male AIDS cases are associated with homosexual activity…while a survey commissioned by the pro-homosexual group Human Rights Campaign found that only 2.9% of the population is homosexual. The fact that homosexuals also have much higher infection rates from most other types of STDs, as well as hepatitis, anal cancer, depression, substance abuse, suicide and more.

From the March 10, 2010 CDC press release:
A data analysis released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention underscores the disproportionate impact of HIV and syphilis among gay and bisexual men in the United States.

The data, presented at CDC’s 2010 National STD Prevention Conference, finds that the rate of new HIV diagnoses among men who have sex with men (MSM) is more than 44 times that of other men and more than 40 times that of women.

The range was 522-989 cases of new HIV diagnoses per 100,000 MSM vs. 12 per 100,000 other men and 13 per 100,000 women.

The rate of primary and secondary syphilis among MSM is more than 46 times that of other men and more than 71 times that of women, the analysis says. The range was 91-173 cases per 100,000 MSM vs. 2 per 100,000 other men and 1 per 100,000 women.

Wheaton responds, but provides no evidence to refute the accusations below (post dated 2/25/10)

-- From "Billy Graham Meets Bill Ayers" by Sandy Rios, Culture Campaign (posted at Townhall.com) 2/26/10

There’s hardly an evangelical who doesn’t know about Wheaton College. Alma Mater of the Reverend Billy Graham . . .

So imagine the dismay of many to learn that, in an effort to educate its students, Wheaton has moved to the left, so much so that in a survey by the Wheaton Record, 60 percent of its faculty voted for President Barack Obama, the most pro-abortion, pro-homosexual agenda, spiritually confused president the nation has ever elected.

How can this be? Perhaps much of it can be attributed to a movement widely embraced by the campus known as “social justice.”

. . . Why would Wheaton College embrace such a philosophy? “…these are people you can learn from because they’re going to teach us Christians that maybe we have some blind spots here, that we’ve been oblivious to certain areas of injustice,” said President Duane Litfin.

Dr. Jillian Lederhouse, chairman of the department of education defended the conceptual framework by saying “we don’t teach our students to be afraid on an ideology as long as we give them a critical perspective. We do not have a list of people we do not read. Our goal is to produce a thinking Christian teacher.” And that is as it should be in an institution of higher learning, except for one thing. Lederhouse went on to admit that the people who were foundational to Wheaton’s conceptual framework were all on the far left.

From "Wheaton College Invites Leftist, Pro-Homosexual Evangelical Jim Wallis to Speak" By Peter LaBarbera, AmericansForTruth.com February 2008

[Wheaton College's Center for Applied Christian, CACE, in September 2007 invited] homosexual “gay christian” activist Harry Knox to speak at a panel discussion on “HIV and Morality,” as a representative of the (traditional-Christian-bashing) homosexual activist group Human Rights Campaign.

. . . If I’m not mistaken, Harry talked about his relationship with his male partner at the Wheaton panel discussion, which was titled, “Thy Kingdom Come: Christian Moral Engagement in the World.”

The following excerpt is taken from page 229 of “The Great Awakening” [by Jim Wallis, the Wheaton College CACE speaker of February 2008:]
“I support civil rights laws for same-sex couples. That, for me, is a justice issue. Many Christians, and I include myself, prefer the solution of ‘civil unions’ from the state, and even spiritual ‘blessings’ for gay couples (from congregations prepared to offer them), rather than altering the church’s sacrament of marriage as between a man and a woman, but those differences should not be fundamentally divisive. Gay marriage should not be the primary battleground in the fight for the health and stability of marriage and family in our society. In a pluralistic democracy, we should support civil and human rights for all our citizens, regardless of our different theological and biblical interpretations of the complicated and thorny issues surrounding homosexuality. New evidence and understanding around those issues could cause any of us to alter our views. But we should find common ground by supporting concrete practices and practical policies that strengthen families and nurture all our children.”

Homosexualists Issue Death Threats to Christians

Angry after Maine voters upheld marriage, homosexualists target pro-family leaders -- ironically, just days after President Obama signed 'hate crimes' legislation.

"It seems the more the gay movement achieves, the more hostile the activists become toward religious people. They know the religious and moral people are the last impediment to their full agenda."

Augusta police say the voicemail threat targeted Michael Heath, former leader of the Christian Civic League of Maine and its successor, the Maine Family Policy Council. The person who left the voicemail said, "I can tell him this. I’m a gay guy who owns guns, and he’s my next target." [CLICK HERE to hear the voice mail audio.]

A homosexual blogger passed off as a "joke" a suggestion by a contributor to his website that there might be church bombings because of Christians' refusal to support the homosexual lifestyle.

But several individuals named in the column are taking the threat seriously.

"That is what Fort Hood teaches us," said Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, referring to the attack on the Texas Army base by a Muslim officer that killed 13 people and wounded 28.

LaBarbera was cited by name in the postings on the "joemygod" website run by homosexual advocate Joe Jervis.

LaBarbera and Matt Barber of Liberty Counsel, who also is an active supporter of biblical marriage, confirmed to WND they notified authorities of the threats.
