Birthing Transgender Kids: Gender-Neutral Names

Statistics from President Obama's Social Security Administration show that the fastest-growing trend in naming newborns is gender-neutral first names, thus eliminating the need for future name changes once the child "decides its gender identity."
"Today’s parents have moved beyond the dichotomy of boy and girl names. They want their children to grow up and be themselves, free from stereotypes. Boys can wear nail polish, girls can ride skateboards. It’s all good."
-- Linda Murray, Editor in Chief, BabyCenter (which declared 2015 “the year of the gender-neutral baby”)

"Think beyond the conventional choices. Any name not traditionally used for people (names of trees places, words and those that are invented) by definition transcend gender and can work equally well for girls or boys. There’s no reason that Arrow can’t be a girl’s name and Alaska a boy’s. . . . Feminism is cool again, gay marriage is the law of the land and transgender celebrities have come into the mainstream."

-- From "Is Hayden a Boy or Girl? Both. ‘Post-Gender’ Baby Names Are on the Rise." by Alex Williams, New York Times 8/18/16

. . . At a time when Banana Republic has done away with pink and blue distinctions in a children’s line, some high schools have stopped using graduation gowns with different colors for boys and girls, and unisex is de rigueur in fashion, gender-blurring baby names are on the rise among American parents.

The numbers seem to bear this out. Researchers at Nameberry analyzed the baby name registry from the Social Security Administration and found that the number of babies given unisex names like Harper, Tatum and Quinn had risen 60 percent in the last decade, to 67,831 babies in 2015.

The most popular unisex names in 2015, the researchers found, were Hayden (about 39 percent girls, 61 percent boys) Charlie (about 48 percent girls, 52 percent boys), Emerson (about 60 percent girls, 40 percent boys), Rowan (about 35 percent girls, 65 percent boys), and Finley (about 60 percent girls, 40 percent boys). Rounding out the post-gender Top 10 were River, Dakota, Skyler, Phoenix and Tatum.

. . . in an era marked by Caitlyn Jenner’s endlessly publicized transition from Bruce, as well as gender-bending shows like Amazon’s “Transparent,” the unisex baby name may also prove to be in its infancy.

Washington, D.C.'s Bathroom 'Bigot Snitch' Law

The Washington, D.C. Office of Human Rights has issued an alert for all citizens to be on the lookout for private businesses with restrooms labeled as "men" or "women" in violation of the District's gender neutrality law.

Citizens are to photograph and electronically report renegade toilet facilities to the government.  Women's complaints about urine-spattered facilities will be disregarded, and all toilet seats will be left UP!

As the debate intensifies nationally over which bathrooms transgender people should use, the District of Columbia’s city government is asking people to report private businesses that have single-occupancy bathrooms that aren’t “gender-neutral.”

A 2006 D.C. law requires businesses and other places with single-occupancy public restrooms to change signs that say “men” and “women” to just “restroom.”

Some businesses, including those that say they were unaware of the law, are being fined for an “unlawful discriminatory act.”

. . . If you see a public bathroom with one stall that is not gender-neutral, just tweet us the business name and location using #safebathroomsDC, or fill out our five question form. It takes just 20 seconds to play a part in making DC a more enjoyable place for transgender and other communities!

We will notify the business their bathroom(s) needs to be gender-neutral and follow-up to make sure it happens!

We've all waited outside an occupied bathroom while the bathroom for the gender we don't identify with was empty. Gender-neutral bathrooms are more efficient, allowing you to avoid that unnecessary wait.

Madam's Organ in the Adams Morgan area of Northwest D.C. serves up food, drinks and music on a nightly basis. But according to papers just sent to its owner, they are discriminating against people too.

“Two of those bathrooms have urinals only,” [bar owner Bill Duggan] said. “They are labeled men's room. I guess we are going to see some interesting gymnastics to use them.”

The District of Columbia was one of the first cities to pass a regulation like this.

D.C. has heard from other cities looking to set up similar rules. Seattle has reached out for advice and will enact its own regulation there this coming week.

From "Gender neutral: D.C. threatens fines for mislabeled bathroom signs" by Michael Neibauer, Senior Staff Reporter, Washington Business Journal 1/23/13

In D.C., the rule of the land is that single-occupancy public restrooms may not be set aside for men or women. They are gender neutral and must be designated as such, to avoid discriminatory, awkward or even violent incidents toward transgendered individuals.

But the 2006 regulation issued by the Office of Human Rights lacked teeth. While it won’t be flushed, the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs’ Construction Codes Coordinating Board has stepped in with a more forceful rule — change your signs or face a hefty fine.

To designate a restroom meant for one person at a time (even if it has both a stall and a urinal) for either men or women would be a Class 3 civil infraction and could result in a $500 fine.

From "D.C. Government Enlists The Public To Report Non Gender-Neutral Bathrooms" by Gerry Urbanek, Western Journalism 4/21/16

In a rather Orwellian development pertaining to the current transgender bathroom debate, the city government of Washington D.C. is calling on individuals to report private businesses that have single-occupancy, non gender-neutral bathrooms.

Some may point out that considering only 0.3% of the population is transgender, there is little reason to assume they will ever use the majority of bathrooms being made available to them. Instead it creates a much more likely scenario of these bathrooms being used by people who pose a direct threat to women and children.

As it currently stands, businesses who do not comply with these measures are being fined for “unlawful discriminatory act[s],” regardless of whether those businesses are even aware the law exists.

Toilets NOT in Restrooms: Next for Transgender

(Caution: News articles below are NOT satire.)

Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City is the first college in the nation to designate all restrooms as "genderless" by replacing men/women signage with a simple designation of the type of toilet fixtures found inside (toilets, urinals, partitions, etc.).

What's next?  Because privacy has been deemed unnecessary, doors should simply be removed so that the type of fixtures and partitions may be viewed prior to entry, but even better, for safety (to counteract sexual predators), architects' new designs should place toilets and urinals in open spaces — along hallways, for example.
“We, who are in positions of power, have the obligation to not only stand with those without power, but to stand in front of them, clearing a path for them to walk.” [and pee!]

Bill Mea, acting president of the Cooper Union, informed his campus via email that soon all the college's bathrooms will be gender neutral. Anyone will be allowed to use any bathroom, and the signs designating bathrooms for either men or women will be replaced with signs that say either “Restroom With Urinals and Stalls,” “Restroom With Only Stalls” or “Restroom Single Occupancy.”

. . . many colleges and universities around the country have been slowly expanding support for transgender students by adding gender-neutral, single-stall bathrooms around campus or simply allowing people to use the bathroom that aligns with the gender identity. But Cooper Union appears to be the first college to completely eliminate gender distinctions in bathrooms.

The policy change arose out of a yearslong push by student activists for reform and an impromptu on-campus test of the policy. Several transgender students at Cooper Union began fighting for “degendered” campus bathrooms about two years ago and were joined along the way by up to 50 more students and others who helped in various ways. Last fall, some of them removed the signs from bathrooms in a building on campus and left in their place banners reading just “Bathroom :)” or “Degendered.”

An elite American college has removed men and women signs from its lavatories in a move aimed at allowing transgender students to use the public conveniences of their choice.

The decision – effectively enabling transgenders to decide which facility to use, regardless of their gender at birth – has been hailed as a victory by student campaigners.

From "New York college moves to strip gender markings from all bathrooms" by Molly Redden in New York, UK Guardian 3/29/16

. . . Cooper Union’s decision was not the product of a bruising legal battle or a drawn-out showdown before the media. And although it took nearly two years of urging by the student activists for the administration to act, the campus of 950 engineering and arts students doesn’t exactly feel battle-scarred.

“Cooper Union has always been on the forward edge of social justice issues,” [Acting President Bill] Mea said in a recent interview. “From the start, in 1859, we admitted women, African Americans. It has always been an institution that promoted equality amongst people.

“I never got any overt bigotry or nastiness,” he added. “Some would have preferred to keep things exactly as they were. But the majority of them were very supportive. People thought, ‘Why is this an issue at all?’ As in, why aren’t we already doing this?”

“When there’s a gendered space, there’s a sense of ownership to that space,” Mea said, explaining why the school chose to remove the men’s and women’s signs altogether. “When people see someone who they think doesn’t belong there, it can create stress for everyone. So we thought, let’s just take that away.” Almost all students and faculty are continuing to use the same bathrooms without issue, Mea added. “Visitors are figuring it out pretty quickly, too.”

From "Restroom Signage" an E-mail from Bill Mea, Acting President, Cooper Union 3/18/16

I thank our students who raised the issue of gendered spaces and how they create health concerns and make some of us feel unsafe in an environment where health and safety are the top priorities in a student’s ability to learn. As is often the case, our students are at the forefront of raising both concerns and our consciousness on matters of importance. . . .

We, who are in positions of power, have the obligation to not only stand with those without power, but to stand in front of them, clearing a path for them to walk. I cannot change the outside world and how it treats transgender and gender non-conforming people, but I can change the Cooper Union environment to help everyone feel safe when they are inside our buildings. Please know that my decision comes from a personal sense of obligation to others, which is a reflection of my beliefs and, I believe, an extension of the beliefs held by our founder.

Going forward, we will identify the restrooms in the Foundation Building and 41 Cooper Square and the common-area restrooms in the Residence Hall as follows:

    Restroom with Urinals and Stalls
    Restroom with Only Stalls
    Restroom Single Occupancy

We are creatures of habit and most of us will continue using those restrooms that we normally have used, but they will no longer be owned by a specific gender. I also ask that none of us practice gender policing, where we attempt to restrict someone from using the same restroom we are using or make them feel uncomfortable for doing so. If you feel uncomfortable sharing a restroom, then the single-occupancy restrooms will now be available to you. As with all changes, this will take a little time to implement, so please be patient as we work through the signage and lock (single-occupancy restrooms) changes.

Acting President

Women's Voices Silenced: WA Transgender Restrooms

Last year, when the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties in Washington state decided to open women's locker rooms to men, citizen Autumn Bennett publicly announced that she would cancel her YMCA membership.  Then in 2016, this open-door-to-the-bathroom policy became state law, and as Bennett continued to speak against it, the political correctness police shut down her right to speak publicly, and the YMCA started firing female employees who opposed having men in the women's room.
“Morality, liberty, and freedom are still a thing in this country, and I will be damned if I let them shut me up.  I won't lie, it is a bit scary, especially the fact that they [are] seeking to find out where I work and [making] violent threats, but I believe that truth is on my side and I see no reason to back down.  This is for our kids and our future as a country.”
-- Autumn Bennett

“I let my concerns be known.  I'm a survivor of sexual assault and trauma, so for me, the danger posed by this policy was like immediately obvious.  [But the YMCA administration] weren't really having any of that, so they needed a communications director who would be willing to sell what they were trying to do.”
-- Kaeley Triller, YMCA employee fired for opposing open bathrooms

“The reality is there are sex predators.  This is just a big welcome mat. [When authorities tell us] You can’t say, ‘Oh, you’re 6-feet-5-inches, 270 pounds and you have a beard, therefore you’re a man.’?”

A group called “Keep Locker Rooms Safe,” which advocates for sex-assigned locker rooms, is being censored by Facebook because of a post criticizing gender-blind bathrooms.

Autumn Bennett, a manager of the Keep Locker Rooms Safe Facebook page, told The Daily Wire her page has been repeatedly censored by Facebook after she and her four colleagues posted about a Washington state bill mandating unrestricted access to male and female locker rooms based on "self-identified" sex affiliation. Bennett’s account was blocked while her colleagues were censored and reported by leftist Facebook activists who were offended by her posts.

Facebook protocol reserves the right to remove posts which are considered "credible threats to public figures, as well as hate speech directed at them - just as we do for private individuals."

Autumn said her post, which simply emphasized that men of all types are now legally permitted into women’s locker rooms, was hotly contested by trans activists and LGBTQ allies using social media to fight back. . . .

Autumn Bennett, the administrator of the page advocating for safety and privacy in locker rooms through sex-assigned bathrooms, told The Daily Wire the threats she has been receiving since the incident have gotten increasingly more aggressive. Trans activists have formed their own fake “Keep Locker Rooms Safe” Facebook pages in opposition to her group, mocking the group’s cause and harassing administrators.

One activist even posted a call to action for activists to investigate Bennett’s personal information, such as where she works.

Bennett and her colleagues decided to publicize the insults and threats from opposing activists by creating an album on their page filled with screenshots of the language that was used against her group, including phrases such as “Go f*** yourself” and “I hope your teeth fall out.” . . .

Although Bennett and her colleagues reported the aggressive language used against her group, Facebook responded by shutting their page down for having publicized what was being said to them.

Several trans activists bragged for having been the reason for Facebook’s censorship of Bennett and her colleagues.

From "State’s rules for transgender restroom access set off debate" by Nina Shapiro, Seattle Times staff reporter 1/11/16

On Dec. 26, a state regulation went into effect that guarantees access to restrooms, locker rooms, and other such facilities according to a person’s gender identity [NOT actual biological sex]. It affects public and private buildings, including schools, restaurants, stores and most places of employment.

The state Human Rights Commission says its new regulation is not introducing a new right, but clarifying a 2006 state law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. Hit by funding cuts, the commission just got around to rule-making.

Yet among some legislators and members of the public, it has generated an uproar. Sharon Ortiz, Human Rights Commission executive director, said state officials are “getting bombarded with calls.”

At the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties, the controversy came to a head in September, when a thousand calls and emails led the organization to scale back its original decision — only to readopt it in December after yet more discussion and consultation with the state attorney general’s office.

From "New Pierce, Kitsap YMCA policy change for transgender members raises concern" KCPQ-TV13 (Tacoma, WA) 12/18/15

A new policy was set in place in April that allowed members to use the facility of the gender they identified with. But after news of the policy spread months later, many members became upset.

A second policy was put in place with more complex rules. This time, however, members of the transgendered community became upset because the new policy tied the revision to fears of child abuse.

The YMCA leadership says the purpose of the new policy changes is to be more inclusive in the community, but there has been backlash, with some fearful this will open the door to a lot more than those who are transgender.

This week, Autumn Bennett plans to cancel her family's YMCA membership due to the policy change.

“This for me has nothing to do with discrimination against any other sort of groups, it has everything to do with the safety of children,” said Bennett. “Any pedophile, potential pedophile, rapist can pose and say 'Hey, I identify as this particular sex, and I can go in there and take pictures or assault someone.'”

Outlawing 'Transgender' Restroom Use in Virginia

Who could have imagined that a new law would be required to ensure that people use the public restroom that corresponds with their God-given anatomy? Yet, a bill introduced in the Virginia legislature is being vilified for doing just that.
“. . . the U.S. Justice Department is trying to bully schools into having boys and girls shower together. . . Do you want boys and girls showering together? Because that’s where this is headed.  [In contrast, this] legislation will protect the privacy rights of the vast majority of the children in Virginia and respect the rights of those who want to be a different gender than what they are. . . . It’s just common sense. But unfortunately, there seems to be a shortage of common sense these days.”

A measure (HB 663) sponsored by Delegate Mark Cole would require school boards to create and implement bathroom policies that require students to use gender-specific bathrooms based on their “anatomical sex” and not on how they identify themselves. An individual could also request a unisex bathroom.

Under federal law, it’s illegal to discriminate against students because they’re male or female, and the American Civil Liberties Union says that also applies to transgender children, so the director of Virginia’s office, Claire Gastenaga, is dismayed by several bills drafted by state lawmakers.

But Delegate Mark Cole defends his decision to try and restrict access to restrooms based on anatomy.  He would require school boards and state agencies to adopt a policy fining violators $50, and he says his constituents view this as a legitimate problem.

Critics say self-image is a complicated matter -- that children cannot be defined solely by anatomy, and Gastenaga says enforcement would necessitate physical inspections.

[Cole] says the bill would also protect school districts from lawsuits, but Gastenaga believes courts will side with transgender people in the years to come – ruling that it’s discriminatory to bar them from the bathroom where they believe they belong.

House Bill 663, proposed by Delegate Mark Cole of the state's House of Representatives, defines anatomical sex as "the physical condition of being male or female, which is determined by a person's anatomy." It would require all restrooms on property owned or leased by the state "solely be used by individuals whose anatomical sex matches such gender designation."

The proposal would also allow schools to create a single-stall unisex bathroom or shower for students who request it.

The bill does not specify how "anatomical sex" will be confirmed by the law-enforcement officer, but civil rights advocates say there's really only one way to be sure.

Cole refuted that claim in his statement, arguing that administrators could verify "anatomical sex" through a student registration form or birth certificate. The legislation, he added, would be enforced when administrators or authorities receive complaints.

"Contrary to what has been said about the legislation, it does NOT require genital checks," Cole said. "That is a lie started by those who want to make all facilities, including school restrooms, dressing rooms, and showers, 'gender neutral.'"

Cole said that a group of parents in his district requested the legislation, citing concern about a male student who wanted to use the girls facilities. Cole's district includes the city of Fredericksburg and surrounding counties.

Gender Redefined by NY City Law; Biology Be Damned

Sexual revolutionaries are trumpeting the latest New York City reinterpretation of existing law to elevate the Gay Agenda by giving special privileges to "transgender and gender non-conforming persons."  The new language rejects human biology with its new definition of gender as one’s “actual or perceived sex and shall also include a person’s gender identity, self-image, appearance, behavior or expression, whether or not that gender identity, self-image, appearance, behavior or expression is different from that traditionally associated with the legal sex assigned to that person at birth.”

The new rules give special rights to perverts, as well as any and every variation of sexual deviant so that such “individuals be permitted to use single-sex facilities, such as bathrooms or locker rooms, and participate in single-sex programs, consistent with their gender, regardless of their sex assigned at birth, anatomy, medical history, appearance, or the sex indicated on their identification.”

New York City has warned landlords, employers and businesses they could be running afoul of the law by purposely calling a transgender woman "him" or "Mr." when she prefers a female title and pronoun, or by barring her from using a women's restroom.

New guidelines detail the legal protections of transgender and gender-nonconforming New Yorkers and what constitutes discrimination under the city's Human Rights Law, the New York City Commission on Human Rights said on Monday.

Failing to provide employee health benefits for gender-affirming care or failing to accommodate people undergoing gender transition, such as medical appointments, could violate the law as well, they said.

Some cities around the country have added transgender people to anti-discrimination protections, and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo did likewise for his state this fall. The rules also declare that transgender people can't be denied access to the restroom or locker room where their gender identity belongs, at their discretion. Unisex, single-occupancy bathrooms are suggested but not required.

Objections from fellow patrons or employees "are not a lawful reason to deny access," the guidelines say. . . .

The GW Student Association voted in favor of a series of bills last month that would publish a list of gender-neutral bathrooms and add a gender-neutral option to all office forms, in addition to the mandatory sensitivity training for student organizations.

[Allied in Pride] argues that because Young America’s Foundation is a political organization and not explicitly religious, it should not be allowed to seek an exemption. Jashinsky told the Hatchet that certain aspects of the training, such as promoting the use of alternative gender-neutral pronouns, would be incongruent with some members’ religious beliefs.

Allied in Pride recently issued an “Allied in Pride Queer Guide” at the school providing a list of preferred “non-binary prounouns,” such as “they/them,” “ze/hir” and “xe/xir.”

It also called YAF’s refusal to use preferred gender pronouns “an act of violence” and a violation of the GW non-discrimination clause.

From "Conservative campus organization accused of being ‘hate group,’ may lose funding" by College Fix Staff 3/7/15

When news that the group sought an exemption from the training spread across campus Thursday and Friday, the controversy engulfed the school, and many students ridiculed the conservative club, calling it names and accusing it of “hate” on the Internet and social media.

Young America’s Foundation Vice President Patrick Coyle said the backlash the group faces is all too typical.

“Like most universities, in order to be ‘inclusive,’ GW must exclude students who disagree with prevailing leftist ideas that are pushed by the administration, faculty, and other liberal student groups,” he said in a statement.

Coyle said George Washington University has a “long history” of such intolerance, citing a number of attacks on its YAF chapter over the years, including an incident last year in which students vandalized a pro-life display and trashed some of the items.

NY Univ. Strips Students of Gender Identification

Acting in a subservient role to the Gay Agenda, the Graduate Center at the City University of New York issued a new policy advising faculty to minimize usage of personal titles (Mr., Ms., Mrs.) when addressing students because identifying individuals by a gender salutation discriminates against the growing number of sexually confused "transgender students." Homosexualists are applauding the University PC police for furthering "gender inclusivity."

-- From "CUNY Graduate Center Drops 'Mr.' And 'Ms.' From Official Communications" by Tyler Kingkade, The Huffington Post 1/28/15

In a Jan. 16 memo to Graduate Center faculty, reported by the [Wall Street] Journal, interim Provost Louise Lennihan wrote that the new policy was part of the school's "ongoing effort to ensure a respectful, welcoming and gender-inclusive learning environment ... and to accommodate properly the diverse population of current and prospective students."

The Graduate Center told The Huffington Post that the memo was actually aimed at advising faculty about the school's new preferred-name policy, which allows students to go by a moniker other than their legal name on certain university documents such as course rosters, student identification cards and student email addresses. The students simply have to fill out a form.

Faculty speech has not been restricted, Graduate Center President Chase F. Robinson told HuffPost in a statement. "The memo that was issued on January 16 was intended to provide guidance to administrators in addressing members of the community; as such, it offered advice and did not set, nor does it reflect, CUNY policy," he said.

From "CUNY: Don’t Address Students as ‘Mr.’ or ‘Ms.’" by Mike Vilensky, The Wall Street Journal 1/26/15

The directive pertains specifically to administrators’ written interactions with students and prospective students, said Tanya Domi, a school spokeswoman. But the memo says the policy should be “interpreted as broadly as possible” and was sent to all faculty at the Graduate Center.

The policy goes into effect during the Spring 2015 semester at the Manhattan public university, where some 5,000 students study in doctoral and master’s programs.

The memo came after wide consultation with many faculty, staff and students at the Graduate Center, said Ms. Domi, a school spokeswoman. She also said the school was “working within a regulatory framework to comply with Title IX legal principles,” a federal statute banning gender discrimination in educational settings that receive government funding.

Saundra Schuster, an attorney and Title IX consultant for universities, said the statute is intended to protect individuals from gender discrimination—no matter how they identify their gender, including transgender individuals. But, she added, “to say they must [bar gendered salutations] because of the law is ridiculous.”

. . . Ari Cohn, free speech lawyer and advocate at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education [FIRE], took issue with the spokeswoman’s suggestion that Title IX requires or even encourages a policy similar to the one the graduate center has implemented.

“Title IX prohibits discrimination—nothing more,” he said in an email to The College Fix. “Unfortunately, this problematic justification is emblematic of a pattern that FIRE is increasingly concerned by: Title IX is being turned into a Swiss army knife that can be used by colleges and universities to justify (and provide political cover for) virtually any academic or institutional policy even tangentially related to sex or gender.”

“It’s difficult to find a principled reason why the perspectives of those who prefer traditional salutations should be valued less than the perspectives of those who favor their abandonment, and that is precisely why language policing is best avoided altogether—it always entails making distinctions based on subjective preferences for a particular viewpoint,” Cohn said.

Parents Allow Babies to Choose Gender From Birth

Transgenderism beliefs were first confined to mentally ill adults, but then spread to sexually confused teens; most recently parents have been encouraged to allow preschool kids to think they're a different gender, and now, the German government will provide birth certificates with NO gender identification, such that the baby can choose on its own.
"The new law also stipulates that individuals can opt to remain of indeterminate gender for their whole lives."

-- From "Germany To Offer Third Gender Option On Birth Certificates" by Amanda Scherker, The Huffington Post 8/17/13

A new German law stipulates that children who are born of indeterminate gender no longer have to be categorized as "male" or "female." Instead, parents can choose to leave the space blank on their child's birth certificate, according to German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung. Those individuals can eventually decide whether to identify as male, female or neither.

The German legislature voted this as an amendment to the Civil Status Act on May 7. As Süddeutsche Zeitung recently noted, the "legal change has received little attention so far." But that all changed when some determined the new law, while progressive, doesn't go far enough.

Incidentally, Germany's not the only country navigating the legal implications of appropriately categorizing third gender identifiers. Earlier this year, Nepal began issuing "third gender" citizenship certificates. Activists lauded the progressive measure, noting its potential to simplify lives for sexual minorities.

. . . Under the new law, individuals can also opt to remain outside the gender binary altogether.

. . . just six weeks after Australia became the first country in the world to introduce legal guidelines on gender recognition. Under the Australian system, which applies to all personal documents, individuals can select the third category irrespective of whether or not they have undergone sex reassignment surgery or hormone therapy.

Finland is the only EU member state aside from Germany to have made significant progress in the area of third gender recognition. Despite its efforts, bureaucratic hurdles in the Nordic country have meant that there is still no concrete legislative change in sight.

According to Silvan Agius, policy director at human rights organisation ILGA Europe -- the European chapter of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association -- the European Union is lagging behind on the issue. Though Brussels commissioned a report on trans and intersex minorities in 2010, and has since attempted to coordinate efforts to prohibit gender discrimination, progress has been halting.

From "Germany to become first European state to allow ‘third gender’ birth certificates" posted at Russia Today 8/17/13

The new law will come into force on November 1, on the back of a constitutional court decision which states that as long as a person “deeply feels” that they belong to a certain gender, they have a personal right to choose how they legally identify themselves.

Justice Minister Sabine Leuthheusser-Schnarrenberger said the decision will have deep repercussions and will require “comprehensive reform” of all documents issued by the state.

The ‘third gender’ designation will also have an effect on marriage laws. As of now, only men and women are allowed to legally marry in the country. Homosexual couples can enter into a civil partnership, and no provisions are made for unions between other genders.

Congresswoman Says She'll Have Sex with ANY Gender

Just when you thought Congress couldn't get any more dysfunctional, the 113th Congress will not only have its first lesbian member in the Senate, Tammy Baldwin, but also the first "bisexual" member, Kyrsten Sinema, in the House of Representatives -- meaning she's sexually attracted to either/both/any sex.

. . . wonder if she's also bipartisan? (probably anything but!)

Krysten Sinema is also — and it irks her to no end that this is such an object of fascination — an openly bisexual woman. And not just any openly bisexual woman, but the first openly bisexual person to be elected to Congress, an undoubtedly historic figure whose very presence on Capitol Hill could serve as an inspiration when she is sworn in Thursday and joins six openly gay and lesbian members in the most demographically diverse Congress in U.S. history.

In an era when gay men and lesbians getting elected to public office is trending from “oh, wow” to almost ho-hum, it’s a real bummer for this 36-year-old Arizona Democrat that news reports around the world have distilled her to a single distinguishing characteristic based on her sexual orientation (although Sinema has been open about her sexuality for years and welcomed the endorsement and financial support of gay rights groups).

[Sinema was] the architect of a successful campaign to block a same-sex marriage ban in Arizona . . .

Texas Lawmaker Says She'll Have Sex with ANY Gender

Claiming to be a lesbian during her election campaign, Mary Gonzalez now says she's "pansexual," meaning that she has had, and will continue to have relationships with men, women, transsexuals, "gender queer" -- apparently meaning anyone who could be considered a human being.
"As I started to recognize the gender spectrum and dated along the gender spectrum, I was searching for words that connected to that reality, for words that embraced the spectrum."

Mary Gonzalez broke barriers when she became her state's only openly lesbian lawmaker when she was elected to the Texas House of Representatives.

Though many might describe Gonzalez's orientation as bisexual, pansexuals don’t believe in a "gender binary," and hence can be attracted to all gender identities.

Although she came out as bisexual at age 21, Gonzalez said she has also dated transgender and "gender-queer" people, in addition to women.

Gonzalez's election in May drew praise from a number of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights advocates.

From "Mary Gonzalez comes out as pansexual" by Anna Waugh, Staff Writer, Dallas Voice 8/10/12

Although her election focused on helping El Paso’s District 75 citizens gain access to clean drinking water and better educational opportunities, her sexuality was front and center, and something she had to repeatedly address. Mainstream media called her the Latina lesbian lawmaker. The coverage led to negative comments about her dating men in the past and accusations that she was not a “true lesbian,” Gonzalez said.

Denis Dison, spokesman for the Washington, D.C.-based Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, which endorsed Gonzalez, said there are several openly bisexual politicians nationwide but none have used the term pansexual.

“People should inform the media and others about the term they prefer, and that sort of education is a good thing,” Dison said. “It’s also a little more tricky in politics to be cutting edge and inform people about something they may not be familiar with.”

Robyn Ochs, a co-founder of the umbrella organization BiNet USA and nationally recognized educator in gender and sexuality, agreed.

“To not use that word because people don’t know what it means is never going to move us forward,” Ochs said. “By using language, we change understanding. We create understating.”

From "Texas Rep says she's a pansexual. What the heck is that?" by Catholic Online (NEWS CONSORTIUM) 8/15/12

While the vast majority of people are attracted to the opposite sex, and homosexuals claim same-sex attraction, pansexuals claim they are attracted to both genders and all "gender identities". For some using this label, they claim that they not only have a right to be so attracted but that it should be treated as a new civil right.

According to researchers, pansexuals don't recognize "gender binaries."

While members of the LGBT community are praising this latest development, most of the rest of the nation is simply trying to come to terms with a new form of sexual identification of which many were previously unaware. Many are also asking, what's next for a culture spiraling out of control?

Dartmouth Expands Sex-blind Dorm Room Assignments

In its policy to allow anybody room with anybody, Dartmouth College is supporting the Gay Agenda proposition that there are not two genders, but rather a spectrum of gender where no one is male or female.

Gay Agenda: Gender Neutrality a.k.a. Paganism

As seen in various European countries, once a society accepts same-sex "marriage" and a plethora of special rights for homosexuals, the push then extends past gender equality to gender neutrality where humans are no longer distinguished as male and female.
". . . to understand the contemporary sexual revolution, we need to see the 'new sexuality'—particularly . . . in its homosexual expression—as an integral expression of age-old religious paganism."

-- From "Sweden’s New Gender-Neutral Pronoun: Hen -- A country tries to banish gender" by Nathalie Rothschild, Slate 4/11/12

. . . The idea is that the government and society should tolerate no distinctions at all between the sexes. This means on the narrow level that society should show sensitivity to people who don't identify themselves as either male or female, including allowing any type of couple to marry. But that’s the least radical part of the project. What many gender-neutral activists are after is a society that entirely erases traditional gender roles and stereotypes at even the most mundane levels.

. . . Social Democrat politicians have proposed installing gender-neutral restrooms so that members of the public will not be compelled to categorize themselves as either ladies or gents. Several preschools have banished references to pupils' genders . . . They believe this fulfills the national curriculum's guideline that preschools should "counteract traditional gender patterns and gender roles" and give girls and boys "the same opportunities to test and develop abilities and interests without being limited by stereotypical gender roles."

. . . Last fall, 200 teachers attended a major government-sponsored conference discussing how to avoid "traditional gender patterns" in schools. . . . At Christmastime, [school] staff rewrote a traditional song . . . When pupils play house, they are encouraged to include "mommy, daddy, child" in their imaginary families, as well as "daddy, daddy, child"; "mommy, mommy, child"; "daddy, daddy, sister, aunty, child"; or any other modern combination.

. . . One Swedish school got rid of its toy cars because boys "gender-coded" them and ascribed the cars higher status than other toys. Another preschool removed "free playtime" from its schedule because, as a pedagogue at the school put it, when children play freely "stereotypical gender patterns are born and cemented. In free play there is hierarchy, exclusion, and the seed to bullying."

UPDATE 1/31/15 - Mr., Ms., Mrs. Forbidden: New York University Strips Students of Gender Identification

From "Sweden's Gender Neutrality Push: Boys and Girls Now Called 'Hen'" by Stoyan Zaimov, Christian Post Reporter 4/18/12

Earlier this month, the gender-neutral pronoun "hen" was proposed by lobbyists to be used in public schools instead of "he" (han in Swedish) and "she" (hon). The decision came shortly after the publication of Sweden's first ever gender-neutral children's book, Kivi och Monsterhund (Kivi and Monsterdog). It tells the story of Kivi, a child who wants a dog for "hen's" birthday. Jesper Lundqvist, the author, also introduces several gender-neutral words in the book.

Others have suggested this new initiative could be both psychologically and socially damaging for Sweden's children.

Elise Claeson, a columnist and a former equality expert at the Swedish Confederation of Professions, expressed that school-aged children can become confused by talks of a third gender, the one referred to as "hen," at a time when they are developing both physically and mentally.

From "Androgyny: The Pagan Sexual Ideal" by Peter Jones, JETS 43/3 (September 2000) 443–469

This [homosexual] movement has come a long way fast. It will not go away soon, I believe, because it is so intimately tied to deep changes in modern society, in particular those associated with philosophical postmodernism.

The subject, in its spiritual, religious, and even eschatological dimensions, needs to be treated and debated among us, not simply as an unfortunate social deviation or ephemeral social fad, but as a cutting-edge component of a rising, all-encompassing religious world view that is diametrically opposed to the world view of Christian theism. One fruitful way to approach this pressing issue is to consider the religious roots of homosexuality. The recent radical changes in our society, include, simultaneously, both the liberation of sex and the rediscovery of pagan mystical spirituality. Is such a pairing pure coincidence or is it the result of a necessary organic relationship? Has there always existed an ineluctable connection between pagan religion and pagan sex? For instance, while radical pagan feminists speak of the need of a “change of [religious] consciousness,” such spiritual transformation is always proposed by way of a radical recalibration of our perceptions of sexuality. In other words, sexuality appears central, not peripheral, to the spiritual quest. This, I believe, will become more and more evident in the homosexual movement, namely, that this particular sexual life-style will be the promoter of a particular kind of religion. Thus, while sexual liberation in its popular, successful, government-financed versions strategically associates itself with “civil rights,” pro-choice civic values, and politically-correct tolerance, often studiously avoiding any obvious religious dimension, its ultimate legitimization—since all human beings are religious—proceeds from the age-old dogmas of paganism, which, unlike their modern equivalent, never tried to hid behind a thin veil of temple-state separation. If everything is indeed political, as the radicals often proclaim, everything is also spiritual, and thus the spiritual is also sexual.

Men OK in Women's Dressing Rooms, Says Macy's

It's a woman's Christmas department store nightmare: Macy's policy is to allow any man choosing to try on women's clothing to do so in the women's dressing rooms; thus, the use of dressing rooms is NOT based on gender, but rather on the department where the selected clothes are being displayed.

-- From "Macy’s worker reportedly fired for not allowing transgender shopper into dressing room" by Kate Shellnutt, Houston Chronicle 12/6/11

An employee at a Macy’s in San Antonio was fired for not allowing a transgendered shopper to use the store’s women’s fitting room, saying doing so would violate her Christian beliefs, according to the Liberty Counsel, a religious advocacy organization that’s helping her fight the store’s policy.

An altercation took place between the [transgendered shopper], fellow shoppers, [clerk Natalie Johnson] and her manager, who required she comply with the policy that allows transgender people to use either room, wrote Liberty Counsel. The organization represents people like Johnson who believe they’ve been wrongfully terminated for their religious convictions.

“Macy’s has essentially opened women’s dressing rooms to every man,” said Liberty Counsel founder Mathew Staver. He is pushing for the department store to add a third dressing room for transgender individuals or change their policy.

Clerk Natalie Johnson, according to Liberty Counsel, reported that she saw a man walking out of the fitting room reserved for women at the San Antonio, Texas, Macy's and "politely told him that he could not go back in because it was for women only."

Macy's officials, however, ordered her to allow "transgender" customers to change in any dressing room they wished and warned that if she wouldn't comply she would be fired.

Some of the man's friends then "argued with expletives that Macy's is LGBT-friendly, to which Johnson replied that Macy's is also non-discriminatory toward religion and that it would go against her religious beliefs to lie that he was a woman or compromise with homosexuality," Liberty Counsel said.

Liberty Counsel was encouraging Macy's customers to contact company executives to express an opinion on the issue.
