Fed. Judge Censors Pro-life Ads on Indiana Buses

Women's Health Link is appealing a federal district court decision that allows the Fort Wayne Public Transportation Corp. to deny the women's health organization from advertising on Citilink public buses because the ads "express or advocate opinions or positions upon political, religious, or moral issues."
"Women's Health Link hasn't shown that Citilink's advertising policy was anything other than reasonable and viewpoint neutral."
-- Judge Robert L. Miller Jr.

-- From "Women's Health Link appeals Citilink ad decision" By Sheryl Krieg, The News-Sentinel (Fort Wayne, IN) 2/5/16

Women's Health Link filed the lawsuit in September 2014, alleging Citilink violated its constitutional rights, specifically the First and 14th amendments, by refusing to display an advertisement/public service announcement for its free referral service for women seeking "life-affirming health care related services."

[Judge] Miller also said, "Citilink has a detailed advertising policy limiting advertising in its buses to commercial advertisements and public service announcements that comply with the restrictions set out in section 1 of that policy and don't 'express or advocate opinions or positions upon political, religious, or moral issues,' and so far as this record shows, Citilink has consistently enforced that policy."

Kevin Theriot, Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel, said, "City officials can't run ads from non-profit groups, such as the United Way, and then single out Women's Health Link's nearly identical ad for censorship. The First Amendment protects freedom of speech for all people, regardless of their political or religious views. Because government has a responsibility to ensure equal access to community advertising, we have filed this appeal and hope the 7th Circuit [Court of Appeals in Chicago] will reverse District Court's decision."

The case began in 2013 when Women’s Health Link asked to place advertising cards in the interior of the city public transportation company Citilink’s buses, LifeNews previously reported. Citilink denied the request twice, saying that Women’s Health Link is associated with Allen County Right to Life, a pro-life organization, and that the Women’s Health Link website discusses “controversial issues.”

Citilink reportedly has permitted many non-profit and government organizations to place public service announcements with various messages in the interior of their buses, including the state of Indiana, Parkview Health and the United Way.

According to court documents, the 11-by-17-inch ad would cost $524 for three months and says "You are not alone" and "Free resources for women seeking health care" on either side of the smiling face of a young woman, with the organization's website and telephone number on a banner below.

Citilink officials rejected the proposed ad on two occasions, saying their attorneys believed that the organization's website dealt with "controversial issues," according to court documents.

The woman who submitted the advertisement on behalf of Women's Health Link [Beck Rogness] was on the organization's board of directors and also was communications manager for Allen County Right to Life, according to court documents.

Women's Health Link and Allen County Right to Life share email addresses and a physical address.

So the request was resubmitted under the agency’s provision for “public service announcements by government entities, academic institutions, or nonprofit organizations.”

Breast Cancer Solution Includes Breast-feeding

Once again, God's design of women has been proven . . .
"The evidence outlined in the series, contributed by some of the leading experts in the field, leaves no doubt that the decision not to breast-feed has major long-term negative effects on the health, nutrition and development of children and on women's health."
-- Cesar Victora, The Lancet series author, of Federal University of Pelotas in Brazil

"We want to encourage breastfeeding but I've also seen patients in tears who can't do it. This article makes it seem like developed countries, rich women, they should all be breastfeeding. But for working women, it's harder for them to breastfeed."
-- Dr. Jennifer Wu, obstetrician-gynecologist, Lenox Hill Hospital, New York

-- From "Breastfeeding could Save 800,000 Infant Deaths and 20,000 Breast Cancer Deaths Worldwide: Study" by Sandra Hicks, The California Post 1/29/16

As per the study article published online Jan. 28 in The Lancet, the decrease in children's deaths is equivalent to 13% of all deaths in children younger than 2 years of age. The report finds that the current breast-feeding practices cost the world's economy hundreds of billions of dollars a year. Cesar Victora, of Federal University of Pelotas in Brazil, said there is a widespread misconception that the benefits of breast-feeding only relate to poor countries. Nothing could be further from the truth. Victora added that the new study highlights the fact that breast-feeding saves lives and money in all countries, rich and poor alike.

. . . researchers said that breastfeeding increases children's intelligence and may protect them against obesity and diabetes later in life. For mothers, long-term breast-feeding reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Researchers estimated that poorer thinking skills among children who aren't breast-fed cost the global economy about $302 billion in 2012. The loss in high-income countries alone was $231 billion. Increasing breast-feeding rates for infants younger than 6 months to 90% in the United States, China and Brazil, and to 45% in the United Kingdom, would lower treatment costs of common childhood illnesses.

From "Worldwide Boost in Breast-Feeding Could Save 800,000 Lives: Study" posted at HealthDay News 1/28/16

Only one in five children in high-income countries is breast-fed for 12 months, the researchers said. And, only one in three children in low- and middle-income countries is exclusively breast-fed for the first 6 months.

Increasing breast-feeding rates for infants younger than 6 months to 90 percent in the United States, China and Brazil, and to 45 percent in the United Kingdom, would lower treatment costs of common childhood illnesses -- such as pneumonia, diarrhea and asthma. This could save health care systems about $2.5 billion in the United States, $29.5 million in the United Kingdom, $224 million in China and $6 million in Brazil, according to the study.

Despite the many benefits of breast-feeding, rates are low, especially in high-income countries, the study showed.

[Speaking about high-income countries, such as the United States, Dr. Jennifer Wu] said a six-week maternity leave from work makes it difficult to continue nursing for a full year.

"At six weeks, you barely have gotten breastfeeding on track. When you go back to work, breast milk goes down because you're away from the baby and can't breastfeed every two or three hours," said Wu.

She said some professions are particularly demanding. "If you're a teacher, it's really hard to find 30 minutes." There's not just time pumping, but setting up and cleaning breast pump equipment.

"There aren't many jobs where you can walk away from your job and do every few hours," Wu said. "In New York and elsewhere here in the U.S., we work very long workdays, maybe 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at night and with a commute that may extend the day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m."

She said waking up every few hours at night to breastfeed is difficult and women become sleep-deprived. "It's virtually impossible to breastfeed all night long and then work all the next day."

The leading medical journal The Lancet just released a new Series on Breastfeeding with remarkable new evidence on the health and economic benefits of breastfeeding. . . .

Now more than ever we know what needs to be done to support and enable mothers to breastfeed. With such compelling evidence, all of us, including governments, donors, development agencies, the research community, the private sector and civil society need to step up. Breastfeeding can be dramatically improved in a short period of time.

Low and middle income countries such as Burkina Faso, India, Malawi, Peru and Zambia, and high income countries such as Norway, Sweden and Finland, have shown that it is possible to maintain high breastfeeding rates or increase rates in a short period of time provided political commitment, strong policies and programs are in place.

The two-part [Lancet] series is the most detailed analysis of levels, trends and benefits of breastfeeding around the world.

In a podcast interview for the series, Prof. Victora says while we are only "beginning to scratch the surface," a lot of evidence is emerging about the biology of breastfeeding and the components and properties of breast milk.

He quotes a colleague who likens breast milk to "very exquisite personalized medicine" because it reflects the biological interaction between the mother and her child, "something that formula will never be able to imitate," he notes.

He says we are also beginning to understand that breast milk has epigenetic effects - that is, it influences the expression of genes that control cell activity and development. And, another recent discovery is that breast milk contains stem cells.

The depth and breadth of the Breastfeeding Series included 28 systematic reviews and meta-analyses--22 commissioned specifically for the Series. In total, more than 1,300 studies were reviewed to provide the most exhaustive look at the benefits, determinants, and trends in breastfeeding to date.

According to Series co-lead, Dr. Nigel Rollins with the Department of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health at the World Health Organization, "This new research demonstrates that breastfeeding results in improved child development, with huge economics gains for individuals, families, as well as at the national level."

For each of the first two years a mother breastfeeds over her lifetime, she decreases her risk of developing invasive breast cancer by six percent. She also benefits from reduced ovarian cancer risk.

Approximately 20,000 breast cancer deaths are prevented each year by breastfeeding; improved rates could prevent another 20,000 deaths each year.

Women Who Birth More Children Live Longer: Study

A study by a team of Canadian researchers shows that women who deliver a greater number of children (e.g.: those who shun abortion) are biologically destined to live longer, as measured by the length of their "telomeres" — the portion of the chromosomes affecting how cells age.
“These results suggest that, at least in our study population, having more surviving children acts as a protective factor . . .”
-- Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia

Probably we all, especially women, always scare of growing old. Now a new research has suggested a new way for ladies to live longer and slow down ageing- Have more kids!

The astonishing findings contradict a conventional wisdom that giving birth to a number of children accelerates the pace of a woman’s biological aging.

Telomeres are the protective caps at the end of each strand of DNA, like the plastic tips at the end of shoelaces, that protect our chromosomes from deterioration.

The length of telomeres is associated with cellular ageing, hence longer telomeres are associated with longevity, explain the researchers.

From "Why Having More Kids Slows Down the Aging Process" by Rachel Grumman Bender, Yahoo Parenting 1/11/16

Researchers at Simon Fraser University in Canada studied indigenous women in Guatemala who have high fertility rates in general and found that those with more children had longer telomeres, which are a sign of slower cellular aging, compared with those who had fewer offspring. “Telomeres are little pieces of DNA at the end of chromosomes that protect the rest of the chromosome,” Pablo A. Nepomnaschy, PhD, one of the study’s authors and an associate professor at Simon Fraser University, tells Yahoo Parenting. “The older the cell gets, the shorter the telomere.” On the flip side, long telomeres are associated with longevity.

Although more research is needed to understand why, Nepomnaschy and his colleagues hypothesize that estrogen plays a role. The hormone, which is high during pregnancy, is a known protective factor against oxidative stress, which ages cells, according to Nepomnaschy. “Perhaps the more times you go through pregnancy, the more time you — and your cells — spend protected,” he says.

From "Having more children could slow aging" by Honor Whiteman, Medical News Today 1/8/16

In the journal PLOS One, researchers reveal that women who had more children had longer telomeres than women who had fewer children.

Each time a cell replicates, telomeres become shorter. They eventually become so short that they stop protecting chromosomes, leaving them vulnerable to damage, which in turn causes our cells to age and stop functioning effectively.

Previously, animal studies have supported the "life history theory," suggesting that higher reproductive behavior is associated with accelerated biological aging.

However, this latest study, led by Prof. Pablo Nepomnaschy and Cindy Barha - both of Simon Fraser University in Canada - contradicts this theory.

Each additional child linked to an increase in telomere length

From "Number of Children and Telomere Length in Women: A Prospective, Longitudinal Evaluation" by Cindy K. Barha, Courtney W. Hanna, Katrina G. Salvante, Samantha L. Wilson, Wendy P. Robinson, Rachel M. Altman, Pablo A. Nepomnaschy, posted at PLOS ONE 1/5/16

Here we investigate the relationship between the number of surviving children born to a woman and telomere length (TL, a marker of cellular aging) over 13 years in a group of 75 Kaqchikel Mayan women. Contrary to LHT’s [life history theory] prediction, women who had fewer children exhibited shorter TLs than those who had more children (p = 0.045) after controlling for TL at the onset of the 13-year study period. . . .

At a “proximate” level, mechanisms involved may include the actions of the gonadal steroid estradiol, which increases dramatically during pregnancy. Estradiol is known to protect TL from the effects of oxidative stress as well as increase telomerase activity, an enzyme that maintains TL. . . .

Here we prospectively evaluated the relationship between number of offspring and change in TL across a 13-year period in a cohort of indigenous Kaqchikel Mayan women. In this population, number of offspring is high and varies remarkably among individuals, providing a good model to investigate a potential association between reproductive effort and the pace of cellular aging in humans. Improving our understanding of the factors that influence inter-individual differences in TL changes can provide useful information to help improve our management of wellbeing, morbidity and mortality during the aging process.

Pro-lifers March on D.C. Amid Government Shutdown

Federal bureaucrats closed Washington D.C. on Friday in the face of the deadly winter weather front closing in on the city, but tens of thousands of citizens braved the weather in D.C. for the 43rd annual March for Life to denounce the deadly politics of Roe v. Wade that is responsible for killing scores of millions of unborn children.  The national mainstream media was virtually absent the event and only one 2016 presidential candidate showed up — a woman!
“The establishment media and political class don’t want us to talk about what the abortion industry is doing. You saw what happened when I talked about the horrific truth of the planned parenthood videos during a Republican debate. Unlike the media, you’ve watched the videos. You’ve seen an aborted baby, it’s legs kicking, it’s heart beating while the technician describes how they would keep these babies alive to harvest their organs.”

With much of the D.C. region in the midst of complete shut-down frenzy – grocery and sled stores were packed, though downtown D.C. was quiet — for what is predicted to be a historic snow storm, city officials had suggested to the March for Life organizers that they prioritize participants’ safety – what sounded like a hint to cancel. But actual snow held off for the first hour or so of the event, giving protesters a chance to rally at the foot of the Washington Monument, before the temperatures plunged and the snow began to fall as the march up to the Supreme Court began.

The overall scene was dramatically smaller than normal, with usually-crowded sidewalks and lawns all along the Mall instead dotted with protesters, including nuns and priests in their garb and packs of Catholic school students holding signs and wearing hats that matched their group. Evangelical leaders made a concerted effort this year to bring their activists to what is traditionally a strongly Catholic event and several national evangelical leaders spoke from the stage to the rally.

Among those in the crowd was Richard Stith, 71, an Indiana law professor who called himself a part of a segment he dubbed “lefties for life” — Catholics whom he said support issues like the death penalty and LGBT rights as part of “a consistent ethic for life.” He said he had been a member of a group called Socialists for Life as well and always felt welcome at the march.

Tens of thousands of the movement’s faithful — made up largely of high school and college students outfitted in matching jackets, scarves or hats — took to the streets to protest on the 43rd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.

Event organizers also took notice [of the youthful demographic], passing out signs proclaiming the arrival of the “Pro-Life Generation.”

“A lot of us are young people — the pro-life generation — who care about life from womb to tomb,” said Victor Esposito, 20, who was with a group of students from Catholic University of America wearing red embroidered scarves.

“There’s come this recognition that as more and more science and technology comes out, we begin to recognize that life really does start at conception,” he added.

The theme of the March, “Pro-life and pro-women go hand in hand,” sought to emphasize the gender diversity of the anti-abortion-rights movement, challenging the narrative that opposition to abortion constitutes a “war on women.”

From "Fiorina becomes pro-life favorite through struggling presidential bid" by Paige Winfield Cunningham, Washington Examiner 1/22/16

In her trademark pointed and articulate style, Fiorina launched an attack on abortion rights and the groups that promote them . . . "You can scream and throw condoms at me all day long — you cannot scare me," Fiorina said, to cheers from the crowd of activists gathered on the National Mall. "I know the value of life."

While nearly all of Fiorina's Republican opponents hold the same positions on abortion, favoring more restrictions on it and backing recent efforts by Congress to block public funding for Planned Parenthood, Fiorina has eagerly embraced the topic in a way the others haven't.

"Ideological feminism now shuts down conversation on college campuses and in the media," Fiorina said at the March for Life. "If you are a conservative who doesn't believe the litany of the Left, you are waging a war on women."

There's broad feeling among the anti-abortion movement that it needs more focus on how abortion affects women, partially to counter the "war on women" messaging that Democrats, Planned Parenthood and other supporters of abortion rights have pushed. Fiorina agrees with that goal.

'Gay Gene' Theory Countered by Federal Gov't Study

Once again, President Obama's health agency couldn't find even 2% of America as homosexual, and the agency's just-released study even raises doubts that sexual orientation is "hard wired."

Women in the United States are about three times as likely as men to say they are bisexual, and increasing numbers of them say they have had sexual contact with other females, new data showed Thursday.

Among women, 5.5 percent said they are bisexual, compared to two percent of men.

The CDC’s sexuality report, as well as their questionnaire, were highly praised by experts nation-wide, and even by the [HRC] Human Rights Campaign [a gay-rights, LGBTQ advocate], as one of the most accurate studies of its sort ever performed.

Experts were impressed by the accuracy and high specificity of the questions presented by the CDC, which differentiated between parameters like sexual behavior, sexual attraction, and sexual orientation, and even allowed responders to answer with a relative attraction level towards both genders in particular.

Subjects were chosen to be aged between 18 and 44, all throughout the entire nation. The researchers had a sample of 9,000 participants, which they then presented with the questionnaire.

The percentage of bisexual men only increased by .8% from the previous study performed a few years ago, but the percentage of bisexual women increased by a whopping 40%.

The finding that women were more likely than men to say they were bisexual is consistent with what previous studies have found, said Casey E. Copen, demographer at the CDC National Center for Health Statistics and lead author of the study, which was published on Thursday.

Women were also more likely than men to report having same-sex sexual contact. Compared with 17.4% of women, only 6.2% of men said they had ever had this activity.

Dr. Art Sedrakyan of Weill Cornell Medicine in New York and colleagues analyzed data from 8,048 women who got Essure implants and compared them to 44,278 who had standard surgery to block or "tie" their fallopian tubes between 2005 and 2013 in New York State.

"A more than 10-fold higher occurrence of reoperation during the first year following Essure-based surgery is a serious safety concern," the team wrote in their report.

"And that surgery is likely to be much more complicated than the laproscopic approach that they should be considering."

The FDA is not considering pulling the device off the market, but will determine whether extra warnings should be added.

From "Essure sterilization method under fire" by Elizabeth Cohen, Senior Medical Correspondent, CNN 9/27/15

From November 2002 through May 2015, more than 5,000 women complained to the Food and Drug Administration about the sterilization device, saying it caused problems including unintended pregnancies, stillbirths and debilitating pain and bleeding. On Thursday, the FDA held an all-day hearing on Essure, taking testimony from patients and experts, and promising to announce next steps in the near future.

. . . [Kristiana] Burrell, who also has three stepchildren, said she became pregnant while using the Essure device, even though at the time she was also using a back-up method of birth control.

That baby, whom she and her husband named Ariel Grace, was born in June, nearly three months early. She never took a breath.

Burrell said her obstetrician blamed Essure for the stillbirth, saying the device's coil ruptured her amniotic sac, causing Burrell to go into labor prematurely. She said she now needs a hysterectomy because the device has perforated her uterus.

Sterilization with Essure (called hysteroscopic sterilization) does offer benefits compared to other kinds of procedures, Sedrakyan team said, and it's not clear how many of the reoperations were required due to serious medical problems.

Essure procedures were more expensive (a median of $7,800 compared to $5,100) than surgical procedures, the researchers said. And 30 days after the procedure, the odds of a major medical complication were lower for Essure procedures than for surgery.

However, 2 percent of Essure patients required reoperations later on compared to just 0.2 percent of surgical patients. The difference remained after the researchers adjusted their statistics to account for age and other health problems.

From "F.D.A. Panel Weighs Complaints on Essure Contraceptive Implant" by Sabrina Tavernise, New York Times 9/24/15

A panel of experts convened by the Food and Drug Administration excoriated the manufacturer of a contraceptive device for not collecting data that they say could have helped predict risks for women. . . .

Women told of autoimmune problems such as eczema, lupus, celiac disease, of cysts, abscesses and tumors, of severe fatigue and losing control of their bowels, and of odysseys through the health care system in search of diagnoses. Many women have sued the company. The company’s supporters say it is not clear what share of those problems, if any, were caused by the device.

Perhaps most troubling was an account by Gabriella Avina, who said she had taken part in the original clinical trials and had worked for the company, explaining the device to women when it first came on the market. . . . She was found to have celiac disease, a thyroid disorder and myasthenia gravis, illnesses that required multiple hospitalizations, chemotherapy and transfusions.

. . . Bayer continued to stand by the device, saying its safety “is supported by more than a decade of science, with more than 10,000 women studied.” . . . It estimates that a million Essure devices have been distributed around the world, about 60 percent of them in the United States.

-- From "Women who have never had sex give 'virgin birth' through IVF, say doctors" by Jess Staufenberg, UK Independent 9/28/15

About 25 young women in the UK who are hetereosexual and in their twenties have opted for IVF in the past five years because they feel ready to be a parent, doctors told the Mail on Sunday.

Whilst some religious groups have said a child should be brought up in a traditional family, one doctor said these single mothers are often more emotionally and financially stable than others who have been left to bring up a child after a relationship breakdown.

The news follows up a survey in 2013 which showed that one in every 200 women in the US reported to have become pregnant without having had sexual intercourse.

Out of these women, 31% said they had signed a chastity pledge whereby they vow, usually for religious reasons, not to have sex. About 28% of those girls' parents said they rarely talked to them about sex or contraception - compared to only 5% of other women who became pregnant and had had intercourse.

From "Virgin Births: 25 Heterosexual Women In Britain Have Given Birth Without Ever Having Sex" by Ellen Wallwork, The Huffington Post UK 9/28/15

Fertility treatments have opened up the ways by which women and men can become parents and four British IVF firms have said they had assisted a heterosexual virgin to have a baby: Care Fertility, The London Women’s Clinic, Create Fertility, and the Assisted Reproduction and Gynaecology Centre.

The decision to provide fertility treatment in such cases was criticised by some religious groups, who claimed it undermined the importance of bringing up children in stable marriages, as well as from Josephine Quintavalle, from the group Comment on Reproductive Ethics, who said to the Mail:

"The message from nature is for a male and female to have a child, and I am saddened that we are willing to distort this.

"The diminished role of the father is not desirable for the child. Once you start down this route, where do you stop?"

Fertiilty doctors said single women who had never had sexual intercourse were seeking donor-assisted treatment – at a cost of around £5,000 – because they wanted to have a child now and save sex for a “special relationship”.

Maha Ragunath, medical director of its clinic in Nottingham, said: “The number of single women I see has doubled over the last decade and single women now account for at least ten per cent of my patients.

“A lot of them are very young, in their 20s, sometimes studying or doing very ordinary jobs and often living with their parents, rather than career women who have been driven and focused too much on their work”

“They are extremely happy to go ahead on their own and don’t care about the implications that might bring for the child or how they would go into a new relationship.”

From "Virgin Births: Women Become Impregnated Thanks To IVF Treatment At British Clinics" by Ted Ranosa, Tech Times 9/28/15

Supporters of the traditional family system, however, have blasted the "distorted" move, stating that it was turning young children into "teddy bears" that are to be "picked off the shelf."

Some religious groups have also claimed that the move undermines the value of having children brought up in a stable marriage, while one leading psychotherapist has warned that a mother who has never been in a relationship could potential harm the development of the child.

Imam Suhaib Hasan, head of the Islamic Sharia Council in the UK, accused doctors engaged in providing IVF treatment to patients of acting like God.

Hasan said that when the man is removed from the aspect of a family, the woman becomes merely a breeding machine. He added that it effectively denies the right of the child to have a father.

From "Virgin Babies: Side Effects After Birth" by Anna Amad, The Science Times 9/28/15

Professor Robert Winston said "test-tube babies could suffer terrible health problems because the clinics were using IVF techniques which had not been properly tested."

He added, that the risk could include birth defects, genetic damage which may not emerge until adulthood and an increased chance of cancer. The medical profession was ignoring the evidence of problems that could take place.

Aside from that, he stressed the long-term attack of IVF, and follows a growing body of evidence that test tube babies are less healthy than the naturally conceived children.

Conversely, another study had been generated by Lord Winston at over three million normal conceptions and 40,000 IVF babies that found that IVF babies were two and half times more likely to have a low birth weight and prematurity compared to those babies with normal reproduction. Since it is not 100% guaranteed, it can lead to unsuccessful birth cycle.

Winston even stated, that small babies are more likely to grow up to develop vascular disease, diabetes, hypertension and osteoporosis.

Birth Control Pills Kill Woman Aged 21 in 3 Weeks

Fallan Kurek, 21, of Tamworth, Staffordshire (England) suffered a blood clot as a confirmed result of taking birth control pills for 25 consecutive days, as prescribed; she died after three days of intensive care.  The multitude of deadly side effects of contraceptives are well documented, yet unknown to most users.
"We felt angry when they first mentioned it could be the pill. . . . I couldn't believe nobody had said the pill could do this. It should say it on the pack and the label that they can kill."

[Kurek] was taken to Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield, where doctors said the pill was the probable cause of the blood clot on her lung.

A brain scan revealed there was no activity because of oxygen starvation and after three days in intensive care, her parents [Julia and Brian Kurek] made the decision to turn off her life support on 14 May.

The link between combined contraceptives and blood clots has been known for several decades and is closely monitored by international regulators.

The risk of blood clots varies depending on the type of hormone pills contain, ranging from five to 12 cases of blood clots per 10,000 women who use them for a year.

The family wants to raise awareness of the potential side effects, he said, adding: “We can’t bring her back, all we can do is maybe save another life.”

Paramedics arrived and began carrying out tests on the still conscious Miss Kurek, but within minutes they switched to emergency CPR when she stopped breathing.

She was rushed to Good Hope Hospital's intensive care unit, where she was put on a ventilator and emergency scans on her head and chest took place.

The scan revealed she had a large clot on her lung, causing the right side of her heart to become inflamed, and that she was now clinically brain dead.

All Women's College Accepts Cross-dressing Men

Smith College, the ages-old prestigious all-women college in Northampton, Massachusetts, just announced that it will enroll men who pretend to be women (no physical/medical/surgical "sex change" needed), but will NOT accept actual, biological females who pretend to be men, but if current women students decide to pretend to be men, they may complete their education while identifying as men.
"I hereby make the following provisions for the establishment and maintenance of an Institution for the higher education of young women, with the design to furnish for my own sex means and facilities for education equal to those which are afforded now in our colleges to young men."

The policy change comes after a year of study that included reviewing the college admissions policy and "society's evolving understanding of gender," Smith President Kathleen McCartney and Board Chair Elizabeth Mugar Eveillard said in a statement.

The college said it will not accept applications from transgender men who were born female, though students who transition during their time at Smith will not be affected. The college will make admission decisions based on gender identification or whether an applicant selects female as the gender on the application.

The board's decision "affirms Smith's unwavering mission and identity as a women's college, our commitment to representing the diversity of women's lived experiences," the college said in the statement.

Notably, the new policy also opens the school to “gender non-binary” students, those who claim they are part of a third gender, all genders, or no genders at all. At the same time, however, Smith’s FAQ regarding the new policy says these individuals must also identify as women, leaving it unclear how this openness will be applied in practice.

A transgender individual is one who identifies with a gender different from their biological sex. A biological male doesn’t necessarily have to have received sex-reassignment surgery or even hormone treatments in order to be considered a transgendered female, meaning that some of the college’s newly-admitted trans students could be decidedly male in their physical attributes.

Smith isn’t the first women’s college to loosen its standards regarding who qualifies as a woman. Mount Holyoke College announced it would start admitting the transgendered last fall, and Wellesley College made a similar announcement two months ago.

Doctors: Abortion Causes Breast Cancer—Media Silent

As liberal media continue to tout abortion industry claims to the contrary, the American College of Pediatricians is repeating its conclusive warning of the causal link of abortion to breast cancer, especially for adolescents. A 2013 study by Dr. Rebecca Johnson, Seattle Children’s Hospital cancer specialist, demonstrates “an increasing risk of breast cancer with each subsequent abortion,” but finds no evidence of increased breast cancer risk from miscarriage.

The [pediatricians group's] press release claims that "the medical community has been reluctant to acknowledge the link, induced abortion prior to a full term delivery, and prior to 32 weeks of gestation, increases the likelihood that a woman will develop breast cancer."

A study led by Dr. Johnson and her colleagues and published in Feb 2013 shows that incidence of metastatic breast cancer in young women aged 25 to 39 years has been increased in the U.S., according to the release.  Studies in China, India and Romania show that abortion is associated with risk of breast cancer in a “dose” responsive manner.

In the United States, about one third of pregnancies are terminated or aborted.

From "Know Your ABCs: The Abortion Breast Cancer Link" Press Release by The American College of Pediatricians 4/7/15

In February 2013, Dr. Johnson and her colleagues made national news when they reported an increased incidence of metastatic breast cancer in young women in the U.S. aged 25 – 39 years.  Other epidemiological studies from China, India, and Romania demonstrate an increasing incidence of breast cancer as abortions increased – with a “dose effect” showing an increasing risk of breast cancer with each subsequent abortion. President Den Trumbull states, “When one considers the normal anatomy and physiology of the breast it becomes clear that this link is causal not merely correlational.”

The College looks to the day when the lives and health of all children from conception to natural death will be respected and protected. In the mean time, the College urges all health care providers to educate women on the risks associated with induced abortion, including the increased risk of breast cancer.

From "Abortion and the Risk of Breast Cancer: Information for the Adolescent Woman and Her Parents" by American College of Pediatricians – December 2013

Induced abortion (IA) prior to 32 weeks gestation appears to increase a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer. This association is largely ignored by the mainstream medical community, not included in sex education programs, and even disputed by some. For example, the Guttmacher Institute claims, “Exhaustive reviews by panels convened by the U.S. and British governments have concluded that there is no association between abortion and breast cancer. There is also no indication that abortion is a risk factor for other cancers.” However, as documented by the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, the vast majority of studies (57 of 73 worldwide) do show a strong association between IA and an increased risk of breast cancer. This discrepancy exists for many reasons, including bias in the selection of articles chosen for “exhaustive review,” as well as flaws in methodology (e.g. including spontaneous abortions along with IAs) of some studies that discount the association. As with any medical treatment or recommendation, a lack of 100 percent certainty and the need for constant re-evaluation is not a legitimate rationale for withholding potentially life-threatening information concerning an elective procedure.

From "Abortion and Breast Cancer: The Stubborn Link Returns" by Joel Brind, National Review 3/10/15

Prominent abortion practitioner and promoter David Grimes bemoans that bumper stickers still warn that abortion increases the risk of breast cancer, even though, he asserts, that “theory . . . was debunked long ago.” So begins Grimes’s recent piece on the Huffington Post’s blog Healthy Living. “Long ago” was, though Grimes doesn’t say so, 1997 to 2008, when there flowed a stream of “debunking” publications — largely studies that were methodologically flawed — reporting that no abortion–breast cancer (ABC) link existed. They were effective in fading the ABC link from public consciousness. But now the ABC link has returned, stubbornly, provoking renewed efforts to debunk it.

Being real, the ABC link is showing up, conspicuously, as millions of women worldwide who have had abortions over the past several decades are coming down with breast cancer at alarmingly increased rates. Dozens of papers are being published that show the trend. Grimes does not acknowledge the recent studies, however, relying rather on the discredited arguments of “long ago” — and some clever sleight of hand — in his shoddy attempt to disprove the link.

. . . Contrary to Grimes’s claim that the ABC link was long ago “debunked,” the epidemiological evidence has grown tremendously stronger. The inference of a causal association between abortion and breast cancer has become all the more compelling, with our advancing knowledge of the hormonal changes during pregnancy and of how such changes during interrupted pregnancies dovetail with the susceptibility of cells in the breast to become cancerous.

But Grimes makes mention of no data from this century at all, only of data from “long ago.”

With over a billion women in China and India alone, a very conservative prediction would be that in the coming decades, millions there will die of breast cancer that can be attributed to abortion. No wonder Grimes is not interested in the recent data: It’s devastating to his “safe abortion” agenda.

From "The breast cancer epidemic: 10 facts" by A. Patrick Schneider II, Christine M. Zainer, Christopher Kevin Kubat, Nancy K. Mullen and Amberly K. Windisch, published in The Linacre Quarterly 81 (3) 2014, 244–277

Affecting one in eight U.S. women, breast cancer is a modern American epidemic. This review contains 10 facts that summarize the emerging epidemiology of this tragic development. . . . The incidence of breast cancer has risen dramatically during the last four decades. Moreover, a growing international acceptance of Western style sexual and reproductive practices has been associated with an increase in worldwide breast cancer rates. A number of breast cancer risk factors that are potentially preventable are now established. An early epidemiological insight was that a delay (or avoidance) of childbearing raises the risk of breast cancer. Similarly, a reduced duration (or avoidance) of breastfeeding, is a loss of a natural breast cancer preventive. A greater understanding of the cancer-protective physiological mechanisms that occur during the first full-term pregnancy (FFTP) has resulted in an enhanced understanding of the breast cancer “susceptibility window” that occurs between puberty and the FFTP.

. . . Many reports from the United States and other Western countries have also linked induced abortion (IA) to breast cancer (the abortion–breast cancer (ABC) link). Recently, there has been a surge in the number of reports from multiple, non-Western nations, associating abortion with breast cancer. Consequently, there is now sufficient evidence to conclude that IA is causally linked to breast cancer.

There is also evidence of a compounding of breast cancer risk factors in girls and young women. Recent epidemiological research found a large increase in this malignancy in young women that is metastatic (to bone, brain, and lungs) at the time of diagnosis. This ominous development has “no recommended screening practice” and a dismal prognosis. This sobering trend mandates the need for disclosure of breast cancer risk factors. A medical, legal, and ethical duty for full and accurate informed consent exists for all females. This is especially imperative for a girl (with her parent or guardian), or a young woman, who is considering the choice of an oral contraceptive (OC), including so-called “emergency contraception (EC),” IA (or both) during her “susceptibility window.”

Univ. Recruits Teens for Experimental Abortions

Much research is being done on oxytocin, the hormone that increases during pregnancy and causes a strong impulse for a mother to care for her baby.  Now the University of Hawaii and the University of Washington are conducting studies on mothers as young as fourteen who abort their babies to observe various effects of oxytocin, or lack thereof (possibly death of the teen girl).

Oxytocin is often referred to as the "love hormone," hailed for its role in sexual attraction and maternal bonding. But according to new research, the hormone may also influence maternal social behavior.

The study, recently published in the journal Nature, reveals how oxytocin increases the processing of social information in the left auditory cortex of the brain, prompting female mice to respond to distress calls from their pups.

Next, the team plans to gain a better understanding of the way oxytocin is released in the brain under natural conditions after childbirth.

[Oxytocin] surges each time a mother's milk becomes available to nourish and comfort her baby. It spikes when she gazes at her infant, or hears its cry from another room.

“We found that oxytocin turns up the volume of social information processed in the brain," said Robert Froemke, the study's senior author and an assistant professor at New York University's Langone School of Medicine and its Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine.

That makes oxytocin both more powerful and less powerful than many have believed, said Froemke. The hormone should be understood not as a fast-acting love potion, but rather as a well-timed neural nudge toward more social behavior.

From "University Recruits Teens to Abort Their Babies in Name of 'Scientific Research'" by Kristan Hawkins, LifeNews.com 4/15/15

Researchers in Hawaii are recruiting girls as young as 14 to participate in second trimester abortions, where the preborn baby is 18-24 weeks gestation, in order to test whether or not oxytocin can reduce bleeding in mothers during and after abortion.

The clinical study in Hawaii is seeking 166 participants and supposedly started in October of last year and is expected to finish in July of this year. . . .

This study at the University of Hawaii is seeking to abort babies 18-24 weeks gestation, putting mothers at a high risk of complications and even death.

The study is currently under way at the Kapiolani Medical Center in Honolulu, led by Bliss Kaneshiro and Kate Whitehouse. The center does not mention they do abortions on their website nor does it mention they are housing this study and aborting possibly viable babies.

From "Late-Term Abortion Bleeding Experiment" by Mark Stricherz, Aleteia 4/9/15

Aborting a pregnancy in the second trimester carries risks, physicians say. Irregular bleeding is common for two weeks after the procedure and nine American women who have abortions after 20 weeks gestation die every year, according to figures from medical and abortion-provider groups.

In the randomized trial, researchers experiment by either providing or denying intravenous oxytocin to abortion patients. Oxytocin is commonly used to minimize blood loss and decrease the risk of hemorrhage. However, some doctors are concerned that denying oxytocin during surgery may put patients, especially teen girls, at risk.

Researchers will follow patients until they leave the clinic and gauge their "satisfaction, pain score, and postoperative bleeding," according to the study.

Culturally progressive news sites have not reported on the trial. But Planned Parenthood cites two studies to show that women who abort their pregnancy in the second term are still less likely to die than women who give birth.

Feminism Destroying America: Census Childlessness

According to the new U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey, women who succeed in managerial and professional occupations (most notably in the Northeast) are leading the rapidly accelerating trend of childlessness, which includes nearly half of all women aged 15 to 44. Childless women at age 40 will likely never have children, while twice as many women today aged 40 to 44 have only one child compared to in 1976.

More women in the U.S. are childless than at any other time since the government began keeping track, a new survey found.

Among women between 25 and 29, 49.6% were childless in 2014, also an all-time high. In the group between 30 and 34, 28.9% were childless, up from 28.2% in 2012 but below an all-time high of 29.7% in 2010.

As of 2013, the general fertility rate in the U.S., as measured by the number of babies women between 15 and 44 have over their lifetimes, had fallen for six straight years and sat at 1.86, according to the New York Times. Maintaining a stable U.S. population would require a fertility rate of 2.1.

From "Census Report: More women opting out of motherhood" by Erin Lowrey, Digital Content Manager, WDAM-TV7 (Hattiesburg, MS) 4/10/15

The decline may be linked back to the wide use of birth control and contraception. When the statistics were first being measured, birth control had only been around for about ten years. With contraception being widely used and easy to access, women can now choose when they want to become pregnant.

However, career goals can also be determining factor in the decline, according to the data.

The report confirmed that women age 40 to 50 in 2014 who were in managerial or professional occupations were more likely to be childless than women of similar age in other occupations.

From "A Record Percentage Of Women Don't Have Kids. Here's Why That Makes Sense." by Emma Gray, The Huffington Post 4/9/15

The census data is backed up by data from the National Center for Health Statistics. According to a recent report, in 2013 there were just 62.9 births for every 1,000 women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the U.S. -- an all-time low.

As Mic Senior Editor Elizabeth Plank argued, for many women, not having kids may simply be the most rational choice. . . . "There has been a profound disconnect between the speed at which women have been asked to take full-time roles in the workplace and the rate at which we've adapted laws and social programs to support this drastic change in the lives of women," writes Plank. "The reality is that if you're both a mother and an employee, every day is a double-shift."

Many women still want to become moms, but others realize that life without kids can be just as fulfilling. As Sezin Koehler wrote for The Huffington Post in September: "I don't need to push a child out of my vagina to be a real woman."

From "US Birth Rates Continue To Plummet: Nearly Half Of All American Women Do Not Have A Child" by Justin Caba, Medical Daily 4/9/15

Unfortunately, it seems that some women in today’s childless generation will remain that way. Seventeen percent of women without a child are between the ages of 45 and 50, which is outside the healthy childbearing age range. Meanwhile, 49.6 percent of women within the typical fertility age — between the ages of 25 and 29 — did not have children in 2014. Three out of every four childless women had never been married either.

More and more research suggests that women are either holding off getting pregnant or forgoing it completely, not due to fertility or infertility, but because they are waiting to become financially stable, have more professional opportunities, and better access to different avenues of birth control. Another survey conducted by the CDC found that female sterilization has become almost as widely used as birth control pills.

From "More U.S. Women Are Going Childless" by Neil Shah, Wall Street Journal 4/7/15

Some Americans may now prefer life without children, though most still report in surveys that they want two kids. Others may be struggling to have children, or can’t afford expensive fertility treatments.

Juggling work and family is a big factor. Census said women aged 40 to 50 years who were in managerial or professional occupations were more likely to be childless than women of similar age in other occupations.

With more women having their first child in their mid 30s, late 30s and early 40s, American families may be shrinking: The number of women aged 40 to 44 who had only one child roughly doubled between 1976 and 2014, Census said.

These trends have helped push America’s fertility rate to record lows . . .

From "Why More Women Are Choosing Not to Have Children" by Rachel Grumman Bender, Yahoo Parenting 4/9/15

There are several possible reasons why birth rates are dropping, including women delaying getting married and having children as their career takes a front seat. . . .

For others, becoming a parent simply isn’t a calling. “I’ve always known I didn’t want kids,” Kathleen D. tells Yahoo Parenting. “I just never felt the desire. The main reason I don’t want them is because I really value my freedom. I always want to be able to take risks and move wherever I want in the world without having to worry about their school. If my husband and I lose everything, we only have to take care of ourselves.”

For Anne R. and her husband, not having children stemmed from a combination of never feeling ready for kids, as well as focusing on their careers and a passion for traveling at a moment’s notice. “After 11 years of marriage, I feel like I can say, we’re pretty good at being married, but I’m not sure we’d be great parents,” she tells Yahoo Parenting. “Now, I’m 35 and my husband is 37, so we kind of faced the decision, and it’s like, wow, we’re really happy and content and a lot of married couples don’t get to say that, so let’s just be okay with it and keep on doing what we’re doing.”

This is a growing trend that Ellen L. Walker, Ph.D., author of Complete Without Kids . . .

From "More women are childless, even though Americans want bigger families" by Quentin Fottrell, MarketWatch 4/7/15

. . . many Americans do wish they had more children. Michelle Patterson, 44, had two children 17 months apart. “We ended up having kids right away,” she says. “The plan was to wait awhile. That wasn’t in the cards.” At the time of her second pregnancy, she was vice president at a major recruitment firm. She feared that having another child so soon would impact her career and even the company. “I was petrified of telling the president of my company that I was pregnant again,” she says. “I asked myself, ‘How can I be vice president of this company and do this?’”

Many Americans are indeed choosing to have fewer children than their parents did. Despite this, however, recent research finds that many still long to have bigger families. . . .

More surprisingly perhaps, around 40% of U.S. women nearing the end of their childbearing years say they have fewer children than their ideal, according to the General Social Survey carried out by NORC at the University of Chicago, a nonpartisan, independent research organization. . . .

“More women are also delaying having a family to focus on their career and education and, as time goes on, the window of fertility gets smaller and smaller,” [senior researcher at Pew Research Center, Gretchen] Livingston says. Plus, some women who want to have kids lack a suitable partner, she adds. . . .
