Although most Americans don't want their tax dollars to fund abortion, the annual flow of taxes to Planned Parenthood from the federal government has skyrocketed since President Obama took office -- now over half a billion dollars per year.

According to the latest annual report, the $542 million in taxpayer support last year counted Medicaid money. The total represents a steady increase, up 11 percent from $487 million the year before; that amount was up 34 percent from $363 million the year before that.

The funding figures were included in the abortion provider's annual report released Monday. The numbers showed roughly 45 percent of Planned Parenthood's budget now comes from taxpayer dollars.

In its latest annual report for fiscal year 2011 to 2012, Planned Parenthood reveals that it performed 333,964 abortions in 2011 – a record year for the organization.

According to annual reports, the organization performed 332,278 abortions in 2009, 329,445 in 2010, making the total number of abortions in three years to 995,687.

Contraceptive services at Planned Parenthood have dropped by 12 percent since 2009, and cancer screening & prevention services have dropped by 29 percent.

While the number of abortions reached a record high, only 2,300 Planned Parenthood customers were referred to adoption agencies during the 2011-2012 fiscal year.

“For decades now, Planned Parenthood has operated the most proficient killing machine in the United States,” said Douglas R. Scott, Jr., president of the Planned Parenthood watchdog organization Life Decisions International (LDI), a Planned Parenthood watchdog group. “And the machine has set yet another record.”

“The more access Planned Parenthood has to young people, the higher the rate of sexually transmitted disease,” Scott said. “Abstinent teens do not get such sexually transmitted diseases; abstinent teens do not become customers of Planned Parenthood.”

“As a woman, I believe America deserves better than abortion,” Blackburn said in a statement on her [U. S. House] bill. “America shouldn’t celebrate abortion and our taxpayers shouldn’t subsidize abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood, who profit from the destruction of human life with taxpayer money. It’s fiscally irresponsible and morally indefensible.”

In 2011, Democrats said they would shut down the government rather than pass an appropriations bill that cut federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

Republicans ultimately scrapped the provision, but talk of a government shut down is already growing as they prepare to fight for spending cuts when President Obama asks Congress to raise the debt ceiling.
