Too Many Minority Babies, Feds Say of Teen Births

Although the rate of abortion among minorities is disproportionately high compared to white Americans, in a new report, President Obama's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is lamenting that too many black and Hispanic babies are surviving teenage pregnancies.
“Despite this historic progress, profound disparities remain.”

The Hispanic teen birth rate fell by half over about eight years, and the black teen birth rate dropped nearly that much. But even with those declines, the white teen birth rate is still only half as high, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday.

. . . in the new report, the CDC focused on 2006 through 2014 — the most recent phase of the decline, when the fall was steepest.

The recent drops in the black and Hispanic teen birth rates look more dramatic in part because they started at far higher rate, Albert said. The Hispanic rate fell 51 percent — from 77 to 38 births per 1,000 Hispanic girls ages 15 to 19. The black rate fell 44 percent — from 62 to 35 per 1,000.

The white rate fell 35 percent, from 27 to 17 per 1,000.

The birth rate among teenagers in the United States has fallen to a historic low, with births by black and Hispanic teens down by nearly half over the past decade, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Thursday.

But officials said the U.S. teen birth rate was still too high, especially for minorities, and more work was needed.

"While reasons for the declines are not clear, teens seem to be less sexually active, and more of those who are sexually active seem to be using birth control than in previous years," the CDC said.

"The United States has made remarkable progress in reducing both teen pregnancy and racial and ethnic differences, but the reality is, too many American teens are still having babies," CDC Director Tom Frieden said in a statement.

The first [speculated cause for the drop in teen birthrate] is the most important and may be obvious: Today's teens enjoy better access to contraception and more convenient contraception than their predecessors, and more of them are taking advantage of innovations like long-acting injectable and implantable methods [LARC] that can last years over a daily birth control pill. But the second cause is something that goes against the conventional wisdom. It's that teens -- despite their portrayal in popular TV and movies as uninhibited and acting only on hormones -- are having less sex.

Veronica Gomez-Lobo, director of pediatric gynecology at Children’s National Medical Center, said the trend of abstinence has been mostly among younger teens rather than older ones. While there's not good data on why this is happening, she thinks of it as a “contagion” factor. So many teens are waiting to have sex, she suggests, that the peer pressure goes the opposite way than it might have in the past.

“We think this is a very healthy trend,” Gomez-Lobo said.

Gay Agenda Increases Suicides of Young Men: Study

Although suicide rates have always been higher among those who exhibit homosexual behavior, a new study shows that, contrary to PC propaganda, as social and public acceptance of every variant of sexually deviant behavior grows, so does the rate of suicide among young men, especially young black men.

In the study, the researchers examined survey responses from nearly 5,800 gay and bisexual men from the United Kingdom 16 and older. The results: those younger than 26 were two times more likely to be depressed or anxious, and six times more likely to attempt suicide or harm themselves than those older than 45.

Blacks were two times more likely to be depressed and five times more likely to have attempted suicide than whites, according to the study published April 26 in the Journal of Public Health.

The researchers found that those with lower incomes were more likely to be depressed, anxious, and to attempt suicide or harm themselves than those with higher incomes. Those with lower levels of education were two times more likely to be depressed, anxious, and to attempt suicide or harm themselves than those with a university degree.

The study also found that gay and bisexual men living with a male partner were 50 percent less likely to have depression than those living alone.

While it has long been established that LGBT communities suffer from considerably more mental health issues than other social groups, limited research has been conducted into how age affects their experiences. Indeed, it has previously been assumed that mental health issues may decrease among younger gay and bisexual men as they experience less stigma than older men due to changes in cultural attitudes and lesser discrimination.

Research has suggested that LGBT people are considerably more likely to have a mental health problem than cisgender or heterosexual people. Among the general population varying figures suggest that suicide attempt rates are around 4 per cent, increasing to 20 per cent for LGB people and over 40 per cent for transgender people. . . .

Conducted by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and funded by Stonewall [an LGBT advocacy organization] . . . The study is the first to examine the mental health differences within gay and bisexual men in the UK.

April Guasp, Head of Research at Stonewall, said: "We're really pleased to see this further in-depth analysis of mental health issues faced by gay and bisexual men. It's known that a range of factors can increase risk of poor mental health among the population in general and the same holds true for gay and bisexual men. This study contributes to better understanding of the specific risks within LGBT communities and will hopefully lead to more targeted health interventions."

The authors note that their findings may be limited because survey participants were not a random sample of the population and were therefore unlikely to be representative of all UK gay and bisexual men.

Government Predicts Black Men Will Get Gay Disease

In a first-of-its-kind analysis, President Obama's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported this week that African-American males who engage in anal sex have a 50-50 chance of contracting HIV during their lifetime.  The risk for Latino men is 25%.
“It’s really important to say that these [projections] are not inevitable.  This is a call to do things differently.”

The report, released at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Boston, is the first to take a look at any given person's lifetime risk of becoming infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes AIDS.

"At current rates, 1 in 2 African American men who have sex with men (MSM) and 1 in 4 Hispanic MSM will be diagnosed with HIV in their lifetime, compared with 1 in 11 white MSM," CDC said.

The CDC has been warning for years that people most at risk of HIV are not getting tested for it nearly often enough. . . .

The findings present a stark reminder of the threat still posed by the AIDS virus 35 years after the illness was first detected, despite progress in treatment and prevention.

“It was really a clarion call,” said Dawn Fukuda, director of the HIV/AIDS division at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, who heard the report presented at the international Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Boston. “These are numbers that are pretty astounding.”

The report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is the first to project the lifetime risk of HIV infection state-by-state and among certain groups of people. Based on death data from 2009 through 2013, the CDC concluded that gay and bisexual men, African-Americans, and people who live in the South have the highest risk of infection.

God Called Me to Kill Black Babies: Abortionist

Willie Parker, an experienced African-American board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, said that a sermon by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. convinced him that the parable of the good Samaritan was God calling him to murder unborn black babies because too many of their mothers are poor.
“Abortion is health care, and I make no apologies that it’s how I make my living.  It is moral and right to provide women with the services they need to live the lives they want to live. . . . I saw a patient in Mississippi . . . [who] knew that she could not care for another child, financially or emotionally. . . . It is the deepest level of love that you can have for another person, that you can have compassion for their suffering and you can act to relieve it.”

-- From "New flare-ups over the racial demographics of abortion" by The Associated Press 1/24/16

The statistics themselves are not in dispute. While blacks comprise 13 percent of the population, black women account for more than 30 percent of the estimated 1 million abortions performed annually in the U.S.

In Congress, Rep. Sean Duffy, a white Republican from rural Wisconsin, lambasted black members of Congress for failing to decry these high abortion numbers. The next day, Rep. Gwen Moore, a black Democrat from Milwaukee, fired back — accusing Duffy and his GOP colleagues of caring about black children only before they are born.

“Black lives matter ... and Indian and Asian, Hispanic and white,” Duffy continued. “All those lives matter. We should fight for all life, including the life of the unborn.”

In Missouri, a white GOP state legislator, Rep. Mike Moon, introduced a “personhood” bill that would effectively outlaw all abortions, and titled it the All Lives Matter Act. Abortion-rights activists were indignant, saying Moon was provocatively co-opting the Black Lives Matter slogan that has been used to convey concern about the deaths of unarmed blacks in encounters with police.

From "Why I Provide Abortions" by Willie J. Parker, New York Times 11/18/15

My decision to provide abortions represented a change of heart on my part. I had been working for 12 years as an obstetrician and gynecologist, and had never performed abortions because I felt they were morally wrong. But I grew increasingly uncomfortable turning away women who needed help.

Ultimately, reading a sermon by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. challenged me to a deeper spiritual understanding. I was moved by his discussion of the quality of the good Samaritan and of what made the Samaritan “good.” The Samaritan reversed the question of concern, to care more about the well-being of the person needing help than about what might happen to him for stopping to give help. I realized that if I were to show compassion, I would have to act on behalf of those women. My concern about women who lacked access to abortion became more important to me than worrying about what might happen to me for providing the services.

I stopped doing obstetrics in 2009 to provide abortion full time for women who needed help. Invariably I field questions regarding my decision, with the most often asked being: Why? The short answer is: Because I can. And: Because if I don’t, who will?

Young abortion doctor-in-training Carolyn Payne also recently wrote a column, claiming that her Christian faith motivated her to pursue a career as an abortionist. And in November, pro-lifers in Chicago filmed an unnamed abortionist as she knelt and prayed on the sidewalk, thanking God that she can abort unborn babies.

The latest faith-based justification comes from Des Moines, Iowa abortion doctor Jill Meadows, who said it is her “God-given calling” to abort unborn babies at Planned Parenthood.

Meadows, the medical director for Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, used the phrase in a letter to the editor of the Des Moines Register last week, defending her abortion business in the wake of a series of undercover videos showing top Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted babies’ body parts.

Fewer Abortions, but Most are Blacks & Hispanics

In a new report, President Obama's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention compiled statistics showing that the number of unborn babies killed in the U.S. continues to decline each year.  The report also shows that well over half of all abortions where race was recorded were on black or Hispanic women, but in New York City, these minorities accounted for over three-quarters of the dead babies.

The number of abortions performed in the United States hit an historic low in 2012, continuing a 25-year-long gradual decline, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control.

About 699,000 abortions were reported to the CDC in 2012 - a 4 percent drop from the year before, or about 31,000 fewer abortions, the CDC said.

"From 2003 to 2012, the total number, rate and ratio of reported abortions decreased 17 percent, 18 percent and 14 percent, respectively, and reached their lowest level in 2012 for the entire period of analysis," the CDC said in its report.

From "Report: US abortions continue to decline, down 4 pct in 2012" by Mike Stobbe, Associated Press 11/25/15

In 2012, the abortion rate fell 5 percent to 13 abortions per 1,000 women of child-bearing age. That is about half what it was in 1974, the year after the landmark Supreme Court decision that established a nationwide right to abortion.

The CDC data is not a complete national picture. It's based on reports from health departments in 47 states, Washington and New York City. California, Maryland and New Hampshire don't report abortion numbers.

Earlier this year, The Associated Press surveyed health departments in 45 states, gathering more recent data, mostly from 2013 and 2014. The AP found that abortions continued to fall in those years. Declines were seen in states that have passed anti-abortion laws as well as in more liberal states.

From "CDC Report: 55.4% of Aborted Babies Black or Hispanic" by Michael W. Chapman, CNSNews.com 11/30/15

Among these abortions categorized by race and ethnicity – see Table 12 in the surveillance report – the CDC says there were 148,971 black babies killed by abortion in 2012 (36.7% of the 405,795) and 75,868 Hispanic babies (18.7%).

For whites, there were 152,673 abortions, or 37.6% of the total. In another category labeled “other” there were 28,283 abortions, or 7% of the total. The “other” category includes Asians and Native Americans, as well as ethnicity reported as “unknown.”

The Census Bureau says that blacks make up 13.2% of the U.S. population and Hispanics comprise 17.4% of the population. Combined, blacks and Hispanics make up 30.6% of the population, yet 55.4% of the abortion reported by race were of black and Hispanic babies.

From "CDC Report: 76.4% of Aborted Babies in NYC Are Black or Hispanic" by Michael W. Chapman, CNSNews.com 11/30/15

The CDC also got numbers from New York City broken down by race: white, black, Hispanic, and other.

In total, there were 70,997 abortions in New York City in 2012. Among those abortions, 31,328 were black babies (44.1%); 22,917 were Hispanic babies (32.3%).

Also, there were 9,704 white babies aborted (13.7%), and 7,048 “Other” babies aborted (9.9%) in New York City in 2012 – the "Other" children were Asian, Native American, or of “unknown” ethnicity.

Blacks make up 25.5% of the population in New York City, according to the Census Bureau, and Hispanics comprise 28.6% of the population. Yet Hispanics and blacks equal 76.4% of the abortions in New York City.

New Gay Health Risk: Meningococcal Disease

-- From "STD rates increasing in US" by The Associated Press 11/17/15

Reported cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis all increased in 2014. Chlamydia cases had dipped in 2013, but last year's total of more than 1.4 million — or 456 cases per 100,000 — was the highest number of annual cases of any condition ever reported to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The chlamydia rate was up almost 3 percent from 2013, the CDC reported Tuesday.

Gonorrhea cases totaled 350,062, up 5 percent from 2013, and the most contagious forms of syphilis jumped 15 percent to 20,000. As in previous years, the syphilis increase was mainly in gay and bisexual men.

Most gonorrhea and chlamydia infections were in 15- to 24-year-olds, an ongoing trend. Both can cause infertility in women but can be treated with antibiotics. They often have no symptoms, and while yearly screening is recommended for sexually active women younger than 25, many don't get tested and infections go untreated, the CDC said.

From "CDC: 'Alarming' increase in STDs" by Mary Bowerman, USA TODAY Network 11/18/15

“While rates have increased among both men and women, men account for more than 90 percent of all primary and secondary syphilis cases,” according to the [CDC] report.

Gay and bisexual men are most at risk for syphilis infections, according to the report. Men who reported that they had sex with other men accounted for 83% of male cases where the partner’s sex was reported.

From "Rates Of Syphillis, Chlamydia And Gonorrhea Rising For First Time Since 2006, Particularly Among Young People" by Ed Cara, Medical Daily 11/17/15

Syphilis, however, remains primarily a problem among men who have sex with men (MSM), encompassing 83 percent of reported cases (when the sex of the partner is known). Fifty percent of MSM syphilis cases were also HIV-positive, highlighting a known but nonetheless frightening connection between the two STDs. It’s believed the sores commonly seen in syphilis make it easier for the HIV virus to be transmitted between partners.

“A number of individual risk behaviors (such as higher numbers of lifetime sex partners), as well as environmental, social and cultural factors (such as higher prevalence of STDs or difficulty accessing quality health care) contribute to disparities in the sexual health of gay and bisexual men,” explained the CDC’s summary of their report. . . .

It wasn’t solely age, gender, and sexual orientation that predicted greater STD rates, but race as well. In particular, STD rates were highest in blacks across the board, though few minority groups fared better than whites, save Asians.

From "Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia Rates Rising: CDC" by Steven Reinberg, HealthDay Reporter (posted at WebMD) 11/17/15

"In the previous years, we have had some declines in some diseases and increases in others. But, we are concerned about the alarming increases we are seeing in chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis," said lead researcher Dr. Gail Bolan, director of the CDC's Division of STD Prevention.

"We are concerned that most of the surging rates are among men," Bolan said. "Men are driving these increases. There is an urgent need to tackle the increases we are seeing."

There is also evidence that gay and bisexual men are seeing similar increases in gonorrhea and chlamydia, she said.

Despite that, young people are still the most disproportionately affected by STDs, Bolan added. Last year, those between the ages of 15 and 24 accounted for nearly two-thirds of the reported cases of chlamydia and gonorrhea. That compares to previous estimates that young people get half of the estimated 20 million new STDs diagnosed each year in the United States, she pointed out.

From "New STD? What You Should Know About Mycoplasma Genitalium" by Rachael Rettner, Senior Writer, LiveScience 11/17/15

The study found that the bacterium Mycoplasma genitalium, which is thought to be sexually transmitted, infects more than 1 percent of people ages 16 to 44 in the United Kingdom. That comes out to about 250,000 people, according to U.K. census data. Studies in the United States have found that a similar percentage of people here are infected with M. genitalium.

That makes M. genitalium a more common sexually transmitted disease (STD) than gonorrhea, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The new study adds to the evidence that M. genitalium is an STD, because it found that the infection was more common in people who had at least four new sexual partners in the past year than in people who had one or fewer new partners in the past year. In addition, people were more likely to have M. genitalium if they had unprotected sex, and no infections were found in people who had never had sex, according to the study, which was published Nov. 3 in the International Journal of Epidemiology.

The new study in the International Journal of Epidemiology found that about 94 percent of men and 56 percent of women infected with M. genitalium did not have symptoms.

GOP Gov. Decrees 'Gay Rights' for Contractors

Yet to complete his first year in office, Massachusetts Republican Gov. Charlie Baker has issued an executive order for affirmative action for LGBT-owned businesses, thus mandating that the state's Supplier Diversity Program (SDP) target a portion of its billion-dollar spending to one of the wealthiest minorities (the sexually deviant), and therefore de-emphasizing preferences for disadvantaged minority groups of common parlance (blacks, hispanics, women, etc.).

Baker on Tuesday announced changes to a state program to ensure that companies bidding on contracts come from a wide range of backgrounds.

Baker said his administration is committed to ensuring diversity as the state works with business suppliers and contractors to extend economic prosperity to more communities throughout Massachusetts.

Baker said the changes include what he described as a first-in-the-nation LGBT-owned business certification partnership between the state and the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce’s certification process which he said is recognized by many Fortune 1000 companies.

From "Baker administration expands affirmative action for state contracting" by Eric Convey, Senior staff reporter, Boston Business Journal 11/3/15

The changes are part of the state's Supplier Diversity Program, which uses internal rules for agencies, and contracting power with vendors, to send work to companies whose owners have certain demographic certifications. Those certifications come in some cases from government entities and in other cases from private organizations. . . .

In dealings with vendors, the preferences are reflected during the bidding process. Generally, the state won't sign contracts with companies that haven't certified that they're either owned by members of specific groups or themselves do business with companies owned by members of certain groups. Companies that fail to make good on those commitments can be excluded from future deals with the state.

While factoring demographics into contracting decisions is longstanding practice for Massachusetts, the state may be the first in the country to single out LGBT-owned businesses for preferential treatment.

From "Massachusetts Takes Lead on Next Frontier of LGBT Rights" by Claire Zillman, Fortune 11/3/15

The state introduced the diversity initiative in 2010 as a way to provide minority- and women-owned businesses with equal access to state contract bidding processes for construction, design, goods, and services. In 2013, businesses owned by service-disabled veterans were added to the mix.

The new policy is the result of a year of talks between the governor’s office and the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, which will certify businesses as LGBT-owned for the state, according to Jonathan Lovitz, the NGLCC’s vice president of external affairs. (Such a classification requires that 51% or more of a company is owned by lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender individuals.)

The executive order recognizing LGBT-owned businesses is the only statewide initiative of its kind, but the NGLCC has made inroads at the local level. . . .

From "Gov. Charlie Baker to help women, minority, veteran, LGBT-owned businesses get state contracts" by Shira Schoenberg, The Republican (Springfield, Mass.) 11/3/15

Under former Gov. Deval Patrick [Democrat], Massachusetts established a "supplier diversity program." The program provided technical assistance to businesses owned by women, minorities and disabled veterans. It required any contractor bidding on a state project that cost more than $150,000 to commit to spending a percentage of the money on diverse subcontractors or suppliers. This gave women and minority-owned businesses a competitive edge in getting work from state contracts. In fiscal year 2014, businesses certified under the supplier diversity program received $991 million in state contracts, out of approximately $4 billion in total state spending on goods and services.

Baker also announced plans to create new categories that will benefit from the supplier diversity program – businesses owned by gays and lesbians and businesses owned by people with disabilities. The state will first determine how many businesses fit those categories before setting goals for how much money must be spent with them.

The changes will apply to state contracts for goods and services. Baker plans to announce additional changes for construction contracts in the future.

“We should be a leader, not a laggard when it comes to creating opportunities for diverse businesses to support and service the people of the Commonwealth,” Baker said, with a notably diverse crowd of people — gay and straight; black, brown, and white; women and men — standing behind him on the Grand Staircase of the State House.

The program — which helps certain groups gain preferential access to state spending — and its expansion may seem at odds with traditional Republican orthodoxy. But speaking to reporters, Baker insisted that it does not give anyone a leg up, but rather just levels the playing field for all.

Groups of people considered disadvantaged include African Americans, Cape Verdeans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, American Indians, Eskimos, and Aleuts.

[Gov. Baker's] executive order was criticized by Brian Camenker, executive director of MassResistance, a Massachusetts-based pro-family activist organization.

“Republican Gov. Charlie Baker's order including homosexual owned businesses in Massachusetts's Supplier Diversity Program is just one more example of our government being used to promote a narrow ideological agenda at the expense of the taxpayers,” Camenker said in response to a question from CNSNews.com asking him for MassResistance’s official position regarding the governor’s executive order.

“Even his far-left predecessor, Deval Patrick, did not go this far,” he added.

“When Baker told the Boston Globe that he was ‘to the left of Barack Obama on social issues’ a lot of people didn’t take him seriously. They certainly do now.”

"We are paying for, even submitting to, the dictates of an ever increasing, unceasingly spawning class of human beings who never should have been born at all. . . . We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the [colored] minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."
-- Margaret Sanger (writing to birth control advocate Dr. Clarence Gamble in 1939)

"The last thing we need is a white supremacist sitting between the bust of Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. That is a slap in the face of black folks and I hope the curator can understand that."
-- Rev. Johnny Hunter, chairman of the Frederick Douglass Foundation

-- From "Conservatives Want Bust of Planned Parenthood Founder Removed From National Portrait Gallery" by Daniel White, Time Magazine 8/27/15

Conservative groups are calling on the National Portrait Gallery to remove of a bust of Margaret Sanger from the Washington, D.C. museum, the Associated Press reports. Sanger, who died in 1966, founded two groups that eventually became Planned Parenthood.

. . . a group of ministers lead by former Republican politician E.W. Jackson and the conservative non-profit ForAmerica say their opposition to the bust is based on Sanger’s support of eugenics, a social movement that sought to remove undesirable traits from the gene pool through sterilization and selective breeding.

. . . Presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas have written a letter to lawmakers that calls the sculpture’s display by the museum “an affront both to basic human decency and the very meaning of justice.”

In a statement to TIME, Planned Parenthood acknowledged Sanger’s flaws, but dismissed the attacks as motivated by anti-abortion sentiment.

[Birth control advocate Margaret] Sanger, who died in 1966, also supported eugenics, a now-condemned effort to discourage reproduction by criminals and others with undesirable traits. Brent Bozell, chairman of the conservative group ForAmerica, and a group of black pastors say Sanger favored using eugenics to limit the population of blacks, a claim that some Republican lawmakers have echoed but for which the evidence is contested.

"She will not be removed," museum spokeswoman Bethany Bentley said Wednesday. She said the gallery displays "significant people who represent the full spectrum of the American experience," including some with "less than admirable characteristics."

A Planned Parenthood spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But the group's website describes Sanger as "one of the movement's great heroes." It says women's progress in education, jobs and politics "can be directly linked to Sanger's crusade and women's ability to control their own fertility."

From "Black Pastors Protest Smithsonian Bust of Planned Parenthood's Nazi-Like Founder Margaret Sanger in Civil Rights Exhibit" by Samuel Smith, Christian Post Reporter 8/27/15

Prominent black pastors and pro-life activists gathered in front of the National Portrait Gallery on Thursday to demand that the taxpayer-funded museum remove a bust of Planned Parenthood's white supremacist founder, Margaret Sanger, from the institution's "Struggle for Justice" exhibit.

Nearly 20 African-American pastors and pro-life advocates spoke at the rally and explained that Sanger, who established abortion organizations that eventually became the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, did not advocate for abortion and birth control because she wanted to help "disadvantaged women," but because it was her goal to use eugenics to eliminate what she considered people of "inferior races."

In response to the letter sent by the coalition Ministers Taking a Stand earlier this month, National Portrait Gallery Director Kim Sajet replied with a letter stating that the gallery will keep the bust because Sanger brought "medical advice and affordable birth control to disadvantaged women."

“The woman was a racist. She was a genocidal figure in America and in human history, and to honor her is to be complicit in her evil and her racism,” [Bishop E.W.] Jackson said. “That’s right. If you are honoring Margaret Sanger, you are joining together with her in her racist ideology.”

Rev. Johnny Hunter of the Global Life and Family Mission in North Carolina, said it was a “slap in the face to black folks” to have Sanger as part of the “Struggle for Justice” exhibit.

“Her association with the eugenics movement shadowed her achievements in sex education and contraception, making her a figure of controversy, one whose complexities and contradictions mirror her times,” Director Kim Sajet told the pastors in an Aug. 19 letter.

“There is no ‘moral test’ for people to be accepted into the National Portrait Gallery,” said Sajet.

From "#BlackLivesMatter: Pastors Take on Controversial Legacy of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, Black Genocide in Scathing Letter" posted by Manny Otiko at Atlanta Black Star 8/10/15

Sanger worked to bring birth control to Black families in the south, but recognized her ideas would be met with suspicion. According to Factcheck.org, an organization that verifies media statements made by elected officials, Sanger wrote about the importance of gaining support from a black clergyman.

Considering its origins, the Black community has long viewed the birth control movement with suspicion. Many Black people felt that early experiments with birth control pills used Black communities as test subjects. And up until recently, some states still practiced elements of eugenics with mentally challenged people and other undesirables being forcibly sterilized. An Atlanta Blackstar story reported several cases of Black female inmates in California being sterilized without their consent.

Today, anti-abortion activists say the high rate of abortion in the Black community carries elements of eugenics. According to figures from the Center for Disease Control, while Black people make up about 14 percent of the population, 40 percent of abortions are carried out by Black women.

Illegal Abortion Clinic in Selma—Black Lives Matter

On Saturday, racial diversity led the march across the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge bridge in Selma, Alabama as pro-lifers from across America protested Dr. Samuel Lett who continues to perform unlicensed abortions in Selma.

-- From "Activists claim unlicensed abortion clinic operates in Selma, plan protest" by The Associated Press 6/17/15

Organizers [of The Selma Project] said they have evidence that the [Central Alabama Women's Clinic] performs more than nine abortions monthly, which would require it to come under strict state regulations as an abortion clinic.

Individuals working with abortion opponents repeatedly called the office without identifying themselves and scheduled appointments for abortion procedures, activists said. Audio clips of some phone calls were previously made public by abortion opponents.

While doctor's offices are required to report the number of abortions they perform to the state, those reports are not public.

Dr. Samuel C. Lett, who operates the clinic, did not return a phone message seeking comment.

Brian Hale, who serves as general counsel for the ADPH, responded to an email request for comment Saturday afternoon.

“ADPH did receive and investigate a complaint alleging that this clinic was performing a number of abortions that would require it to be licensed by this agency as an abortion or reproductive health center,” Hale’s statement said. “State Board of Health regulations require a license when a facility performs 10 or more abortions in any month, or 100 or more in any calendar year. ADPH was unable to establish that this clinic performed a number of abortions that would require it to be licensed as an abortion or reproductive health center. State law — § 22-9A-13, Ala. Code 1975 — prohibits ADPH from disclosing information relating to the number of abortions performed by a physician.”

Alveda King, the niece of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was among those who marched across the bridge in protest Saturday. She said some have accused the protesters of using Selma for national attention after Oprah Winfrey’s movie “Selma” and President Barack Obama visited the city earlier this year. King said that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Anti-abortion activists are focusing their attention on Selma and a clinic they say is violating state laws. A coalition of pro-life ministries from all over the country made their way to the historic city Friday night, gathering at Christ the King Episcopal Church.

“We know that women have been injured in this clinic. We know for sure [Dr. Samuel Lett] scheduled more abortions than he's allowed to do, according to state law,” said Father Terry Gensemer, Director of CEC For Life and an urban pastor in Alabama for more than 20 years.

“We're here to say to the health department and to the nation that women, particularly black women, are targeted in this area, in Selma and that babies are being killed here. We want the city of Selma to know what's going on, we want the state of Alabama to know that its citizens are not being protected the Alabama Department of Public Health, and we want justice to be done for the victims of this doctor,” Fr. Gensemer added.

A leader with the National Black Pro-Life Coalition, Catherine Davis, said the following about Lett’s abortion facility: “He has preyed, likely for years, mainly on poor, black women who feel they have no options. While the state stands back and allows Lett to do as he pleases, the black women of Selma are left to carry the injuries and sorrow that so frequently accompany abortion. They have absolutely no protection from the state.”

[President of Americans United for Life, Charmaine Yoest said], “Abortion harms women, and African-American women suffer more than others because of the tragic number of abortions in their community. Black women account for 37% of abortions and are 5 times more likely than white women to have an abortion. We stand here in Selma to note once again that when laws that protect health and safety are not enforced, African Americans bear too heavy a burden. Life-saving health and safety standards must be enforced to protect women from the negligence of abortionists.”

Kelly: When did you first decide to run for president?

Rachel: A few months ago, members asked me to consider running. . . . My candidacy was really a response to requests for me to run for the position of president. My candidacy was not originally my idea, but a request from officers and members in the branch frustrated with current leadership.

Kelly: Rachel . . . Can you please tell us all about your life and all that you do so people understand your level of commitment and passion?

. . . Historically in Spokane, I’m in a very small minority of women presidents of the NAACP. I believe I’m the third or fourth female president since the Spokane NAACP’s inception.

I’d guess I’m also one of the youngest presidents. As a single mom who has lived on the poverty line and identifies as bisexual, perhaps some of my other demographics are also a first for Spokane. I know there is a strong majority of older straight men with strong church ties leading many of the branches nationally.

I’m a spiritual person, but not someone who belongs to any specific church in Spokane.

Nationally, as well locally, there have been very few presidents who are female throughout history.

My leadership is relevant to people who have lived experience in various historically oppressed groups, those who don’t have enough resources, those who have experienced a need for support emotionally and psychologically, and single parents and young leaders who have fought hard to gain respect.

Georgia Teacher Ousted—Taught Obama's Pro-abortion

Confirmed: Obama = Liar in Chief RE 'Gay Marriage'

In his about-to-be-released book, David Axelrod, the man responsible for all of Barack Obama's election victories of his brief political career, confirms what many people knew in 2008:  Barack Obama first advocated the Gay Agenda many decades ago.  Now today, the president and his current crop of apologists are lying again, saying Obama didn't ever lie about his position on deviant sexual lifestyles.
“Opposition to gay marriage was particularly strong in the black church, and as he ran for higher office, he grudgingly accepted the counsel of more pragmatic folks like me, and modified his position to support civil unions rather than marriage, which he would term a ‘sacred union.’”
-- David Axelrod (excerpt from his book)

No, no, no . . . “[Axelrod is] mixing up my personal feelings with my position on the issue. . . . I think the notion that somehow I was always in favor of marriage per se isn't quite accurate.”

David Axelrod said that he and other political strategists advised him to say that he only supported civil unions, not full gay marriage rights, according to excerpts of his new book obtained by Time magazine.

Obama apparently struggled with the task, complaining to Axelrod that he was “just not very good at bullshitting” after a campaign event where he stopped short of endorsing gay marriage.

Last year, a book by journalist Jo Becker reported that the decision in 2012 over how, if and when to roll out an announcement by Obama in favor of gay marriage was extensively debated among top political strategists.

From "Axelrod: Obama Misled Nation When He Opposed Gay Marriage In 2008" by Zeke J Miller, Time Magazine 2/10/15

Barack Obama misled Americans for his own political benefit when he claimed in the 2008 election to oppose same sex marriage for religious reasons, his former political strategist David Axelrod writes in a new book, Believer: My Forty Years in Politics.

The insider’s account provides the clearest look yet at Obama’s long-established flip-flop, one of the blemishes on his record as a progressive. The admission of Obama’s embrace of deception also calls into question the President’s stated embrace of a new kind of politics in 2008, when he promised to be unlike other politicians who change their views to match the political winds. “Having prided himself on forthrightness, though, Obama never felt comfortable with his compromise and, no doubt, compromised position,” Axelrod writes. “He routinely stumbled over the question when it came up in debates or interviews.”

As a state senate candidate in 1996, Obama filled out a questionnaire saying “I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages.” But 12 years later as a candidate for president, Obama told Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church that marriage could only extend to heterosexual couples. “I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman,” Obama said at the time. “Now, for me as a Christian — for me — for me as a Christian, it is also a sacred union. God’s in the mix.”

From "White House doesn't deny Axelrod coached Obama to lie about gay marriage" by Lynn Sweet, Chicago Sun-Times 2/10/15

The White House did not deny on Tuesday the revelation in David Axelrod’s new book that he coached President Barack Obama to lie about his support for gay marriage.

I asked Axelrod if the “believer in you” was comfortable in counseling Obama to modify his stand on gay marriage. I asked because that advice struck me as cynical, especially during the 2008 Obama campaign of “hope” and “change.”

“Well, this is always a delicate balance you know, because my belief was that Barack Obama as president of the United States would do more for the country and frankly more for the cause of non-discrimination than anyone else,” Axelrod said. “But he had to win, and my fear was that issue would become a distraction, so I’ll let others make value judgments about that.”

“If Obama’s views were ‘evolving’ publicly, they were fully evolved behind closed doors,” Axelrod added.

From "Yes, Obama Was Lying About Opposing Same-Sex Marriage" by David A. Graham, The Atlantic 2/10/15

Even in 2008, Barack Obama sharply divided Democrats and Republicans. It wasn't just a matter of policy disputes; it was a question of whether he was acting in good faith. (Prominent conservatives remain convinced that he hates America.) On one point, though, both liberals and conservatives agreed. Both sides were pretty sure Obama was lying when he said he opposed gay marriage.

There were good reasons to believe Obama was bullshitting, to use his term. In 1996, while running for Illinois state senate, he answered a question from a gay newspaper, saying, "I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages.” (In a classic political we're-stupid-not-dishonest maneuver, Obama communications director Dan Pfeiffer tried to claim Obama hadn't actually filled out the survey.) While running for reelection two years later, he said he was undecided. By 2006, he was citing his Christian beliefs as a reason for opposing gay marriage but adding that he was willing to consider the idea that his stance was "misguided."

So by 2008, Obama's supposed opposition was a fiction, but it was a politically effective one. The press could and did report that Obama had previously felt otherwise, but no one could prove he was lying. Liberals remained convinced that in his heart of hearts, he was lying and would eventually publicly back marriage equality. Conservatives remained convinced that in his heart of hearts, he was lying and was just waiting to announce his backing for marriage equality. (The one group that was unwilling to abide this situation, understandably, was gay activists, who insisted that rights couldn't be a matter of patience and pressured Obama to speak out at every turn.)

. . . Sometimes, lying does pay.

From "Obama disputes aide David Axelrod's take on gay marriage" by The Associated Press 2/11/15

President Barack Obama is disputing a longtime aide's view that Obama feigned opposition to gay marriage, compromising his true beliefs out of concern it could hurt him with voters.

Obama told BuzzFeed News that "I always felt that same-sex couples should be able to enjoy the same rights, legally, as anybody else and so it was frustrating to me not to, I think, be able to square that with what were a whole bunch of religious sensitivities out there." He added that he thought civil unions were "a sufficient way of squaring the circle," but that "the pain and the sense of stigma that was being placed on same-sex couples who are friends of mine" changed his mind.

He indicated his support for gay marriage in a 1996 questionnaire before backtracking years later. The president called that questionnaire "an example of struggling with what was a real issue at the time, which is, how do you make sure that people's rights are enjoyed and these religious sensitivities were taken into account?"

From "Obama Says He Didn’t Mislead on Gay Marriage" by Zeke J Miller, Time Magazine 2/11/15

President Barack Obama maintained in a new interview that he “evolved” on gay marriage, despite a top aide’s assertion in a new book that he was “bullshitting” in 2008 when he opposed the unions.

Obama told BuzzFeed that longtime political guru David Axelrod didn’t accurately characterize his position when Axelrod wrote in his new book that Obama shifted on the issue for political gains. But the President proved unable to explain why he moved away from supporting the unions despite supporting them as a state Senate candidate in 1996.

Asked specifically about the old questionnaire, Obama offered no explanation for why he said he supported the unions before deciding to oppose them.

“The old questionnaire, you know, is an example of struggling with what was a real issue at the time,” Obama said.

From "Obama Didn’t Just Lie about Opposing Gay Marriage; He Kept Citing His Faith While Doing It" by Andrew Johnson, National Review Online 2/10/15

Obama’s use of faith to explain his opposition to same-sex marriage dates back to his bid for Illinois’s Senate seat in 2004. The New York Times notes that Obama began to cite religion as the reason for his position on the issue during his race against Republican Alan Keyes, suggesting that it was part of an effort to court black voters who generally opposed the redefinition of marriage. During a debate with Keyes, when pushed to explain his position on the matter, Obama emphasized his faith.

“What I believe, in my faith, is that a man and a woman when they get married are performing something before God, and it’s not simply the two persons who are meeting,” he said. He went on to praise then-president George W. Bush for his “healthy” reversal in supporting civil unions, a position candidate Obama agreed with.

Elsewhere on the Senate campaign trail, Obama echoed that position, saying he opposed same-sex marriage but not civil unions. “The term ‘marriage’ itself has strong religious roots and a strong tradition that means something special to people in this country,”? he told reporters.
