'Gay Gene' Theory Countered by Federal Gov't Study

Once again, President Obama's health agency couldn't find even 2% of America as homosexual, and the agency's just-released study even raises doubts that sexual orientation is "hard wired."
". . . individuals’ sexual behavior is not always consistent with whom they are attracted to or whom they form sexual relationships with—persons of one’s same sex, the opposite sex, or both sexes. For example, some research suggests that within the subgroup of individuals that identify as bisexual, there is considerable variation in both sexual attraction and sexual behavior with opposite-sex and same-sex partners."

Among those [respondents] aged 18–44 . . . 1.3% of women and 1.9% of men said they were “homosexual, gay, or lesbian”; 5.5% of women and 2.0% of men said they were bisexual; and 0.9% of women and 1.0% of men said “don’t know” or “refused” (i.e., “did not report”) on sexual orientation. Sexual attraction and sexual orientation correlate closely but not completely with reports of sexual behavior. Sexual behavior, sexual attraction, and sexual orientation vary by age, marital or cohabiting status, education, and race and Hispanic origin.

From "Women in US 'three times more likely to say they're bisexual'" by AFP posted at Yahoo News 1/7/16

Women in the United States are about three times as likely as men to say they are bisexual, and increasing numbers of them say they have had sexual contact with other females, new data showed Thursday.

Among women, 5.5 percent said they are bisexual, compared to two percent of men.

Compared to the same survey taken from 2006-2010, researchers found "significantly higher percentages of women in the 2011–2013" reporting that they had had same-sex sexual contact.

The CDC’s sexuality report, as well as their questionnaire, were highly praised by experts nation-wide, and even by the [HRC] Human Rights Campaign [a gay-rights, LGBTQ advocate], as one of the most accurate studies of its sort ever performed.

Experts were impressed by the accuracy and high specificity of the questions presented by the CDC, which differentiated between parameters like sexual behavior, sexual attraction, and sexual orientation, and even allowed responders to answer with a relative attraction level towards both genders in particular.

Subjects were chosen to be aged between 18 and 44, all throughout the entire nation. The researchers had a sample of 9,000 participants, which they then presented with the questionnaire.

The percentage of bisexual men only increased by .8% from the previous study performed a few years ago, but the percentage of bisexual women increased by a whopping 40%.

From "Bisexuality on the rise, says new U.S. survey" by Carina Storrs, Special to CNN 1/7/16

. . . Similar to previous surveys the group conducted, 1.3% of women and 1.9% of men said they were homosexual.

The finding that women were more likely than men to say they were bisexual is consistent with what previous studies have found, said Casey E. Copen, demographer at the CDC National Center for Health Statistics and lead author of the study, which was published on Thursday.

Women were also more likely than men to report having same-sex sexual contact. Compared with 17.4% of women, only 6.2% of men said they had ever had this activity.

As awareness about bisexuality has grown over the years, it could be getting easier for people to label themselves as bisexual, said Debby Herbenick, associate professor at Indiana University and author of the book "Sex Made Easy," who was not involved in the study.

For decades, experts studying human sexuality have asked people if they're gay, straight, or bisexual.

Two more possible answers have been added in recent years, allowing people to say they're attracted "mostly to the opposite sex" or "mostly to the same sex."

. . . 7.5 percent of women who claimed to be attracted only to men had had "sexual contact" with another woman. Among men who said they were straight, 2.8 percent had had sexual contact with another man.

Lesbian Teens MORE Likely to Get Pregnant, but HOW?

Once again disproving the fairy tale of the "gay gene," multiple studies show that teenage girls who claim the label "lesbian" are more likely to become pregnant (by a male, obviously), and self-identified "gay boys" are more likely to impregnate (a girl, obviously).  While liberals blame everyone else in society for these "unintended pregnancies," the Rainbow Health Initiative, a homosexual advocacy group, says the root causes include mental illness, sexual molestation as a child, and substance abuse.
". . . what was different for the boys is if they were ever forced to have sex, they were more likely to cause a pregnancy."

For the new study, reported in the American Journal of Public Health, the researchers used data from nearly 10,000 ethnically and racially diverse New York City high school students from 2005, 2007 and 2009. They included only students who reported having sex with a member of the opposite sex.

About 85 percent of female students identified as heterosexual and about 90 percent only had male sexual partners. Of the male students, 96 percent identified as heterosexual and 97 percent only had female sexual partners.

About 14 percent of females became pregnant, and about 11 percent of males got someone pregnant.

Overall, about 13 percent of heterosexual females and about 14 percent of females who only had male sexual partners had been pregnant, compared to about 23 percent of lesbian or bisexual females and about 20 percent of girls who had male and female sexual partners.

About 10 percent of heterosexual males and those who only had female sexual partners experienced a pregnancy, compared to about 29 percent of gay or bisexual males and about 38 percent of males with female and male sexual partners.

From "Study: Minnesota LGBQ youth have higher teen pregnancy rates than peers" by Andy Birkey, The Column (a gay publication) 8/18/15

Formerly known as the Minnesota Organization on Pregnancy, Parenting and Prevention, Teenwise analyzed data from Minnesota Department of Health data and the Minnesota Student Survey. The analysis found that twice as many adolescent lesbian females (50.9 percent) and gay males (48.7 percent) had had sex compared to straight females (23.5 percent) and straight males (25.9 percent). Bisexual males and females had the highest reported levels of sexual activity at 49.5 percent and 54.4 percent.

Bisexual females were five times more likely to have been pregnant than straight females at 8.2 percent vs. 1.5 percent. Lesbian and questioning females were also more likely to report having been pregnant at 6.6 percent and 2.8 percent respectively.

Gay males and males questioning their sexuality had the highest percent of reporting that they had gotten someone pregnant (9.9 percent vs. 2.4 percent for straight males). Bisexual males also had high rates of reporting having gotten someone pregnant at 8.9 percent.

From "Gay teens have higher pregnancy rates than their straight peers" by Allie Shah, Minneapolis Star Tribune 8/6/15

. . . a much-ballyhooed study of teen sexual activity nationwide published in July . . . found that today’s youths are having less sex than previous generations. Less than half of teens older than 14 reported they’ve had intercourse, and the majority who were sexually active used some form of protection, according to the research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

That LGBTQ youths are more likely to have had sex and to have experienced pregnancy than other teens didn’t surprise [executive director Judith] Kahn, with Teenwise Minnesota, but the extent of risk-taking behavior compared with straight teens came as a shock.

Sexual violence came up repeatedly in interviews of pregnant LGBTQ youths by researchers for Rainbow Health Initiative. Childhood sexual abuse was experienced by at least 5 of the 18 teens interviewed. In some cases, the sexual abuse led to their pregnancies.

To better address the problem, the federal government just issued an $18 million grant to Planned Parenthood in nine states — including Minnesota — to support programs aimed at reducing teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases in the LGBTQ population.

From "Higher Pregnancy Rate for LGBT Youth" posted on Impact (a gay website) June 7th, by rachel

The pregnancy rate for teenagers who identify as lesbian or as bisexual is two to seven times greater than their heterosexual counterparts, according to a 2007 British Columbian study  “Not Yet Equal: The Health of Lesbian, Gay, & Bisexual Youth in BC.”  While the average teen birth rate is currently at an all-time low due in part to improved sexual education, this sexual education may be biased toward heterosexuals.  The fact that sexual harassment and substance abuse has been found to be more common in lesbian and gay youth may also contribute to this disparity.

From "Why Do Gay Teens Have Higher Pregnancy Rates Than Straight Teens?" by Anugrah Kumar, Christian Post Contributor 8/15/15

Joe Carter, an editor for The Gospel Coalition, writes that a reason could be that LGBQ teens claimed to have sex much more often than straight teens, as 50.9 percent of lesbian females and 48.7 percent of gay males said they had sex at least once compared with 23.5 percent of straight females and 25.9 percent of straight males.

"Over the past few years evangelical churches have made great strides in learning how to minister to those with same-sex attraction," Carter goes on to say. "But there is much more we could do for teens who identify as gay, lesbian, and bisexual. The fact that LGB teens are engaging in sexual activity with both sexes at a higher rate than their straight peers may be a symptom of loneliness, an unmet need for intimacy and connection, or unresolved emotional problems.

From "Study: Gay teens have higher pregnancy rates" by David Roach, chief national correspondent for Baptist Press, 8/17/15

"Some people may be shocked by the high pregnancy rates among the lesbian and gay teens," Evan Lenow, assistant professor of ethics at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, told Baptist Press in written comments. "However, this confirms what studies have shown for years. Individuals who identify as lesbian and gay are much more likely to experiment with sex and have many more sexual partners than their heterosexual counterparts. Some of these teens who identify as lesbian and gay may be simply experimenting with all types of sexual partnerships and thinking less about the ramifications of such experimentation."

Bob Stith, founder of Family and Gender Issues Ministries in Southlake, Texas, told BP data on teen sexual activity indicates "the sexual confusion of many of these young people." He suggested the distinction between homosexual and heterosexual teens often is not "quite so clear" as researchers imply.

"In the haste to break down biblical standards, our culture is experiencing a spiritual truth," Stith, the Southern Baptist Convention's former national strategist for gender issues, said in written comments. "Once you deny biblical truth, regardless of how 'spiritual' this process may sound, you will have greater difficulty determining where to draw the boundaries. And while some of those who redefine the boundaries may not" approve of the behavior of sexual active teenagers, "they have opened the door for each man doing what is right in his own eyes."

Nonexistent 'Gay Gene' Hidden for Years: Doctors

Responding to a challenge, the Royal College of Psychiatrists admitted they had disregarded studies showing that homosexual attraction is not solely genetic. Not surprisingly, virtually all media outlets buried this revelation in order to perpetuate the baseless public perception, as seen in polls, that homosexual behavior is immutable -- not a disorder nor a character flaw.

-- From "Psychiatrists back down on 'born gay' claim" posted at Christian Concern 5/30/14

The [organization's] review follows strong criticism made by the Christian Medical Fellowship and Core Issues Trust of the way in which the Royal College had handled scientific evidence on the issue.

In justifying its new position, the Royal College cites studies that are over 10 years old. There is no explanation as to why weight had not previously been given to these. The Christian Medical Fellowship and Core Issues Trust had critiqued the Royal College's approach to evidence in their submissions to the Church of England's Pilling Report.

However, in spite of the recognition that post-birth factors play a part in development of sexual attraction and that sexual orientation is not immutable, the Royal College maintains its opposition to therapy aimed at helping people explore the possibility of change in sexual orientation. Instead it suggests that such therapy is 'potentially harmful' but cannot point to any hard evidence to justify such an assertion.

From "Royal College of Psychiatrists' statement on sexual orientation" April 2014

The Royal College of Psychiatrists considers that sexual orientation is determined by a combination of biological and postnatal environmental factors. . . .

There is now a large body of research evidence that indicates that being gay, lesbian or bisexual is compatible with normal mental health and social adjustment. However, it is eminently reasonable that the experiences of discrimination in society and possible rejection by friends, families and others (such as employers), means that some lesbian, gay and bisexual people experience a greater than expected prevalence of mental health and substance misuse problems. Lifestyle issues may be important in some gay men and lesbians, particularly with respect to higher rates of substance misuse.

It is not the case that sexual orientation is immutable or might not vary to some extent in a person’s life. Nevertheless, sexual orientation for most people seems to be set around a point that is largely heterosexual or homosexual. Bisexual people may have a degree of choice in terms of sexual expression in which they can focus on their heterosexual or homosexual side. It is also the case that for people who are unhappy about their sexual orientation – whether heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual – there may be grounds for exploring therapeutic options to help them live more comfortably with it, reduce their distress and reach a greater degree of acceptance of their sexual orientation.

From "Psychiatrists Reject ‘Born Gay’ Theory but Oppose Change Therapy" by Dr. Mike David, Director, Core Issues Trust 5/27/14

Homosexuals are not ‘born gay’ according to a recent statement by the Royal College of Psychiatrists [as they had previously denied].

It implies that if a child does not encounter such postnatal life experiences, he/she will grow up heterosexual.

The College has also modified its view on whether orientation can change. . . . Yet the College supports current legislative efforts before Parliament to ban therapy for people who want help reducing same-sex desires. They imply that such therapy does not work, though a report by the American Psychological Association to which they appeal said, “there is little in the way of credible evidence that could clarify whether [therapy] does or does not work.” They say it may be harmful – a truism that applies to all therapies. And they ignore the rights of clients who do not want to be affirmed in their same-sex attractions.

From "Less Than Half of Americans Think People Are Born Gay, Poll Shows" by Megan Gannon, News Editor, Live Science 5/29/14

[The new Gallup poll shows] Forty-two percent of Americans say people can be born gay, down slightly from 2013, when 47 percent said the same, the survey found. Meanwhile, more than a third of Americans (37 percent) attribute homosexuality to external factors, such as a person's upbringing and environment.

Gallup first polled Americans about the origins of homosexual orientation in 1977. At that time, 56 percent thought being gay or lesbian was the result of a person's environment or upbringing, while only 13 percent believed people could be gay at birth, though that doesn't mean they have same-sex attractions at the very moment they are born. By 2001, this gap closed, but Americans have remained roughly divided on the issue since then.

From "Americans' Views on Origins of Homosexuality Remain Split" by Justin McCarthy, Gallup 5/28/14

Those with college educations, whites, females, liberals, Democrats, high-income earners, and those who seldom or never attend church are the most likely to believe that being gay or lesbian is something people are born with. Most of these differences among the various demographic groups were evident in previous years, with nonwhites' belief in the upbringing and environment theory substantially higher this year than last year.

The scientific community does not agree on one unified viewpoint regarding the issue of a person's sexual orientation. According to the American Psychological Association, "there is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay, or lesbian orientation."

[Public opinion divergence] seems likely to continue as long as the scientific community remains agnostic about the question.

Also read Media Admit Propaganda Overstating Gay Population

From "Why Are Media Conservatives Buying The Homosexual Propaganda?" by Steve Baldwin, Western Journalism 5/30/14

. . . For example, many media conservatives happily use the term “gay” or “gay rights” and the phrase that he or she “has come out of the closet.” However, such wording assumes people are born homosexual, a myth that not even the pro-homosexual American Psychiatrist Association will support anymore. After years of research, dozens of pro-homosexual scientists have failed to find the homosexual gene; and the few who did claim to find it were later discredited for engaging in fraudulent or sloppy methodology. Moreover, Dr. Francis Collins, head of the Human Genome Project, enlisted over 150 of the world’s top geneticists to decode the human genome; and they could not find a “gay” gene. It simply does not exist.

Let’s be clear here so that the Fox News crew understands. No one is “gay” or born “gay.” Instead, people engage in homosexual behavior, period. No one “comes out of the closet.” Rather, they are simply choosing to publicize their homosexual behavior. Further evidence that homosexuality is NOT genetic is the fluidness of homosexual behavior. As many as a third of homosexuals revert back to heterosexuality as Kinsey, Masters & Johnson, and numerous other liberal sex researchers have all reported.

Moreover, the very existence of thousands of ex-homosexuals in America demonstrate how tentative homosexuality really is. And yes, due to the addictive nature of homosexual behavior, some ex-homosexuals do relapse just as some drug addicts, alcoholics, and others enslaved to addictive behaviors do. No big surprise here.

However, if homosexuality is not genetic and not permanent, it is therefore caused by environmental and behavioral issues that are clearly not comparable to inborn traits like race or gender.

'Gay Gene' Claimed by Pope's New Spanish Cardinal

Just when the liberal media believed they had effectively twisted Pope Francis and his supposed new doctrine into a pretzel, yet another high appointment in the Roman Catholic hierarchy has riled homosexualists -- ironically by agreeing that a yet-to-be-found "gay gene" exists, but says it's a defect.

Controversial remarks made by Spain's newest cardinal have landed the Catholic Church in hot water with gay rights advocates. Archbishop Fernando Sebastian Aguilar said Sunday that homosexuality was a "defect" that needed to be addressed so that homosexuals could find a way to cure themselves going forward.

"Our bodies have many defects. I have high blood pressure," said Aguilar, "It's a defect that I have to try and correct in whatever way I can...To say that homosexuality is a defect is not an insult: it helps because in many cases of homosexuality it is possible to recover and become normal with the right treatment."

The cardinal's comments were immediately condemned by Spanish gay rights group Colegas.

In an interview published Sunday, reported the AFP, Archbishop Aguilar  said, “A lot of people complain and don’t tolerate it but with all respect I say that homosexuality is a defective way of manifesting sexuality, because that has a structure and a purpose, which is procreation.”

He continued, “Pointing out a defect to a homosexual is not an offense, it is a help because many cases of homosexuality can be recovered and normalized with adequate treatment. It is not an offense, it is esteem. When someone has a defect, the good friend is the one who tells him.”

When asked about Pope Francis’ remark last year about not judging a gay person who with good will seeks to follow Christ, Archbishop Aguilar said the Pope was not contradicting church teaching. “It is one thing to show welcome and affection to a homosexual person and another to morally justify the exercise of homosexuality,” said the archbishop.

When reminded of the Pope's speech last year asking for compassion towards homosexuals, he said: 'The pope is very respectful and holds all people in high esteem but he doesn't betray or change the traditional teaching of the church. You can tell a person what their weakness is but that doesn't justify a decision to respect them and help them.'

Gov. Chris Christie signed a bill Monday barring licensed therapists from trying to turn gay teenagers straight, making New Jersey the second state to ban so-called conversion therapy, along with California.

The bill passed both houses of the New Jersey Legislature with bipartisan support in June. Assemblyman Tim Eustace, who sponsored the bill and is openly gay, described the therapy as "an insidious form of child abuse."

In a note accompanying the bill, Christie said he believes people are born gay and that homosexuality is not a sin. That view is inconsistent with his Catholic faith, which teaches that homosexual acts are sins.

From "Chris Christie signs N.J. bill banning gay conversion therapy" by Tina Susman, Los Angeles Times 8/19/13

The anti-conversion therapy bill, A-3371, declares that being “lesbian, gay or bisexual is not a disease, disorder, illness, deficiency or shortcoming,” and it bans licensed therapists from providing gay-to-straight conversion therapy to children under age 18.

John Tomicki of the conservative League of American Families has called the bill unconstitutional and vowed in June, after its passage, that opponents would sue to prevent it from taking effect.

A lawsuit prevented California’s ban on conversion therapy for minors from taking effect as scheduled at the start of this year, and the legislation remains on hold. A three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed last December to block the law pending a decision on its constitutionality. Opponents have argued that it violates free speech rights.

From "Chris Christie, theologian?" by Phil Lawler, CatholicCulture.org 8/21/13

. . . Two problems here. First, there’s a lively debate as to whether or not a homosexual orientation is established at birth. Christie is entitled to his opinion on that question, but his view carries no special weight; it certainly shouldn’t be the basis for legislation. . . . Second, Christie—who’s intelligent enough to know better—misrepresents the Church teaching. Whether or not a “predisposition to be homosexual” is innate, it’s not the disposition that is sinful; it’s the homosexual acts. The distinction is crucial, because if you understand the Church teaching, you can see the problem with the legislation that Christie approved.

Some people, it seems, are especially susceptible alcohol abuse. The root causes of this predisposition are not well understood. But even without rushing in where psychologists fear to tread, we can say two things. A tendency toward alcoholism is a disorder, not a sin. Yet getting drunk remains sinful—even for those who may have some innate weakness.

Now with that in mind, would anyone suggest barring psychologists from helping people to overcome a tendency toward alcoholism? Let’s hope not; such a ban would be a gross violation of individual freedoms. So is the ban on “reparative therapy.”

While the [above] statute itself was an undeniable win for gay activists, Christie’s willful entry into the fray suggests that 2016 may be the year in which the baton is passed from Democrats to Republicans in terms of an interesting presidential debate on gay rights.

How can [Republicans] possibly reconcile wooing social conservatives in the primary with any shot at winning mainstream America in the general? The public is advancing so quickly on LGBT equality that any serious candidate will have to avoid sounding antiquated – or perhaps even bigoted – in order to have a prayer with unmarried women, independents and the under-30 crowd.

“As a country we can agree to disagree,” [2016 presidential contender Sen. Rand] Paul told an ABC reporter. “As a Republican Party, that’s kind of where we are as well. The party is going to have to agree to disagree on some of these issues.”

That sounds frighteningly close to something Barack Obama might have said as a young senator gearing up for his 2008 presidential bid.

This is a common message purported continually by homosexual activists. If one is born gay then there is no question of whether homosexuality is moral or not. Instead, behavior and choice are replaced with a morally neutral sexual orientation. This perspective ignores common patterns that lead to the formation of a homosexual identity. Additionally, progressive myth that homosexuality has a genetic root lacks scientific evidence, but this is ignored because it is essential to their message.

Although unable to provide clear answers to their message regarding gays at birth, the homosexual rights movement has dominated the public arena. Media, entertainment, much of corporate America, the educational system, and many high profile politicians have effectively begun to change the hearts and minds of Americans.

Heroic Media, a non-profit organization whose mission “is to educate the public in general and reach women facing unplanned pregnancies with life-affirming alternatives through the use of mass media, such as television commercials, Internet outreach, and billboards, expressed outrage that the newspapers were willing to talk about the issue but not to show the reality of life at 20 weeks.”

The ad was produced a week after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which “prevents an abortionist from performing an abortion at or after 20 weeks, based on empirical scientific medical evidence that proves that unborn babies can feel pain.”

Heroic Media Executive Director Joe Young said he was shocked and angered that the media outlets were willing to talk about the issue but were unwilling to show the reality of life at 20 weeks.

“I am disturbed that these papers would run article after article promoting the notion that abortion is a victimless act without consequences,” Young said. “The fact remains, children who are unique individuals – never again to be duplicated – are being killed in the most violent way imaginable and they feel the excruciating pain of that death.”

More High-profile Republicans Going Gay Agenda

Joining Ohio's Sen. Rob Portman, who last week said he supports same-sex "marriage" because his son said "I'm gay," is New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie saying that he doesn't believe that homosexuals should be helped if they choose to end deviant sexual behaviors -- Christie is being pressed to support legislation to outlaw such Christian counseling.
"There is no mistaking [Gov. Christie's] point of view on this when you look at his own prior statements where he makes clear that people’s sexual orientation is determined at birth."

-- From "Gov. Christie says he does not believe in gay conversion therapy" by Jenna Portnoy, New Jersey Star-Ledger 3/22/13

Christie’s office pointed to a July 2011 interview to show he fundamentally believes people are born gay. "Well my religion says it’s a sin," Christie told CNN’s Piers Morgan. "I’ve always believed that people are born with the predisposition to be homosexual. And so I think if someone is born that way it’s very difficult to say then that’s a sin."

The Republican governor’s announcement came one day after he said he didn’t know enough about the issue to comment — and hours after Democratic challenger Barbara Buono slammed his indecision as "disgusting" and the Democratic Governors Association, calling Christie "extremist," used it as a way to raise money.

Roberts declined to say why Christie crystallized his opinion overnight, or whether he would sign a bill pending in the Legislature that would ban the practice of trying to "convert" gays to become straight. Christie remains opposed to same-sex marriage.

The bill (S2278), which cleared a state Senate panel Monday with support only from Democrats, would ban licensed counselors from using the therapy. Supporters of the ban say the practice is damaging, while critics say it would interfere with the counselor-patient relationship and intrude on parents’ rights. Only California bans the practice, though the law is being challenged.

From "Conservatives to Portman: Gay ‘Marriage’ Harmful to the People Involved and Society" by Michael James, CNSNews.com 3/21/13

[Sen. Portman wrote] “British Prime Minister David Cameron has said he supports allowing gay couples to marry because he is a conservative, not in spite of it. I feel the same way. We conservatives believe in personal liberty and minimal government interference in people’s lives. We also consider the family unit to be the fundamental building block of society. We should encourage people to make long-term commitments to each other and build families, so as to foster strong, stable communities and promote personal responsibility.”

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said in a statement that he applauded Portman for loving his son no matter what the circumstances but that he -- as a conservative aware of the social necessity for marriage between a man and a woman -- could not condone Portman’s view about “gay marriage.”

Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality . . . said, “I think it would have been a more mature, a more tough-love approach for Senator Portman not to abandon his, essentially, his whole outlook on this very important moral issue of marriage, what marriage is. I think it would have been more mature if he had maintained his love for his son, of course, but not altered his entire worldview to accommodate it.”

Most Americans Say Gay Men Untrustworthy with Boys

-- From "Poll: Attitudes toward gays changing fast" by Kevin Kepple, Susan Page and Denny Gainer, USA TODAY 12/5/12

While 53% support gay marriage, 46% oppose it. A third would go further: They say gay or lesbian relations between consenting adults should be illegal.

The question of adoption by gay men and lesbians has shown the biggest gains in recent decades. By 61%-36%, those surveyed say gay men and lesbians should have a right to adopt children, more than double the support it had 18 years ago.

However, a majority of Americans, 52%-42%, say the Boy Scouts of America shouldn't allow openly gay adults to serve as troop leaders.

Americans are now inclined to say that being gay is something a person is born with [-- NOT!]. Surveys in the 1970s and 1980s showed the public overwhelmingly attributing homosexuality to upbringing or environment.

"It is gratifying to see that a majority of Americans, by a clear margin, support the rights of a private organization such as the Boy Scouts to set its own standards for membership and leadership," [Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council] told CNSNews.com.

"Most Americans harbor no ill will toward people with same-sex attractions. But at the same time, they respect the right of parents to be the first to introduce the controversial topic of sexual orientation to their children," Sprigg said.

From "Gallup: Majority Believe Gays Can Adopt But Not Lead Boy Scouts" by Napp Nazworth, Christian Post Reporter 12/18/12

There were some partisan differences. Democrats were most favorable to the gay rights position with 60 percent saying gays should be allowed to serve as Boy Scout leaders and 75 percent saying gays and lesbians should be allowed to adopt. Republicans were the most opposed -- 26 percent would allow gay Boy Scout leaders and 46 percent support adoption rights for homosexuals. Independents were in the middle with a majority, 61 percent, supporting adoption rights, and a minority, 40 percent, supporting Boy Scout leadership.

Last July, the Boy Scouts of America announced that, after a two-year review, it would continue its policy of not allowing gays to become members, volunteers or leaders.

The poll showed stronger support for two other rights -- inheritance and health insurance. Seventy-eight percent support inheritance rights and 77 percent support health insurance benefits for gay and lesbian domestic partners or spouses. Though Republicans were the least supportive of these rights, a majority, 68 percent and 61 percent, respectively, supported them.

Pedophilia is Sexual Orientation, Like 'Being Gay'

So who looks like Chicken Little now, screaming "slippery slope?"

UPDATE 11/2/13: American Psychiatric Association changes official DSM manual to redefine pedophilia (see latest article excerpts at bottom of this post).

Mainstream media is reporting that pedophiles deserve sympathy rather than jail, because scientific researchers believe that their "child-attraction sexual orientation" is inborn, it's the next civil rights movement (after blacks, homosexuals, etc.).
“Currently, there is no significant longitudinal evidence that pedophiles can be made to not be attracted to children, and thus it can be defined as their orientation. And if pedophilia is a sexual orientation, that also means it’s futile to send pedophiles to prison in an effort to alter their attractions. Doing so is akin to sending a homosexual child off to a religious-based institution that claims it can 'pray the gay away.'”

On Valentine's Day last year, the Parliament of Canada's Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights held a session in which MPs debated whether they should institute mandatory sentencing laws against sex offenders of two years.

There to speak were Dr. Vernon Quinsey, then from Queens University, and Dr. Hubert Van Gijseghem, a retiree from the University of Montreal. Naturally, the subject of therapy entered the discussion, to which Van Gijseghem said,
"When we speak of therapy or when individuals get therapy and we feel as though everyone is pacified, the good news is often illusory. For instance, it is a fact that real pedophiles account for only 20% of sexual abusers. If we know that pedophiles are not simply people who commit a small [offense] from time to time but rather are grappling with what is equivalent to a sexual orientation just like another individual may be grappling with heterosexuality or even homosexuality, and if we agree on the fact that true pedophiles have an exclusive preference for children, which is the same as having a sexual orientation, everyone knows that there is no such thing as real therapy. You cannot change this person's sexual orientation."
There is a natural aversion to pedophilia in the United States and worldwide. But is that discomfort helpful?

From "Pedophilia may not be a life choice" by Dianne Williamson, Worcester, Mass. Telegram & Gazette 8/26/12

For years, we've been told that pedophilia is an addiction or a horrible illness or a manifestation of an abusive adult seeking power and control. . . .

The terms “pedophile” and “child molester” aren't interchangeable. . . .

But not all pedophiles act on their desires, and untold numbers spend their lives fighting their sexual arousal to children. Now, researchers are offering evidence that people can be born with a brain predisposed to be sexually attracted to children. In other words, it's about biology.

If this science pans out, it means some people are born with a sex drive they must fight their entire lives, through no fault of their own. Imagine being a straight man, for example, and being told your attraction to women is immoral and cannot be acted upon. It must be horrible. And little help is available because laws require therapists and doctors to report anyone they believe poses a threat to children.

Such research rings true because who would choose to be a pedophile?

From "Gawker: Editor causes firestorm after advocating for pedophiles" by Stella Martin, Imperfect Parent 9/9/12

A firestorm has erupted over an editorial published on Friday an editor of Gawker, advocating for pedophiles and suggesting that pedophile challenges are a civil rights issue. Its author, Cord Jefferson, fully acknowledged the article’s agenda, tweeting on Friday, “I wrote this big piece about trying to find sympathy and new treatments for pedophiles. Check it out, maybe.”

Journalists on both sides of the political spectrum came out over the weekend to condemn the piece which compares the challenges facing pedophiles to that of the plight of the gay and minority communities. The author, Cord Jefferson, seeks to paint pedophiles as an oppressed group of people, fearing for their safety and living out their days lonely and without a partner to love because adult/child “sex” is so frowned upon.

Perhaps the most disturbing and criticized part of his editorial however, is the opening lede which gives an admitted pedophile named Terry the opportunity to describe how he raped his 7-year-old niece, suggesting that it was not only consensual, but that the 7-year-old enjoyed and welcomed it. Jefferson also refrained from calling the rape “rape”, but opted instead for describing the rape “sex” and the abuse, a “relationship”.

From "Black Gay Progressive: 'Jesus Would Embrace Pedophiles'" by Daniel Greenfield, FrontPageMag.com 9/9/12

Now and then people claim that there’s a moral slippery slope, that if we accept one thing then we have to accept another. And if we accept gay marriage then next up it’s polygamy and then pedophilia. And clearly that’s not the case.

Gawker, the favorite smear blog of the left in general and NBC evening news anchor Brian Williams specifically, put up an item using the same arguments in defense of pedophilia from Cord Jefferson who also writes for The Root. It tries to prove that pedophilia is a biological disorder, but ends up making the same argument for progressivism.

If there’s anything that’s bound to lower the rate of child abuse, it’s easing our taboos on abusing children. And we can also lower rapes if we just lower our taboos on rapists.

UPDATES 11/2/13:

From "Not All Pedophiles Have Mental Disorder, American Psychiatric Association Says In New DSM" by Hunter Stuart, Huffington Post 11/1/13

In a move toward destigmatizing pedophilia, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) in its updated Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), distinguishes between pedophiles who desire sex with children, and those who act on those desires.

The former group -- those who want to have sex with children but whose desires are not distressing or harmful to themselves or others -- is no longer classified as having a psychiatric condition in the updated DSM.

The change in the DSM, a kind of Bible among medical professionals, lawmakers, and drug and insurance companies, doesn't just apply to pedophilia, but to several other deviant sexual desires listed in the manual. It represents "a subtle but crucial difference that makes it possible for an individual to engage in consensual atypical sexual behavior without inappropriately being labeled with a mental disorder," explains the APA in its DSM-5 Paraphilic Disorders Fact Sheet.

From "APA to correct manual" by Cheryl Wetzstein, The Washington Times 10/31/13

About a week ago, a blog called NeonTommy, produced at Annenberg Digital News at the University of Southern California, said the APA had drawn a “very distinct line” between pedophilia and pedophilic disorder in its new manual.

According to the DSM-5, pedophilia “refers to a sexual orientation or profession of sexual preference devoid of consummation, whereas pedophilic disorder is defined as a compulsion and is used in reference to individuals who act on their sexuality,” NeonTommy wrote.

The APA said in its [most recent] statement that “‘sexual orientation’ is not a term used in the diagnostic criteria for pedophilic disorder and its use in the DSM-5 text discussion is an error and should read ‘sexual interest.’”

Other DSM-5 paraphilias are exhibitionistic disorder, fetishistic disorder, frotteuristic disorder, sexual masochism disorder, sexual sadism disorder, transvestic disorder, voyeuristic disorder and pedophilic disorder. Despite all these things being labeled a “disorder” in DSMs for years, the actions some of them result in — for example, flashing, assault and battery, and “peeping Tom” behavior — are all uncontroversially illegal.

From "American Psychiatric Association Struggles Again with Classifying Pedophilia" posted at Liberty Counsel 11/1/13

. . . following the public outcry [this week], APA released a statement that [their DSM has] a mistake.

“Clearly, if reclassifying pedophilia was merely an ‘error,’ it would have been caught in the ‘decade’s journey,’” says Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel.

“Whether it is classified a ‘sexual orientation’ or a ‘sexual interest,’ any effort to legitimize pedophilia will provide pederasts with all the arguments they need to remove age of consent laws, and children will suffer,” says Staver.

“The APA has lost credibility with this recent blunder over the classification for pedophilia. The APA has become co-opted by a political agenda. It is hard to see the APA any other way,” says Staver. “The implications of reclassifying natural law, whether it be for same-sex marriage or adult-children relationships, are far-reaching,” Staver concluded.

Most Homosexuals Who Want to Convert Report Change

Just as California government outlaws allowing homosexuals to obtain counseling from psychologists to reduce same-sex attraction, a new survey shows that 55% of those seeking such counseling saw the frequency and intensity of their deviant sexual desires diminish.

The survey was conducted by People Can Change, an international nonprofit organization of men who have successfully transitioned away from unwanted homosexuality who now support others seeking similar change.

The People Can Change survey found other reported outcomes from counseling were:
•53% of respondents said their unwanted homosexual behaviors were reduced or eliminated
•38% said heterosexual attractions emerged or increased
•58% said any remaining homosexual attractions became less troubling
•69% said their self-esteem improved
•69% said their shame diminished
•71% became more self-accepting
•66% felt more at peace
. . . Among respondents who had experienced serious suicidal thoughts at one time, 76% said that as a result of the counseling, those thoughts became either much less (60%) or somewhat less (16%) serious and frequent. In comparison, 11% said their suicidal thoughts increased.

From "Survey Suggests Unwanted Same-Sex Attractions Can Be Reduced Through Counseling" by Jeff Schapiro, Christian Post Reporter 9/1/12

"Hundreds of people are telling us their counseling worked, they benefited significantly, it helped them feel better about themselves -- and in some cases it even saved their lives," said Rich Wyler, founder and director of People Can Change, in a statement.

"Their voices have been largely silenced or ignored by pro-gay activists and mainstream media in favor of a more politically correct view, but the experience of these men and women is real. It is valid. They can tell you from firsthand experience that counseling to reduce homosexuality can be effective, even life-saving. Their voluntary choice to pursue change deserves respect."

Wayne Besen, executive director of Truth Wins Out (TWO), an organization that works to fight "anti-gay lies and the ex-gay myth," told The Christian Post that the People Can Change study is "completely unscientific and bogus," because it is based on a survey of people who already had connections with the organization.

Methodist Clergy Buck Bible, Church - Science Also

Over a hundred New York (& Connecticut) Conference United Methodist pastors have signed a document proclaiming that they will perform same-sex "marriages" in defiance of the denomination's Book of Discipline, and are making statements concerning homosexuality that contradict not only the Bible, but even contradict medical science by claiming existence of a "gay gene."
". . . the church's stand against same-sex marriage and the ordination of gay and lesbian clergy is 'out of step' and 'behind the times in its thinking.'"

The We do! Methodists Living Marriage Equality project consists of 161 clergy members, 703 lay people and six congregations representing 67 United Methodist congregations who will risk their standing and jobs with the church by announcing their support for equal rights for the LGBT community.

One of the pastors involved is Rev. Jeff Wells of the Community United Methodist Church in Massapequa.

The pastor first heard about the movement last spring, and signed on over the summer. While signing the pledge won’t get him in trouble, if he performs a gay wedding charges could be brought against him. These charges could lead to a trial and ultimately get Wells’ clergy orders taken away.

The General Conference of the United Methodist Church, where the rules that govern the denomination are set, will meet in April 2012. Wells said that the bishops are aware that the movement has been going on . . .

From "Area United Methodist clergy pledge to perform same-sex marriage" by Nanci G. Hutson, Staff Writer, Danbury News Times 10/21/11

These clergy, and their like-minded colleagues across the country, recognize this is a controversial stand, one that has divided congregations. Pastors who defy church law can jeopardize their ordination.

The ministers, however, say the issue is at the heart of their faith.

Sexual orientation is part of an individual's born identity, and to condemn that would suggest "God made a mistake, and that's not what we're about," Fleming said.

The Rev. Charles Ferrara of New Life Community Church United Methodist in New Fairfield signed another pledge, an open letter to the national United Methodist Council of Bishops from 113 pastors across the country who oppose same-sex marriage.

Area ministers said the discipline that might be enforced against pastors willing to perform same-sex marriages is likely to differ geographically. The East Coast and West Coast tend to have more liberal views on human rights issues and are less likely to punish a pastor who disagrees with the discipline.

From "Group of Methodist Ministers Succumb to Gay Agenda!" by John Shore, Huffington Post 10/20/11

So I set up the interview [with Rev. Sara Lamar-Sterling, First & Summerfield United Methodist Church of New Haven, Connecticut].

"Are you scared you might lose your job for doing this?" I asked . . .

"No, not really," she said cheerily. "There are many steps that would have to happen in order for any of us to actually lose our positions within the church."

"But it could happen, right?" I asked . . .

"It's in the realm of possibilities, yes. But it's not anything I'm afraid of. In any account, the much bigger picture, for we who have come out in favor of marriage equality, is the fact that gay and lesbian people are excluded and discriminated against every single day of their lives. That's what really matters here. They're the ones really bearing a risk out in the world. Compared to theirs, our daily risk is much smaller."

"Have you been having to put all this together in secret?" I asked . . .

"No, not in secret," said Rev. Lamar-Sterling disappointingly. "We've been openly working on this for years. And we have our website, which is our main communication tool. We've always been very open about talking about this, and sharing our purposes and goals, and collecting signatures and so on. It's all been very aboveboard. A great many people within the Methodist church believe in marriage equality, and so we've just been honored to facilitate and advance that conversation. And through initiatives like 'We do!' we look forward to doing a great deal more of this in the future."

"How did your church take this radical move on your part?" I asked her. . . .

"They love it," she said. "They're a reconciling congregation, so they've been very excited about the whole project. In fact, I actually had to slow them down a bit. I had to explain to them how this is a process, how we needed to work within the larger body of the New York Annual Conference, to bring everyone along at the same time. But they've been absolutely supportive of this every step of the way."

"The same sort of thing we're doing here in the NYAC is currently going on in 11 other Methodiest conferences," she said.

"Ultimately, I and others who believe in the sanctity of marriage equality would like the language of 'The Book of Discipline' to be changed to reflect full affirmation of gay and lesbian equality. But will those changes be made in 2012? They very well might. But either way, it will ultimately happen. I'm confident that Christ will guide the United Methodist Church to become the welcoming, just and reconciling church it was meant to be."
