The New York Supreme Court has upheld a county official’s recognition of a same-sex marriage performed outside the state.
Last year, Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano issued an order giving privileges to same-sex couples that had been available only to heterosexual couples.
“I don’t see why people, just because they’re the same sex, shouldn’t have the same benefits,” Spano told The Associated Press.
Brian Raum, senior counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund, predicted the Supreme Court decision would be overturned.
