6-year-old Girls Want to be Sex Objects: Study
For background, read School Sexualization Standards by NEA, Abortionists and also read Schools, Abortionists Sexualize Kids for Valentines as well as Bishops Investigate Girl Scouts' Sexualization
-- From "Girls as young as six want to look sexy: Study" posted at CNN-IBN 7/17/12
Using a different set of dolls for each question, the [research] team then asked each girl to choose the doll that: looked like herself, looked how she wanted to look, was the popular girl in school, she wanted to play with.
"It's very possible that girls wanted to look like the sexy doll because they believe sexiness leads to popularity, which comes with many social advantages," said lead researcher Christy Starr, who was surprised at how many 6- to 7-year-old girls chose the sexualised doll as their ideal self.
Starr and her team also looked at factors that influenced the girls' responses. Most of the girls were recruited from two public schools, but a smaller subset was recruited from a local dance studio. The girls in this latter group actually chose the non-sexualised doll more often for each of the four questions than did the public-school group.
According to the researchers, media consumption alone did not influence girls to prefer the sexy doll. But girls who watched a lot of TV and movies and who had moms who reported self-objectifying tendencies, such as worrying about their clothes and appearance many times a day, were more likely to say the sexy doll was popular.

From "Why 6-Year-Old Girls Want to Be Sexy" by Jennifer Abbasi, LiveScience Contributor 7/16/12
The authors suggest that the media or moms who sexualize women may predispose girls toward objectifying themselves; then, the other factor (mom or media) reinforces the messages, amplifying the effect. On the other hand, mothers who reported often using TV and movies as teaching moments about bad behaviors and unrealistic scenarios were much less likely to have daughters who said they looked like the sexy doll. The power of maternal instruction during media viewing may explain why every additional hour of TV- or movie-watching actually decreased the odds by 7 percent that a girl would choose the sexy doll as popular, Starr said. "As maternal TV instruction served as a protective factor for sexualization, it’s possible that higher media usage simply allowed for more instruction."
Mothers' religious beliefs also emerged as an important factor in how girls see themselves. Girls who consumed a lot of media but who had religious mothers were protected against self-sexualizing, perhaps because these moms "may be more likely to model higher body-esteem and communicate values such as modesty," the authors wrote, which could mitigate the images portrayed on TV or in the movies.
However, girls who didn’t consume a lot of media but who had religious mothers were much more likely to say they wanted to look like the sexy doll. "This pattern of results may reflect a case of 'forbidden fruit' or reactance, whereby young girls who are overprotected from the perceived ills of media by highly religious parents … begin to idealize the forbidden due to their underexposure," the authors wrote. Another possibility is that mothers of girls who displayed sexualized attitudes and behaviors had responded by restricting the amount of TV and movies their daughters could watch. Regardless, the authors underlined, "low media consumption is not a silver bullet" against early self-sexualization in girls.

Darwinists' Monkeys Replace Humans in Ads Study
-- From "Can 'marketing' sway a monkey's choices?" by UPI 8/1/11
Yale psychology Professor Laurie Santos says the experiment is an attempt to determine if [human] susceptibility [to advertisements] is embedded in our DNA inherited from long-ago ancestors of both people and monkeys or whether it is a strictly human behavior, The Boston Globe reported Monday.
The new study seeks to find if human behaviors, such as responding to marketing to make what might seem seem like irrational decisions about wants and desires, are also present in animals.
The plan is to create a kind of visual message to see if advertising can change a monkey's preferences between two things he might like equally well.

From "Targeting an audience of monkeys" by Carolyn Y. Johnson, Boston Globe Staff 8/1/11
For years, researchers have been testing whether elements of complex human cognitive abilities, from language to altruism, are shared by other animals, and in many instances they have found we are less distinct than once thought. Santos and others are interested in the evolutionary origins of a less admirable set of traits - the biases in our thinking that can lead us to make bad decisions about money, such as overestimating the value of objects, or poorly assessing risk.
Then last summer, Santos met Keith Olwell and Elizabeth Kiehner of Proton Studio, the New York ad agency, at a conference where she was presenting her research. The ad executives were fascinated that the monkeys used money like people often do. Researchers wondered whether they would they act like consumers in other ways.
These types of experiments have critics. Alan Silberberg, a psychology professor at American University who published a critique of one of Santos’s studies, thinks researchers who test for human behaviors in animals are often too quick to draw broad conclusions from results.

Proved: Tea Party Movement is Christian
For background, read 'Teavangelical Party' Emerges from 2010 Election Polling and also read Christian Tea Party Analysis is Media Priority as well as Americans Agree with Tea Party, not D.C. Leaders
UPDATE 8/16/11: New York Times Denigrates Tea Party Movement as Christian (see article excerpts below)
UPDATE 9/24/12: However, Will 'Wimpy' Pastors Engage the War on Christianity?
-- From "But who's the tea party's candidate?" by Bill Schneider, Politico 3/15/11
The class split among Republicans is between country-club conservatives and “values voters,” who have ties to the religious right. Reagan drew strong support from both wings of the party. So did George W. Bush. Both got elected to two terms.
Where does the tea party fit in? Demographically, tea party supporters look like values voters — that is, right-wing populists.
In fact, there’s a lot of overlap between the tea party and the religious right. A survey last year by the Public Religion Research Institute found that nearly half (47 percent) of tea party supporters also consider themselves part of the Christian conservative movement.

From "The intersection of tea party and religion" by Jamshid Ghazi Askar, Deseret News 3/18/11
[The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life] reports that 44 percent of white evangelicals agree with the tea party movement while only 8 percent disagree (48 percent are indifferent). Conversely, voters are significantly less likely to profess support for the tea party if they are Jewish (15 percent agree, 49 percent disagree), African-American Protestants (7 percent agree, 37 percent disagree) or atheists (12 percent agree, 67 percent disagree).
The study further reveals that tea party supporters are much more likely than the average voter to list religion as the determinative factor for their stances on major social issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage.
"The Tea Party rank and file are not in fact secular libertarians but are social conservatives largely drawn from the ranks of the Christian Right," [Robert Jones, CEO and founder of the Public Religion Research Institute] writes.

From "The Tea Party and Religion" by Scott Clement & John C. Green, The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life 2/23/11
Is [the Tea Party movement] solely a movement to reduce the size of government and cut taxes, as its name – some people refer to it as the Taxed Enough Already party – implies? Or do its supporters share a broader set of conservative positions on social as well as economic issues? Does the movement draw support across the religious spectrum? Or has the religious right “taken over” the Tea Party, as some commentators have suggested?
In addition to adopting a conservative approach to the economy, Tea Party supporters also tend to take socially conservative positions on abortion and same-sex marriage. . . .
Support for the Tea Party varies dramatically across religious groups. Surveys from November 2010 through February 2011 show that white evangelical Protestants are roughly five times as likely to agree with the movement as to disagree with it . . .
Americans who support the conservative Christian movement, sometimes known as the religious right, also overwhelmingly support the Tea Party. . . .
Overall, the Tea Party appears to be more widely known and to garner broader support than the religious right. . . .

* They are mostly social conservatives, not libertarians on social issues. Nearly two-thirds (63%) say abortion should be illegal in all or most cases, and less than 1-in-5 (18%) support allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry.

UPDATE 8/16/11: "Crashing the Tea Party" posted at the New York Times, by David E. Campbell, an associate professor of political science at Notre Dame, and Robert D. Putnam, a professor of public policy at Harvard -- the authors of “American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us.”
[Tea Partiers] were disproportionately social conservatives in 2006 — opposing abortion, for example — and still are today. Next to being a Republican, the strongest predictor of being a Tea Party supporter today was a desire, back in 2006, to see religion play a prominent role in politics. And Tea Partiers continue to hold these views: they seek “deeply religious” elected officials, approve of religious leaders’ engaging in politics and want religion brought into political debates. The Tea Party’s generals may say their overriding concern is a smaller government, but not their rank and file, who are more concerned about putting God in government.
This inclination among the Tea Party faithful to mix religion and politics explains their support for Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and Gov. Rick Perry of Texas. Their appeal to Tea Partiers lies less in what they say about the budget or taxes, and more in their overt use of religious language and imagery, including Mrs. Bachmann’s lengthy prayers at campaign stops and Mr. Perry’s prayer rally in Houston.

UPDATE 3/19/11: Sister Wives in tears over police`s polygamy probe
-- From "Police Investigating Sister Wives Stars for Felony Bigamy" by Mike Fleeman, Politico 9/27/10
"At the conclusion of the investigation, the evidence will be forwarded to the Utah County Attorney's Office for review and possible prosecution," says Lt. Darren Paul.
Police acknowledged that publicity over the show's announcement prompted the case. Bigamy is a third-degree felony in Utah but is rarely investigated.
"If we raise productive, contributing members of society who are moral and ethical, that's our final goal, whatever their path is," says Janelle, 40, who has six children with Kody.

From "Utah Police Investigate Plural Family for Bigamy" by Jennifer Dobner, Associated Press 9/28/10
The Browns have said they hoped that the reality show's peek into their lives would help broaden the public's understanding of plural families.
Utah last prosecuted a polygamist for bigamy in 2001. Tom Green, who was married to five women and drew the attention of Utah authorities after promoting his lifestyle on national TV talks shows, was convicted on bigamy, criminal nonsupport and child rape charges. He spent six years in prison and was released in 2007.
The Utah attorney general's office has investigated the state's secretive polygamous communities, but focused its efforts on cases involving allegations of abuse, sexual assault and fraud, not bigamy.
"It has been our office's position not to pursue cases of bigamy between consenting adults," the attorney general's spokesman, Scott Troxel, said Tuesday. "We want to use our resources wisely."

UPDATE 9/26/10: More and more TV shows and movies exhibit polygamy
-- From "One man, four wives, 13 children -- it's TLC's 'Sister Wives'" MSNBC 9/7/10
TLC just released the first sneak peak of "Sister Wives," a seven-part series that follows Kody Brown and his three -- soon to be four -- wives, and their combined 13 children.
From "'Sister Wives' Brings A Real-Life 'Big Love' Family To TLC" by Olivia Allin, TheFrisky.com posted at ABC News 8/15/10
Because TLC seems determined for there to be no kind of alternative family left intact, they're bringing us "Sister Wives." Which could basically be called "Big Love: The Reality Show."
The series will follow the fundamentalist Mormon family of Kody Brown and his four "sister wives"—Meri, Janelle, Christine, and their new wife, Robyn. Together, they have 13 children living in a Utah apartment building.
Polygamy is illegal, but Kody explained that his family isn't breaking any laws since, "It's one legal marriage and the rest are commitment marriages. Like every other American family this takes everything we've got." The show premieres on TLC at 10 p.m. on September 26.

Pediatricians: Kids Need Healthier Sex Ed
UPDATE 9/7/10: Coverage by Washington Times
-- From "American Academy of Pediatrics Says Media Portrayal of Sex ‘Unhealthy'" by Matt Cover, CNSNews.com Staff Writer 9/3/10
“There is a major disconnect between what mainstream media portray – casual sex and sexuality with no consequences – and what children and teenagers need – straightforward information about human sexuality and the need for contraception when having sex,” the AAP said.
This proliferation of inaccurate sexual messages has had documented effects on youth sexual behavior, the AAP reported. Kids exposed to sexual material on television are almost twice as likely to engage in sexually risky behavior at a younger age than youth whose parents limit their exposure to sexually saturated media.
These negative trends are happening at a time when public sexual education has favored a scientifically unfounded, abstinence only approach, said the organization, adding that as public policy has avoided providing youth with accurate information about sex, the media have become the sexual educator of “last resort.”
“Because so many sex education programs have recently been focused on abstinence only, the media have arguably become one of the leading sex educators in the United States today,” the AAP said. “Yet, parents and legislators fail to understand that although they may favor abstinence-only sex education (despite the lack of any evidence of its effectiveness), the media are decidedly not abstinence only.”

Popular 'Babysitter' Sexualizes Children - TV Hazards
-- From "Nickelodeon promotes 'naughty' games to kids" by Chelsea Schilling © 2010 WorldNetDaily 6/14/10
Nickelodeon links to AddictingGames.com from its websites for children, including Neopets.com and Nick.com. AddictingGames, a website owned by Nickelodeon parent company Viacom, features the Nickelodeon logo and has approximately 34 million monthly users.
The NewsBusters blog noted that the Nickelodeon website features racy games such as "Naughty Babysitter," "Booty Rider" and "You da Sperm!"
The game, called "Naughty Classroom," begins with three young boys sitting at the front of a classroom and admiring a photo of their female teacher.
A teacher walks into the classroom wearing a mini skirt and spike heels. At one point, she unbuttons her shirt and flashes her undergarments at her students. Players can prompt one of the male students to turn on a fan, and a gush of air lifts the teacher's skirt.
The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, a national coalition of health-care professionals, educators, advocacy groups and parents, has spoken out against Nickelodeon's promotion of AddictingGames, noting that thousands of parents have written the company to demand it remove links to AddictingGames from its children's websites. Members of the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood overwhelmingly chose AddictingGames as 2010's winner of the Toys Oppressive And Destructive to Young Children Award, also known as the TOADY, for the worst toy of the year.

State-controlled BBC Reduces Christian Broadcast Time
-- From "Church of England is 'living in the past', says BBC's head of religion" by Jonathan Wynne-Jones, Media Correspondent, London Telegraph 2/6/10
He dismissed claims that the BBC was marginalising religion as overly simplistic and argued that Christianity, in particular, was already covered well on television.
Bishops, clergy and lay members of the General Synod will vote this week on a motion calling on the state broadcaster to explain why its television coverage of Christianity has declined so steeply in recent years.
Output has fallen from 177 hours of religious programming on BBC television in 1987/88 to 155 hours in 2007/08 - a period during which the overall volume of programming has doubled.
Church leaders have been particularly criticial of the dearth of religious programmes shown on BBC television at Easter, with the Rt Rev Nigel McCulloch, the Bishop of Manchester, accusing the corporation of "overlooking" Good Friday.

More Sex on TV - Mainstream Media Elated
Viewers are about to see full-frontal male nudity, heterosexual, homosexual and group sex, and graphic scenes rarely — if ever — seen on mainstream TV.
-- From "Sex on TV: It's increasingly uncut — and unavoidable" by Gary Strauss, USA TODAY 1/21/10
MTV plans a June launch of The Hard Times of RJ Berger, a scripted comedy about a nerdy 15-year-old whose cool quotient heats up when his anatomical gift is accidentally exposed. And basic-cable network Spike's just-launched raunchy college-sports comedy Blue Mountain State (Tuesdays, 10 ET/PT) showed a masturbating school mascot on the Jan. 12 premiere, while last night's episode featured a scene suggesting oral sex between a coed and jock before the opening credits.
ABC's Cougar Town — which had a memorable scene that implied Courteney Cox's character administering oral sex to her date — premiered last fall. Also new in the past year: HBO's Hung, a dramedy about a well-endowed teacher moonlighting as a prostitute; National Geographic TV's adult-themed documentary series, Taboo; and VH1's titillating Sex Rehab With Dr. Drew.
Critics such as the Parents Television Council decry the mushrooming sexual content. "It's become downright ubiquitous," says council president Tim Winter. "Families are under siege, teenage girls are under siege. You don't know what the cultural impact will be down the road."
. . . Spartacus: Blood and Sand oozes explicit content.
[Spartacus star Lucy] Lawless portrays a conniving social climber who is nude in some scenes, commits adultery in others and uses sex to manipulate frenemies and family. One episode shows Lawless' character and her gladiator-camp-owner husband (John Hannah) manually stimulated by slaves before having sex. Upcoming episodes feature orgies and a gladiator whose large endowment ultimately leads to his downfall.
Noting the potentially off-putting content, the former Xena: Warrior Princess star concedes Spartacus isn't for everyone: "Pretty quickly, the audience has to realize they aren't in Kansas anymore. There will be (viewers) who are truly horrified and switch this off."

Obama Spokesman Lies on Abortion in Health Care Bill
UPDATE 10/8/09: More documentation of the lie
-- From "Obama Spokesman Falsely Claims Hyde Amendment Stops Abortion in Health Care" by Steven Ertelt, LifeNews.com Editor 10/7/09
CNS News reporter Fred Lucas asked Gibbs, the top spokesman for President Barack Obama, about a letter the Catholic bishops recently sent Congress pointing out that each of the current health care bills includes abortion subsidies.
"In a letter to senators last week the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said that, I'm quoting, 'So far the health-reform bills considered in committee, including the new Senate Finance Committee bill, have not met the president's challenge of barring the use of federal dollars for abortion,'" Lucas said. "Is that statement wrong?"
Gibbs replied, "Well, I don't want to get me into trouble at church, but I would mention there's a law that precludes the use of federal funds for abortion. That isn't going to be changed in these health care bills."
"There have been several amendments that would explicitly bar [federal funding for] abortions that were rejected," Lucas responded.
Gibbs replied, "Again, there's a fairly well-documented federal law that prevents it."
However, the fairly well-documented federal law is the Hyde amendment and it only applies to the Medicaid program that provides health care funds for poor Americans.

Homosexual Activists Attack Revelations of Lesbian Assaults
Two news stories about hundreds of lesbian gangs attacking and raping young girls in schools and other public locations have prompted a backlash against the reporters by members of the homosexual community.
The broadcasts by Memphis television station WPTY and Fox News host Bill O'Reilly quoted law enforcement authorities, victims, and even some gang members to document the growing number of attacks on young girls by lesbian gang members.
"The Eyewitness News Everywhere" report in Memphis documented incidents of gangs known as GTOs, or "Gays" Taking Over, attacking schoolgirls. Two prison inmates affiliated with the gang told the station they had begun meeting to offer each other support, but a younger generation of members had taken their group over for violence and rape.
Rod Wheeler, who has experience as a police detective, told O'Reilly of a growing national concern over lesbians and some men "recruiting kids as young as 10 years old in a lot of the schools in the communities all across the country." He estimated the presence of 150 gangs, including lesbian gangs, in the Washington area alone.
Some of the children, Wheeler said, "have actually reported that they were actually forced into, you know, performing sex acts and doing sex acts with some of these people."
On the Memphis report, Deputy Beverly Cobb of the Shelby County Gang Unit said lesbian gang members "will sodomize [with sex toys] and will force [young schoolgirls] to do all sexual acts. They are forcing themselves on our young girls in all our schools."
The report included a long list of Memphis-area schools where such incidents were documented.
The gang members, Cobb said, "carry weapons … they will use them quicker than any male that I've ever come upon – to try and fight them you'll get hurt."
Reports also said in some of the locations the organizations called themselves DTOs, or Dykes Taking Over.
But the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, which had tried to suppress the Memphis report before it aired, issued a statement charging the reporting was "without … one solid statistic or credible source."
Rashad Robinson, GLAAD's senior director of media programs, called the reporting "inaccurate tabloid journalism" and said it "perpetuates dangerous stereotypes about lesbians and feeds a climate of homophobia, anti-gay discrimination and violence."
Participants in several blogs simply ridiculed the reports. A writer who was identified as "Idaho Librul" told the "From the Left" website: "Thank goodness for Bill O'Reilly! I saw a group of rampaging lesbians just the other day going up and down my street. Oh wait a minute, come to think of it, they were Girl Scouts selling cookies. But I was terrified!"
On the After Ellen blog, another wrote, "Yes, it's true, we're just one cell short of being a full-fledged terrorist network. Don't bother asking us where bin Laden is – we'll never tell."
The story shouldn't be reported because the criminals happen to be lesbian? Talk about censorship...
Peter LaBarbera, of Americans for Truth, an organization publicizing information about the impact of the "gay" lifestyle, contends pro-homosexual influences have so permeated many media organizations that the "gay" promoters are accustomed to having only their side reported...

English-Language Media Wildly Overestimates Brazilian Gay Pride Numbers
From "English-Language Media Wildly Overestimated Brazil Gay Pride Numbers, Underestimated Pro-Family March" by Matthew Cullinan Hoffman, posted 6/15/07 at Lifesite.org
Some three million Christians marched through the streets of the Brazilian metropolis of Sao Paulo last week, only three days before the annual “Gay Parade”, chanting slogans against homosexuality and affirming their religious beliefs. The “March for Jesus”, held June 7th, was organized by a major evangelical protestant ministry in Brazil and included over thirty live bands playing religious music, many placed on top of flatbed trucks that rolled through the main avenues of the city.
One minister led the crowd, paraphrasing a traditional Latin exorcism prayer with “Vade retro, Satan!”, adding “Vade retro, homosexuality!” (Get back, Satan! Get back homosexuality!). Although the Associated Press, Reuters, and other English-speaking news services claimed that only a million people attended the march, the mainstream Brazilian press widely reported that three million attended, citing the Policia Militar (Military Police).
When questioned by the media, marchers denied hostility towards homosexuals, and expressed concern for their well-being. "Through the Bible, we know that God doesn't agree with what they do," members of one church group from the Vila CarrĂ£o neighborhood of Sao Paulo told the Brazilian news service G1. "We condemn their actions, and never the people. What we want is for them to know God."
...Three days later, the nation's annual "Gay Parade" presented a stark contrast to the March for Jesus. Over one million homosexual men and women marched down the city's main thoroughfare, many without shirts and dressed in drag outfits or wearing feathers.
They carried huge banners with the rainbow symbol that has been adopted by the international homosexual movement, and demanded an end to "machismo, racism, and homophobia". Last year's march resulted in the creation of a bill, currently pending in the Brazilian Congress, to outlaw all condemnations of homosexual behavior as "homophobia". The Gay Parade organizers this year demanded that such measures be accelerated.
Unlike the March for Jesus, the Gay Parade was frequently marred by violence between participants, according to Brazilian homosexual news outlets.Read the rest of the article.

American Psychological Association: Remove All Sexualized Images of Women in Media
To complete the report, the APA Task Force on the Sexualization of Girls studied published research on the content and effects of virtually every form of media, including television, music videos, music lyrics, magazines, movies, video games and the Internet. They also examined recent advertising campaigns and merchandising of products aimed toward girls.
Sexualization was defined by the task force as occurring when a person's value comes only from her/his sexual appeal or behavior, to the exclusion of other characteristics, and when a person is sexually objectified, e.g., made into a thing for another's sexual use.
"The consequences of the sexualization of girls in media today are very real and are likely to be a negative influence on girls' healthy development," says Eileen L. Zurbriggen, PhD, chair of the APA Task Force and associate professor of psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. "We have ample evidence to conclude that sexualization has negative effects in a variety of domains, including cognitive functioning, physical and mental health, and healthy sexual development."
According to the task force report, parents can play a major role in contributing to the sexualization of their daughters or can play a protective and educative role. The APA report calls on parents, school officials, and all health professionals to be alert for the potential impact of sexualization on girls and young women.
