Infanticide for the Disabled Pushed by Bioethicist

Udu Schuklenk, Professor of Philosophy and Ontario Research Chair in Bioethics at Queen’s University, who headed the Royal Society of Canada Expert Panel on End-of-Life Decision Making, is advocating what he calls "postnatal abortion" for imperfect babies not wanted by his/her parent(s).
“Once we have concluded that death is what is in the best interest of the infant, it is unreasonable not to bring about this death as painlessly and as much controlled in terms of timing by the parents as is feasible.”
For background, read how American attitudes regarding "defective human beings" are trending toward that of Belgium where doctors kill months-old infants who are deemed deficient.

-- From "End-of-life debate turns to newborns: ‘Postnatal abortion’ morally acceptable in some cases, ethicist says" by Tom Blackwell, National Post 12/7/14

[Prof. Schuklenk] wrote the opinion piece after being invited to debate the newborn issue at a conference of the American Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in Toronto earlier this year.

Euthanasia would even be preferable to “terminal sedation,” where food and liquids are removed from a dying patient, because it would save parents and medical staff the distress of seeing a baby waste away over days or weeks, said Prof. Schuklenk.

The Netherlands does permit euthanasia of some newborns. . . .

[Schuklenk] rejected the notion that allowing euthanasia in such cases would lead to a slippery slope where the idea is applied increasingly broadly. . . .

From "Should severely disabled infants be euthanased?" by Michael Cook, BioEdge 12/6/14

After dismissing arguments drawn from human dignity, sanctity-of-life, and the principle of double effect, Schuklenk still has to explain why a suffering infant could not be simply sedated so that it would not suffer, thus avoiding the need for euthanasia. The answer he says, is that parents and doctors and nurses would suffer unnecessarily.
The unnecessarily prolonged dying of their infant son would extend a severely distressing situation for the parents. They would have to witness the deterioration of their infant son over a period of days, possibly weeks. Some of the attending health care professionals would undoubtedly also find it psychologically difficult to watch the child die foreseeably an unnecessarily slow death. …. Given that a terminally sedated infant would have no surviving interests to speak of, the interests of these other parties matter. If his prolonged dying is harmful to them, a further quality-of-life based argument in favor of terminating the infant's life is established.

From "The 'Quality of Life' Slouch Toward Infanticide" by Wesley J. Smith, National Review Online 5/15/14

[Udu Schuklenk writes in his] “What We Should Do About Severely Impaired Newborns?”
If we merely go by the newborn’s quality of life and life prospects it seems indeed best to end the unfolding tragedy sooner rather than later, but probably a decision should be arrived at with parental consent as opposed to against the unfortunate parents. It turns out that one can reasonably answer the rhetorical question of whether one would want to live in a society that terminated the lives of certain severely impaired newborns if one held the view – as I do – that the newborn’s current and future quality of life is all that matters here. I could live in such a society where empathy for human suffering trumps religious conviction.
Don’t be fooled by the “parental consent” nonsense. First, parents shouldn’t have the power to have their babies killed. Beyond that, if we owe a duty to the baby to kill him, then parental rights become irrelevant and it’s veto time. Relevantly, back in the late 1990s, The Lancet reported that 27% of infanticides in the Netherlands–all based on a supposedly “unlivable life” occurs without parental consent.

If the parents’ reason for wanting to love their baby as long as he lives can be viewed as religious–strongly hinted by Schuklenk as the only reason anyone could oppose, it’s really veto time!

4 Abortionists Charged in Indiana: Rape, Murder

The Indiana Attorney General is taking action against abortionists regarding hundreds of serious violations of incomplete records that could be hiding a variety of crimes including cases of possible statutory rape and "abortions" of babies born alive being murdered.
“The pending criminal charges brought by county prosecutors along with the sheer volume of unexplained violations by this licenseholder merits review by the Medical Licensing Board to determine whether disciplinary action is warranted for the noncompliance.”

-- From "Abortion-related complaints filed against 4 doctors" by The Associated Press 9/17/14

Attorney General Greg Zoeller’s office filed licensing complaints Wednesday against an Illinois doctor facing misdemeanor charges for improperly reporting abortions he performed for 13-year-olds in Indiana and against three physicians who perform abortions in Indianapolis.

The complaints ask the Indiana Medical Licensing Board to consider disciplinary action against Dr. Ulrich Klopfer of Crete, Illinois, and the others for violating abortion record-keeping and advice-and-consent laws.

Indiana law requires physicians performing abortions to submit terminated pregnancy reports to the Indiana State Department of Health for statistical purposes and to comply with the other requirements. It also requires that abortions on patients under age 14 be reported within three days to the Health Department and the Indiana Department of Child Services because sex with a girl under 14 is recognized as child molestation in Indiana.

From "Abortion-related complaints filed against Indiana doctors" by Shari Rudavsky, Indianapolis Star 9/18/14

Three of the doctors -- Dr. Kathleen Glover, Dr. Resad Pasic, and Dr. Raymond Robinson -- practice at the Clinic for Women on West 16th Street. The fourth, Dr. Ulrich Klopfer, performed abortions in South Bend and Gary and previously in Fort Wayne.

The complaint documents Klopfer's more than 1,800 violations for submitting incomplete termination reports, failing to obtain proper consent from patients, and failing to submit terminated pregnancy reports for several months for procedures he performed on two 13-year-old patients.

The Medical Licensing Board will next hold a hearing at which they will decide whether any violations occurred and if so what disciplinary action, from a reprimand to revoking the physician's license is warranted. The hearing has not been scheduled.

From "Attorney General seeks review of Klopfer's medical license" by Madeline Buckley, South Bend Tribune 9/18/14

A press release from the [AG] office said Ulrich’s reports had an average of four errors each. . . .

Klopfer faces a misdemeanor criminal charge in both Lake and St. Joseph county in connection with those allegations.

The doctor, who has performed abortions throughout northern Indiana, told The Tribune last year those late reports were “an honest mistake.”

The attorney general’s office is also accusing Klopfer of violations of state law that requires abortion providers to give women certain information before the abortion, such as showing them a fetal ultrasound.

From "4 abortionists hit with charges in Indiana" by Michael Carl, World Net Daily 9/18/14

The charges allege that the four doctors have consistently failed to keep accurate records for the age of the patient seeking an abortion, the name and the age of the father and whether or not the baby was born alive.

In total, there are 1,833 alleged violations which include:
1,818 counts of submitting incomplete and incorrect terminated pregnancy reports in violation of Indiana Code 16-34-2-5(b).

Two counts of failure to timely submit a terminated pregnancy report for 13-year-old patients within three days of the abortion procedure, a violation of Indiana Code 16-34-2-5(b).

Six counts of failure to ensure informed and voluntary consent was obtained through properly credentialed counselors, a violation of Indiana Code 16-34-2-1.1.

Seven counts of failure to ensure informed and voluntary consent was obtained 18 hours prior to performing procedures, a violation of Indiana Code 16-34-2-1.1(a)(1).

More Abortionists Admit Killing Kids After Birth

The liberal media's worst nightmare: Abortionists caught in videos describing their infanticide techniques.

Kermit The Abortionist, on trial for eight counts of murder, is not a "lone wolf" killer of babies born alive during botched abortions.  Lila Rose of Live Action, famous for other undercover stings on Planned Parenthood, has released video showing that Kermit Gosnell's "house of horrors" abortion practices can also be found in New York and D.C.

Meanwhile, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo backs legislation to repeal all abortion restrictions for all nine months of pregnancy.

For background, read about the on-going murder trial of Kermit Gosnell, and the learn the plumbing fix when too many fetuses are flushed down the toilet.

-- From "Group Shows Covert Video of a Bronx Abortion Clinic" by Vivian Yee, New York Times 4/28/13

An anti-abortion group that previously released several videotapes of undercover visits to abortion clinics released another video on Sunday of a staff member at a Bronx clinic describing late-term abortion procedures. The group likened the practices to those at the clinic of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia doctor charged with killing viable fetuses.

“The gruesome and inhuman practices exposed in Gosnell’s ‘House of Horrors’ are business as usual for the abortion industry in America,” [Lila Rose, president of Live Action] said in a statement, calling on the New York State Health Department to investigate Dr. Emily and other clinics performing late-term abortions. Both the Health Department and Dr. Emily center did not respond to requests for comment.

When a pregnant woman posing as a patient asked what happens if the fetus accidentally “comes out” at home before the final procedure, a staff member replied, “If it comes out, it comes out. Flush it.”

The woman also asked what happens if the removed fetus is still “twitching” or “breathing.” The staff member said all aborted fetuses are placed in jars of solution and sent to a laboratory for weighing; if the fetus is still moving, “the solution will make it stop.”

From "Antiabortion group releases videos of clinic workers discussing live births" by Sandhya Somashekhar and Lena H. Sun, Washington Post 4/28/13

Live Action . . . claims that the videos show that abortion doctors are willing to kill babies in violation of the federal Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002, which requires them to try to save a child born during a failed abortion using the same measures used in miscarriages or preterm births at the same stage of pregnancy.

One video features a D.C. doctor, Cesare Santangelo, who said that in the unlikely event that an abortion resulted in a live birth, “we would not help it.” Santangelo was answering repeated questions from an undercover operative about what would happen, hypothetically, if she gave birth after an unsuccessful abortion.

“I mean, technically, you know, legally, we would be obligated to help it, you know, to survive, but . . . it probably wouldn’t,” Santangelo is shown telling the woman, who was 24 weeks pregnant. “It’s all in how vigorously you do things to help a fetus survive at this point.”

In an interview with The Washington Post, Santangelo said he was trying to reassure the woman, who turned out to be an undercover operative of the group, Live Action. In reality, he said, he would call 9-1-1. But he said he stands by what he said on tape.

“What I said is, basically I wouldn’t do anything extraordinary,” he said Saturday. “We would call EMS. We would call 9-1-1. But I wouldn’t do intubation or anything. . . . You let nature take its course.”

From "Undercover video: abortion worker tells woman to flush baby down toilet" by John Jalsevac, LifeSiteNews.com 4/29/13

. . . The undercover investigator then asks what to do if the baby comes out while she is at home.

“If it comes out, then it comes out. Flush it…if anything, you know, put it in a bag or something or somewhere and bring it to us,” the counselor says.

. . . the counselor also explains that the abortion is a suction abortion, and says that it is unlikely the baby would come out in one piece. “We never had that for ages,” she says.

The counselor also discourages the woman from going to the hospital if she experience complications, explaining that the hospital won’t want to finish an abortion that the abortion clinic started.

The counselor also suggests that people at the hospital might force the woman to have the baby and keep it.

CA Abortionist Faces 9 Years in Prison

UPDATE (12/8/08): Abortion Business Owner Pleads Guilty to Unlicensed Abortion, All Facilities Closed

-- From "Abortion clinic operator is charged in felonies by San Diego County D.A." by Tony Perry, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer 6/21/08

SAN DIEGO -- A 48-year-old woman who ran an abortion clinic in Chula Vista was charged Friday with 10 felony counts of practicing medicine without a license and grand theft.

Bertha Pinedo Bugarin, who faces similar charges in Los Angeles, is accused of telling women that she was a doctor, performing abortions on them and prescribing drugs. One woman had to be rushed to a hospital with life-threatening complications, prosecutors said.

[San Diego County Dist. Atty. Bonnie] Dumanis said nine former patients from Bugarin's Clinica Medica de la Mujer have identified Bugarin, including one woman who gave birth prematurely to a baby that lived for only three hours. Another patient paid $500 for an abortion but had to return for a second procedure when the first was not successful, prosecutors said.

"This defendant preyed on women in the Hispanic community" by passing herself off as a doctor, the prosecutor says. Bertha Bugarin, 48, at one point ran six clinics in Southern California. If convicted on all counts, she faces more than nine years in prison, prosecutors said.

ELCA Says 'Committed' Relationships OK for Gay Clergy

Can you still call yourself a church if you endorse outright disobedience to God?

From "Lutherans Say 'Committed' Relationships OK for Gay Clergy" by Jennnifer Mesko, posted 8/13/07 at Citizenlink.org

The 4.8 million-member Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) continues to loosen its standards on homosexuality and clergy celibacy.

During its weeklong assembly that ended Saturday, members voted to encourage church leaders to "refrain from or demonstrate restraint" in disciplining gay clergy who are in committed relationships.

The thousand church members, meeting at Chicago's Navy Pier, voted down a measure that would have ended the church's celibacy requirement for gay clergy.

"To refrain from discipline in the home is bad parenting, but we're about to do so in Christ's Church," said Jaynan Clark Egland, president of WordAlone Network.

WordAlone is a Lutheran grassroots network concerned that the ELCA is losing its Christ-centered focus.

This isn't the first sign that the ELCA no longer has faith in the God of the Bible. Live birth abortions are performed at ELCA Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. Apparently the ELCA believes that Jesus just isn't enough for mothers of Down Syndrome and Spinal Bifida babies either...
