Taxpayers Funding Kids' Sex Guides, Abortion

While receiving $349,600,000 in tax dollars, International Planned Parenthood Federation says their kids' brochure called “Healthy, Happy and Hot” has become their most popular publication.

Planned Parenthood received $349.6 million in tax dollars in the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2008, and it paid its president, Cecile Richards, $385,163, plus another $11,876 in benefits and deferred compensation.

According to a “fact sheet” published by the organization, Planned Parenthood Affiliate Health Centers performed 324,008 abortions in 2008.

In January 2009, Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) introduced legislation to defund Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers that receive taxpayer funding. His bill, H.R. 614, would amend the Public Health Service Act to prohibit “providing any federal family planning assistance to an entity unless the entity certifies that, during the period of such assistance, the entity will not perform, and will not provide any funds to any other entity that performs an abortion.”

From "Planned Parenthood’s Federal Funding and Republicans’ Pro-life Principles" by Michael Tennant, The New American Magazine 11/12/10

[President George W.] Bush, who once flatly stated that “we’re not going to spend taxpayers’ money on abortion,” ended up permitting over $2.5 billion in taxpayers’ money to go to Planned Parenthood during his presidency. Between 2005 and 2006 — well after he had made his firm statement against spending taxpayer dollars on abortion — Bush approved a 67 percent increase in federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

Let it also be noted that during most of Bush’s presidency he had the luxury of working with a Congress dominated by his own party, which also claims to be pro-life. Yet both the Republicans in Congress and the Republican in the White House saw fit not just to continue but to increase federal funding of Planned Parenthood every single year — and at a faster rate than it had increased under President Bill Clinton, who never claimed to be pro-life.

Will Republicans turn out to be any more willing to act on their alleged pro-life principles this time around?

From "Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz President Makes About $400,000" by Steven Ertelt, 11/11/10

In 1997, Planned Parenthood did about 160,000 abortions and received approximately $160 million in total taxpayer funding from various levels of government. Both the number of abortions and the amount of money received from government, supposedly for family planning to reduce abortions, has more than doubled since then.

With approximately 1.2 million abortions done annually in the United States via surgical abortions or the dangerous RU 486 (mifepristone) abortion drug, Planned Parenthood has moved from doing 25 to 27 percent of all abortions at a time when Alan Guttmacher Institute, its former research arm, has showed abortions at near-historic lows.

While abortions are on the rise at Planned Parenthood, adoption referrals declined to just 2,405 — a 51 percent drop since 2007. Planned Parenthood now does 134 abortions for every adoption referral it makes.

From "Planned Parenthood Says Sex Guide For Youth is a Best Seller" By Seana Cranston, J.D., Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute 11/11/10

The world’s leading abortion provider continues to promote a graphic brochure advocating casual sex among youth. According to International Planned Parenthood Federation, the brochure called “Healthy, Happy and Hot” has become their most popular publication.

Aimed at young people with HIV, the brochure contains sexually explicit language and promotes casual sex with multiple partners, as well as oral, anal, and homosexual sex.

The publication encourages youth to keep their sexual activity secret from their parents, as well as visits to family planning clinics. “You should find out whether there are any centers near to you where you can go without needing the permission of your parents or guardians.”
