Not only was the token Evangelical pastor, Louie Giglio, booted from the official presidential inauguration event, such that nothing but liberal compromisers of Biblical Truth will now be seen and heard, but Obama followers have demanded that an unaffiliated/unofficial prayer breakfast on inauguration day organized by Christians be denounced and boycotted.

Efforts by the Presidential Inaugural Committee to bridge the conservative-liberal divide by including an evangelical failed. Atlanta preacher Louie Giglio, known for his work to end human trafficking, withdrew from giving the benediction after the liberal group ThinkProgress found a sermon he gave in the 1990s, condemning gay relationships.

A headline on PewSitter.com, which posts news of interest to conservative Roman Catholics, read, "Obama to Use Civil Rights Activist and Not Clergy" for his inaugural invocation. Gabe Lyons, a young Christian thinker known for his pioneering Q conferences on evangelicalism, argued Giglio had been bullied off the stage by an "extreme minority" of activists.

. . . Darrell Bock, a New Testament scholar at the evangelical Dallas Theological Seminary, argued the inaugural is supposed to unite Americans across partisan lines after an election. "The problem here is if we're going to celebrate the diversity of America, which is what the inaugural representatives claim they're doing, we shouldn't have a litmus test applied to participants if it's also being recognized they are contributing in other ways to society," Bock said.

A “faith” organization [Faithful America] that gets money from “Open Society” founder and left-leaning 1 percenter George Soros says it doesn’t want chaplains to participate in a prayer meeting.

The online effort, which had gathered a little more than 100 signatures by Friday afternoon, said, “The hateful views of Pat Robertson, Joseph Farah, and Jonathan Cahn are deeply offensive to Christians across America. Please don’t spend Inauguration Day lending the prestige of your offices to their lies and conspiracy theories targeting President Obama.”

It is addressed to Rev. Patrick J. Conroy, chaplain, U.S. House of Representatives, and Barry C. Black, chaplain, U.S. Senate, who like hundreds – in fact thousands – of others from around Washington are invited to the events.

The theme of the presidential prayer event is to be II Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

The breakfast, which will take place just hours before President Barack Obama is publicly into office Monday, features special guests Pat Robertson, a televangelist whose commentary has managed to offend gays, Haitians and feminists alike, Jonathan Cahn, a preacher who believes some of Obama's actions are apocalyptic, and Joseph Farah, the editor of WorldNetDaily who has long pushed the birther conspiracy theories about the president's citizenship.

Black, a former chief of U.S. Navy chaplains, previously dropped out an evangelical conference in 2007 after he was pictured next to conservative columnist Ann Coulter in promotional material, the New York Times reported. The Senate Chaplain said at the time he felt his appearance would conflict with the job's "historic tradition of being nonpolitical, nonpartisan, nonsectarian."

Atheists Want Pastors Barred from School Lunches

The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation has threatened to sue the Conway, Arkansas public schools after a lone parent saw a Christian minister eating lunch at school with children from his church.  The parent tipped off the atheist organization, which then told the school that it's unconstitutional for such Christians to be there.

Liberty Institute, a nonprofit legal group, will evaluate the Conway Public Schools' equal-access policies on visitations during school lunches for free, superintendent Greg Murry said Friday.

[Liberty's General Council Jeff] Mateer said in a news release the district retained the institute "to conduct an investigation of the issues regarding equal access for visitors to the school and make a report and recommendation to the district on or before Feb. 12, 2013." The group will make a report that will go first to the superintendent and then the school board, he said.

The investigation is needed, officials have said, because the Foundation sent a "threatening" letter in October that said the district is in “constitutional violation” by allowing youth ministers to visit students who are in their church during lunchtime. The Foundation sends thousands of similar letters and is not always correct about what is legal, Mateer said. Schools can be overwhelmed, he said.

A Salem College student who is completing surgery to transition from a woman to a man is asking to stay on the campus of the all-female school.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported that college spokeswoman Michelle Melton declined to identify the student, who wants to remain on campus after having surgery in February.

The school is looking into whether to create a policy on transgender students. Trustees chairman Charles Blixt says the trustees have no timetable for a decision.

Several women’s colleges across the country have adopted policies concerning transgender students, said Harper Jane Tobin, the director of policy at the National Center for Transgender Equality in Washington, D.C. Some colleges, such as Salem, don’t have a policy, Tobin and Blixt said.

Several Catholic dioceses, Christian colleges and private businesses -- notably Hobby Lobby -- are suing the federal government to block the mandate, asserting it violates the First Amendment guarantee to free practice of religion.

“This distortion of our nation’s first freedom is the justification for the HHS mandate and the reason that 44 separate cases now have been brought against the federal government,” Maureen Ferguson, senior policy adviser for The Catholic Association said.

“The Constitution guarantees Americans the right to practice their faith 24 hours a day, seven days a week, whether at church, home, school or work.”

EU High Court Rules Gay Agenda Trumps Christianity

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that Christians must accommodate, celebrate, and even participate in the homosexual lifestyle. The court ruled that Gary MacFarlane, a Christian British marriage counselor, was rightfully fired for refusing to enhance a patient's deviant homosexual lifestyle, and Lilian Ladele, a Christian civil servant, was likewise rightfully fired for refusing to perform same-sex "wedding" ceremonies.

The court also "threw a bone" to Nadia Eweida, a British Airways employee, ruling that she shouldn't have been fired for wearing a tiny cross around her neck.

Religious freedom is “one of the foundations of pluralistic, democratic societies,” the European court wrote, but religious freedom can nonetheless be restricted where it “impinges on the rights of others.”

Although [the court] sided with Eweida, the court said a British hospital was justified in barring a nurse [Shirley Chaplin] from wearing a crucifix because it could touch an open wound or a patient might pull on it. Protecting health and safety were more weighty reasons to ban the cross than buffing a corporate image, it concluded.

Judges also rejected the claims of a relationship counselor and a former registrar who balked at providing their services to same-sex couples. The counselor was fired for violating company policies that he had agreed to; the registrar was disciplined and warned that if she did not perform civil partnerships, she would be terminated.

The three people whose cases were rejected are now planning to appeal to the Grand Chamber, the BBC reported. The chamber is a higher panel of five judges that would deliver a final judgment.

John O'Doherty of the Rainbow Project, Northern Ireland's largest gay and lesbian organisation, said: "Religious belief cannot be used as a smokescreen for discrimination, and all service providers must recognise that they may not pick and choose which members of the public are worthy of accessing services."

Employment lawyers accepted the clear reasoning of the judgment. Jennifer Skeoch, an employment lawyer at the law firm Taylor Wessin, said: "The judgments clarify this long-running issue: employees may have the right to manifest their religious beliefs in some ways providing this does not adversely infringe on the rights of others or jeopardise health and safety.

The Liberal Democrat MEP Sarah Ludford also welcomed the decision, saying . . . "The insistence by registrar Lilian Ladele and Relate counsellor Gary McFarlane that their Christian consciences made them refuse to perform certain duties was unacceptable because it could result in unacceptable discrimination against gay clients."

“Instead of practising the tolerance of the ‘dignity for all’ it preached, the Borough of Islington pursued the doctrinaire line, the road of obsessive political correctness,” said the dissenting ruling. “It effectively sought to force the applicant to act against her conscience of face the extreme penalty of dismissal – something which … cannot be deemed necessary in a democratic society.”

[Grégor Puppinck, Director of the European Center for Law and Justice, said] “The [court] majority obviously missed the fundamental difference between conscience and religion,” Puppinck told WND after the verdict was published. “Whereas the cases of Eweida and Chaplin are cases of ‘freedom of religion’ – freedom to wear religious items in public – the ones of Ladele and McFarlane are cases of ‘freedom of conscience,’ conscientious objection to homosexuality.”

“The state has the positive obligation not only to abstain from forcing someone to act against his moral conscience, but also to undertake positive measures to accommodate this person, as much as reasonably possible,” he continued.

“In the case of Ms. Ladele, the state not only forced her to celebrate same-sex unions, violating its negative obligation to respect individual conscience, but also made no effort to find a reasonable accommodation in order to respect her genuine conscientious objection, violating its positive obligation to respect individual conscience,” Puppinck said.

“It is not the same to force someone to abstain from wearing a religious item, and to force someone to act against his conscience, for example forcing someone to perform a homosexual union, or any other practice that can be genuinely considered as immoral such as abortion,” he concluded.

The internet entrepreneur says that the website is simply a means for people to meet -- what the consensual parties choose to exchange is their own affair.

The site, SeekingArrangement.com, said that the number of women joining the sight jumped 58 percent last year. . . . "the average college sugar baby receives approximately $3,000 per month to cover the cost of tuition, books and living expenses."

The site claims two million members. In 2011, college students comprised 40% of the members. But after the 58 percent jump last year, they now total 44 percent.

There’s the 18-year-old from France asking for $5,000 to $10,000 a month from “a mentor who can provide me with the finer things in life and keep me happy!” And the 49-year-old investor from upstate New York willing to pay $5,000 a month for a “daytime playmate” for “intense connection without commitment.” Critics say the site is at best a convenience store for adulterers and at worst a virtual brothel . . .

This abundance of possibility is part of what the site is selling, along with fantasy. Some of these men — especially those shopping for women half their age — are digging deep into their pockets to pay for an illusion: that despite their receding hairlines and wattled skin, they’re still enchanting enough to charm pretty young women. One image on the site features a dazed, graying man doted on by two barely clad attendants — a caricature of an already caricatured relationship. But this marketing spin doesn’t capture the nuances of the relationships that often develop between the “daddies” and the “babies” who meet on the site — relationships that can turn out to be more complicated than even the members themselves expect. Men may use money as a way to buy themselves out of the normal obligations of romance, like accommodating a woman’s emotional needs as much as their own. But despite the power and security that the money buys, it can also undercut the very ego it’s intended to boost.

The site also includes a complimentary stamp on student profiles, certifying them as a "college sugar baby."

Think Progress, a liberal blog affiliated with the Center for American Progress Action Fund, reported Wednesday afternoon on the sermon delivered by the Rev. Louie Giglio, an Atlanta minister and founder of the Passion Conferences, a group dedicated to uniting college students in worship and prayer.

In [his sermon], Mr. Giglio cites Scripture in saying that homosexuality “is sin in the eyes of God, and it is sin in the word of God.” He warned against gay rights. “That movement is not a benevolent movement,” he said. “It is a movement to seize by any means necessary the feeling and the mood of the day, to the point where the homosexual lifestyle becomes accepted as a norm in our society.”

In naming Atlanta evangelical Louie Giglio two days earlier to give the Jan. 21 benediction prayer, President Obama noted Giglio’s success at bringing tens of thousands of college students to events aimed at stopping human trafficking.

On Thursday morning, Giglio issued a withdrawal statement emphasizing that the sermon was more than 15 years old and that the topic of homosexuality “has not been in the range of my priorities” in recent years. But he did not disavow its contents. [However in the statement, Giglio said,] “I am constantly seeking to understand where all people are coming from and how to best serve them as I point them to Jesus. . . . In all things, the most helpful thing I can do is to invite each of us to wrestle with scripture and its implications for our lives. God’s words trump all opinions, including mine.”

Inaugural committee spokeswoman Addie Whisenant said in a statement that officials were unaware of the sermon when Giglio was picked and “they don’t reflect our desire to celebrate the strength and diversity of our country at this Inaugural. . . . As we now work to select someone to deliver the benediction, we will ensure their beliefs reflect this administration’s vision of inclusion and acceptance for all Americans.”

The quick departure of Giglio from one of the country’s most prominent prayer platforms shows how much has changed from four years ago, when Obama selected prominent evangelical Rick Warren to pray at his historic swearing-in. The best-selling author and megachurch leader had been outspoken against the march of legal gay marriage and controversy ensued. Neither Obama nor Warren pulled back, however.

The statement Giglio made [years ago] that was so controversial is essentially a near-direct quotation from the Christian Scriptures. Unrepentant homosexuals, Giglio said (as with unrepentant sinners of all kinds) “will not inherit the kingdom of God.” That’s 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. Giglio said, “it’s not easy to change, but it is possible to change.” The Bible says God “commands all people everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30), the same gospel, Giglio says, “that I say to you and that you would say to me.”

. . . by the standards of this controversy, no Muslim imam or Orthodox Jewish rabbi alive can pray at a presidential inauguration.

When it is now impossible for one who holds to the catholic Christian view of marriage and the gospel to pray at a public event, we now have a de facto established state church.  Just as the pre-constitutional Anglican and congregational churches required a license to preach in order to exclude Baptists, the new state church requires a “license” of embracing sexual liberation in all its forms.

As citizens, we ought to insist that the President stand up to his “base” and articulate a vision of a healthy pluralism in the public square.

Lone Atheist Ends Prayer in Boyle County Kentucky

After a single local resident said he was "offended" by public prayer, the Boyle County Fiscal Court voted unanimously to end the years-long tradition of opening meetings with prayer, fearing a lawsuit from one man with no known backing, even though every magistrate and attendee at the meeting preferred to continue the prayers.

McKinney reminded people several times to keep the discussion as “civil” as possible. He also publicly discussed his Christian faith for what he said was the first time during a public government meeting. McKinney said prayer is about communing with the God of someone’s understanding and that it is traditionally a personal practice.

Magistrate Dickie Mayes believes 90 percent of his constituents would approve of public prayer during government meetings, about 7 percent “would not care,” and about 3 percent of the area’s residents would be in opposition. Ultimately, Mayes made a motion that Fiscal Court have a moment of silence listed on the agenda and spend that moment in silence during the meetings. The other five magistrates seconded the motion and it passed 6-0.

School Sides with Atheists vs. Christian Teacher

The Freedom From Religion Foundation of Madison, WI threatened to sue the Cheektowaga (New York) Central School District if the classroom of science teacher Joelle Silver continued to have a few scripture messages on the wall.  The school promptly complied with the atheist demands by threatening to fire the teacher. Silver removed the Christian messages, and has now sued the school for censoring her right of free speech in U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York.

On the teacher's wall was a poster of an American flag and school books, with this scripture: “Be on guard. Stand true to what you believe. Be courageous. Be strong. And everything you do must be done in love.” Also, posted were quotes by President Reagan: “without God democracy will not and cannot endure” and “If ever we forget that we are One nation Under God, then we will be a Nation gone under.”

Attorney Robert J. Muise maintained that constitutional violations occurred when district officials forced Silver to remove the religious materials. “They essentially want her to cease being a Christian once she enters school district property,” said Muise.

Superintendent Dennis Kane said the district was caught in the middle of a dispute between “two big special-interest groups” and was likely to be sued regardless of what it did or didn’t do.

After consulting with a district lawyer and an attorney for the district’s insurance carrier, district officials issued an eight-page “counseling letter” to Silver, said Kane, who is named personally in the suit along with School Board President Brian J. Gould.

The case dates back to last June, when a student alerted the Freedom From Religion Foundation to a poster with a biblical verse in Silver’s class and a drawing of three crosses on a wall near her desk.

It had been decorated by students and allowed others to place their prayer requests inside so that the club members could pray. According to Silver’s legal representation, the district “pressured Silver into resigning as faculty adviser for the student Bible Study Club, which was formed pursuant to the Equal Access Act.”

“Consequently, if you choose to continue monitoring the Bible Study Club next school year, you must carefully re-examine [district policies], so that you can better protect that club from being disciplined and possibly banned,” the letter admonished. “Under no circumstances should you participate in the club’s meetings or activities. Likewise, under no circumstances should you permit any club activities that could be interpreted as being promoted or sponsored by yourself, or the larger district for which you work.”

“If you need to be able to occasionally glance at inspirational Bible verses between classes during the course of the day, I suggest that you keep such material in a discreet folder that only you will have access to,” the letter stated. “You may keep such a folder in a drawer of your desk, so long as you take precautions not to share it or disclose its content to your students or their parents or guardians.”

Muise filed the lawsuit in federal court. He said his client received a letter saying that if she failed to comply with the school district’s religious cleansing she would face “serious disciplinary consequences, including the termination of her employment.

The AFLC found it ironic that the district allows teachers to promote non-Christian displays in their classrooms – including one teacher who promotes gay rights.

“We would interpret a spouses club’s decision to exclude a same-sex spouse as sexual discrimination because the exclusion was based upon the spouse’s sex,” the memo said.

A Marine Corps spokesman, Capt. Eric Flanagan, said the Marines cannot directly control the actions of independent organizations such as spouses’ clubs, but added, “We expect that all who are interested in supporting Marine Corps Family Readiness would be welcome to participate and will be treated with dignity and respect.”

The club has said it would reconsider its membership policies at an upcoming meeting.

Ashley Broadway married her partner of 15 years, Lt Colonel Heather Mack, in November after the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy banning openly gay service members from the military.

Broadway said that in response to her application to become a member of the Association of Bragg Officers' Spouses, she was told that she cannot be admitted into the club because she lacks a military spouse ID card.

Stars and Stripes reported that because of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, the Defense Department does not recognize same-sex marriages and does not offer benefits or ID cards to same-sex spouses.

The conservative analysts say that service members who engaged in homosexuality while in the military don’t deserve extra pay, because they did more than run afoul of Defense Department administrative regulations -- they violated a federal law that made homosexuality in the military illegal.

[The Marist poll found] Of the 83 percent who support significant restrictions on abortion, 10 percent believe abortion should never be permitted; 12 percent believe abortion should be allowed only to save the life of the mother; 34 percent would restrict abortion only to cases of rape or incest, or to save the life of the mother; and 27 percent would limit abortion to – at most – the first three months of pregnancy.

Just 11 percent would allow abortion at any time, while 6 percent would allow it during the first six months of pregnancy.

“After four decades of legalized abortion in this country, Americans have had ample time to understand that abortion has terrible consequences, said Knights of Columbus Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “They understand abortion’s true legacy – a child loses life, and parents lose a child. And after witnessing the effects of abortion for the past 40 years, Americans are not legally or morally comfortable with that legacy. It is time for our country to chart a new course on this issue – a course that protects both the mother and the child.”

In January 1973, the Supreme Court made access to abortion a federally protected right. As I write in this week’s TIME cover story, that seemingly decisive victory 40 years ago kicked off a war that the pro-choice movement has been losing ever since. In many parts of the country today, obtaining an abortion is more difficult than at any point since the 1970s.

There are fewer doctors willing to perform the procedure and fewer abortion clinics open for business. Pro-choice activists have been outflanked by their prolife counterparts, who have successfully lobbied for state-based regulations that limit access. Scores of states now require women to undergo counseling, waiting periods or ultrasounds prior to obtaining abortions. Minors across the country must often get permission from their parents if they want to terminate pregnancies. And pro-life state legislators are passing laws that require clinics to comply with arcane requirements—such as a hallway having to be more than five feet wide— that make it difficult for them to stay open.

The pro-life cause has been winning the abortion war, in part, because it has pursued an organized and well-executed strategy. But public opinion is also increasingly on their side. Thanks to prenatal ultrasound and advanced neonatology, Americans now understand what a fetus looks like and that babies born as early as 24 weeks can now survive. Although three-quarters of Americans believe abortion should be legal in some or all cases, most support state laws regulating the procedure and fewer and fewer are identifying themselves as “pro-choice” in public opinion surveys.

From its early beginnings, feminism was a young women’s movement. Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Alice Paul, Charlotte Lozier and so many others began their suffragist work in their 20s. These women — the original feminists — understood that the rights of women cannot be built on the broken backs of unborn children. Anthony called abortion “child murder.” Paul, author of the original 1923 Equal Rights Amendment, said that “abortion is the ultimate exploitation of women.”

So the pro-life movement hasn’t changed the meaning of feminism, as has been suggested. It was the neo-feminists of the 1960s and ’70s who asked women to prize abortion as the pathway to equality.

Pro-life feminism has captivated a new generation of young women who reject the illusion that to be pro-woman is to be pro-choice. . . .

Not only does this young generation of pro-life women shun the notion that abortion somehow liberates women; it views abortion as the civil- and human-rights cause of our day. Abortion is an injustice that permeates our society. Forty years after Roe v. Wade, we realize that a third of our peers are not here to share our progress and our hopes. It is our loss as well as theirs.

Chairmaine Yoest, president and CEO of Americans United for Life, echoed Buchanan’s explanation.

“The cognitive dissonance of having a hospital saving a life of a 24-week-old baby next door to a room where a 23-week-old baby is aborted is very real,” Yoest explained.

“The pro-life movement is on the side of science. We are the ones standing with the scientific advances showing not only the reality of life in the womb, but also being able to push back the day of viability,” Yoest added.

From "Pregnancy Centers Gain Influence in Anti-Abortion Arena" by Pam Belluck, New York Times 1/4/13

With free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, along with diapers, parenting classes and even temporary housing, pregnancy centers are playing an increasingly influential role in the anti-abortion movement. While most attention has focused on scores of new state laws restricting abortion, the centers have been growing in numbers and gaining state financing and support.

Pregnancy centers, while not new, now number about 2,500, compared with about 1,800 abortion providers.  [Americans United for Life VP, Jeanneane] Maxon estimated that the centers see about a million clients annually, with another million attending abstinence and other programs. . . .

“Women who come in are constantly telling us, ‘Abortion seems to be my only alternative and I think that’s the best thing to do,’” said Peggy Hartshorn, president of Heartbeat International, which she described as a “Christ-centered” organization with 1,100 affiliates. “Centers provide women with the whole choice.”

Thirteen states now provide some direct financing; 27 offer “Choose Life” license plates, the proceeds from which aid centers. In 2011, Texas increased financing for the centers while cutting family planning [abortion clinic] money by two-thirds, and required abortion clinics to provide names of centers at least 24 hours before performing abortions. In South Dakota, a 2011 law being challenged by Planned Parenthood requires pregnancy center visits before abortions.
