FBI Director Says Satan Leads Islamic Terrorists

Breaking from the White House desperate avoidance of linking evil and/or Islam to worldwide jihadist terrorism, this week, FBI Director James Comey, while detailing the infiltration of Islamists into America, described the true nature of the battle.
“But what we see [the enemy] doing is trying in a way to test people’s bona fides by urging them to kill.  Sometimes supplying with them hit lists, sometimes suggesting particular targets, but other times just ‘kill in our name.’ If you can’t travel, kill where you are. It’s almost if there is a devil sitting on the shoulder saying, ‘Kill,’ ‘Kill,’ ‘Kill,’ ‘Kill,’ all day long.”

FBI Director James B. Comey said Thursday his agents learned hours before the start of a cartoon contest and exhibit depicting the prophet Muhammad that one of the gunmen had expressed interest in going to the controversial event in Texas, but there was no indication he was planning an attack.

[Elton] Simpson and his roommate, Nadir Soofi, 34, who lived in Phoenix, were killed by a local traffic officer as they opened fire at a conference center in Garland, Tex., where the competition was taking place.

Comey said the Islamic State’s effort to recruit and motivate people in the United States to try to do harm was paying dividends.

“There’s a lot of different threats that are out there, from ISIS to homegrown violent extremists,” [U.S. Northern Command] spokesman John Cornelio said. “By providing this increase in security measures, we increase the safety and security of our service members.”

Comey said the Islamic State presented a particular danger because it is proficient at using social media to deliver propaganda. The group has thousands of English-speaking followers online, he said, including many in the United States.

Comey said the group’s reach through social media is like a siren song for would-be supporters.

Soon after the Texas attack, a post appeared on an anonymous text-sharing site claiming that the Islamic State has 71 people in 15 states ready to carry out missions. Maryland was one of five states named.

Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, said federal authorities are aware of "thousands" of potential extremists living in the U.S., only a small portion of whom are under active surveillance.

The Texas shooting is part of what authorities have long considered an alarming trend involving would-be recruits for whom technology makes it easier to be exposed to ISIS propaganda. Beyond the communications that occur in the open, ISIS increasingly makes contact with followers and steers them into forums that allow for encrypted communications that can be harder for law enforcement officials to access.

The terror group has been encouraging its followers to travel to Syria to join the self-created caliphate there, but if they can't do that, to "kill where you are," FBI Director James Comey said.

"The siren song sits in the pockets, on the mobile phones, of the people who are followers on Twitter," Comey said. "It's almost as if there's a devil sitting on the shoulder, saying 'Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill!' all day long."

[Recent] news was all about the murder by fanatics of 150 children and teachers in a Pakistan school. As this is being written, the world is stunned by the action of a German pilot who deliberately flew his airliner into an Alpine mountainside, killing 149 others along with himself.

Human agency obviously was operative in these events, as in other recent horrors, but it’s easy to glimpse a devilish hand in them, too — and also in the multitude of less ostentatious but hardly less destructive acts of cruelty, dishonesty and lust that darken everyday life.

The standard response to this kind of thinking is to laugh it off. The devil has become a joke. . . . Getting people not to believe in him is one of the devil’s favorite tricks. . . .

But there’s too much evidence of his existence for disbelief to be a viable option. . . .

There are two extremes to be avoided in this matter: fearful obsession with the devil and ignoring the fact that we live on a battlefield with Satan and his forces drawn up against us. The letter to the Ephesians puts it best: “We are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness” (Eph 6:12).

This is exactly the intentions of Satan[:] to discourage anyone from acknowledging him as the personification of evil. And that tactic has been so successful that you SELDOM hear any mention of this from behind church pulpits. Why? Most pastors today will avoid the subject and even eliminate this important teaching in the Bible, not wanting to appear fanatic. They want to show that their churches are relevant for today and are up with the times. That is called, progressivism.

As a result, Satan has been unleashed with little or no restraints as havoc is caused throughout the world including the brutal rapes of little girls and little boys and senseless murders. Notice the increase of evil for the sake of evil. Not to settle a score or to punish for a bad debt, but simply to kill someone just for the sake of doing it. Or the new thing, to travel in twos and suddenly hit someone walking down the sidewalk, young or old, in a fad called, "The Knockout Game."

While Satan cannot directly kill someone, he can manipulate one's mind to kill himself through demonic depression and manipulating the minds of others to suddenly lash out at their own families. He can attack one through health, not actually causing the health problems, but attacking those areas which are the weakest parts of your body or attacking the weakest part of your minds such as temptations that you foolishly have let in. The purpose is to confuse one to wonder where God is or, is there really a God? That is a steak dinner for the enemy.

The deceptive enemy is very much alive and active in destruction. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise. But we all have power from on High to stop him in his tracks. Never give in, never give up, but press on! And move in closer to God.

A rampage reminiscent of Tamerlane or Genghis Khan, perhaps, but in reality, according to reports by residents, activist groups and the assailants themselves, a description of the modus operandi of the Islamic State’s self-declared caliphate this week. The militants have prosecuted a relentless campaign in Iraq and Syria against what have historically been religiously and ethnically diverse areas with traces of civilizations dating to ancient Mesopotamia.

Assyrian leaders have counted 287 people taken captive, including 30 children and several dozen women, along with civilian men and fighters from Christian militias, said Dawoud Dawoud, an Assyrian political activist who had just toured the area, in the vicinity of the Syrian city of Qamishli. Thirty villages had been emptied, he said.

The assault on the Assyrian communities comes amid battles for a key crossroads in the area. But to residents, it also seems to be part of the latest effort by the Islamic State militants to eradicate or subordinate anyone and anything that does not comport with their vision of Islamic rule — whether a minority sect that has survived centuries of conquerors and massacres or, as the world was reminded on Thursday, the archaeological traces of pre-Islamic antiquity.

The Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, has presented itself as a modern-day equivalent of the conquering invaders of Sennacherib’s day, or as Islamic zealots smashing relics out of religious conviction.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the number of Assyrian hostages seized over three days at 220, in a statement released Thursday.

They were taken from 11 villages in the Tal Tamer area in al-Hasakah Province, the monitoring group said. Its information indicates that ISIS has taken them to the Mount Abdelaziz area, southwest of Tal Tamer.

Besides those captured by ISIS militants, thousands of families have been forced to flee their homes, he said.

ISIS has proven, time and again, its willingness to ruthlessly go after minority groups which don't subscribe to its extreme take on Islam.

The destruction of artifacts in the Mosul museum is part of a campaign by IS extremists who have destroyed a number of shrines — including Muslim holy sites — to eliminate what they view as heresy. They also are believed to have sold ancient artifacts on the black market in order to finance their bloody campaign in the region.

In the video released Thursday, militants used sledgehammers and drills to smash and destroy several large statues, which are then shown chipped and in pieces. The five-minute video also shows a black-clad man at an archaeological site in Mosul, drilling through and destroying a winged-bull — an Assyrian protective deity — that dates to the 7th century B.C.

Irina Bokova, director general of the U.N.'s culture agency UNESCO, said in a statement that she was "deeply shocked" at the video. She said she asked for an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council be convened "on the protection of Iraq's cultural heritage as an integral element for the country's security."

"I condemn this as a deliberate attack against Iraq's millennial history and culture, and as an inflammatory incitement to violence and hatred," Bokova said.

Aid to the Church in Need reported that the Islamist group murdered a number of Assyrians it took from Hassake governorate in Syria.

Abbot Emanuel Youkhana passed on the news to various Catholic agencies working in the area, and said the number still being held totalled 350.

The charity reports that another source claimed that people in the Sunni Arab village of Bab Alfaraj have been told to attend “a mass killing of infidels” at Mount Abdul Aziz tomorrow.

There are no families left in the 35 Assyrian Christian villages of the area. The only people left in the region are Christian militia fighters who are fighting alongside Kurdish troops

From "ISIS kills 15 Christian hostages in Syria, beheads woman" posted at ANSAmed 2/26/15

The news was given by Archimandrite Emanuel Youkhana to the Catholic organization Aid to the Church in Need on Thursday. . . . One woman was beheaded in the village Tel Hormidz and two men were shot to death. There is no information at the moment on how the other 12 were killed. Youkhana added that the number of those known to have been taken hostage had risen to about 350. In addition to the hundreds previously reported, some 80 inhabitants from the Tel Jazira village, 21 from Tel Gouran, 5 from Tel Feytha and 3 from Qabir Shamiya have been taken. Almost all are being held in the Sunni Muslim village Um Al-Masamier.

. . . One source has said that a mass execution is being planned for Friday, February 27, in the mosque of Bab Alfaraj, a Sunni village in the area. There has been no confirmation of the news.

A day after he held an all-Muslim meeting at the White House, President Obama chided Christians during the National Prayer Breakfast not to criticize radical Islamist terrorists who behead journalists and burn prisoners of war to death because hundreds of years ago Catholics committed brutal acts in the name of Jesus Christ.

In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.”

The president's comments angered some who felt that comparing the atrocities of the Islamic State to other acts of violence was out of line. The Catholic League's Bill Donohue called it "an attempt to deflect guilt from Muslim madmen," and argued that Christian crusaders were merely defending themselves against hostile Muslim neighbors.

But that is not how many of his longtime critics saw it.

“The president’s comments this morning at the prayer breakfast are the most offensive I’ve ever heard a president make in my lifetime,” said Jim Gilmore, the former Republican governor of Virginia. “He has offended every believing Christian in the United States.”

Mr. Gilmore said the comments go “further to the point that Mr. Obama does not believe in America or the values we all share.”

Obama spoke a day after meeting with Muslim leaders, in what participants said was his first roundtable with a Muslim-only group since taking office. The Muslim leaders who argued that they feel their community has faced unfair scrutiny in the wake of terrorist attacks overseas. Although the White House released only a broad description of the meeting — which touched on issues including racial profiling — participants said it gave them a chance to express their concerns directly to the president.

Farhana Khera, executive director of the civil rights group Muslim Advocates, one of 13 participants, said the session gave Obama a chance to focus on Muslim Americans the way he has done with other constituencies, such as African American and Jewish groups.

One of the leading authorities on the Inquisition, Henry Kamen, states that a total of 1,394 people were killed during the Inquisition. “Today, Muslim madmen kill more than that in a few months,” said [Catholic League President Bill] Donohue.

Pope Decries Abortion, Again; Media Ignore Him

Earlier this week, when Pope Francis listed 15 ailments of the Vatican leadership, the story ran wall-to-wall on mainstream media.  In contrast, yesterday's criticism by the Pope of the abortion culture has been nearly blacked out from view by the same media.
"My thoughts turn to all those children today who are killed and ill-treated, be they infants killed in the womb, deprived of that generous love of their parents and then buried in the egoism of a culture that does not love life . . ."

On Monday, Pope Francis addressed the Vatican’s governing leadership — better known as the Roman Curia — for his yearly Christmas greeting with a very noticeably un-festive tone. In his remarks, the Pope listed 15 spiritual “ailments” encountered in the Curia, and urged the bureaucratic leadership to renew its effort to heal itself as Christmas approaches.

“The Curia is always required to better itself and to grow in communion, sanctity and wisdom to fully accomplish its mission,” Pope Francis said. “However, like any body, it is exposed to sickness, malfunction and infirmity. … I would like to mention some of these illnesses that we encounter most frequently in our life in the Curia. They are illnesses and temptations that weaken our service to the Lord.”

The somewhat harsh tone of the remarks captured a lot of international attention, as did some of the Pope’s more memorable names for the Curia diseases he singles out — including “spiritual Alzheimer’s” and “Funereal Face.”

Pope Francis on Thursday condemned the "brutal persecution" of minorities by Islamic State insurgents and said the joy of Christmas was marred by the suffering of children in the Middle East and around the world.

Tens of thousands of people flocked to St. Peter's Square to hear the Argentine pope deliver his "Urbi et Orbi" (to the city and the world) blessing and message, marking the second Christmas since his election last year.

Later he departed from his text and spoke emotionally of "children displaced due to war and persecution, abused and taken advantage of before our very eyes and our complicit silence."

He also spoke of "infants killed in the womb" condemning abortion as a product of "a culture that does not love life."

He has said the church cannot insist only on issues related to abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptives. He asked “Who am I to judge?” in response to reports of gay clergy members. And his personal plea contributed to the thawing of more than five decades of tense U.S.-Cuban relations.

Vast numbers of children today are victims of violence, objects of trade and trafficking, or forced to become soldiers, and they need to be saved, he said.

Jesus, the Son of God, the Saviour of the world, is born for us, born in Bethlehem of a Virgin, fulfilling the ancient prophecies. The Virgin’s name is Mary, the wife of Joseph.

May Jesus save the vast numbers of children who are victims of violence, made objects of trade and trafficking, or forced to become soldiers; children, so many abused children. May he give comfort to the families of the children killed in Pakistan last week. May he be close to all who suffer from illness, especially the victims of the Ebola epidemic, above all in Liberia, in Sierra Leone and in Guinea. As I thank all who are courageously dedicated to assisting the sick and their family members, I once more make an urgent appeal that the necessary assistance and treatment be provided.

The Child Jesus. My thoughts turn to all those children today who are killed and ill-treated, be they infants killed in the womb, deprived of that generous love of their parents and then buried in the egoism of a culture that does not love life; be they children displaced due to war and persecution, abused and taken advantage of before our very eyes and our complicit silence.

I think also of those infants massacred in bomb attacks, also those where the Son of God was born. Even today, their impotent silence cries out under the sword of so many Herods. On their blood stands the shadow of contemporary Herods.

Limiting Births Fails to Save Earth: Gov't Report

A new study from the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, which receives 85% of its funding from President Obama's federal government agencies, has concluded that even a world-wide one-child policy for population control is not enough.  The Academy's environmentalists, concerned that humans are destroying the planet, also determined that even massive deaths from cataclysmic events such as nuclear war and unprecedented pandemics would not succeed in saving the non-human life of the Earth.

According to a new study, controlling population growth will not solve global issues of sustainability in the short term. The study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences stated that if the world follows one-child policy, then the number of people in 2100 remained around current levels.

The study also reported that even if a catastrophic event in the future kills billions of people, it would have a little effect on the overall impact. According to the study, in 2100, there will be about 12 billion people on the earth.

The authors of the study stated that about 14% of all the humans who ever existed on the earth were alive today. Growth in population means an impact on the environment than ever. In near future, humans will have to face problems like conversion of forests for agriculture, climate change, pollution and rise of urbanization.

And older people today still think population is the problem, though since food and energy are not major issues, they argue culling humanity might be necessary to save the environment. New multi-scenario modeling of world human population has concluded that even mandatory sterilization or abortions or a mass kill-off would not bring about large enough change to solve issues of global sustainability as they are portrayed. So World War III won't save the planet.

Writing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, ecologists Professor Corey Bradshaw and Professor Barry Brook from the University of Adelaide's Environment Institute say instead that we should focus on policies and technologies that reverse rising consumption of natural resources and enhance recycling for more immediate sustainability gains.

In their paper, the researchers also look at the impact on numbers of a global catastrophe in the middle of this century. They found that even an event that wiped out two billion people would still leave about eight and a half billion in 2100.

"Our work reveals that effective family planning and reproduction education worldwide have great potential to constrain the size of the human population and alleviate pressure on resource availability over the longer term," said Prof Barry Brook from the University of Tasmania.

Two prominent ecologists, who normally study animal populations in the wild, have concluded that the number of people in the world today will present one of the most daunting problems for sustainable living on the planet in the coming century – even if every country adopts a draconian “one child” policy.

Professor Bradshaw told The Independent that the study was designed to look at human numbers with the insight of an ecologist studying natural impacts on animals to determine whether factors such pandemics and world wars could dramatically influence the population projections.

Simon Ross, the chief executive of the charity Population Matters, said that introducing modern family planning to the developing world would cost less than $4bn – about one third of the UK’s annual aid budget.

“So, while fertility reduction is not a quick fix, it is relatively cheap, reliable, and popular with most, with generally positive side effects. We welcome the recognition of the potential of family planning and reproductive education to alleviate resource availability in the longer term,” Mr Ross said.

FDR's D-Day Prayer is Un-American, Say Atheists

As Allied troops fought the Nazi stronghold at Normandy in 1944, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt led America in prayer to "Almighty God" in a nationwide radio broadcast.  Now, seventy years later, a coalition of atheists, and the religious left, are demanding that the prayer be obliterated from history, and NOT included in the World War II Memorial because it "disrespects America's religious diversity."

Known as H.R 2175 [World War II Memorial Prayer Act of 2013], the bill was introduced last year with the House Subcommittee on Public Lands and Environmental Regulation holding a hearing on it Tuesday morning.

"The Secretary of the Interior … shall install in the area of the World War II Memorial in the District of Columbia a suitable plaque or an inscription with the words that President Franklin D. Roosevelt prayed with the United States on June 6, 1944, the morning of D-Day," reads the bill.

"[The Secretary] may not use Federal funds to prepare or install the plaque or inscription referred to in paragraph (1), but may accept and expend private contributions for this purpose."

The "World War II Memorial Prayer Act of 2013" has been considered in past sessions of Congress, passing in the House of Representatives only to stall in the Senate.

There’s little to nothing in FDR’s prayer that would theologically offend almost any monotheist, except possibly for its very lack of theological specificity. And why would even polytheists or atheists be overly distressed by such a prayer, if in fact they too hoped for encouragement, solace, and victory for those forces, mostly very young men, attempting to liberate Europe from Nazi control and “to set free a suffering humanity?”

Such a regime in extreme version was, in FDR’s words, the “unholy forces of our enemy” whom the Allied forces opposed on D-Day. They and other totalitarians deny any transcendent authority over the all-controlling state. For them, not only is there no religious freedom, there is no moral architecture for human rights at all. The will to power supersedes all morality and notions of human dignity.

. . . whether everyone likes it or not, FDR did say the prayer. It is intrinsically part of what the WWII Memorial represents. His prayer is considerably less provocative than Abraham Lincoln’s Calvinist suggestion, inscribed on his nearby monument, that the Civil War was divine punishment for slavery.

Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith.

They are flushed, tossed, and ground out of existence.

Why is genocide in Syria intolerable while infanticide in our country is not only permissible but considered a constitutional right? Both the Assad atrocities and abortion represent attacks against the most vulnerable members of society: children. We are understandably horrified by the pictures of endless rows of Syrian children’s corpses. But if we laid side by side the remains of the millions of children who have been aborted in the last 40 years — many during the second and third trimesters with discernible features — I imagine there would be an even greater outcry from the American people.

As U.S and allied troops launched the invasion that led to the defeat of Nazi Germany, FDR asked the nation to join him in prayer. He then asked God to give the allied troops courage and faith, saying, "With thy blessing we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy."

A World War II veteran, 87-year-old George "Poppy" Fowler, told a House committee that the prayer should be added to the memorial. He said, "This prayer came at a perilous time, yet it was answered in victory at a dear cost of lives."

'Just War' Ethics Stripped from Air Force Training

Atheists' complaints have resulted in the Air Force suspending the decades-long study of the "Just War Theory" from routine ethics training simply because the origins of the subject matter are rooted in Christianity, which thus requires presentation of Bible verses and historic Christian leaders.

It cites such Old Testament examples as Abraham, who “organized an army to rescue Lot (Genesis 14),” and Hebrew judges Samson and Deborah, who were motivated by God “to fight and deliver Israel from foreign oppressors.” The presentation also notes New Testament references to the military, such as the apostle John’s reference to Jesus as a warrior judge (Revelation 19:11).

[David] Smith said Air Force officials were not aware of the religious nature of the class until they were contacted by TruthOut.org, the online magazine that originally broke the story. “That is when we became aware of concerns about the course and our commander here reviewed the course and decided immediately that it was not appropriate for what we want to do and suspended using that briefing,” said Smith.

But Matthew Staver of Liberty Council, a conservative legal advocacy group, argued that allowing chaplains “to include Christian values and themes in ethics presentations does not violate the establishment clause” — that portion of the First Amendment that foes of religious freedom have used in an effort sanitize society of faith in God.

. . . suspending a course like this because of references to religious texts misinterprets the First Amendment. Although our Founding Fathers rightly included language in the Constitution that precludes the Federal government from establishing an official religion, this language does not, as some have argued, protect them from exposure to religious references.

The First Amendment is intended to guarantee an individual’s right to the free exercise of religion according to his or her conscience. The Air Force personnel who have taken this course for the past 20 years have been free to determine, according to their own consciences, whether they accept or reject the premises of just war theory.

A U.S. Army medical and mental evaluation team has determined that WikiLeaks suspect PFC Bradley Manning is both physically and mentally competent to face court martial. The 706 Board, as it's called, took several months to make that determination.

The board's ruling clears the way now for Manning to appear before an Article 32 hearing -- the military equivalent of a grand jury -- to determine if he should face court martial.

Army spokesman Gary Tallman says a panel of experts completed its medical and mental evaluation of Pfc. Bradley Manning on April 22, and informed Army officials Friday of the conclusion.

Tallman says no date has been set yet for the initial court hearing, and added that the evaluation board's findings "have no bearing on the guilt, innocence, or any potential defenses of the accused."

The Army private is suspected of obtaining hundreds of thousands of classified and sensitive documents while serving in Iraq and providing them to the website. He faces about two dozen charges, including aiding the enemy. That charge can bring the death penalty or life in prison.

Manning was transferred from a Marine Corps brig in Quantico, Va., last week to a new facility at Fort Leavenworth prison in Kansas.

One of the charges he faces involves aiding the enemy – of which, if he is found guilty, could technically carry a death sentence. However, Army prosecutors have indicated they would seek a sentence of up to life in prison instead.

Leavenworth officials were at pains to stress that since last week's transfer there he was no longer deemed in danger of killing himself and would not be detained in isolation. "Typically in this facility, we would not keep anybody on suicide watch more than 24 to 48 hours," said Col Dawn Hilton.

It took nine months for the psychiatrists to judge him mentally fit, mostly because it took months and months to grant them the security clearances necessary to be read in on a case involving half a million secret documents. . . .

. . . The same sort of problems involving classified documents and security clearances that slowed his psychiatric evaluation will also delay his trial.

And that's not including the Department of Justice's attempts to build a case against Julian Assange and Wikileaks. Manning would obviously be key to any prosecution of Assange, and the government almost surely would not want to give anything away by bringing Manning to trial before it finished trying to build a case against WikiLeak's co-founder.

2010 Christmas Messiah: WikiLeaks' Julian Assange

As millions of Christians give praise to the man-god they consider to be "the way and the truth and the life", so radicals, who are normally so sniffy about anything that looks or sounds like religion, are bending their collective knee to that "truth teller" Assange.

"Truth in chains" is how one WikiLeaks-loving hack described Assange's temporary imprisonment in Britain for alleged sexual offences committed in Sweden, as if Assange himself is truth, the physical embodiment of all that is right and real.

The pursuit of Assange by law enforcers represents the "persecution of truth itself", an American journalist says.

A contributor to the Huffington Post in the US says, "For our sake, he's being crucified to satisfy right-wingers' bloodlust."

The liberal worship of Assange is speedily becoming embarrassing and creepy.

Homosexual Behavior in Military Would be Deadly

As the U.S. House passed a stand-alone bill to repeal the 1993 law banning homosexuals from military service (a.k.a. Don't Ask, Don't Tell) . . .

The Marine Corps' top general suggested Tuesday that allowing gays to serve openly in the military could result in more casualties because their presence on the battlefield would pose "a distraction."

"When your life hangs on the line," said Gen. James F. Amos, the commandant of the Marine Corps, "you don't want anything distracting. . . . Mistakes and inattention or distractions cost Marines' lives."

Amos had said previously that allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly could cause "distractions" and "risks" for combat units. But his remarks Tuesday were the first time that he or any other senior military leader has suggested that repealing the 17-year-old "don't ask, don't tell" law could directly endanger troops and cost lives.

The Defense Department survey, released last month, found that 58 percent of those in Marine combat arms units predicted that repeal would negatively affect their ability to "work together to get the job done." In comparison, 48 percent of those in Army combat units felt the same way.

The final House vote was 250-175, primarily along party lines. There were 15 Republicans who joined 235 Democrats to support the measure.

Rep. Buck McKeon, R-Calif., the incoming chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said he sides with the top officers of the military branches who say overturning the policy would be disruptive.

The vote came on a stand-alone bill on repeal offered by Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Pa., the first Iraq war veteran elected to Congress. The move is aimed at getting the Senate to also take up a stand-alone bill before Congress leaves for the holidays.
