UPDATE 2/8/15: President Obama Floods Gay Agenda with Taxpayers' Money
-- From "Taxpayer Money Will Help Homosexual Activists Establish ‘Safe Spaces’ in Public Schools" by Patrick Ryan, CNSNews.com 7/27/11
The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) will receive $285,000 annually for five years to partner with 20 targeted school districts across the country to help keep LBGT students safe and healthy.
The grant money is coming from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, through its Department of Adolescent and School Health (DASH).
The program centers on GLSEN’s “Safe Space Kit,” which includes stickers identifying offices or places within the school building where students will find “an adult’s unwavering support” for their safety. Each kit contains ten “Safe Space” stickers.
GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, says it is at the forefront of the Safe Schools Movement to ensure that all students are safe in schools. The group also promotes Gay-Straight Alliances, student clubs that work to improve school climate.

From "Hope and change 2011: Now homo and change" by Drew Zahn, World Net Daily 7/26/11
"Schools can punish bullies without endorsing 'gay' behavior," argues Mission America, an organization that researches and reports on social issues affecting Christians in America. "This is child corruption, funded by taxpayers."
"We can only hope few schools agree to this scheme for fast-tracking youth into homosexuality and gender confusion," Linda Harvey, president and founder of Mission America, told WND. "Our federal government, through this grant, essentially agrees with the mythology that some humans are 'born gay.' They are therefore willing to spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars during a national fiscal crisis to defy parental rights, Christian moral tradition, and sound health practices.

UPDATE 6/7/11: White House Says Gay Recruitment of Kids Successful
-- From "Social Conservatives Take Aim at Day of Silence School Event Focused on Gay Issues" by Kevin Derby, Sunshine News (Tallahassee, FL) 4/14/11
According to organizers, more than 20,000 students from some 7,500 schools registered to participate in the 2010 DOS, while hundreds of thousands actually took part. Students will remain silent all day, except when called on during class, to focus on anti-LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) insults, bullying and harassment.
David Caton, the executive director of the Florida Family Association (FFA), attacked the event on Wednesday, claiming it “politicizes the classroom for ideological purposes.”
“The explicit purpose of DOS is to encourage sympathy and support for students involved in homosexual and cross-dressing behaviors whose voices have been allegedly silenced by the disapproval of society,” added Caton. “The implicit purpose is to undermine the belief that homosexuality and cross-dressing are immoral. Parents should no longer passively countenance the political usurpation of public school classrooms through student silence.”
Caton encouraged parents to monitor their children’s school to see what would happen on Friday -- and pull their children out of school for the day if necessary.

From "School not the place for politics" by Bill Bumpas, OneNewsNow 4/14/11
Laurie Higgins of the Illinois Family Institute tells OneNewsNow the initiative is really about exploiting legitimate anti-bullying sentiment.
"No one wants students bullied, but they're using that to try to create an environment in which conservatives can't express their moral beliefs," Higgins laments. "Actually, what they want to do is eradicate the belief that homosexual behavior is immoral. Their end goal is not ending bullying; their end goal is the complete normalization of homosexuality and the creation of a social and political environment that makes it impossible for conservatives to speak."
"School is not the place for political action -- at least not political action that interferes with learning in the classroom," the pro-family advocate contends. Her group is encouraging parents to keep their children home on Friday if their schools are allowing students to take part in the Day of Silence.

From "Parents and Students Protest 'Day of Silence' Agenda" by Liberty Alerts, Liberty Counsel (posted at The Moral Liberal) 4/14/11
The Day of Silence is a project of the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN), which promotes a radical sexualized agenda, including the promotion of books that encourage sex between adults and minors.
The Day of Silence has been turned into a homosexual and transsexual promotion agenda. Neither students nor public school teachers or staff should be forced to promote homosexual behavior.
School teachers should be aware that students do not have the right to remain silent when they are called upon by teachers. Conduct on the part of a student that causes a substantial disruption or material interference with school activities is not protected under the First Amendment. Students cannot learn if they refuse to participate in class, and they harm other students’ experience by not contributing to a dialogue of learning.
School administrators do not have to promote the Day of Silence. In those states that require abstinence instruction, schools do not have to recognize clubs that promote sexual activities.

From "Facebook kids campaign links to 'full frontal nudity'" by Bob Unruh © 2011 WorldNetDaily 4/13/11
A Facebook page set up to promote homosexuality to children through the "Day of Silence" organized by the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network – which was founded by President Obama's Office of Safe Schools chief Kevin Jennings – has scrubbed its site of links to pornography after several Web-savvy organizations revealed the offending offerings.

The links from the Facebook page also were documented by Linda Harvey of Mission America and the Illinois Family Institute.
Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth edited some of the images, placing blocks over strategic parts of the photographs, but they remained largely too revealing for inclusion in a news report.
"A click on 'Charly's' (from Hammond, Ind.) pornographic thumbnail photo takes the user to his profile page, which describes his 'sexual interests' as: 'Anal, Bi/Straight, Bondage, Chat/Cam/Phone, Feet, Kissing, Master/Slave, Nipple play, Oral, Porn, Rimming, Rough, Suits, Toys.'"
LaBarbera noted that GLSEN promotes homosexuality, bisexuality and transsexuality in schools across America.
"One of the main ways it does that is through 'Gay-Straight Alliances,' which are de facto pro-homosexual booster clubs and which now exist in thousands of high schools and colleges across the United States."

Homosexual Indoctrination 'Day of Silence' in Schools
For background, read Schools Celebrate Homosexuality
-- From "CRHS to participate in Day of Silence against LGBT discrimination" by Lauren T. Taniguchi, The News of Cumberland County South Jersey Newspapers 4/11/11
Over 50 students and faculty at Cumberland Regional High School (CRHS) will participate in a nationwide Day of Silence on April 15 to protest discrimination, harassment and abuse faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students and their allies.
The Day of Silence is a student-led project of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), the leading national education organization focused on creating safe schools for all LGBT students.
GLSEN’s 2003 National School Climate Survey found that more than four out of five LGBT students report verbal, sexual or physical harassment at schools across the county, and 29 percent report missing at least one day of school in the past month out of fear for their personal safety in school. By participating in the Day of Silence, students and faculty strive toward making anti-LGBT bullying, harassment and name-calling unacceptable in American schools.

From "Potsdam High School students to observe 'Day of Silence' Friday to draw attention to bullying" posted at North Country Now (Potsdam, NY) 4/7/11
Potsdam High School students will be observing a "Day of Silence" . . . to draw attention to the bullying and harassment faced by students everywhere.
Organized by the high school Gay-Straight Alliance, students wanted to open up the event to all students and all types of bullying. Silence is used as a tactic to provide a space for personal reflections about the consequences of being silent and silenced, organizers say.
“Day of Silence” was started in 1996 at the University of Virginia. In 2001, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network became the official sponsor of the event. GLSEN reports that hundreds of thousands of students nationwide take a vow of silence to bring attention to name-calling, bullying and harassment in their schools.

From "Dumbing down for the Day of Silence" by Linda Harvey, president of Mission America 4/11/11
The DOS [Day of Silence] operates at the most elementary level of manipulation, propaganda and social engineering. It takes "social justice" nonsense, stirs in unfounded claims of "civil rights," adds a helping of knee-jerk anti-religious prejudice, swirls in teen rebellion, and simmers with disconnected stories of tragedy and heartbreak. Out comes a Hitler Youth product ready to do battle with anyone holding traditional moral values or even common sense.
As we taxpayers take a harder look at the strong-arm tactics of teachers' unions and their leftist cronies, let's examine what kind of product we are getting for our money. For those schools that enthusiastically back, or even allow the likes of the Day of Silence, the product is the tragically lobotomized young mind.
But it's a product that's been supported by the National Education Association, which contributes to GLSEN (and a host of other "gay" groups) with teachers' dues money. In Ohio, Wisconsin and other non-"right-to-work" states, teachers are compelled to finance this poison.

Congressional Power to Obama's Gay Agenda
-- From "Obama czar's 'homo-genda' proposed for U.S. schools" by Bob Unruh © 2010 WorldNetDaily 2/10/10
"It doesn't get much more fascist than this! It's a sexual revolutionary's dream," wrote Linda Harvey of Mission America.
Under the legislation by Democrat Rep. Jared Polis, Jennings "can create pro-homosexual programs and policies to their hearts' delight," Harvey wrote.
Polis' proposal would provide special protections for students who claim they are discriminated against because of their "perceived sexual orientation." The bill would call down the wrath of the federal government on offenders by classifying "actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity" alongside race, color, sex, disability or national origin as factors on which protections are based.
In a statement announcing his proposal, H.R. 4530, Polis said, "Every student has the right to an education free from harassment and violence. This bill will protect the individual freedoms of our students and enshrine the values of equality and opportunity in our classrooms."
But it actually won't, according to an analysis by Harvey. Instead, she said it will allow Jennings a virtual open door to set up whatever pro-homosexual programs he would choose.

Obama Appoints 'Fox' to Guard School 'Henhouse'
-- From "'Gay' activist to oversee public classroom 'safety'" by Bob Unruh © 2009 WorldNetDaily 5/29/09
Linda Harvey of Mission America, which educates people on anti-Christian trends in the nation, said it is nothing more than a "tragedy" for an open homosexual who has "had an enormously detrimental impact on the climate in our schools" to be in such a position.
The appointment of Kevin Jennings was posted – with little fanfare – on a government list of federal jobs recently. He was named by U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan to be the Assistant Deputy Secretary in the Office of Safe Schools.
"In his own writings and books listed on the GLSEN [Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network] Website, I've reported, Kevin Jennings has given tacit nods of approval to sex between young teens and adults," Harvey told WND. "In addition to that, the writings and books, many of which I've read and are incredibly graphic, seem to normalize early teen same-sex sexual behaviors."
On Jennings' own website, a biographical sketch talks about how his work as an activist started when he used a school assembly in a district where he was a teacher to announce his homosexuality.
Harvey said the appointment really is not surprising, given the pro-homosexual position adopted by Obama and Jennings' fund-raising for the Democrat.
But she warned when "safe" is combined with "LGBT" as is happening at the federal agency, "What you have is the silencing of any conservative opinion. That's what they consider safety."

Banned Books? Smoke Screen of Hypocrisy
From "Banned Books Week: Smoke screen of Hypocrisy" by Linda Harvey, posted 9/23/07 at WorldNetDaily.com
Libraries and schools throughout the country are ready once again to observe Banned Books Week. It's that special time each year when some in the library profession point an accusing finger at parents, especially Christians or conservatives who might dare to question the value or appropriateness of certain materials available to youth. For 25 years since its inception, Banned Books Week has been warning America: "Beware of the ignorance and repression of censors! They will deprive us all of valuable knowledge and freedom."
Setting aside any danger that the government might ban valuable materials, which is not happening in any community in America, let's strip away the spin and look at the facts. The supposed dangers are essentially phony. For there are several methods to "ban" a book from a school or library: someone can ask that something already in the library be removed, or, valuable books can be banned from consideration before they ever reach the shelves. This is the dirty little secret behind the bluster and outrage of Banned Books Week: private, library-initiated censorship is a routine practice throughout America.
Library selection committees are systematically purging libraries of any conservative or serious Christian viewpoints and instead, loading the shelves with left-wing propaganda and pornography. This year, the American Library Association is making a special to-do about the "dangers" of objections to "gay-themed books" especially those for youth. While it's doubtful this is an issue that keeps most Americans awake at night, it's important to recognize that as controversial social issues go, there is hardly a more hot-button topic, and one would think that all these "free-speech" advocates and defenders of philosophical liberties would be worried about any suppression of viewpoints on this high -profile subject. Don't the vigilant watchdogs of tolerance seek to protect a "diversity" of thought?
Well, the microcosm of my local library in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio, reflects what many are reporting from around the nation: Conservative materials on the issue of homosexuality are disappearing from the collection, or more often, never appearing in the first place. In researching the catalog of the Upper Arlington Public Library, I searched under titles, authors and subjects for books providing a responsible defense of traditional marriage and warning about the risks of homosexual behavior.
I searched under "homosexuality," "gay and lesbian," "traditional marriage," "Christian morality," "ex-gay," "ex-homosexual," and many other phrases. My search yielded four non-fiction books expressing a conservative viewpoint.
...And time doesn't even permit me to cover all the many offerings detailing homosexual, bisexual and group sex, nor the selections arguing for more tolerance and understanding of adults having sex with children – "intergenerational intimacy" is the new name for pedophilia.
In the section of the library aimed toward adults, I stopped counting at 100 pro-homosexual books..
