Illinois Parents Sue Obama: Indecency in Schools

Attorneys representing 73 parents and 63 students in suburban Chicago filed a lawsuit this week against the Obama Administration and the largest high school district in Illinois for colluding to invade the privacy of students in the girls restrooms and locker rooms using new unlawful "transgender rights" edicts.
“It’s important to recognize that there’s a lagging legal framework in the face of rapidly changing social norms.  Our understanding of gender identity is changing, and the law hasn’t kept up.”
-- Francisco Negrón, National School Boards Association General Counsel

"No school should impose a policy like this against the will of so many parents.”
-- Vicki Wilson, Illinois parent and co-founder of Students and Parents for Privacy (lead plaintiff)

“Allowing boys into girls’ locker rooms, a setting where girls are often partially or fully unclothed, is a blatant violation of student privacy. The school district should rescind its privacy-violating policies, and the court should order the Department of Education to stop bullying school districts with falsehoods about what federal law requires.”
-- Jeremy Tedesco, Senior Counsel, Alliance Defending Freedom

“To impose such a rule on still-developing teenage girls, as they’re already struggling with puberty’s changes on their bodies and social pressures to look a certain way, undermines their dignity and tells them that their rights don’t matter. This isn’t a message our schools should be sending to our girls.”
-- Jocelyn Floyd, Attorney, Thomas More Society

Lawyers for Alliance Defending Freedom and Thomas More Society, two conservative groups, filed the 77-page suit Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Chicago on behalf of 51 families with links to Palatine-based Township High School District 211. It names the district and the U.S. Department of Education as defendants.

The battle for access to girls' facilities at William Fremd High School by the transgender student — who was born male but identifies as female — helped spark a national debate last year that has since spread to other districts.

The [new transgender] policy, [the lawsuit] says, causes other girls fear and embarrassment. It adds: They are "afraid they will have to see a male in a state of undress," which, for some, is a "distraction throughout the school day." One girl's anxiety led her to wear gym clothes under her street clothes so she can peel just the outer clothes off in the locker.

From "Illinois group sues Obama administration over transgender students’ bathroom access" by Emma Brown, Washington Post 5/4/16

A group of Illinois students and parents sued the Obama administration Wednesday over its stance on transgender students’ access to school bathrooms and locker rooms, arguing that the U.S. Education Department is illegally forcing local authorities to let children use facilities that correspond to their gender identity.

The complaint alleges that the federal government has violated students’ fundamental right to privacy and parents’ constitutional right to instill moral standards and values in their children.

The lawsuit represents the first legal challenge to the Obama administration’s interpretation of Title IX, a federal anti-discrimination law, as providing transgender students with the right to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity instead of their biological sex.

Palatine officials — facing the loss of $6 million in federal funding — ultimately decided to allow a transgender student to change in the girls locker room instead of sending her down the hall to a separate facility.

Students and Parents for Privacy and three female students sued the U.S. Department of Education, Secretary of Education John King, the Department of Justice, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Cook County, Ill., and the directors of Township High School District 211 in Illinois Federal Court on Wednesday.

"This is a civil rights action to stop the Department of Education and Township High School District 211 from continuing to trample students' privacy and other constitutional and statutory rights by forcing 14- to 17-year-old girls to use locker rooms and restrooms with biological males; and to set aside DOE's ultra vires legislative rule redefining 'sex' in Title IX to include gender identity," the 83-page complaint begins.

"This creates an intimidating and hostile environment for the girl members of Students and Parents for Privacy, some of whom are as young as 14, because Student A - who is biologically a male - actively uses their private facilities at the same times as plaintiffs," the complaint states. "As a direct result of defendants' policies and actions, every day these girls go to school, they experience embarrassment, humiliation, anxiety, fear, apprehension, stress, degradation, and loss of dignity because they will have to use the locker room and restroom with a biological male."

From "Lawsuit filed after transgender student gets locker room access in Palatine" by Duaa Eldeib and Dawn Rhodes, Chicago Tribune 5/5/16

The District 211 transgender student, who has not been identified publicly, initially filed a complaint with the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights alleging that the district discriminated against [Student A] when it denied [him] access to the girls locker room. The district had previously allowed the student to use the girls restroom.

In an unprecedented decision, federal education authorities found that the district had violated Title IX. The district risked losing millions of federal dollars and a possible lawsuit by the federal government if it failed to reach a resolution. In a controversial decision, the district agreed in December to allow the student locker room access and installed privacy stalls. Proponents of the settlement heralded it as a civil rights victory.

The religious liberty group Thomas More Society also is representing the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, which seeks to keep the district from enforcing the locker room agreement and restroom policy and to bar the Department of Education from taking action against the district. The plaintiffs also argue in the suit that the locker room agreement prevents students from practicing the modesty that their faith requires of them.

From "NW suburban families file lawsuit in transgender locker room case" by Maudlyne Ihejirika, Chicago Sun-Times 5/4/16

The lawsuit, Students and Parents for Privacy v. United States Department of Education, seeks an injunction against District 211. Headquartered in Palatine, it serves nearly 12,500 students from Palatine, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Schaumburg and parts of seven other northwest suburbs in five high schools and two alternative high schools.

It also asks the court to declare the policy and the district’s agreement with the Department of Education unconstitutional and illegal under both federal and Illinois law, and to have the court invalidate the department’s interpretation of Title IX’s sex discrimination provisions.

District 211 Supt. Dan Cates said Wednesday that the district affirms and supports the identity of all its students and will stand by the highly publicized agreement it reached last December with the department’s Office for Civil Rights. . . .

“We have implemented the agreement without any reports of incident or issue,” Cates said. “Our students have shown acceptance, support and respect of each other. Individual changing stalls in our locker rooms are readily available to every student and further accommodations that provide even greater privacy remain available upon request.”

From "Obama plans new push for transgender rights in schools" by Caitlin Emma, Politico 5/6/16

The divisive and politically combustible issue of bathroom access for transgender individuals is about to become further inflamed, as the Obama administration is expected in coming weeks to aggressively reinforce its position that transgender student rights are fully protected under federal law, sources told POLITICO.

With the Justice Department already locking horns with North Carolina over the state’s so-called bathroom bill, the administration plans to reaffirm its view that robust protections for transgender students are within the existing scope of Title IX, a federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in federally funded education programs and activities. Multiple agencies are expected to be involved.

New guidance on Title IX represents a natural outgrowth of the administration’s aggressive agenda on gender equity and civil rights. In April 2014, guidance issued by the Education Department on sexual violence explicitly mentioned that transgender students are protected under Title IX. LGBT advocates saw it as an important moment for the transgender community, but have wanted the administration to go even further in clarifying the law.

School Sex Books Mandatory: Virginia Governor Veto

Representatives of the citizens of Virginia overwhelmingly passed legislation to require schools to inform parents of sexually explicit book assignments in order to allow parents to "opt out" their children, but the governor vetoed the bill this week saying that the state Board of Education, which is eternally controlled by liberals, might someday enact something similar on its own initiative.
[Besides,] "this legislation lacks flexibility and would require the label of 'sexually explicit' to apply to an artistic work based on a single scene, without further context."
-- Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D), Virginia
Informing parents of the curriculum would impede the school's sexual indoctrination programs.

-- From "Virginia Governor Vetoes Sexually Explicit Books Bill" posted at WRC-TV4 NBC News Washington, D.C. 4/4/16

The measure, which is backed by GOP House Speaker William Howell, was brought to the General Assembly by a Fairfax County mother [Laura Murphy] who protested the use of Toni Morrison's 'Beloved' in her son's high school senior class. The 1987 novel set in the post-Civil War era includes scenes depicting sex, rape and bestiality.

The bill initially flew through the GOP-controlled House with unanimous support [including from all of the Democrats]. But outcry from Democrats and free-speech groups grew as the bill received more attention. The 22-17 vote in the Senate means there's likely not enough support to override the governor's veto in that chamber.

The bill would direct the state Board of Education to create a policy on sexually explicit books for elementary and secondary schools. Under the policy, schools would be required to provide an alternative to the sexually explicit book if a parent objects.

“School boards are best positioned to ensure that our students are exposed to those appropriate literary and artistic works that will expand students’ horizons and enrich their learning experiences,” [Gov. McAuliffe] said in the veto message.

Del. R. Steven Landes (R- Augusta), chairman of the House Education Committee, sponsored the bill at the request of House Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford), making it a top priority for the overwhelmingly Republican House.

Landes called the veto “disappointing” and said he would introduce the legislation again next year if the state doesn’t change the regulations.

The National Council of Teachers of English and the National Coalition Against Censorship opposed the bill; the conservative Family Foundation of Virginia favored it.

“Parents make decisions every day about what video games kids play, what movies they watch and what material they consume online,” [Del.] Landes said in a statement. “They should have the same opportunity within the classroom.”

Landes said Virginia already has similar policies for sexual education and science curriculum. He said he brought the legislation because the Board of Education has “put this issue off for several years” and said he would reintroduce the bill again next year if regulatory changes are not implemented.

“It is remarkable that the governor has so little respect for parents who simply want to know and be free to make decisions about what their kids are being taught,” said Victoria Cobb, president of the Family Foundation of Virginia.

“Parents are not the enemy of education, they are the driving force behind their children learning and succeeding,” she added. “If schools and teachers have nothing to hide, there should have been no opposition to this common sense transparency measure.”

Women's Breasts vs. Men's: Could Police Discern?

After a New Hampshire judge essentially legalized topless female nudity, state lawmakers considered a bill banning bare female breasts/nipples in public, but critics explained that such a law would require police officers to determine if the offender is a man or a woman and because of the myriad new transgender rights, any apparent female offender could simply claim to "identify as a man" and thus negate the infraction.
"It's a shame that some folks are more concerned with exposing their breasts in public places than they are concerned about how families and children may be impacted by being forced to experience this evolving societal behavior.  This is about a movement to change the values of New Hampshire society."

The House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee had voted last week, 18-0, to kill the bill, with several members saying passing the bill would guarantee the law would be challenged in federal court because it violated equal protection rights under the Constitution.

Some on the committee said the place to enact restrictions is at the local level, not statewide, and others noted that if a women had commited a second offense under the proposal she would have had to register as a sex offender and could have spent up to seven years in jail.

New Hampshire, like most states, does not have laws prohibiting women from going topless if men are allowed the same privilege.

From "NH nipple ban rejected, saving cops from 'uncomfortable position'" by The Associated Press 3/9/16

The House voted against making it a misdemeanor for women to show their breasts with "reckless disregard" for whether it would offend someone. The bill was partly a response to a "Free the Nipple" movement that led to two women being cited for going topless at a Gilford beach. A judge dismissed that case in February.

Bill supporters had cautioned that allowing women to go topless at beaches could lead to them also going topless at libraries and Little League games. They said they were trying to shield families and children.

[However, the House committee reported that] the bill also would place police officers "in the uncomfortable position of having to determine the gender of a potential offender."

From "Lawmakers Behind 'Nipple Bill' Warn of Societal Decline" by Kathleen Ronayne, Associated Press 2/29/16

At Monday's public hearing, backers of the legislation cautioned that allowing women to go topless at beaches will create a slippery slope where women are going topless at public libraries and Little League baseball games. [Rep. Brian] Gallagher and Rep. Peter Spanos, a co-sponsor of the bill, said New Hampshire could lose tourism dollars if women are wandering public places with their breasts uncovered. Both said they brought the legislation in response to concern from constituents over the incident in Gilford.

But opponents charge such a ban violates the constitution by creating different standards for men and women. Kari Stephens, a Hampton resident who said she goes topless at the beach, argued lawmakers shouldn't be taking away a right that women in New Hampshire already have.

The New Hampshire chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union also opposes the bill.

“Recently some information has been brought forward that requires additional investigation and follow-up to determine a proper course of action,” Rutherford wrote. “Pending further investigation, we are going to ask students who are displaying the symbol showing a rainbow pattern with a circle and a line, at least for now, to remove symbols while at school.”

Legalize Incest, Post-death Sex, Say Young Liberals

Descending the inevitable slippery slope, the youth wing of the Swedish Liberal party has voted in favor of the legalization of incest and necrophilia saying that one person's vial and disgusting sexual orientation is another person's right to free expression.
“It should be your own decision what happens with your body after you die, and if that happens to be that you want to bequeath your remains to a museum or to science, or if you want to bequeath your remains to someone to sleep with them, then that should be OK.”

Her anti-morality policies were supported by the LPP’s entire youth wing at a vote over the weekend.

If adopted as law, two family members who are both over the age of 15 who want to have sexual relations with each over would be entirely free to do so. Also, if a person states in their final will and testament that they want to leave their body behind for people to have sex with it, they would be free to do so also.

From "Youth Voters Say Legalize Incest And Necrophilia In Sweden" by Zachary Volkert, The Inquisitr News 2/23/16

The nearly universally reviled taboos of incest and necrophilia have long been a scare tactic for conservatives who argued that that the legalization of homosexuality would lead to increasingly squeamish sex acts to find acceptance. It is techniques like this that are one of the primary reasons young voters are less likely to vote for Republicans.

Noting that it was the next logical step in sexual liberation, Cecilia [Johnnson] stated that it wasn’t sensible to continue with a ban on incest and necrophilia just because people found it unappealing, according to quotes translated by The Daily Mail.

The Swedish Youth party is not without their arguments. Autonomy of one’s own body, they stress, also extends to things that people might find repulsive. They don’t believe that incest or necrophilia should necessarily be illegal just because they have complicated histories and low level of interest.

If a man says he is a woman and walks into the women’s restroom, it is now illegal for a business owner to intervene. That is the result of a new rule created by the Washington State Human Rights Commission that went into effect Dec. 26.

The issue has been heating up in Washington for a while now. School boards throughout Washington State have been wrestling with the matter.

However, this is the first statewide mandate that forces businesses to cooperate with a customer’s confusion about his or her gender.

The rule, WSR 15-11-104, states, "all covered entities, except school districts...shall allow individuals the use of restrooms, locker rooms, dressing rooms...that are consistent with that individual's gender identity." The rule was not enacted by the state Legislature, but has the same force as a law.

The rule prohibits owners/management from requiring "use inconsistent with gender identity" and, "if another person expresses concern or discomfort about a person who uses a facility that is consistent with the person’s gender identity, the person expressing discomfort should be directed to a separate or gender neutral facility, if available."

In other words, if a female in the women's room felt uncomfortable by the presence of a male with gender dysphoria, she would be the one, by rule, asked to use a different restroom.

When asked "What defines a woman?," Laura Lindstrand, policy analyst for the Washington State Human Rights Commission, said the person simply "has to identify as a woman."

Lindstrand said she was unable to answer whether or not there should be a legal, not biological, definition of 'woman.'

From "Transgenders in Washington state to use restrooms based on identity, not anatomy, commission rules" by Valerie Richardson, The Washington Times 12/31/15

State legislators are already working to draft bills in reaction to the Washington State Human Rights Commission’s newly enacted rules, saying the panel overstepped its authority by leaving the Legislature out of such a major change in policy and understanding.

The commission took action after an eight-month dispute over transgender access at the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap counties, which at first allowed and then prohibited opposite-sex use of bathrooms, showers and locker rooms.

Emily Chiang, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington, described the action as a clarification of the 2006 Washington Law Against Discrimination, not a wholesale change.

“What they’ve done is basically clarify existing Washington state law, which already prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity,” Ms. Chiang said in an email. “So, it wouldn’t really make sense for the Legislature to be involved, the HRC action is designed to give additional guidance to people looking to understand the state law.”

[Republican state Rep. Graham Hunt] said the commission’s rule poses a threat to public safety by making it virtually impossible to stop sexual predators from taking advantage of the law to gain access to women’s restrooms and other facilities.

Obama Demands Communal Nudity—Illinois School Balks

President Obama has personally championed every deviant aspect of the Gay Agenda, even sexually-confused transgenderism, and has utilized every power lever of the federal government to fundamentally transform America.  However, Illinois' largest high school district (in suburban Chicago) is now risking a punishing loss of federal funding for rejecting a federal order that forces a boy into the girls shower, even though the liberal-minded school administration has already allowed the boy free access to the girls toilet facilities.
"For all of us, our [gender] identity is who we are.  This identity, though their body doesn't match, their identity is that of the other gender. And we fully, fully support that and acknowledge that. [But] At some point, we have to balance the privacy rights of 12,000 students with other particular, individual needs of another group of students. Our principles that we stand on are the ones that define who we are."

“What they are asking us to do is to have opposite sex students in the same open area of the locker room and shower and that we do not do,” he said. “This is about simply protecting student privacy.”

Cates says they’ve given the student a separate changing room like they do at all five of its high schools.

. . . The [male] student, who identifies as female, is asking that she [he] receive full access to the girls' locker room.

School officials and board of education members worked for months in hopes of finding an acceptable compromise, [Supt.] Cates said. The proposed solution, which Cates said was "quickly squelched," required the transgender student to change and shower in private.

Transgender students also are given the option to use the locker room of the sex from which they transitioned, a district spokesman said.

If the district cannot reach a compromise with federal officials, it risks losing some of the $6 million it receives in federal funding. Cates also acknowledged that litigation is a likely outcome.

From "Dist. 211 setting up private changing room for transgender student" by Melissa Silverberg, Daily Herald 10/12/15

A federal mandate from the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights states that under Title IX requirements, transgender students should have full access to sex-specific locker rooms.

Instead, District 211 says it will provide the student with a private area to change "to protect the privacy rights of all students when changing clothes or showering before or after physical education and after-school activities, while also providing accommodations necessary to meet the unique needs of individual students," according to a statement issued by the district Monday.

School board President Mucia Burke said the decision not to obey the federal mandate was reached collectively by the board and district administration.

Burke said District 211 has been complying with all federal directives concerning transgender students except unrestricted access to locker rooms. Transgender students in District 211 can change their name, use the bathroom of the gender with which they identify, as there are private stalls, and participate in sex-identified sports teams according to IHSA policy.

A transgender student is [a] student who consistently and uniformly asserts a gender identity different from the student's assigned sex, or for which there is documented legal or medical evidence that the gender identity is sincerely held as part of the student's core identity, according to the district's statement.

Parents Say Public Schools Undesirable, Feds Admit

According to a report from the U.S. Department of Education, since President Obama was elected, a surging number of parents across America say they are choosing to homeschool their children because public schools don't actually educate children, and worse, harbor a bad environment for children. While fewer parents are choosing to homeschool for religious reasons, they nonetheless want their children to be nurtured in moral surroundings.

-- From "Home-Schooling Movement Surges 62% in a Single Decade" by Peter Jesserer Smith, National Catholic Register 7/29/15

Home schooling has experienced massive growth in the United States for more than a decade. The face of the home-education movement has also changed. Fewer parents now attribute the need to give religious instruction as the driving motivation behind their choice . . .

The Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) shows the number of children educated at home between kindergarten and 12th grade increased close to 62% between 2003 and 2012. The number of home-schooled students between the ages of 5 and 17 in the U.S. rose from 1.09 million in 2003 to 1.77 million by 2012, accounting for 3.4% of the school-age population.

[Home School Legal Defense Association staff attorney Mike] Donnelly said the “National Household Education Survey” of parents in 2012 show the reasons why most parents choose to home school have diversified beyond simply religious grounds. Ninety-one percent of parents cited concerns about the environment of public schools, 77% cited moral instruction, and 74% expressed concerns about the academic instruction. A lower number, of 64%, listed wanting to give their children religious instruction as a reason, followed by 44% saying they wanted their child to have a nontraditional form of education.

When it came to parents listing the single most important reason for home schooling, the survey showed 25% of parents said they were concerned about the environment of other schools; 22% said “other reasons” (including family time, finances, travel and distance), and 19% said they were dissatisfied with the academic instruction at other schools.

From "Number of homeschooled children in U.S. continues to grow" By Wes Mayberry, The Daily Sentinel (Scottsboro, AL) 7/24/15

According to statistics from the National Center for Education, the number of homeschooled students in the U.S. grew from 850,000 in 2009 to almost 1.8 million in 2011. And National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI) data from January says there are now an estimated 2.2 million home-educated students nationwide. An estimated 23,220 of these students live in Alabama, according to AL.com. NHERI President Dr. Brian Ray calls homeschooling the fastest-growing form of education in the country.

. . . According to Ray, the most common reasons parents give for homeschooling their kids are to customize the curriculum and learning environment for each child; accomplish more academically than in schools; enhance family relationships between children and parents and among siblings; provide guided and reasoned social interactions with youthful peers and adults; provide a safer environment for children and youth because of the physical violence, drugs, alcohol, psychological abuse, racism and improper and unhealthy sexuality associated with institutional schools; and/or teach and impart a particular set of values, beliefs and worldviews to children and youth.

. . . Ray says home-educated children typically score 15 to 30 percentile points higher than public-school students on standardized academic achievement tests. And homeschoolers have proven to score above average on the SAT and ACT that colleges consider for admission. Further, according to home-school.com, homeschooled students have an average college freshman GPA of 3.41 that rises to 3.46 in their senior year. By comparison, non-homeschooled students have a college freshman GPA of 3.12 that rises to 3.16 in their senior year. And homeschoolers graduate from college at a higher rate than their peers, 66.7 percent to 57.5 percent.

From "Homeschooled Students Increase as Concerns over Common Core Remain" by Justin Petrisek, Catholic Education Daily, Cardinal Newman Society 7/23/15

The latest studies show that an increasing number of students are being homeschooled by their parents in order to avoid Common Core, which is found even in many Catholic schools. There is no question that the link is there and that parents are extremely concerned about how Common Core will affect their children’s Catholic education, said Florida Catholics Against Common Core’s Rolando Perez.

“There is great concern about the indoctrination, data mining and constant testing that Common Core has brought to schools, including Catholic schools,” said Perez, who along with other concerned parents formed Florida Catholics Against Common Core. The priority for Common Core State Standards seems to be preparing students for future jobs, Perez affirmed. The standards then become utilitarian and distract from students’ moral and spiritual formation by placing too much emphasis on testing and performance.

From "Home schooling up 9.6 percent in [Florida]" posted at Herald-Tribune (Sarasota, FL) 7/19/15

The number of home-schooled children in Florida saw its biggest increase in five years during 2014-15, according to a recently released Florida Department of Education report.

Last year, the state counted 84,096 children in home schooling, up 9.6 percent from a year earlier.

The largest spike in home-schooled students prior to that, according to the Florida Department of Education data, was a 10.7 percent increase from 2010 to 2011, when there were 69,281 students from 6,714 families.

Since that time, the number of students has risen about 21 percent.

From "Celebrating a Homeschooling Milestone" by Dr. Terry Stoops, Carolina Journal 7/7/15

We know that the total number of homeschool students more than doubled over the last dozen years . . .

As the New York Times recently noted, state regulations often impede the growth of homeschooling in states such as Pennsylvania. For years, North Carolina’s homeschool law allowed only parents and guardians to provide instruction. Two years ago, homeschool families led a successful effort to change North Carolina’s definition of homeschooling.

. . . the homeschool movement is no longer monolithic. North Carolinians from a variety of racial, political, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds make great sacrifices to homeschool their children. Some endeavor to provide an education consistent with their family’s religious or cultural views.

Others are dissatisfied with the academic quality of their local public schools. Still others homeschool due to concerns about bullying or potentially harmful social environments sometimes found in traditional school settings.

Some parents prefer their children not attend public or private schools, in fear of their child not learning at a quick enough pace, falling behind or maybe even being bullied. For these parents, homeschooling was an option they were willing to explore.

Online programs and schools are growing in Indianapolis. Some programs are more online-based, while other programs have a blended-learning approach, using online and in-person courses to teach students. . . .

From "County homeschool enrollment growing rapidly" by Joe Callahan, Staff Writer, Ocala Star-Banner 7/28/15

Prior to 1900, homeschooling was the norm. As more public schools were built in the early 20th century, parents started sending their children to school. By the early 1970s, 30 states had outlawed homeschooling and by 1973 there were only 13,000 home-schooled children nationwide. But since then, especially since 1990, when enrollment was only 275,000 students, there has been a homeschooling explosion.

By 1997, homeschooling had reached 1 million students and today there are 2.2 million nationwide.

One big reason for a homeschooling explosion in Florida is that these students do not have to take the dozens of standardized tests that some say are now dominating education.

. . . colleges do not require a student to have a high school diploma. They only require a transcript, usually with grades from 24 courses, and a national test score such as the ACT or SAT.

From "Homeschooling grows in Florida, with Duval at forefront" by Denise Smith Amos, Florida Times-Union 7/27/15

. . . big reasons parents give [for homeschooling]: dissatisfaction with government or government-run schools, under-performing local schools, bullying or a fears about violence, and the need for special academic, social of physical accommodations for students.

Parents choose from a plethora of online classes, Internet-based learning materials and blended learning centers, allowing in-person and computer instruction. There also are online schools — public, private and charters — which can allow students to take one class or a series of classes.

In North Florida, home-schooling groups like HERI and co-ops let parents share teaching duties, hire teachers and tutors for elective courses, sell or swap curricula or provide group arts or science labs. HERI even hosts graduations, proms and field trips.

Under Florida law, public high schools have to open their interscholastic sports or activities such as band or choir to home-schoolers. Many schools let them attend day classes related to those pursuits.

Media, Obama Conspire With Abortionists re: Videos

As a third undercover video was released concerning Planned Parenthood involvement in selling aborted baby organs, the nation's largest abortion provider begged mainstream media outlets to embargo the video.  Meanwhile, the Obama administration defended Planned Parenthood and the right of women to kill their unborn children, and is refusing to investigate the allegations, but rather is considering a plea by top Democrat Nancy Pelosi to persecute the whistleblower pro-life organization that exposed Planned Parenthood's butchery.

The media have also largely ignored thousands of protesters across the nation calling for an end to taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood has enlisted high-profile Washington public relations firm SKDKnickerbocker as it scrambles to deal with the ongoing scandal and release of a third undercover video Tuesday showing a clinic’s staff handling fetal tissue after an abortion.

SKDKnickerbocker is no newbie to working on Planned Parenthood issues. The Democratically aligned firm is run by well-connected operatives, including Anita Dunn and Hilary Rosen. It also worked with the group during the 2012 election cycle, according to SKDKnickerbocker’s website.

The group circulated a memo to reporters and producers late Monday that discouraged them from airing the undercover videos, arguing that they were obtained under false identification and violated patient privacy.

Planned Parenthood also has lobbying firms Capitol Counsel on retainer. Glover Park Group has also previously done work for the group. Planned Parenthood spent nearly $1.3 million on lobbying during the first six months of 2015, according to federal disclosures.

From "Planned Parenthood’s PR Firm Is Asking Reporters Not To Air Undercover Video" by Chuck Ross, Reporter, Daily Caller 7/28/15

Politico itself may have gotten SKDKnickerbocker’s message. As flagged by The Federalist, the outlet sent a tweet of its scoop at around noon on Tuesday noting that the PR firm “circulated a memo” to reporters and news producers. That tweet was later deleted, however. Politico did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

SKDKnickerbocker’s memo mirrors language used by Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards in her numerous attempts to discredit the Center for Medical Progress [CMP, the whistleblower pro-life organization].

“This has been a three-year, well funded by the most militant wing of the anti-abortion movement in this country to try to entrap doctors and, of course, highly doctored videos which show absolutely they — doctors repeatedly said, it’s all been edited out, Planned Parenthood does not at all profit from fetal tissue donation, which is an important element of health care research in this country,” Richards said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.”

From "Planned Parenthood Threatens TV Stations Demanding They Censor Shocking Undercover Videos" by Sarah Zagorski, LifeNews.com 7/28/15

Here’s a portion of their threatening letter:
When your network decides whether to consider this story newsworthy, or whether to use any of this footage at all, we urge you to keep this in mind: The extremists who entered Planned Parenthood labs under false pretenses violated research protocol, and, worse, violated the privacy of patients involved. Those patients’ privacy should not be further violated by having this footage shared by the media.

The storage and examination processes that CMP used to get this footage are medically necessary. It is necessary medical professionals ensure an abortion is complete so that patients do not get an infection. When tissue is donated for medical research, these steps are also necessary for the donations to be completed. It is also medically necessary that researchers evaluate the laboratory procedures of a medical provider for safety standards and best practices.

Some of the conversations and protocols that occur in medical settings and among professional peers can sound jarring when taken out of context. While this can be difficult to hear or watch, it should not be used as an excuse to defund Planned Parenthood.

CMP gained access to Planned Parenthood facilities under false pretenses and filmed without securing approval from the Planned Parenthood staff being filmed or the patients whose privacy is compromised by this secret videotaping. The material should not be aired.

“Let’s have an investigation of those people who were trying to ensnare Planned Parenthood in a controversy that doesn’t exist,” [House Minority Leader Nancy] Pelosi said Thursday in her first public remarks about Planned Parenthood since the first undercover video surfaced last week.

“Planned Parenthood has said that they have done nothing illegal,” she said. “They do not ever charge, which would be illegal, for fetal tissue. They have only defrayed the cost of mailing that to someone, which is not breaking the law.”

Her remarks come one day after White House press secretary Josh Earnest also defended the women’s health provider.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch said Wednesday that she [as the Department of Justice] would review “all information” available before deciding to launch a full investigation.

President Obama’s top healthcare official [Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell] defended federal funding for Planned Parenthood at a hearing on Tuesday as Republicans zeroed in on cutting off its money.

“What I think is important is that our HHS funding is focused on issues of preventative care for women, things like mammograms and cancer prevention screenings,” Burwell told the House Education and the Workforce Committee.

Burwell resisted those calls [from Congress for an investigation], deferring to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

From "Third graphic Planned Parenthood video released" by Jennifer Haberkorn, Politico 7/28/15

A new undercover video released by opponents of Planned Parenthood on Tuesday includes graphic depictions of a technician sorting through the tissue collected after an abortion.

The latest tape also includes footage of a physician in a laboratory talking with an actor posing as a purchaser of tissue samples. “I think the per-item [pricing] works a little better, just because we can see how much we can get out of it,” she said. The group that made the videos, which calls itself the Center for Medical Progress, identified the physician as Dr. Savita Ginde, who is vice president and medical director of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains in Denver.

The video, the third released by the Center for Medical Progress, includes an interview with a woman who says she used to work at Stem Express, in a Planned Parenthood clinic. “I thought I was going to be just drawing blood, not procuring tissue from aborted fetuses,” Holly O’Donnell, the former procurement technician, said in the video.

Republican lawmakers have called on HHS and the Justice Department to investigate whether Planned Parenthood has broken federal laws preventing the group from profiting on fetal tissue donation.

From "Anti-abortion activists rally across US as third video targets Planned Parenthood" by Lauren Gambino, UK Guardian 7/28/15

Coinciding with the newest video’s release, anti-abortion activists staged “women betrayed” rallies in dozens of cities around the country to protest the organization. At the US Capitol in Washington, protesters were joined by Republican presidential contenders Ben Carson and Rand Paul, along with several other anti-abortion politicians.

During the rally, Paul announced that he had secured a commitment in the Senate to vote on a bill that would defund the organization before Congress recesses. Republicans face an uphill battle to secure the 60 of 100 senate votes needed to approve the bill – there are 54 Republicans in the Senate and only a handful of anti-abortion Democrats.

David Daleiden, the Center for Medical Progress’s head, has said there are several more videos to be released soon, in addition to between 100 and 200 pages of documents from Planned Parenthood and its “proxies”.

. . . the Washington, D.C. protest, which was organized by the Students for Life of America, [included] presidential candidates Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.

Cruz told the crowd that the recent videos display enough evidence to suggest that Planned Parenthood officials have violated federal law and that the Department of Justice should conduct a criminal investigation into the matter.

Carson argued that the recent videos are another sign that the American society is becoming a more "pro-death" and "evil" society. But with the emergence of the videos, Carson said that the opportunity has arisen for moral individuals to recreate a pro-life culture.

Although Cruz and many other Congress members have called on Attorney General Loretta Lynch to authorize the Department of Justice to conduct a full investigation into Planned Parenthood's organ compensation practices, Cruz implied that such an investigation wouldn't happen because of the partisanship of Obama's Justice Department.

Vampire Normalization Urged in Idaho Univ. Study

University researchers have concluded that vampires in America "seem to function normally" and are simply people who have an "alternative identity" (think sexual orientation) who should be treated like everyone else by government social workers because "We should not be surprised to see a proliferation of nontraditional identities in the future."
"Real vampires seem to be ordinary human beings with common, everyday human issues, such as trying to be successful in relationships and careers, managing stress, coping with daily living tasks, and adjustments to transitions, to name a few."

Vampires are real. No, not the impossibly perfect Cullens in the "Twilight" movies or tortured but well-dressed souls in CW shows. But human beings who self-identify as vampires and may drink blood or sleep in coffins. And these people need as much psychotherapy and medical help as the rest of us.

That's the conclusion of a study by D.J. Williams, director of social work at Idaho State University, and published in the July issue of the peer-reviewed journal Critical Social Work.

Williams and his co-author, Emily E. Prior, a researcher at the College of the Canyons, interviewed 11 vampires from across the United States and South Africa and found that they were reluctant to come out to clinicians because they were fearful about being labeled as being psychopathological or "perhaps wicked, and not competent to perform in typical social roles, such a parenting."

From "'Vampires' keep doctors in the dark for fear of stereotyping: study" posted at Reuters 7/7/15

Williams, who has studied self-identified vampires for nearly a decade, finds they come from every walk of life and profession, including doctors, attorneys and candlestick makers.

Except they are very, very tired. That’s apparently the chief reason they find a consenting adult willing to allow them to use a scalpel to make a tiny incision in the chest area so they can ingest a small amount of blood for energy, the study found.

“The real vampire community seems to be a conscientious and ethical one,” Williams said.

The challenge is finding non-judgmental clinicians to whom vampires can disclose their alternative lifestyles, he added.

From "Self-identified vampires subject of study by ISU professor" by Debbie Bryce, Idaho State Journal 7/9/15

“We live in an age of technology and live in a time when people can select new, alternate identities to fit how they understand themselves better,” Williams said. “We really need to understand some of these new identities and new ways to identify ourselves, and some of these new identities do not fit into stereotypes. Helping professionals of all varieties need more education on these kinds of topics. ”

“It’s not a religion. It’s akin to our sexual orientation,” Williams said. “It’s their identity, and it’s an important part of who they are.”

Williams hopes his research helps to shine light on the issue of alternate identities and the need to be sensitive and aware.

“In our codes of ethics — and this is true of social work, counseling, psychology and medicine — we talk about being open and non-judgmental to try to understand a client’s world and context,” Williams said. “This study explored the world and context of self-proclaimed vampires. A lot of clinicians are still not willing to accept these types of studies or are not aware of them.”

“People don’t seem to be diagnosed as vampires, at least not the way that the vampires in our study use that term. The self-identified vampires that we have dealt with seem to recognize at some point in their lives that they chronically seem to need extra energy.

“Eventually, they learn that there are other people who seem to have this same need, and they find a community with an explanation that seems to make sense to them,” Williams said.

Eighty-two percent of the study participants reported their gender as female, with one “intersexed, female assigned individual” and one “postoperative, male-to-female transsexual.” One participant identified as male, and one as “gender-queer.”

Five said they were pagan; four were wiccan; one identified as “spiritual”; and one said they had no religious affiliation.
