Porn Star Leads Calif. First Grade Class

Porn star Sasha Grey, who won the 2010 AVN award for best anal sex scene, was invited to read books at a California elementary school last week.

Grey, who has also appeared on HBO's Entourage and other mainstream acting roles, read children's books to students at Emerson Elementary School in Compton last week as part of the Read Across America program, according to TMZ.

She tweeted about the experience, saying students were the "sweetest" ever, but after parents complained, the Compton Unified School District denied that she ever visited the school, TMZ reported.

According to TMZ, a number of parents weren't thrilled to find out that their tots were spending quality time with the star of "Butt Sex Bonanza" and "Deep Throat This 44." Some of them complained to the PTA, who then grilled the school's principal.

"I am proud to have participated in the 'Read Across America' program at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, CA. I read 'Dog Breath' by Dav Pilkey to the sweetest 1st and 3rd grade children," Grey wrote [on Twitter].

"Promoting education is an effort that is close to my heart. Illiteracy contributes to poverty; encouraging children to pick up a book is fundamental. I believe education is a universal right," Grey added. " I believe in the future of our children, and I will remain an active supporter and participant in education-focused initiatives."

Earlier this year, Grey told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column that she was finished with the porn industry and wanted to transition into mainstream acting. She has appeared in HBO’s “Entourage,” where she played a fictional version herself and Steven Soderbergh’s 2009 film “The Girlfriend Experience,” where she played a hooker.

She also released a book of her own earlier this year, a photography compilation entitled “NEU SEX.”

Grey countered with a statement of her own, refusing to stop participating in the education program; she feels she should not be judged based on her past.

“I am an actor. I am an artist. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a partner. I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am,” her statement read.

The Compton Unified School District is one of the worst-rated in the country, with less than half the students graduating high school. On one internet forum, parents lash out at the notoriously bad schools, calling the children’s behavior “deplorable,” the curriculum “watered down,” and program in general in need of “a lot of reconstruction.”
