Transgender Cartoons Indoctrinate Preschoolers

Discovery Communications and toy manufacturer Hasbro Inc. have launched a new superhero cartoon character called SheZow on its Hub cable TV channel.  The show features Guy Hamdon, a 12-year-old boy who is endowed with special powers as he transforms into a girl.

Naturally, the show has been met with controversy.

Journalist Ben Shapiro of Breitbart News called the show "a soon-to-be dud".

"Nothing says 'child-appropriate material' quite like gender-bending underage superheroes," he wrote. "At least that's the theory over at the Hub, the network co-owned by Discovery and Hasbro, which is trotting out its latest soon-to-be-dud, SheZow."

But Rich Ferraro, president of GLAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) called Breitbart's story "a laughable attempt at attention seeking, comparable to (Reverend) Jerry Falwell attacking the Teletubbies and demonstrates a profound ignorance of transgender people since this show doesn't include any."

The show's official description refers to Guy as "an extreme dude" with his own catchphrase "it's a GUY thing". But the [magic] ring gives him an "outrageous female superhero costume" that helps him on his "personal journey to become one heck of a super man".

From "Kids' cable channel Hub hopes 'SheZow' has magic touch on ratings" by Joe Flint, Los Angeles Times 5/28/13

"We're making a lot of progress," said Discovery Communications Chief Executive David Zaslav. "Launching a cable channel in America is never a sprint."

[Hasbro] shelled out $300 million for 50% of [The Hub] channel and has pumped an additional $150 million to $200 million into beefing up its Hasbro Studios, which supplies much of the Hub's programming.

Last year, Hasbro's loss on the Hub narrowed to $6 million, from $7.3 million in 2011. . . . who knows, maybe if "SheZow" is a hit, Hasbro can start merchandising her white go-go boots, and her ring.

Whenever trouble arises, the boy says the magic words “You go, girl!” to become the cross-dressing superhero and returns to his secret identity by shouting “She-yeah!”

SheZow is assisted by his best friend, Maz -- who takes on a different sidekick identity in each episode -- and Kelly, who controls the underground “She-lair” with Sheila, the supercomputer.

Young male viewers will find even more absurd the premise that the hero uses his “beautility belt,” which contains various weapons concealed inside feminine products like laser lipstick and vanishing cream.

And what superhero series would be complete without super villains to battle? SheZow has a rogue's gallery that includes Megamonkey, Coldfinger, Candy Rapper, Tattoozula and his arch-enemy, SheZap.
