Few European Babies Leads to Muslim Transformation

The modern culture in Europe is literally dying from a lack of offspring.  To counter the inevitable, looming economic disaster, government planners see immigration as a solution.
"This is a very acute problem because for years Europe has been doing a sort of collective demographic suicide. . . . To change the demographic trends, promoting birth is not enough.  It also has to be done through immigration."
-- Vitor Constâncio, Vice President of the European Central Bank

"I have heard many times from Muslims that their goal is to conquer Europe with two weapons: faith and the birth rate."
-- Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rai

Based on UN population estimates, the number of people in the developed world aged between 16 and 64 peaked in 2010, while the number of people aged 60 and over will exceed the number of children for the first time in 2047, and more than double from 841m in 2013 to two billion by 2050.

. . . Birth rates have fallen from five per woman in 1950 to 2.5 today, and are expected to fall to between 1.8 and 2.2 by 2050.

As tax bases and revenues shrink and the number of retirees grows, governments face the choice of borrowing more or giving out less to ensure the numbers add up.

But without change, countries may find themselves sleepwalking into a new reality of permanently lower growth and higher debt.

From "Europe needs many more babies to avert a population disaster" posted at UK Guardian 8/22/15

Spain has one of the lowest fertility rates in the EU, with an average of 1.27 children born for every woman of childbearing age, compared to the EU average of 1.55. Its crippling economic crisis has seen a net exodus of people from the country, as hundreds of thousands of Spaniards and migrants leave in the hope of finding jobs abroad. The result is that, since 2012, Spain’s population has been shrinking.

Record numbers of economic migrants and asylum-seekers are seeking to enter the European Union this summer and are risking their lives in the attempt. The paradox is that as police and security forces battle to keep them at bay, a demographic crisis is unfolding across the continent. Europe desperately needs more young people to run its health services, populate its rural areas and look after its elderly because, increasingly, its societies are no longer self-sustaining.

In Portugal, the population has been shrinking since 2010. For many analysts, the question now is how low can it go, with projections by the National Statistics Institute suggesting Portugal’s population could drop from 10.5 million to 6.3 million by 2060. According to prime minister Pedro Passos Coelho: “We’ve got really serious problems.”

In Italy the retired population is soaring, with the proportion of over-65s set to rise from 2.7% last year to 18.8% in 2050. Germany has the lowest birthrate in the world: 8.2 per 1,000 population between 2008 and 2013, according to a recent study by the Hamburg-based world economy institute, the HWWI.

. . . Germany needs to welcome an average of 533,000 immigrants every year, which perhaps gives context to the estimate that 800,000 refugees are due to come to Germany this year.

From "More people in Europe are dying than are being born" posted at Phys.org (Science X network) 1/14/16

Texas A&M Professor of Sociology Dudley Poston, along with Professor Kenneth Johnson, University of New Hampshire, and Professor Layton Field, Mount St. Mary's University, published their findings in Population and Development Review this month.

The researchers find that 17 European nations have more people dying in them than are being born (natural decrease), including three of Europe's more populous nations: Russia, Germany and Italy. In contrast, in the U.S. and in the state of Texas, births exceed deaths by a substantial margin.

Findings reveal that 58 percent of the 1,391 counties of Europe had more deaths than births compared to just 28 percent of the 3,141 counties of the U.S.

The researchers find that in Europe, deaths exceeded births in most of the counties of Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, as well as in Sweden and the Baltic States. Further south, natural decrease is found occurring in the majority of the counties of Greece, Portugal and Italy.

From "UN Report: Int’l. Migration Can Slow, But Not Reverse Europe’s Demographic Crisis" by Barbara Hollingsworth, CNSNews.com 1/14/16

“Europe added the second largest number of international migrants between 2000 and 2015 (20 million, or 1.3 million per year),” the UN report stated. Of those, 75 percent were between the ages of 20 and 64.

But even with this large influx of working-age immigrants, “old-age dependency ratios are projected to increase from 26 to 48 per 100 in Europe” - compared to 38 per 100 in North America by 2050.

“Because international migrants tend to include a larger proportion of working-age persons compared to the overall population, positive net migration can contribute to reducing old-age dependency ratios. However, international migration cannot reverse, or halt, the long-term trend toward population ageing,” the UN report stated.

A 2012 analysis by the Guttmacher Institute found that about a third of all pregnancies in Europe between 1995 and 2003 ended in abortion. Birth rates below the replacement level (2.1 children per woman) have created a demographic crisis in which a declining population of young workers is expected to support a growing number of elderly retirees.

From "Germany replaces Japan as country with world's lower birth rate" by Louis Doré, UK Independent 5/30/15

[Germany] has dropped below Japan to take the lowest birth rate globally, according to the study by the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI), prompting fears that labour market shortages could damage the economy.

The authors of the study also said that women’s participation in the workforce would be key to the country’s economic future, and warned that a shrinking working-age population could have negative effects.

The falling birth rate means the percentage of people of working age in the country - between 20 and 65 - would drop from 61 per cent to 54 per cent by 2030.

Mr Probst said the country needed young immigrant workers to fill the significant skills gap . . .

From "Cardinal: Islam's goal is to conquer Europe by faith and 'birth rate'" by Gregory Tomlin, Christian Examiner 11/9/15

In countries like Austria, Finland, Ireland, Kosovo, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Serbia and the United Kingdom, Muslims are already outpacing non-Muslim birthrates by more than a full percentage point. By 2030, Muslims likely would have made up 8 percent of the continent's population – hardly enough though to tilt the scales in favor of Islam.

That figure, however, will likely be significantly higher now since hundreds of thousands of migrants have flooded into countries like Germany and France. Some countries, such as Great Britain, have also made allowances for Muslim families where a man has multiple wives.

"The main reasons for Islam's growth ultimately involve simple demographics. To begin with, Muslims have more children than members of the seven other major religious groups analyzed in the study. Each Muslim woman has an average of 3.1 children, significantly above the next-highest group (Christians at 2.7) and the average of all non-Muslims (2.3). In all major regions where there is a sizable Muslim population, Muslim fertility exceeds non-Muslim fertility," Pew [Research Center] said in a recent study.

"The growth of the Muslim population also is helped by the fact that Muslims have the youngest median age (23 in 2010) of all major religious groups, seven years younger than the median age of non-Muslims (30). A larger share of Muslims will soon be at the point in their lives when people begin having children. This, combined with high fertility rates, will accelerate Muslim population growth," Pew also said.

Muslims Force Maryland Schools Closed Routinely

In order to accommodate demands for observance of numerous Muslim holidays, the politically correct Howard County School Board voted to close schools for virtually every religious event under the sun regardless of the prevalence or absence of such adherents in the supposed multicultural school system of suburban Maryland.
"I strongly believe that our school calendar should be inclusive of the cultures and religions of all Howard County residents.  In a county where we pride ourselves on our diversity, we have to demonstrate that in terms of our actions."
-- Janet Siddiqui, Board Member

“Howard County is no longer majority Judeo-Christian.  We are made up of all kinds of people.  There is nothing to study in my opinion.  It's either all or none. I cannot vote for anything that is not inclusive."
-- Ann De Lacy, Board Member

“Once you open to that [long list of holidays], you have to honor every single one, and that becomes impractical in finding a way to serve school for 180 days.”

-- From "Howard Co. school board expands religious holiday status quo" by Kristi King, WTOP-FM103.5 (Washington, D.C.) 1/14/16

Rejecting an option that would have kept schools open on the Jewish High Holidays, the school board voted Thursday night to also give students off days to observe [the Hindu holiday] Diwali, [the Muslim holiday] Eid and the Lunar New Year.

The move to accommodate observances of additional religious holidays only applies to the 2016-17 school year while studies are conducted.

Numbers of area school systems have been making adjustments related to observing religious holidays.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools recently decided to open schools on Rosh Hashanah in 2016 for the first time in more than a decade. Teachers aren’t allowed to give tests and exams on that day or any other day of “major religious observances” such as Eid al-Adha and Yom Kippur.

From "Md. school system keeps Jewish holidays, adds days off for Diwali, Lunar New Year and Eid al-Adha" by Donna St. George, Washington Post 1/15/16

The board said its action — in a unanimous 8-0 vote — was a one-year decision, for the 2016-2017 school year, that would come as the system of 55,000 students studies the issue and plans a voluntary survey of religious preferences. It asked district staff to report back with a range of options for how to implement the change.

More broadly, Howard’s action is likely to draw attention as school systems nationally struggle with how to create an inclusive school calendar — balancing fairness, logistics and legal constraints — as their communities are increasingly diverse and vocal.

Maryland state law requires schools to be closed on Christmas and Good Friday, as well as Easter Monday. Howard schools have chosen to close for the Jewish holidays since 1979, when officials said staff absentee rates of 12 percent were interfering with instruction.

From "Howard County adds Muslim, Hindu holidays to school calendar" by Lisa Philip, Howard County Times - The Baltimore Sun 1/15/16

. . . during a discussion at the board's meeting on Thursday night, several members expressed the need for next year's academic calendar go beyond closing schools on the two Jewish holidays, to be more inclusive of the county's increasingly diverse population and to allow non-Judeo-Christian students to celebrate their religious and cultural traditions. . . . [even though] The school system does not record the religious backgrounds of its students.

[Superintendent Renee] Foose also recommended that the board hire an independent firm to survey and collect data about students' and families' religious and cultural observances, to inform the work of the 2017 to 2018 calendar committee.

[Board member Bess] Altwerger said that she agreed with the suggestion, but that the school system should recognize Lunar New Year Eve, Diwali and Eid al-Adha in the meantime. She found sympathetic views among most of her fellow board members.

Members of the East Asian, Muslim and Hindu communities have advocated for the inclusion of their religious holidays for at least the past two school years. Eid al-Adha, an important holiday on the Muslim calendar, and Diwali, equally as important for the Hindu community, have never been recognized on the county's school calendar before.

Last year after hearing requests from the Chinese and Korean communities, the board voted to place a professional development day on the Lunar New Year in the 2015-2016 school year. . . .

Because of the need for separation between church and state, [board member Sandie] French said, holidays cannot be given to students for religious reasons, but rather must be given for logistical reasons.

Outlawing 'Transgender' Restroom Use in Virginia

Who could have imagined that a new law would be required to ensure that people use the public restroom that corresponds with their God-given anatomy? Yet, a bill introduced in the Virginia legislature is being vilified for doing just that.
“. . . the U.S. Justice Department is trying to bully schools into having boys and girls shower together. . . Do you want boys and girls showering together? Because that’s where this is headed.  [In contrast, this] legislation will protect the privacy rights of the vast majority of the children in Virginia and respect the rights of those who want to be a different gender than what they are. . . . It’s just common sense. But unfortunately, there seems to be a shortage of common sense these days.”

A measure (HB 663) sponsored by Delegate Mark Cole would require school boards to create and implement bathroom policies that require students to use gender-specific bathrooms based on their “anatomical sex” and not on how they identify themselves. An individual could also request a unisex bathroom.

One supporter argued during Wednesday’s General Assembly session that, “our young girls have a right to be in the bathroom and not expect their privacy to be vulnerable.”

Under federal law, it’s illegal to discriminate against students because they’re male or female, and the American Civil Liberties Union says that also applies to transgender children, so the director of Virginia’s office, Claire Gastenaga, is dismayed by several bills drafted by state lawmakers.

But Delegate Mark Cole defends his decision to try and restrict access to restrooms based on anatomy.  He would require school boards and state agencies to adopt a policy fining violators $50, and he says his constituents view this as a legitimate problem.

Critics say self-image is a complicated matter -- that children cannot be defined solely by anatomy, and Gastenaga says enforcement would necessitate physical inspections.

[Cole] says the bill would also protect school districts from lawsuits, but Gastenaga believes courts will side with transgender people in the years to come – ruling that it’s discriminatory to bar them from the bathroom where they believe they belong.

From "Creepy Virginia Toilet Proposal Could Require Genital Inspections, Critics Fear" by Ed Mazza, Overnight Editor, The Huffington Post 1/13/16

House Bill 663, proposed by Delegate Mark Cole of the state's House of Representatives, defines anatomical sex as "the physical condition of being male or female, which is determined by a person's anatomy." It would require all restrooms on property owned or leased by the state "solely be used by individuals whose anatomical sex matches such gender designation."

The proposal would also allow schools to create a single-stall unisex bathroom or shower for students who request it.

The bill does not specify how "anatomical sex" will be confirmed by the law-enforcement officer, but civil rights advocates say there's really only one way to be sure.

From "Virginia lawmaker says his bathroom bill won't require genital checks for children" by Rebecca Ruiz, mashable.com 1/13/16

Cole refuted that claim in his statement, arguing that administrators could verify "anatomical sex" through a student registration form or birth certificate. The legislation, he added, would be enforced when administrators or authorities receive complaints.

"Contrary to what has been said about the legislation, it does NOT require genital checks," Cole said. "That is a lie started by those who want to make all facilities, including school restrooms, dressing rooms, and showers, 'gender neutral.'"

Cole said that a group of parents in his district requested the legislation, citing concern about a male student who wanted to use the girls facilities. Cole's district includes the city of Fredericksburg and surrounding counties.

'Free' Abortions Promised by Hillary Clinton

Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has, in exchange for the endorsement of Planned Parenthood, pledged to repeal the decades-old "Hyde Amendment" that restricts federal funding of abortion (except in cases of rape, incest and life endangerment) as “it’s just hard to justify” because “reproductive rights are a fundamental human right.”
“I will say, consistently and proudly, Planned Parenthood should be funded, supported, and celebrated – not undermined, misrepresented, and demonized.”
-- Hillary Clinton
However, state after state cuts off funding to Planned Parenthood as its president, Cecile Richards Asks, Who Cares When Life Begins?

-- From "Hillary Clinton doesn’t mince words on her plans to repeal the Hyde Amendment" by Katie McDonough, Fusion 1/11/16

When asked if she would support congressional efforts to repeal the Hyde Amendment, Hillary Clinton wasted no time pondering her answer: “Yes.”

Restrictions like Hyde have had devastating consequences for women. According to data from the Guttmacher Institute [which is associated with Planned Parenthood], one in four women are forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term because they can’t afford a medical intervention without insurance.

But last year, House Democrats introduced a bill—The EACH Woman Act—to challenge Hyde and require abortion coverage under all healthcare and insurance provided by the federal government. The measure would also prohibit states from placing restrictions on private health insurance companies looking to offer a full range of reproductive health services, including abortion.

From "Hillary Calls for Free Abortions for Medicaid Recipients" by John McCormack, The Weekly Standard 1/11/16

Opposition to direct federal funding of elective abortion is so strong that Democrats didn't attempt to repeal the Hyde amendment when they held the White House and overwhelming majorities in the Congress from 2009 to 2011. A 2010 Quinnipiac poll found that American voters opposed public funding of abortion by a 40-point margin--67 percent to 27 percent.

Although a President Hillary Clinton would likely face tough opposition in Congress to repealing the Hyde amendment, it may only take one Supreme Court appointment to accomplish that goal. Restrictions on taxpayer funding of abortion were upheld by the Supreme Court by a 6-3 decision in 1980 and by a 5-4 decision in 1991.

In 2009, Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a Bill Clinton appointee, said she was "surprised" the Court upheld the Hyde amendment because she believed "concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don't want to have too many of" would lead the Court to declare a constitutional right to taxpayer-funded abortion. It would only take the replacement of just one Republican-appointed justice to give liberal activists a solid majority on the Supreme Court.

From "Hillary Clinton Comes Out for Taxpayer-Funded Abortions" by Ian Tuttle, National Review 1/11/16

. . . not only does Hillary Clinton want abortion on demand up until the moment you can shake Junior’s hand; she also wants to force taxpayers, abortion opponents included, to pay for it. This is more than coercion; it’s public policy as vindictiveness, a taxpayer-funded middle finger at every person of goodwill with whom she disagrees.

Hillary is not the first Clinton to oppose Hyde. During his 1992 campaign, her husband promised to kill the amendment . . .

It’s worth noting that the Hyde Amendment is hardly a solution to the question of taxpayer funding for abortions. Money is fungible: The $500 million taxpayers give to Planned Parenthood may not [currently] be used to pay for abortions directly (according to the amendment), but that’s a $500 million cushion on top of which Planned Parenthood can conduct its slaughterous business. But at least the amendment recognizes, and seeks modestly to accommodate, people’s differences of conscience on this issue.

From "How Hillary Clinton embraced the female vote and won loyal followers" by Jessica Valenti (in Des Moines, Iowa), UK Guardian 1/12/16

. . . at a New Hampshire event at which Planned Parenthood endorsed Clinton, the Democratic candidate embraced the reproductive health organization’s president Cecile Richards to the tune of Katy Perry’s Roar, and promised to the youthful and diverse pro-choice crowd: “I will always have your back.” . . . the events mark the latest stage in what is increasingly looking to be an explicitly feminist presidential campaign.

[Hillary Clinton] has chosen to take a stronger stance on abortion during this campaign [compared to 2008]. As a senator and throughout her career Clinton has supported pro-choice policies, but she has also come under fire in the past from pro-choice advocates for what they say is language that stigmatizes abortion.

Clinton’s past mantra on the procedure has been “safe, legal, and rare,” a formulation that suggests there’s something inherently wrong with abortion. Now, though, instead of talking about reducing the number of abortions, or insisting that they should be rare, she seems to be heeding the call of reproductive rights and justice activists such as Aimee Thorne-Thomsen, the vice-president for strategic partnerships at Advocates for Youth, who has written: “What if we stopped focusing on the number of abortions and instead focused on the women themselves?”

Outside groups stepped in and the school’s board got involved when other parents heard that faculty members were talking with children about such bullying. Now the Minnesota Family Council plans to hold a community meeting Tuesday at the school to discuss the issue.

Autumn Leva of the Minnesota Family Council, a Minneapolis-based Christian organization, said parents were uncomfortable with faculty reading about transgender issues to their children.

St. Paul Public Schools approved a gender inclusion policy in March, which says staff in the school district will respect students' gender identity and provide them with access to facilities that best align with that identity.

That includes bathrooms — which has some parents particularly riled up.

"Nova parents, however, are not sitting by quietly as the school puts their children at risk," a news release from the Minnesota Family Council said. "Nearly 400 parents have signed a petition opposing mixed-sex bathrooms. … Several parents have pulled their students out of Nova or off the waiting list."

Nova is considering the St. Paul Public Schools' inclusion policy but has not yet adopted it and has not made any decisions about who can use which bathrooms, Williams said.

Two sets of parents pulled their kindergartners out of Nova Classical Academy this school year after school officials announced they'd be "taking steps to support a student who is gender non-conforming."

In October, the school told parents it was planning to hold classroom conversations around a series of books about gender nonconformity in order to make the boy feel accepted and included. A large number of parents opted out of the sessions, which were revised to a reading of a passage about children whose gender identities don't align with gender norms.

School leaders since have organized a task force to consider curricular changes, adopted a resolution of support and held an information session about gender identity.

Jamie Knippel, who has three children attending Nova, doesn't understand why the school in St. Paul's West End has paid special attention to gender-nonconforming students. She said it should be enough for the school to teach all kids to be kind to each other and then address bullying case by case.

Roger Holly, a Baptist minister, was fired from his job as maintenance worker at the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park because he unnoticeably baptized a park visitor in the Pacific Ocean during lunch.  Holly has since filed a federal lawsuit against the Department of the Interior for being fired by the National Park Service, and for being told not to discuss religion with the public and being restricted from reading his Bible at lunchtime.

He says he was out of uniform at the time and simply helped dunk the visitor into the ocean.

"The religious 'ceremony' Holly performed did not include any outward, objective display of religion, such as reading sacred texts, public prayer, sermonizing or the like," the complaint states. "It simply appeared that two persons were swimming in the ocean, much like other park visitors."

Holly says no other members of the public were involved or raised an issue about the baptism. He claims that one of his former coworkers, a Native American woman, is allowed to display spiritually symbolic feathers in her Park Service vehicle, but his supervisor, defendant Robert Kier, interrogated him about the baptism.

He is represented by Alan J. Reinach with the Church State Council, of Westlake Village.

'Gay Gene' Theory Countered by Federal Gov't Study

Once again, President Obama's health agency couldn't find even 2% of America as homosexual, and the agency's just-released study even raises doubts that sexual orientation is "hard wired."
". . . individuals’ sexual behavior is not always consistent with whom they are attracted to or whom they form sexual relationships with—persons of one’s same sex, the opposite sex, or both sexes. For example, some research suggests that within the subgroup of individuals that identify as bisexual, there is considerable variation in both sexual attraction and sexual behavior with opposite-sex and same-sex partners."

Among those [respondents] aged 18–44 . . . 1.3% of women and 1.9% of men said they were “homosexual, gay, or lesbian”; 5.5% of women and 2.0% of men said they were bisexual; and 0.9% of women and 1.0% of men said “don’t know” or “refused” (i.e., “did not report”) on sexual orientation. Sexual attraction and sexual orientation correlate closely but not completely with reports of sexual behavior. From "Women in US 'three times more likely to say they're bisexual'" by AFP posted at Yahoo News 1/7/16

Women in the United States are about three times as likely as men to say they are bisexual, and increasing numbers of them say they have had sexual contact with other females, new data showed Thursday.

Among women, 5.5 percent said they are bisexual, compared to two percent of men.

Compared to the same survey taken from 2006-2010, researchers found "significantly higher percentages of women in the 2011–2013" reporting that they had had same-sex sexual contact.

From "Bisexuality Is Trending among Americans, Especially Women" by Jack M. Robinson, States Chronicle 1/8/16

The CDC’s sexuality report, as well as their questionnaire, were highly praised by experts nation-wide, and even by the [HRC] Human Rights Campaign [a gay-rights, LGBTQ advocate], as one of the most accurate studies of its sort ever performed.

Experts were impressed by the accuracy and high specificity of the questions presented by the CDC, which differentiated between parameters like sexual behavior, sexual attraction, and sexual orientation, and even allowed responders to answer with a relative attraction level towards both genders in particular.

Subjects were chosen to be aged between 18 and 44, all throughout the entire nation. The researchers had a sample of 9,000 participants, which they then presented with the questionnaire.

The percentage of bisexual men only increased by .8% from the previous study performed a few years ago, but the percentage of bisexual women increased by a whopping 40%.

. . . Similar to previous surveys the group conducted, 1.3% of women and 1.9% of men said they were homosexual.

The finding that women were more likely than men to say they were bisexual is consistent with what previous studies have found, said Casey E. Copen, demographer at the CDC National Center for Health Statistics and lead author of the study, which was published on Thursday.

Women were also more likely than men to report having same-sex sexual contact. Compared with 17.4% of women, only 6.2% of men said they had ever had this activity.

As awareness about bisexuality has grown over the years, it could be getting easier for people to label themselves as bisexual, said Debby Herbenick, associate professor at Indiana University and author of the book "Sex Made Easy," who was not involved in the study.

ACLU Stops Godless Patriotism in New Jersey School

Local parents and citizens are furious that the post-9/11 tradition of saying “God bless America” following the Pledge of Allegiance was immediately dropped after atheists threatened the Haddon Heights School District of Camden County, NJ in suburban Philadelphia.
“It never, to us, invoked any type of religious intentions. It was basically a patriotic gesture that the boys and girls were doing.”

-- From "ACLU to school: No 'God bless America' after pledge" by The Associated Press 1/5/16

A southern New Jersey elementary school will no longer require its students to say "God bless America" following the Pledge of Allegiance after the state's chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union asked the school to stop the practice.

But Glenview Elementary School Principal Sam Sassano said that officials won't prevent the school's 265 students from saying the phrase, which he said has become part of the Haddon Heights school's culture since 9/11.

Sassano said in a letter to parents that the practice is patriotic and does not advance any religious message. However, he said, the school will explore "alternative methods" of honoring victims of the Sept. 11 tragedy.

A borough elementary school recently received a letter from New Jersey's American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) asking them to stop requiring students to say "God bless America" after reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Glenview Elementary School received the letter because the ACLU states that saying "God bless America" is unconstitutional.

"It is improper and unconstitutional for public school officials to have elementary school students invoking God's blessing," Ed Barocas, legal director of the ACLU's New Jersey branch, said Tuesday. "Students have the right to engage in religious messages on their own time, but not during official school assembly led by school officials."

[Principal] Sassano said Monday that the tradition, one the school has never formally taught to nor required of students, began with two kindergarten teachers who wished to show support to first responders and victims in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.

The teachers who began the tradition are no longer with the school, he added.

Parents, he said, have called to express disappointment but have largely been understanding. Many parents, he added, said they would tell their children to continue saying "God bless America" after reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and the school would not prevent them from doing so.

Hector Diaz, whose stepson is a student at the school, said "too many rules and regulations" were changing the nation for the worse.

Nullify 'Gay Marriage:' S. Carolina; Other States

Conservative state legislatures across America will consider various measures in 2016 to counteract effects of the 2015 Supreme Court decision that redefined marriage, including a bill in South Carolina aimed at nullifying the same-sex "marriage" ruling.

There are 22 states with laws barring discrimination based on sexual orientation and 21 with laws limiting the government's ability to burden the free exercise of religion. But just four states — Connecticut, Rhode Island, Illinois and New Mexico — have both.

The ACLU will be seeking to expand the list of places barring discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. It's targeting at least a half dozen states — Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania — that have Republican-led legislatures and also may be pivotal in presidential elections.

The Family Research Council, which opposed the Houston ordinance, is supporting state measures that would grant broad protections "from government discrimination" against people "who have a sincere belief — religious or not — in natural marriage," said Quena Gonzalez, the group's director of state and local affairs.

From "Spartanburg County lawmaker files bill to get rid of same-sex marriage" by Zach Fox, Spartanburg Herald Journal 1/5/16

[South Carolina state] Rep. Bill Chumley, R-Woodruff, and Rep. Mike Burns, R-Taylors, pre-filed a bill in the House to define marriage as between one man and one woman. He also aims for his bill to invalidate same-sex marriages in South Carolina. The bill is titled as the South Carolina Natural Marriage Defense Act.

"I represent the people, and the people have shown several times that they are opposed to this, and are in favor of traditional marriage," Chumley said.

The bill also proposes the South Carolina Attorney General to represent state officials in lawsuits relating to same sex-marriages.

The Supreme Court ruling in June legalizing same-sex marriage came down to a 5 to 4 vote, Chumley said. He said the split vote was indicative of the views of all Americans.

"Apparently, those four people believe like we do," he said. "I do believe that something that's a close vote like that sends a message, it's not cut and dry."

From "South Carolina Bill Seeks to Nullify SCOTUS Opinion on Marriage" posted at Tenth Amendment Center 12/9/15

. . . [The House Bill H4513] legislation declares “It is the policy of the State of South Carolina to defend natural marriage as recognized by the people of this State in the Constitution and laws of the State of South Carolina.”

It further asserts, “Natural marriage between one man and one woman as recognized by the people of this State remains the law in South Carolina, regardless of any court decision to the contrary. A court decision purporting to strike down natural marriage, including Obergefell v. Hodges, 135 S.Ct. 2584 (2015), is unauthoritative, void, and of no effect.”

H4513 would also prohibit state agencies from enforcing any court order that has the effect of violating South Carolina’s laws protecting natural marriage, and would prohibit the state from applying any levy upon the property or arresting “any government official or individual who does not comply with any unlawful court order regarding natural marriage within South Carolina.”

Practically speaking, H4513 would require the state of South Carolina to defend a state or local official who found him or herself in a situation similar to Rowan County clerk Kim Davis in Kentucky when a federal judge required her to issue marriage licenses to gay couples and threw her in jail when she refused to comply. It would prohibit the use of state facilities, and the assistance of state and local law enforcement in enforcing any federal rulings. These actions would undoubtedly make it difficult for the feds to enforce their will.

From "South Carolina Bill Blocks Enforcement of Same-Sex Marriage Ruling" by Joe Wolverton, II, J.D., posted at The New American 12/14/15

States, as creators of the federal government, are the arbiters of the limits of the latter’s power, and forcing them to accept the definition of "marriage" to include same-sex unions certainly falls outside those limits.

One way that states can continue simultaneously supporting the Constitution and their own sovereignty is by nullifying the federal court’s extra-constitutional edict. The South Carolina bill would take that state along this constitutionally sound course.

Nullification recognizes that states retain the power to invalidate any federal measure that exceeds the few and defined powers allowed the federal government as enumerated in the U.S. Constitution.

. . . Fortunately, Bill Chumley, Mike Burns, and several other state legislators across the country are stepping into the breach to restore the principles of federalism and limited government established by our Founding Fathers.

Supreme Justice Scalia: Gov't SHOULD Favor Religion

Yesterday, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia told students at Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, Louisiana that the Constitution does NOT, in any fashion, require that the federal government remain neutral concerning religion.
“Don't cram [that neutrality concept] down the throats of an American people that has always honored God on the pretext that the Constitution requires it.”

“God has been very good to us,” Scalia said at a speech at a Catholic high school in Louisiana, according to the Times-Picayune. “One of the reasons God has been good to us is that we have done him honor.”

On Saturday, he said the First Amendment prohibits the government from endorsing one religion over another. But, he added, that doesn’t mean the government has to favor non-religion over religion.

He argued that’s a more modern reading originating in the courts in the 1960s.

If Americans want to the government to be non-religious, he said, they should vote on it instead of courts deciding.

"To tell you the truth there is no place for that in our constitutional tradition. Where did that come from?" he said. "To be sure, you can't favor one denomination over another but can't favor religion over non-religion?"

Scalia was speaking at Archbishop Rummel High School at an event sponsored by the school and Catholic Community Radio as an early commemoration of Religious Freedom Day.

Scalia said that his colleagues on the Supreme Court often spend a lot of time deciding if the government favors religion over non-religion in many of their rulings.

From "Scalia says God is 'very good' to US because US honors him, dismisses religious neutrality" by Rebecca Santana, Associated Press 1/2/16

He also said there is "nothing wrong" with the idea of presidents and others invoking God in speeches. He said God has been good to America because Americans have honored him.

Scalia said during the Sept. 11 attacks he was in Rome at a conference. The next morning, after a speech by President George W. Bush in which he invoked God and asked for his blessing, Scalia said many of the other judges approached him and said they wished their presidents or prime ministers would do the same.

"God has been very good to us. That we won the revolution was extraordinary. The Battle of Midway was extraordinary. I think one of the reasons God has been good to us is that we have done him honor. Unlike the other countries of the world that do not even invoke his name we do him honor. In presidential addresses, in Thanksgiving proclamations and in many other ways," Scalia said.

"There is nothing wrong with that and do not let anybody tell you that there is anything wrong with that," he added.

From "Government can, should, support religion, Justice Antonin Scalia tells Metairie crowd" by Robert McClendon, The Times-Picayune 1/2/16

Government support for religion is not only justified by the Constitution, it was the norm for hundreds of years and it helped the United States become a free and prosperous nation, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said Saturday in Metairie.

The Constitution's First Amendment protects the free practice of religion and forbids the government from playing favorites among the various sects, Scalia said, but that doesn't mean the government can't favor religion over nonreligion.

That was never the case historically, he said. It didn't become the law of the land until the 60s, Scalia said, when he said activist judges attempted to resolve the question of government support of religion by imposing their own abstract rule rather than simply observing common practice.

At the time the Constitution was written, religion was ubiquitous. Scalia noted that Thomas Jefferson, who first invoked the idea of a "wall of separation between church and state," also penned Virginia's religious freedom law, founded a university with dedicated religious space and, in writing the Declaration of Independence, regularly invoked God.

Air Force Rejects Atheists' Demands Against Prayer

Mikey Weinstein, president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), made another of his obligatory complaints, this time about the Air Force Academy football Falcons' tradition of kneeling in the end zone for prayer.  In response, the Air Force "found the football players’ actions to be consistent with Air Force Instruction 1-1 and its guidance on the free exercise of religion and religious accommodation."  So now, the MRFF is considering action to seek an injunction in federal court.

“This end zone praying is just another territorial conquest of the religious Christian right,” MRFF founder and president Mikey Weinstein said. “This stands in a long line of conservative Christian acts like this.”

Because of the complaint, the academy is conducting a review of the situation.

“The Air Force Academy Inspector General opened a third-party complaint and referred the issue to the athletic department for an informal inquiry,” an Air Force spokesperson said in an email.

The players are not being required, compelled or forced to pray by any program or academy official. Rather, according to the academy’s official stance, they do it of their own volition.

The U.S. Air Force Academy has ruled football players' prayers in the end zone at games is allowed under its rule dictating religious practice and observance.

Here's the academy's ruling:
The United States Air Force Academy places a high value on the rights of its members to observe the tenets of their respective religion or to observe no religion at all. Recently the United States Air Force Academy received a complaint about its football players kneeling in prayer. An inquiry was initiated, which found the football player's actions to be consistent with Air Force Instruction 1-1 and its guidance on the free exercise of religion and religious accommodation. The United States Air Force Academy will continue to reaffirm to cadets that all Airmen are free to practice the religion of their choice or subscribe to no religious belief at all. The players may confidently practice their own beliefs without pressure to participate in the practices of others.

From "[MRFF] Foundation is on the wrong side of history and the law" by Michael Berry, Esq., Liberty Institute (posted at Colorado Springs Gazette) 12/27/15

For years, football players at the Air Force Academy have knelt in the end zone and prayed before each game. Their voluntary, personal prayers, which cannot be heard by spectators, are a private act of devotion that should be respected. . . .

To its credit, the Air Force Academy has not resorted to the sort of knee-jerk response Weinstein seeks. Instead of issuing a unilateral ban on prayer, as MRFF requested, the academy wisely referred the matter to the proper legal entities for review.

The Constitution, federal case law and military regulations all protect the right of service members to freely exercise their religious beliefs or no belief at all. This includes religious expression, while on duty and in uniform, such as prayer before a football game.

All Ladies' Rooms Open to Men: Washington State

The state government of Washington just became the first in the nation to make it illegal to stop any man from entering and using restrooms, locker rooms, showers, etc. labeled for women/females/girls.  The Washington State Human Rights Commission acted unilaterally in order to grant "equality" to those who are confused about their sexuality, but now the "door is open" to a variety of sexual predators as well.

If a man says he is a woman and walks into the women’s restroom, it is now illegal for a business owner to intervene. That is the result of a new rule created by the Washington State Human Rights Commission that went into effect Dec. 26.

The issue has been heating up in Washington for a while now. School boards throughout Washington State have been wrestling with the matter.

However, this is the first statewide mandate that forces businesses to cooperate with a customer’s confusion about his or her gender.

From "Women's locker rooms and other facilities now open to men" by Robert Monteleone, Staff Writer, Columbia Basin Herald (Moses Lake, WA) 12/31/15

The rule, WSR 15-11-104, states, "all covered entities, except school districts...shall allow individuals the use of restrooms, locker rooms, dressing rooms...that are consistent with that individual's gender identity." The rule was not enacted by the state Legislature, but has the same force as a law.

The rule prohibits owners/management from requiring "use inconsistent with gender identity" and, "if another person expresses concern or discomfort about a person who uses a facility that is consistent with the person’s gender identity, the person expressing discomfort should be directed to a separate or gender neutral facility, if available."

In other words, if a female in the women's room felt uncomfortable by the presence of a male with gender dysphoria, she would be the one, by rule, asked to use a different restroom.

When asked "What defines a woman?," Laura Lindstrand, policy analyst for the Washington State Human Rights Commission, said the person simply "has to identify as a woman."

Lindstrand said she was unable to answer whether or not there should be a legal, not biological, definition of 'woman.'

From "Transgenders in Washington state to use restrooms based on identity, not anatomy, commission rules" by Valerie Richardson, The Washington Times 12/31/15

State legislators are already working to draft bills in reaction to the Washington State Human Rights Commission’s newly enacted rules, saying the panel overstepped its authority by leaving the Legislature out of such a major change in policy and understanding.

The commission took action after an eight-month dispute over transgender access at the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap counties, which at first allowed and then prohibited opposite-sex use of bathrooms, showers and locker rooms.

Emily Chiang, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington, described the action as a clarification of the 2006 Washington Law Against Discrimination, not a wholesale change.

“What they’ve done is basically clarify existing Washington state law, which already prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity,” Ms. Chiang said in an email. “So, it wouldn’t really make sense for the Legislature to be involved, the HRC action is designed to give additional guidance to people looking to understand the state law.”

[Republican state Rep. Graham Hunt] said the commission’s rule poses a threat to public safety by making it virtually impossible to stop sexual predators from taking advantage of the law to gain access to women’s restrooms and other facilities.
